It was time to leave now, technically, Percy could just apparate to his apartment but he really wants to spend some more time with the others on the train. But what happened is that he was late.
He ran and jumped to hold onto the last railing of the train, his chest heaving up and down from all the running and the railings he had to jump over. Percy could still hear the distant shouts of the train man as he pulled himself over the railing.
He whistled as he opened the last cart door open and he walked through one of the shared spaces instead of the private ones. "Percy?"
He raised his eyebrow and looked at the voice, "Oh, hey Padma." He greeted and looked around, "Prefects lounge, looks nice." He noticed that none of Slytherin's prefects were present, "Where is Harry?" He asked, noting that Hermione and Ron were sitting together, but no Harry.
"The toilet." Hermione said, "Did you just jump over the railing to get on the train?"
Percy nodded and sat down at the empty seats, "Yeah." He nodded, "I overslept and nobody bothered to wake me up." He smiled.
Hermione rolled her eyes and Ron shook his head. "I didn't want to miss the train." Percy argued. "Has the trolley already passed?" He asked Hermione.
Hermione laughed softly and shook her head, "No it hasn't." She then started to scold him, "Seriously though, what are you thinking running to catch a train and still jumping over a fence!"
Percy shrugged, "I was thinking of not missing the train." He rubbed the back of his neck as he sheepishly smiled. "I didn't want to apparate to London because I don't really know what the house looks like." He then nodded, "I could get splinched."
Everyone was looking at him now, "You can apparate?"
"I have my license, the underage one."
"Americans." Ron said and clicked his tongue.
Percy grinned, "Yes Americans, that's why I am the one with the license." he said and saw Harry come back from the toilet.
"Percy?"
"Present." Percy teased as he looked at Hermione and put his hand up. His British accent was on point.
Hermione rolled her eyes and had this stupid smile on her face, "Are you mocking me now Percy?" He pursed his lips and shook his head.
"I'd never mock you, Hermione." He winked, "I was actually mocking a teacher's pet." Ron and Harry snorted and Hermione rolled her eyes at him. "Ha ha ha." She said.
Percy smiled, "Ha ha ha, indeed Hermione." He looked pleased and amused with himself. Ron moved to sit with Harry who was sitting by the hufflepuff prefect. They knew not to get between whatever dispute they have.
"You know, I could kick you out of this prefect's only cart." Percy moved seats and sat beside Hermione. He looked at her amused as he leant against the window, fully facing her.
"You'd never." Percy teased with a smile on his face. "You'd have to throw out Harry as well, and that guy over there."
"That's a prefect."
"Oh really?"
"Yeah."
"Oops. Point made?"
Hermione shook her head, "Argument failed." She smiled, "You owe me some candy now." She said with a victorious smile on her face.
Percy rolled his eyes, "I'll buy you whatever you want when the cart passes through here." He said and then teased, "At least I'm not getting rejected from a carriage." He looked at the only ginger, "Right Ron?"
Ron rolled his eyes, "You come from a family with a history of dark wizards, what'd you expect?"
Percy nodded, "Fine."
"Do I get some candy now as well?"
Percy and Hermione looked at one another and snorted, "We made that deal amongst ourselves, Ron." Hermione said and pointed at Percy.
"I'll buy you some candy, Ron." Harry spoke up. "Why did you even make that deal up?"
Percy looked at Hermione and she nodded, "We made it up because we're always debating amongst ourselves. Luna got tired of us arguing and said to buy something for one another if we're mad."
"Like some married couple." Ron muttered under his breath and Harry snickered.
"Now we use it to keep score." Percy said and Hermione smiled.
"Tell me, Percy, what is our score?"
Percy rolled his eyes and grumbled, "It's twelve to four."
"For who?"
"Twelve for you, four for me." He said and rolled his eyes. Instead Ron and Harry were nodding impressed.
"We never win." Harry said and Ron nodded, "We just walk away most of the time."
Percy huffed, "That'll get the debate nowhere."
Hermione turned to him, "That's what I say!"
He couldn't help but notice the crinkle on the side of her right eye as she gave him a suppressed smile.
"Don't start sucking one anothers face now. I don't think I'm ready for that trauma." Padma said as she looked at the two from her booth.
Percy's jaw dropped and Hermione blushed furiously. "No-" They both said as the same time and looked at one another in confusion. "Well-" Percy began but Hermione shook her head, "No-"
Percy rolled his eyes teasingly, "No?" He asked, "I'm being rejected and I haven't even asked you out."
