While Izuku, Twilight, Tenya, Shoto, Tempest, Tony, and Ghidorah were dealing with the aftermath of the whole debacle with Stain, the rest of their friends were handling their internships quite well.
Tsuyu had gone with both Fluttershy and Marco to serve their internship under the Sea Rescue Hero: Selkie. The trio had just finished up swabbing the fore deck when Selkie's top sidekick, Sirius, came in.
"Hey, how's work going for you guys?"
"All done here, just about," Marco said as Click chirped.
"It's kinda boring having to do work all day, huh?" Sirius asked as she sat down with the three.
"Well, being a Hero isn't all that glamorous but I don't mind," Fluttershy said.
"You know, when I was a kid I always thought I knew what it meant to be a hero," Sirius admitted, "I figured it'd be super glamorous. But then I discovered it was a lot of boring patrols and cleaning up. I was also stuck with part of laundry duty. Trust me, you do not want to see the captain's underwear."
"I can only imagine so." Marco shuddered.
"But you still stuck it out somehow," Tsuyu noted as Sirius nodded.
"After becoming the Captain's #1 Sidekick, I discovered for myself something important about being a hero. I'm sure you'll find out for yourselves one day."
"Hey, why are you all just sitting around right now?"
The four turned to see Selkie himself come in. His Quirk, [Spotted Seal], made him resemble a humanoid seal and also gave him the physical capabilities of one.
"Oh, we just finished up with the deck, Captain," Fluttershy explained with a smile.
"I already suggested they take a break, sir," Sirius said, pulling Tsuyu into a one-armed hug.
Selkie rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment. "Sorry about that, ladies. I guess I jumped to conclusions."
He then squished his face, trying to look cute and apologetic. This only made Sirius facepalm while Marco busted a gut laughing. However, Tsuyu and Fluttershy both had different thoughts in mind.
"He's adorable..."
Just then, one of the other sailors came out from the cabin.
"Captain Selkie! We have an urgent message from the coast guard!"
"Looks like we're gonna be sailing out soon," Sirius noted as Selkie went to take the call. "Can you help me unfasten the ropes?"
"Ribbit," Froppy said with a nod.
"Aye-Aye!" Marco added with a salute.
"Oh dear, what could be happening?" Fluttershy pondered worriedly.
The Oki Mariner was ready for emergency departure by the time Selkie was finished with the call. Once they were out in the open ocean, Selkie explained the emergency.
"An incoming trade ship reported some stowaways. However, when officials inspected the ship, the stowaways weren't found. Additionally, important cargo from the ship's freight list was missing. I'm sure you all realize what that implies."
"The stowaways probably moved the cargo to another ship somewhere close by before fleeing the scene of the crime. It's possible the stowaways had their plans on the ship." Tsuyu guessed.
"Correct~!" Selkie praised, giving off a cute face as his crew sweatdropped before he recomposed himself. "Basically, we're dealing with smugglers looking for a quick profit, and it's our job to find them. Based on the information we have, the boat they escaped on is likely small. At most, we're dealing with four perps. We'll track them down and deliver them to the coast guard. We have authorities and other sea-based heroes tracking them as well."
"Looks like things are getting exciting!" Marco grinned. "Let's sink their battleship!"
"The sun will be setting soon, so you'll be searching on the boat via radar. Meanwhile, I'll take to the ocean and search separately. Everyone got it?" Selkie asked, finishing the briefing.
"AYE, AYE, SIR!"
Selkie took a dive into the ocean, his boots equipped with folding flippers as everyone got into their positions to sail out.
By the time night fell, there was no sign of any of the smugglers.
"Nothing on visual, and nothing on radar either," Tsuyu noted.
"We'll find them," Sirius assured. "The captain's searching as well, after all."
"I just hope he's okay..." Fluttershy said worriedly.
"We have a report from the coast guard!" Mick, the ship's Helmsman, called in. "A fishing boat believed to belong to the smugglers has just shaken off a patrol. Last seen heading for our area."
As soon as he finished saying that, Selkie leaped out of the water nearby and landed on deck.
"I've confirmed the boat's location. Turn off the lights, so we can get close without letting them know our position."
Soon enough the boat was spotted and Selkie brought his crew to check it out. Tsuyu, Fluttershy, and Marco had to stay behind, largely because Selkie was concerned that the smugglers could be hostile. Sirius stayed behind with them. With the Oki Mariner impeding the fishing boat's course, a flare was shot up to get the smugglers' attention.
"Attention!" Selkie called over the loudspeaker. "This is a Pro Hero! We're here on behalf of the coast guard! We will now inspect your vessel!"
The owner of the boat, alongside two crew mates with squid features, seemed more annoyed than concerned.
"There's no sign of the missing cargo below deck," Mick reported to Selkie.
"It's like I said, we're just humble fishermen." The owner said.
Selkie noticed the large hatch on the deck. "Then you won't mind showing us what's in here, too."
"It's just a bunch of fish," the owner insisted.
Selkie was insistent, but it turned out to be a trap, which led to the water below. It turned out the fishing boat was just a decoy, with the owner having been threatened into helping. The two squid goons dropped him into the hatch before closing it.
"That should make things easier for Boss Innsmouth."
