Chapter 545 Break His Neck

"

Clay wanted to break that bastard Buck Jeffers' neck. He was going to introduce him to the MC next week after he told the them about him at church, but the dumbass was here wearing the Bangor cut forcing his hand.

Buck Jeffers had been the only one from the Laredo chapter who had gotten a sentence light enough that he was actually out of prison. The rest were never going to get out. That hadn't been a quirk of the legal system. That was a tribute to the wily Buck Jeffers. He only looked like an idiot. Underneath the genial accident prone façade, he was tough and ruthless. Clay was certain that if Jeffers was murdered, there would be contingencies in place that would result in him facing a murder charge back in Texas where they used the death penalty a lot.

Killing a witness usually before the witness testifies was a standard part of the outlaw MC playbook. The club wouldn't be pleased that he'd done it in secret or for another charter, but they would understand his actions. He wasn't worried about any possible blow back with the MC. They would keep his secret. He was worried about law enforcement.

Gemma enjoyed being the wife of the president of SAMCRO. How would she react if he was arrested for killing a woman who testified against the Laredo chapter for sex trafficking kids? All the charters had disowned Laredo and all its members. Killing the woman that testified against that charter may not be viewed favorably because this wasn't a typical witness. This was the murder of a woman who stopped the charter from sex trafficking little boys and girls.

He cursed himself for taking that job. He'd needed the money though. He'd seen her as a rat and a paycheck. He hadn't planned on killing his kid until she'd seen him choke the life out of her mother. It didn't matter to him that she was his daughter. She saw him kill and she needed to die. If he found her even after all these years, he'd kill her. There was no statute of limitations on murder. She was still a danger to him.

Gemma might love him, but she loved financial security too. What would she do if he spent every cent they made trying to save his ass from a murder charge? He'd get tried in Texas where they handed out the death penalty and actually put people to death.

He had no choice but to grit his teeth and introduce Bucky around to everyone as Mickey Smith from the now defunct Bangor Maine chapter. The chapter died at out as members either moved or died and they didn't grow ranks. Maine wasn't a great place climate for bikers, so the chapter's demise was inevitable.

Tig was giving him the stink eye. As SA, Tig was responsible for vetting potential members and club hang arounds in addition to keeping order inside the clubhouse. While Mickey was a retired member from a disbanded charter, it would still be Tig's job to check him out to make sure he was who he said he was. The real Mickey was living in a care facility in Maine for those impaired with dementia. They had decided against using a deceased members ID because an internet search would turn up the obituary. They needed a member that was alive.

Clay introduced him around saying that he met him in a former Texas chapter. That was how the Laredo SOA was referred to. No one said the words "Laredo SOA" in public. Laredo was only spoken of by name in SOA only meetings. It was one of the ways the charters had distanced themselves from the child sex trafficking chapter. That chapter was a disgrace every SOA charter had to live with. No one was going to contact any of the Laredo guys asking if a Mickey Smith from Bangor SOA had ever been to the Laredo clubhouse. His word was going to be good enough as long as he could get Tig on board.

Tig's lower lip was out in full pout mode clearly unhappy that he was introducing Buck Jeffers around as Mickey. Clay left Mickey with Piney hoping like hell Mickey wouldn't say anything stupid and took Tig into the chapel.

Tig looked at Clay, his curly auburn hair fluffed up around his head and his blue eyes blazing with fury.

"Mickey is retired from the Bangor chapter. He's going to be hanging around the clubhouse."

"I need to check this guy out," Tig sputtered.

"I appreciate that you have a job to do, but I know this guy. I met him at the Laredo chapter, so I don't want that getting out that much because it will just drag all that kiddie sex trafficking thing up again."

"That chapter he's from isn't even in existence anymore," Tig protested.

"I know, but I met him in Laredo with some other guys from the Bangor charter. He's a real good guy. We've been in touch over the years. He's retired from the charter and the fact that it isn't in existence isn't his fault."

"I don't like it. He might have started out as SOA, but for all we know, he's working for the cops. He could have lost his MC loyalty over the years."

Clay shook his head with annoyance. He didn't like anyone challenging him.

"I've been in touch with him over the years. He's never given me any indication that he's not outlaw besides he's retired. We don't let him come to church, we make sure we don't discuss MC outlaw business in front of him."

"He's just visiting right?" Tig asked.

"He moved to Charming. He wants to hang around the clubhouse and go on runs with us. It will be OK."

"I'm going to dig into this guy. Something just doesn't seem right."

Clay knew the one thing Tig loved was his right hand seat at the table. That was the way to get to Tig—threaten his position.

"Do you trust me?" Clay asked Tig looking him in the eye.

"Of course."

"And I trust you. I need that trust with you as my SA. I'm telling you that Mickey is OK. Don't investigate him. We won't talk any sensitive stuff around him."

Tig hesitated clearly still uneasy.

"What's really going on Clay?"

"I told you," he replied impatiently. "Just do this unless you don't trust me." Clay shot Tig a piercing look hoping that would be enough to put Tig in his place. He didn't want to have to spell it out that if Tig couldn't look the other way on Mickey, he'd get an SA who would.

Tig stared at Clay.

"I've done a lot of shit for you. Never had much problem with it until now. There's something about this guy that doesn't feel right to me, but I'll let it go for now. You can trust me."

"Good. Come meet Mickey," Clay said clapping Tig on the shoulder and leaving the chapel with him. "You'll like him."

Clay hoped that he'd gotten the situation with Tig under control and that Tig wouldn't go rogue and investigate on his own. If he did, that could be very dangerous.

Author's Note: Heard the news that Charlie Hunnam is saying he has an idea that would allow him to play Jax again? He said it was in the early stages. Keep in mind that as part of Kurt Sutter's deal with FX, he gave up control over SOA. FX owned the rights until Disney bought FX. Kurt may have created SOA, but he doesn't own the rights anymore. This means, he can't create anything SOA or Mayans without Disney's OK. Given they fired him him from Mayans over alleged misbehavior on the set with cast and crew and he is now suing them, it's unlikely that he will be doing SOA things with them anytime soon if ever, but if Charlie went to Disney with an idea, there could be hope if there's money in it for Disney. He wasn't clear if his idea was a dream sequence or a voice over or what. It sounded like he was actually going to actually play Jax again. I'm hoping for a new series.

Here's how I would do it—I'd have Jax do a voice over and talk about how his life could have turned out differently if he'd made different choices and here are those choices and then the show just picks up from whatever year he wants to start with. It doesn't do that horrible it's just a dream nonsense or come up with some convoluted explanation how Jax lived and didn't go to jail for the rest of his life for all the murders he committed including the last one in front of witnesses. It's just a straightforward telling of Jax's life with different choices. Using this approach could let the entire cast return and tell new stories. Charlie is a writer so he might make this fly. Hope so.

How would you do it?