Hermione nodded with a tight lipped smirk on her face, it was playful, Percy knows. "Rejected at first sight, right Ron."
Ron cheered and Percy looked at him with an 'are-you-kidding-me' look. The ginger stopped cheering.
Percy felt his heart bottom out for a second before he remembered that it was just teasing, among friends, just what he wanted. "You're a tease." Percy pouted and Hermione rolled her eyes with a smile on her face.
After moments of just talking the trolley came in and Percy nudged Hermione to get her attention. "Two chocolate frogs and Bertie Botts every flavor beans"
Percy handed over the money and gave a chocolate frog to Hermione, "What a nice young man." The cart lady said with a smile on her face, "My Rufus would always buy me my favorite sweets as well."
Percy and Hermione blushed as they shook their heads, "No-", "We're not-"
The cart lady just laughed and continued to sell to Harry and Ron. Percy and Hermione looked at each other before they blushed and got back to their own stuff. Percy was cleaning his wand and Hermione was reading a book.
"How'd you know it was my favorite?" Hermione asked quietly as she glanced at Percy.
"You mentioned it."
Hermione furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, "When?"
"End of September-ish." Percy shrugged and he didn't notice how Hermione was looking at him.
Hermione's heart beat out of her chest as she remembered when she mentioned it. They weren't even friends yet but they were deskmates in transfiguration class after McGonagall decided to mix it up.
Ron went to Hogsmeade that weekend and came back with the wrong candies which she asked for. "Do you want these?" She had then asked Percy.
She remembered Percy shrugging and accepting the candy, "Which ones did you ask for?"
"Chocolate frogs." Hermione shook her head, "After years of knowing him you'd think he would remember my favorite."
"You remembered." Hermione said softly. Her heart skipped a beat when Percy looked up and smiled.
"Of course." He said and then wiggled his eyebrows at her as he held up the box full of different flavored beans. "The one who cringes the least wins." With his other hand he held up another chocolate frog box. "This."
Hermione grinned, "Oh you're on." She said as she put her book aside.
—
Hermione won.
She was a lot more desensitized against gross flavors because of Fred and George's pranks. Eventually it was evening and late, most were asleep but Percy and Hermione were in their own little world.
They talked about Umbridge, they even talked about DA, very subtly. Percy would always fidget with his coin, Hermione had noticed and said something about it. They had talked about his ADHD and his dyslexia.
Hermione even expressed interest in his muggle camp. Percy just smiled and said it was a bit exclusive. They then talked about muggle culture.
"I admit, as a kid I used to be jealous of the bliss that muggles had, still am." Being a wizard and a demigod was something full time, he could imagine all of the suffering that could've been avoided if he was just a mere muggle and mortal.
"I grew up as a muggle." Hermione confessed and Percy listened with great interest. "The wizard world lets me explore who I am."
"The muggle word couldn't?"
Hermione shook her head, "I think that I was destined to be a witch." She hummed, "Don't call me weird abou-"
"Destiny is a fact." Percy said as he smiled. "Everything is set in stone. If you were destined to be a witch, then you are."
Percy wistfully looked at her, "I wish it wasn't like that sometimes though." He admitted, "I like having choices."
"Even though you're impulsive." Hermione added, amused.
Percy softly laughed as he looked at her, "Fate works in mysterious ways." He said and yawned.
Hermione, affected by his yawn, yawned as well. She looked tired, Percy noted. "It does."
—
They were woken up because of a flash of light. Percy snapped awake with his hand already reaching into his pocket. His chest heaved as he woke up for the first time from a sleep without any terrors.
He looked up confused to see Colin with a polaroid camera in his hand. The boy took it out and Percy felt a weight on his shoulder. Confused, he looked down to see Hermione, her head was resting against his shoulder and her arms were hugging his.
He blushed as he glared at Colin. The boy squeaked, intimidated. "Hand it over." Percy hissed quietly.
The boy frightfully handed it over before he basically ran out of the room and back to the normal room. Percy glared at a snickering Harry, "Really?" He asked, then remembering Hermione was still sleeping.
He relaxed his muscles and Hermione happily buried her head into his shoulder. "Why aren't Fred and George here?" Percy questioned, he hadn't seen them around yet. Harry paled a bit.
"I figure you'll see it in the news either way," He sighed, "Their father, Mr. Weasley got attacked by something while he was on guard duty. They took the portkey, Ron and Ginny are still here because they weren't allowed to see him in such a state."
Percy hummed, he knows how the patriarch feels, it's like when he was injured. He felt ashamed that he was even hit by anything. He is supposed to be Perseus Jackson, the invincible hero. Untouchable. "I understand that." Percy nodded.