However, they really should have checked who they were trapping, instead of just trapping to buy time. Selkie was already sending a sonar beacon using his Quirk to Sirius. Her [Good Ear] Quirk allowed her to pick up high-frequency sound waves that normal ears couldn't hear properly.
"This boat was a decoy. They have another boat. The captain wants us to look for it."
"Shouldn't we try to rescue him?" Fluttershy asked.
"Right now, the captain is relying on us," Sirius said. "So we need to have faith in him as well."
The three interns realized that Sirius was smiling and that Mick also had a smile on his face. They started to realize what Sirius was getting at and nodded.
"Alright, we trust you," Marco said firmly.
"Ribbit." Tsuyu croaked in agreement.
Before long, the second ship was found hiding among the rocks.
"Cut the engines," Sirius said, "We'll approach from their blind spot."
Fluttershy used her Quirk to create seaweed masks to cover everyone's faces so they could swim underwater without being detected. After boarding the boat, Tsuyu brought a female guard over to the side with her tongue. Before the guard could warn anyone, Sirius had her mouth muffled. That left only one other person as the heroes boarded.
Mick went to grab the guy, only to get ink spurted into his eyes. An octopus tentacle shot out, slamming Mick into the nearby rock wall.
"Look out!" Marco cried as he waved his hand, pulling water from the ocean to block the tentacles as they moved to attack the others as well.
The man was Innsmouth, the leader of the smuggling ring. He looked like a humanoid octopus due to his Quirk, conveniently named [Octopus].
"Here I thought I'd gotten away with it," Innsmouth said having managed to snag Sirius in one of his tentacles. "But you idiots just won't take a hint and give up."
"Let her go!" Fluttershy demanded but Innsmouth squeezed Sirius tightly, silently warning the trio that he'd crush her if they tried anything.
"If you call off the coast guard, I'll let her go. But try and act like heroes, and her blood is on your hands!"
However, a sudden communication from Sirius' radio caught Innsmouth off-guard, realizing it was coming from her fins as he pulled at the one on her right side, and was surprised that it came off without harming her.
"The captain made it off the fishing boat. What's your status?"
"So this is actually a radio? For a moment I thought it was part of your Quirk." Innsmouth noted before getting an idea and holding the radio to Tsuyu, Fluttershy, and Marco. "If you value this woman's life, then repeat after me. 'Unfortunately, we were not able to locate the stowaways.'"
"Fat chance!" Marco snapped. "A hero never gives in to a villain's demands like that when they can still do something!"
"The stowaways are at the double rocks!" Tsuyu called out onto the radio.
Innsmouth growled, but instead of killing Sirius immediately he dropped her and lashed out at the trio.
"You stupid little brats!"
Marco grinned as he waved his arms in a cross-motion, using his Air Element to send a gust of powerful wind to push Innsmouth back. Fluttershy then made a gesture with her hands as coral erupted from the ocean and tangled around the octopus-themed villain.
"What the?! How are you doing that?!"
"My Quirk isn't just for controlling plant life, it can also work with animals. Larger creatures it merely speaks with, but lesser creatures like coral it can control as easily as any plant, even manifesting it in the same way." Fluttershy explained.
Selkie suddenly leaped out of the water, having taken care of Innsmouth's goons as Tsuyu cheered.
"Ribbit! Captain, you made it!"
"You kids did great work, but I've got it from here!"
"That's what you think!" Innsmouth called out, spraying ink into Selkie's eyes before breaking free from the coral restraints and leaping at him. But blinding a man who could use echolocation was a useless prospect, and Innsmouth found himself back on the boat just trying to fend off the hero.
Of course, Selkie's assault allowed Innsmouth to get within range of Sirius, who quickly grabbed his leg to off-balance him as Selkie lunged forward, landing a hard flying kick right into Innsmouth's face, sending him sprawling into the sea.
"Are you okay?" Fluttershy asked as she and Tsuyu checked on Sirius.
"I'm okay thanks to you guys."
Selkie surfaced at that moment. "Good job, all of you. Thanks to you we were able to capture these smugglers."
"Man, aren't we glad we chose Selkie as our internship offer!" Marco smiled as Fluttershy giggled.
Later the Oki Mariner brought in the smugglers, including the fisherman coerced into helping them. The admiral of the coast guard met with Selkie as Innsmouth and his gang was brought in.
"We were able to recover the illegal drugs Innsmouth and his gang had smuggled into the cargo that was stolen. It was a big haul. They even somehow got their hands on Trigger."
"Trigger...I've heard that stuff is like steroids for Quirks...and it ain't pretty on those with Transformation and Mutant-type Quirks..." Marco shuddered.
"By the way, you didn't tell me you got a new sidekick." The admiral noted as he turned to Tsuyu, Marco, and Fluttershy.
"They are students from UA here for internships. Despite that, they are all admirable heroes to be in their own right!"
The admiral smiled. "Well, I'm looking forward to the day these three get their licenses. Anyone Selkie thinks can make a great hero is definitely one I'd enjoy working with."
Tsuyu beamed while Fluttershy blushed bashfully as Marco laughed and waved it off, Click giving off giggle-like chirps.
"Ribbit-Ribbit!"
Why should Izuku and Twilight get all the fun? Let's have Tsuyu get in on the action with Fluttershy and Marco too!
