Chapter Two: Izumi's Past and the Entrance Exam
~A/N~ So here we go. Chapter Two of the Revision. Off the bat, this chapter gets a little dark. I don't go into too much detail but for safety SOME TRIGGER WARNINGS.
Chapter Start!
Izumi sat before the people that would decide her future. The Dean and Professors of U.A. University. Just to her side, Daiki sat as quiet as his mother. "So where do I start?" Izumi asked.
"If you're comfortable. From the beginning," Nezu replied. "But before you start. This is Detective Tsukauchi and he is here solely for his quirk. Lie Detector and he will let us know if you lie to us,"
"Fair enough. Firstly I was born Katrana to a surrogate mother. From the start my parents hated me. I was a runt. Not strong or fast like they wanted. So instead they decided that I would grow up to be nothing more than a Broodmother. It was a blessing they said. A chance to prove I wasn't totally worthless," Izumi explained. Daiki seeing the look in his mother's eyes climbed into her lap and hugged her with everything he had.
"My father planned on giving me to the villain Maloriak. One of the few in the Black Flight not related to us. That was until my older brother gave him an idea," Izumi's arms encircled her son. "To see if the Flights could be combined to create a new more powerful Flight,"
Aizawa wanted to stop her. His blood was close to boiling at this point and he knew he wasn't the only one. The look of disgust on the faces of the others told him that. For a father to plan to do something so wrong.
"Daiki isn't your little brother is he?" Nezu asked.
"No... he's my son," Izumi replied as tears filled her eyes. "The child of Black and Red,"
"How old is he?" Tsukauchi asked worriedly.
"I'm five," Daiki replied for Izumi. "Six soon," he added.
"But that would mean," Shota started.
"I wasn't even twelve," Izumi confirmed.
"Who is his father?" Vlad King asked trying to change the subject.
"Alexstrasza's youngest son and her only child to choose not to become a Hero. His name was Calen. My brother abducted him when he was vacationing in Brazil," Izumi gently kissed Daiki's forehead. "I didn't know what his purpose was when he was brought before me," She took a slow breath. "It wasn't a mistake that a Red was grabbed. They value life above all else. 'As long as you're alive you can overcome,' is their Flight's motto after all. So my father told Calen he had a choice. Either he could impregnate me or Maloriak gets to,"
"He knew-" Shota started.
"Calen didn't believe my father at first. What kind of monster would let his child be taken by a monster," Izumi shivered. "His mind was changed when Deathwing laughed and let Maloriak shred my clothes and molest me,"
"Enough," Nezu said sternly. "Let's not dredge up any more bad memories,"
"How did you escape," Shota asked hoping it would shift the topic.
"Los Angeles happened. The fight between Deathwing, Sinestra, Nefarian, and Atramedes against All Might, Star and Stripe, and a dozen other heroes. While my family was fighting the heroes Calen managed to free himself. He grabbed me and we ran. We hid in Miami for three years before my mother and brother found us," Izumi wiped her tears away. "Calen fought them with everything he had while I ran again. He died to save me and his son," Daiki smiled sadly.
"Why did you come to Japan?" Midnight asked.
"Deathwing is many things but he's not stupid. He wouldn't dare come to Japan while All Might and Yersa live here. Starting a fight with either would draw the other in. He's not strong enough to fight both and win. He learned that when Atramedes was slain by Star and Stripe. He learned he wasn't invincible when All Might shattered his jaw,"
"Why do you want to become a hero?" Present Mic asked.
"I want to help people but more than that I want to provide for my son," Izumi hugged Daiki again. "And Eraserhead seemed to think U.A. would be willing to take the chance where nobody else will,"
"Momma will be the best hero," Daiki said hugging Izumi back.
"One last question," Mic spoke. "Where did you get your names?"
"Oh, Calen. His best friend growing up was the Green Dragon Hero: Lethon who's real name was Daiki. He also thought up Midoriya because of my green hair and eyes. I came up with Izumi," Izumi answered.
"Thank you for your time you're free to go," Nezu said. Once the mother and son had left Nezu looked to his professors.
"If half of what she said was true it breaks my heart," Midnight said sadly.
"Nothing she said set off my quirk," Tsukauchi said rubbing his brow.
"So we're letting her try right?" Present Mic asked.
"Oh without a doubt," Nezu replied.
"I have a suggestion," Aizawa started. "Should she fail. We could offer her a job so she has a place to live,"
"We could but I have full confidence she will pass. Perhaps she'll even beat Endeavor's Hundred-forty-six point record," Nezu said as he stamped the approval for Izumi's exam.
-Trigger Warning Over-
~Midoriya apartment~
Mother and son sat together on the couch watching cartoons. Izumi's mind was far from the couch. She was far too busy having a near anxiety attack over the upcoming entrance exam. What if she failed. She was almost out of options for work in the area. And for her own peace of mind, she needed to stay where she was. The main city All Might worked in.
"Momma," Daiki spoke getting Izumi's attention.
"Need something?" Izumi asked.
"Can we have pizza for supper?" Daiki asked giving Izumi a bright smile.
"Oh I suppose we could," Izumi kissed Daiki's forehead.
"Pepperoni," Daiki added.
"Of course pepperoni," Izumi replied. "But wait... What's this?" Izumi said getting a knowing look for her son. "Exposed belly!" Daiki cried out as Izumi started tickling him.