"You two are staying with them, right?" He asked. Harry nodded as Percy looked down at the sleeping Hermione, her eyebrows furrowed.
"If you need anything, let me know." Percy insisted. "I'm in London as well then."
Harry smiled and nodded as the boy looked over to his best friend's sleeping figure. "Have you had the time to shop for presents yet?" Percy asked quietly.
Harry shook his head, "There was a lot going on-"
"You don't need to explain Harry, I was there." Percy smiled, "Do you want to go to Diagon Alley with me?" He asked, "We'll get presents then."
Harry smiled and nodded, "I'd like that." Percy smiled at him and took Hermione's book in his hand. His right was immobilized by the way Hermione was sleeping. He opened it on the page she was reading and he placed the picture that Colin made in it.
He looked at the magical picture and saw that it was of them sleeping. Percy's head going from away to Hermione to on top of her head and as for Hermione, you could see her chest heave as she let out a sigh.
With his wand, he casted a doubling charm on it. Wanting to keep a copy for himself as well. His feelings weren't complicated, nor was the situation. In her eyes maybe in his, he just hopes that it is what the prophecy was talking about.
Percy smiled, destiny will bring them together if it is fate. He said and leant his head back once again. His eyelids heavy and his breathing slowing down. His head on top of Hermione's.
—
He was shaken awake by a flustered Hermione, "Percy we're arriving."
Percy nodded and smacked his mouth open and closed. His mouth felt dry because of all the drooling, Hermione produced a napkin and handed it to him. "Thank you." Percy said, his face flushed a bit. Hermione just snickered a little as she rolled her eyes.
They packed their bags that they took on the train and as it stopped they stayed seated. Percy was one of the first to come off of the train after Hermione, Harry and Ron did. He saw a woman with ginger hair who Ron had sped walked to and pulled her in a hug.
"How are you." He asked.
Molly huffed out a breath, "Better when your father is home." She said as she put a hand to his cheek.
Percy felt awkward as he tried to stray from the group, they had already said their goodbye's. "Who do you happen to be?"
Percy froze and turned around, only to meet Hermione's pleased eyes. "Percy, Ma'am." He nodded in greeting and held his hand out for her to shake.
"He's Percy Grindelwald, mum." Ron said. Molly completely disregarded the handshake and pulled the boy in for a hug.
"Has my son given you a bad time?" She asked, "From the letters Hermione and Harry sent, I know that you're a good lad."
Percy blushed as he heard her say that. He gave Harry and Hermione teasing looks, he pulled away, "It was fine ma'am, people are very cautious of a Grindel-"
Molly shook her head, "Grindelwald is nothing but a last name, son." She said, "Where are you staying? I don't think Hermione mentioned anything about it."
Percy raised his eyebrows as he looked at the blushing witch, "Hermione hasn't mentioned anything?" He teased and turned back to the Weasley matriarch. "I am staying in London." He informed, "At an old place that is abandoned by the family."
He really doesn't know why nobody goes to the house.
Molly furrowed her eyebrows, "You're not going home to family, son?"
Percy smiled a bit to make the situation less awkward. "Er..No." He rubbed the back of his neck. "I need to stay in London, parents can't come such a long distance."
"Why not? Parents should be with their kids on Christmas."
Percy looked around and cleared his throat, "My little sister is too young to travel by magic. I'm not forcing them to come from Canada to England."
"Where are you staying, kid." Molly continued and Ron began to protest.
Percy looked around to see if they were alone, "Rodney street, number two. By the park." He gave his address. What is she going to do, break in?
Molly nodded, "Very close to us." Percy cocked his head and nodded as he smiled.
He checked his watch and excused himself, "I should get goin-"
Molly put an arm through his and pulled him away and through the magical wall, "Nonsense, we're with the car, it will be no problem to bring you down to the street." She said, his eyes widened a bit as he looked back to see Ron annoyed, Ginny slightly excited, Harry amused and Hermione blushing.
He was pushed into their car and Hermione sat next to him. His legs were cramped as he was pressed against Hermione. "You talk about me? In letters to Ron's mother?" He whispered with a teasing look on his face, "Is it about my handsome face." He teased and she blushed a deeper red, "Tell me?" He asked.
Hermione looked the other way and Percy followed her line of sight, "Harry, you talked about me as well, all good things I hope?"
Harry huffed out a laugh, "I sent letters about everyone to Molly, she likes to know what is going on at Hogwarts."
