Chapter 561 Opening Day
"
Scarlett's opening day had gone better than she thought thanks to the Sons showing up en mass including Clay and buying the Harley mugs. She offered them the option of having their names put on their mugs for an additional $15 charge. All of the guys wanted their names on the mugs. The woman that made the mugs for her would put the names on the mugs and fire them in her home kiln. They would be ready for pick-up on Friday.
Some of the guys also bought pillows. Scarlett told Jax that she would get him pillows for his house, but they needed to figure out the colors first and then she would order them.
She had just finished with her last customer and was heading to the door to lock it and change the sign to closed when Gemma walked in.
"You're not closed yet?" she asked in that fake bright tone of voice that grated on Scarlett's nerves.
"You made it with a minute to spare," Scarlett said matching Gemma's fake voice with her own. "If you want to look around, you'll have to come by tomorrow. I'm going to my father's for dinner to celebrate the store finally opening and I can't be late. Jax's meeting me there."
"OK, I'll take the hint and come back at another time. How did it go today?"
"Better than I dreamed," Scarlett said. She would never let Gemma know if anything bad happened because it would give her pleasure.
"I heard that Jax is staying with you while his house is getting renovated."
"He is."
"Well, if you need any advice on design or improvements, you can always ask me."
"I won't," Scarlett said in a voice so sweet she was sure she'd give herself cavities. "I'm sure if Jax wants your input, he'll ask you."
Gemma's lips tightened into a hard line.
"Jax has asked me a couple of questions about JT. Does he talk much to you about his father?"
Scarlett knew that Gemma hadn't come into the store to wish her well. At least now, she was finally getting around to the reason she was really there.
"Jax and I talk, but what we talk about I can't seem to remember," Scarlett paused and appeared to be trying to think. "I thought when I changed my hair color to brunette, I'd get smarter. I guess I was wrong," Scarlett said, delighting at the flair of anger in Gemma's eyes.
"I guess changing your hair color is one way of holding Jax's interest. You know he's never been faithful."
"He's just never been with a woman like me," Scarlett said with a smile. "I don't want to be rude, but I really need to head over to my father's."
"Well, I'd better leave then," Gemma said flashing her a toothy smile as she walked out the door. It reminded Scarlett of daggers. Gemma could be a dangerous enemy.
While Scarlett finished closing her shop, she thought about Gemma's visit. She knew that Gemma didn't know about Jax finding his father's treasure chest, so that couldn't be behind her visit unless Piney might have accidentally told her.
A sudden thought occurred to her that made her blood run cold and it could explain why JT wanted Jax to find the treasure chest when he was older. What if in that collection of papers and photos, JT revealed that he wasn't Jax's father?