~Days Later: U.A. Entrance Exam~
Today was the day. After months of hard work, he was finally ready. He trained every day for this day. It was time to show U.A. and by eventual extension the world how awesome he could be. Then he tripped over his own feet. 'Oh just let me die,' He thought before he stopped mid-fall.
"You ok?" a feminine voice asked. After he was righted by the owner of the voice he turned. It took everything he had to not faint.
"Wow," he said slowly. She was stunning. Matching emerald green hair and eyes. Beautiful tanned skin. Adding in how easily she caught him crazy strength to boot.
"Uh?" She blinked a few times.
"Sorry," he recovered. "Thanks for the save. I'm Kaminari Denki," Denki said offering a hand.
"Midoriya Izumi," Izumi returned the shake.
"You're really strong. You stopped my fall so easily," Denki said as the two started for the building.
"I guess. Never really thought about my strength before," Izumi replied.
"Strength quirk?" Denki asked.
"No I have a transformation quirk," Izumi replied.
"Oh, that's so cool. My favorite hero has one too. The Moonlight Hero: Greymane," Denki said his eyes almost shining.
"Really? He's your favorite. Pretty old school," Izumi returned.
"I won't lie he became my favorite because I love old horror movies and the Werewolf was always my fave. Then I learned of him and it was sealed," Denki explained.
"I wouldn't have taken you for a horror movie buff," Izumi said while they entered the building nearing the sign-in.
"I actually like Romance more but horror is a close second," Denki said with a light blush.
"To each their own," Izumi smiled as she signed in. "Good Luck Kaminari-kun," She added. The two finally parted as they reached the conference hall having seats in separate sections.
After a few minutes, the lights went down and Present Mic walked into the singular light. "Welcome to the U.A. Entrance Exam," Mic said being surprisingly tame. "I'll be going over all the facets to each Entrance Exam here. After that, you will split off to specialized halls for your written exam,"
'Different exams for each department. I guess it makes sense. No point in having someone aiming for a Business Degree answering questions about fighting villains,' Izumi thought while Mic rambled on about each test and the practical that followed.
~U.A. Heroics Written Exam Hall~
"Welcome potential heroes!" Mic's voice now echoed loudly surprising everyone. "Can I get a YEAH!" Instead, he was met with deafening silence. "Fair," Mic laughed and started his explanation of their written exam. Once he had finished the Written portion began.
Question One: You come face to face with a well-known Villain. Sadly this is one you know you cannot defeat. What do you do? A red-head smiled and answered 'Fight anyway. Even if I can't beat them I can stall til others arrive,'
Question Seven: You learn that a fellow hero has been taking bribes on the side to let villains slip away and continue breaking laws. What do you do? 'I'd blow his ass up! He's no better than a villain at that point,' an explosive blonde thought.
Question Twenty-Five: A villain has taken out a dear friend of yours and left them hospitalized. You're unsure if you can beat this villain but thanks to your friend you know where their hideout is. What do you do? 'Interesting the most logical thing to do is to alert a few other heroes and go in with the number advantage,' a speedster thought.
Final Question: A fellow hero declares that you are a villain in hiding and that you've been selling secrets for years. What do you do? 'That's a hard one. Can't just say I'm innocent. Would have to set up a meeting with proper officials and the other hero. Have a proper chance to clear my name while showing good faith by having others there rather than confronting the other hero alone,' Izumi thought as she finished the final question and turned her test over.
With her test done Izumi closed her eyes letting her mind wander. She wondered if Daiki was having fun with Tobita and Aiba. She had to remember to thank them for watching him while she took the entrance exam.
"And that's time!" Mic shouted out startling many of the examinees. "Flip your tests over and head outside to the buses. Check the back of your entree lanyard. You'll get on that corresponding bus,"
Izumi could see many of the other examinees had downtrodden looks on their faces. She guessed they were ones that didn't finish the test on time.
~Outside~
"Yo Midoriya," Izumi stopped hearing her name.
"Oh, Kaminari-kun. How'd you do?" Izumi asked.
"I finished with maybe a minute to spare. I'm not great at tests. I hope I did well enough to pass," Denki replied.
"I'm sure you did fine," Izumi said trying to cheer him up.
"Would've done better if I could've sat by Hitoshi. My boy is wicked smart," Denki smiled.
"Your boy?" Izumi asked.
"He's my BFF and roommate. Known him since we were little. I call him 'my boy' cus it annoys the hell out of him," Denki answered now laughing.
"And it always will," a new voice said as a hand slapped Denki on the back of the head.
"There he is," Denki laughed more.
"Who are you bothering now?" Hitoshi asked. Izumi almost defended Denki until she saw the soft smile on Hitoshi's face. He clearly didn't mean harm by his words.
"This is Midoriya," Denki replied while feigning pain from the hit.
"Nice to meet you," Izumi said as she blushed lightly. Hitoshi was very cute.
"Shinso Hitoshi, Sorry if Denks is bothering you," Hitoshi said right as Denki put him in a headlock.
"I'm a damn delight and you know it," Denki laughed.
"He wasn't bothering me," Izumi replied. "But maybe mess with each other later. We need to get on the buses," The two nodded and broke apart.
"Finally someone else with reason," Hitoshi said while the three moved towards the buses.
~End Notes~ I hope you liked the second chapter of my revised works and I hope the start wasn't too poorly written.