Molly nodded from behind her steering wheel, "Sure do." She said as she came to a halt. "We're here kid. I'm sure we'll see one another again." She said and Percy patted Hermione's knee.
"Tell me about it later, eh?" He teased and winked as he stepped out of the car. One small bag in his hands as he fished a paper out of his pocket along with his wand, subtly, in the sleeves of his coat.
He stood in front of the spot, and he waved his hands, "Shadow's dance, dominance enchants." He whispered and a house stretched out between the muggle ones. He blinked and walked up to the doorknob, with a twist he was inside.
He coughed as there was dust everywhere, he waved his wand and casted a cleaning charm, out of the corner brooms and windows opened. Percy thinks that it is the first time if ever had fresh air, in a long time.
Paintings were littered across the halls and Percy looked at them, moving paintings of scenery. He hadn't known that the Grindelwald who lived here was such a romanticus. He looked at the end of the hall and noticed a tree.
With Grindelwald and multiple women the tree branched out, he looked down at the bottom where he sat, next to Estelle. His father remained a blank face, apparently, wizards didn't know everything. Then a text appeared on top of the tree.
'In the realm of shadows, the lineage finds it might. The family's house, a haven for power, dark as night. Blood runs true, their potential ignites. The heirs alone shall claim, where darkness takes flight.'
Percy sighed as he troublesomely read the text. So basically the house is a place of power and dark arts. Only those with the blood of Grindelwald can enter, and the first one to have the power and potential to have the house is Percy.
That is exactly why it looked so abandoned. Nobody could get further than the doorknob. Power, his family was obsessed with power. Clearly, some insane gene also runs through their blood. He rolled his eyes as he looked around.
Furniture from the 1910' looked like they were torn apart but Percy knows that it is because of the age and condition it was left in. He casted repairing spells left and right, the house started to look in way better condition.
The dark brown leather couch sat in the sunlight and Percy moved it into a shadow, the sun dries and cracks the leather. Maybe he should buy some polishing cream and rub it in. The oak floor was nearly completely covered by the red carpet.
The style reminded him of Dumbledore's cloaks.
He continued to tidy the whole house up and at the end of the night the kitchen tiles looked as if it had been cleaned and polished. The piano in the study was tuned and the desks along with the bookshelves looked like they had been freshly stained with wood oil.
He finally went up the croaking stairs and collapsed in the first bedroom he could find. It was littered with personal things, he slowly put everything into a box he had transfigured in and casted once more the cleaning spell around the room. It cleaned the Victorian room up, the beds curtains were restored and put back in its original place.
Finally, the day had ended and he laid down on the bed. His stomach ached and growled, in surprise Percy looked up as he heard a bell go off. He didn't know that the house had a bell.
When he entered, the house must've been revealed to muggles. He went down the stairs in his casual shirt and trousers, and he opened the door.
"Hey." A voice said.
Percy blinked a few times, "Hermione?"
Hermione was looking at him with an amused look, "You look tired." She said, Percy casted his eyes down to what was in her hands. His stomach growled.
"Is that food?" He asked, and then he checked his watch. "Shit." He muttered under his breath, since he got into the house, he had been cleaning it up for four hours long, not even close to being done.
"You're lucky that Mrs. Weasley likes you." Hermione smiled.
Percy smiled as well, "She reminds me of my mother." He admitted and looked back down at the plate.
Hermione laughed a bit as she noticed, "Can I come in?"
Percy cringed, "I don't know if there are any wards up yet." He said, "I think Gellert lived here before he went somewhat insane of some sorts." He then gave her a weak smile, "I don't want you being turned into ashes when you step in."
He looked at the park behind them, "Have you eaten yet?"
Hermione shook her head and blushed a bit, the yellow light of the street hit her face the perfect way. "Molly packed the food and sent me to give it to you, or eat it together."
Percy laughed, she definitely reminded her of his mother. "I'm going to get some plates and silverware." He said and motioned to the park, "I'm sure we'll find a bench to sit, otherwise I'll come in and get something to sit on."
Hermione smiled and nodded, "That sounds good, Percy." She said quietly.
Percy left the door open for Hermione to peek in, he knew about her natural curiosity. He quickly went into the kitchen and took a few plates before he walked out. He quickly put it aside to put his coat on, taking the keys from the hanger and stuffed it into his pants.
"Ready?" Hermione asked, somewhat impatient.
Percy rolled his eyes with a grin on his face, "Ready." He said as he closed the door behind them and they crossed the street together. They found a bench that overlooked the small pond.
Hermione unwrapped the food and put some on their plates. Percy smiled as he finally ate something, "The house was a mess." He said and shook his head. "I'm pretty sure that it has been enchanted, as well." He admitted.
"You look a bit disheveled." Hermione teased and then reached up with her hand to pluck some things out of his wild hair. "You're quite a mess." She grinned.
Percy huffed, humorously. "When am I not?" He said jokingly and Hermione laughed a little as she blushed and put a loose pluck of hair behind her ear. "There was this thing on the wall." Percy said and Hermione listened.
He knew she was listening and focusing on the way she raised her eyebrows a little bit and how she unconsciously leant forward. "I think only I was able to enter the building because it was me." He admitted.
She frowned, "Like an heir, only being able to open it because of that?"
Percy blinked and looked slightly taken aback, "Yeah, it called me the heir because I have potential." He said and frowned, and powerful, but he didn't want to come over as a sort of power hungry snob. "I was only able to open it because I am an heir."
Hermione raised her eyebrows, "Does that mean Grindelwald lived there?"
He had only seen a few photos of the man, but he could see some resemblance in the guy in the pictures. "I think so."
She looked excited, "It's a perfect condition to see into his past!" She gushed and Percy just looked at her with a smile on his face. "I have to see it!" She said.
Percy looked at her plate, "Eat first, I'll check for curses after." He said and then put a whole spoonful in his mouth. "I think revelio will be enough, maybe add a revealus for extra measures."
Hermione nodded, "Hidden runes are tricky."
He looked over the pond and agreed. "I realized that I don't have any ways to communicate with you all." He then fidgeted with his coin, "Except for this."
Hermione looked at him with a small smile, "Want to talk to me huh?" She teased.
Percy rolled his eyes and just played along, "I wouldn't survive 24 hours without you." He joked playfully. The two shared a look and laughed.
"How about we put a protean charm on a piece of paper?" She said softly, "That way you'll be able to reach me, if I would be in the mood to check."
Percy rolled his eyes, "Sure." He shrugged, "I'd like that, actually." He admitted and stood up with the plates in his hands. "You're going to have to wait outside, Hermione." He said. The girl nodded as they walked a few meters back to his front doorstep.
Percy noticed her shivering and put the plates down on the steps as he shrugged his coat off and slung it over her shoulders. She looked like she wanted to protest but after one stare from Percy she blushed a bit and pulled the jacket more over her shoulders.
It was a cold, snowy December after all.
He unlocked the door and put the plates in the sink as he walked back to oversee the entrance of the hallway. He held his wand up and casted a powerful revelio. He turned his wand around as a fire-like light came off of the tip.
He noticed some glowing around the hall and looked at Hermione with a smile through the front door. She beamed back at him. With a swing of the wand the curses were broken and with another flick, a few runes were revealed.
"They aren't harmful, more defensive runes." He said as he translated them. He opened the door even wider and let Hermione step in.
"Wow." she whispered as she looked around the place.
"It's from the Victorian era." Percy said as he walked over to the desk in the study, "Some old love letters are dated all the way back to 1899."
"Love letters?" Hermione questioned as she moved to stand besides Percy.
He nodded and handed one over. The chandelier barely shone light and with a flick of the wrist he lit up all of the candelabra. A warm light shone in the room and it encaptured Hermione's face perfectly as she read on the sofa.
Percy sat in a single chair as he stared at her. She looked up and their eyes met, "What?" Hermione asked.
Percy blinked and tried to play it off, "What did you write in your letters to Molly?" He blurted out.
Hermione cringed a bit, "Nothing important, but private matters." Percy nodded and looked at her again, "You're a new transfer student, as far as I know Hogwarts doesn't accept them."
Percy shrugged, "I applied and got in." He said, "I did apply through the ministry though. I don't think they had a choice but to accept."
Hermione snorted, "The ministry is a joke." She said and Percy nodded, knowing how much more effective the American one is. He stared at her for a few more seconds and before Hermione could look back down and continue to read the letter.
"Would you like to go on a walk in Diagon Alley with me?" He blurted out.
Hermione looked up and blinked a few times. "What?"
Percy breathed in, he had to own up to it now. "Want to go for a walk in Diagon Alley?" He asked, "Tomorrow."
Hermione smiled a bit, "Harry told me about you two discussing it. I think it'd be rather fun if I joined as well." She said and Percy wanted to sink into his leather chair, "Thank you for the invitation. Should I ask Ron as well?"
He internally sighed, "Yeah sure." He said.
