Chapter Eleven: What it Means to be
~A/N~ Here's chapter Eleven. I hope you enjoy it. As to why Daughter is updating faster than Power, Demonic, or Angelic is simply because I'm enjoying this fic a bit more. Also, I sort of skip over most of the apprehension test as a lot of it is pretty close to canon. Izumi can't use her dragon quirk for a lot of it.
~Summary~ Izumi learns what it means to be a Dragon.
Chapter Start!
Izumi took a slow breath as she lined up to do a fifty-meter dash. Next to her was the explosive ass. She told herself she refused to learn his name. But that was a lie. His name was engraved in her mind. Bakugo Katsuki. The guy never stopped glaring at her.
The starting gun fired and Izumi was knocked off her feet. Bakugo had let off an explosion right at her. She got up and ran as fast as she could. She heard the tracker bot say ten seconds after she passed.
"Bakugo hit a classmate with an explosion like that again outside of a combat exercise and you're expelled. I saw your entrance exam. You're better than that," Aizawa said glaring at Bakugo. "Midoriya go again. I want proper times," Izumi nodded and took her start again. Without Bakugo's interruption, she cleared the dash in just under five seconds.
"Good now let's move on," Aizawa stated as he announced the next two.
~With Toshinori~
Toshinori sat a dozen or so feet away watching Class 1-A. Or more specifically. Midoriya Izumi. The girl his eyes were set on to be the next carrier for One For All. He already knew what One For All did to Dragon quirks. He'd seen it with Nana. Before One For All Nana was powerful but after she was a challenge to the aspects.
He had made a point of sitting a ways off to hopefully not distract the class. And thus far they hadn't noticed him. Well, that wasn't quite right. He'd barely sat down when Midoriya's eyes locked on him. She didn't make any attempt to point him out which he was thankful for. He knew Aizawa would probably be annoyed if he disturbed his little quirk test.
"Hi, All Might," Toshinori looked to see Daiki running up.
"Young Midoriya," Toshinori smiled. "What are you doing out here?"
"Auntie and I are going for a walk," Daiki said happily.
"Hey Toshi," Nana said as she caught up.
"Good to see you sensei," Toshinori smiled brighter.
~Flashback~
Toshinori had just finished his morning stretches when he felt it. A sudden chill ran down his spine. He barely had time to react when it happened. A figure slammed into his side knocking him flat on his back. He was about to jump and attack when whatever hit him wrapped their arms around him and started hugging him tightly.
"TOSHI!" Toshinori knew that voice well. His mind finally focused on who it was.
"SENSEI!" Toshinori cried out as he now returned Nana's hug. The two hugged for several long minutes. Once they finally pulled away Nana started laughing.
"Look how old you've gotten," Nana laughed.
"I like to think I've aged pretty well," Toshinori returned.
"So I've heard you've been the number one hero for over forty years now," Nana smiled brightly. "Guess Gran taught you well eh?" Toshinori shook slightly remembering Gran's hellish training.
"How about lunch?" Toshinori started. "We've got a lot to catch up on,"
"Sounds like a plan. You're paying," Nana Laughed.
"I gladly will," Toshinori laughed.
~Flashback Over~
Izumi didn't like how poorly she was doing. It didn't help that her quirk was next to useless in basic physical workouts. Add in that she hadn't been training in earnest until after the entrance exam.
"You ok?" Ochaco asked as Izumi panted heavily. The endurance run had just ended. For her at least. A few of the other students were still going. Iida the speedster barely affected by the run. Yaoyorozu was keeping pace rather easily. Then again she had made herself a solar-powered bike so she hadn't even started to peddle yet.
"No, I'm not performing very well," Izumi grumbled as her eyes tracked Hitoshi the only other student still going. Like Iida, he didn't seem to even notice the run.
"You're fine. You might be a little behind in this but when it comes to quirks I'd put money on you beating everyone in the class," Ochaco returned.
"Ha," Izumi snorted. "I doubt that. But thanks," She adds knowing Ochaco was trying to cheer her up.
"No, I'm serious. I don't think anyone in the class could beat you," Ochaco said much more sternly this time. "I mean it. Maybe Todoroki-san would have a chance with his Ice. But outside of that nobody stands a chance," Izumi could feel her face starting to heat up as Ochaco praised her. It didn't help that the rest of the class was in earshot.
"Fuck off I'd beat her no problem," Katsuki snapped from several feet off.
"Sure you would," Kyoka laughed. "Short of a seasoned pro most heroes would struggle to beat a dragon. There is a reason Endeavor keeps trading second place with Ysera. And she's ready to retire," She added.
"She's got a point," Denki added. "I mean look at Great Britain, Africa, and South America. The Reds, Bronze, and Blues got those countries on lock for five of their top tens,"
Izumi was sure she was redder than Alexstrasza now. She didn't handle praise well and now it felt like the whole class was joining in. "Quite," Fumikage spoke up now. "To command such power truly is admirable,"
"Enough," Aizawa spoke up getting the last three to stop. "You've gone long enough. Let's not waste more time," Izumi mentally thanked Aizawa for speaking up. She wasn't sure she could handle much more praise.
Once the class was assembled again Aizawa brought out his phone again. A moment later and everyone's names were displayed. Izumi sighed seeing she was sitting at nineteenth. She barely beat the Hagakure.
"If you didn't like how you placed then use that as inspiration to push yourself," Aizawa stated. "Pick up your syllabus in the classroom. I will see you tomorrow,"
"Whew. None of us got expelled," Ochaco sighed in relief.
"Yeah we lu-" Hanta started before a thunderous crash echoed behind the class. Everyone turned to see a massive red dragon glaring down that them. The class started slack-jawed seeing a red dragon that challenged the size of Alexstrasza looming over them.
"Time to start your training," The dragon's eyes were locked on Izumi.
"Shimura-san," Izumi stepped up. "Where's Daiki?"
"I left him with All Might," Nana replied as she shrunk and shifted back to her human form. Several students felt their mouths go dry as Nana's form was taken in. Taller than most of them would have guessed. Standing close to if not over six-five. Her long black hair was kept up with a clip on the back of her head. A pair of horns rose from her hairline and curved back following the shape of her skull. She had chosen to wear her hero suit once more. A near-skin-tight sleeveless black spandex with a deep crimson cloak hanging off her shapely hips.
"You know All Might?" Mina shouted in question.
"I'm a lot older than I look," Nana laughed.
"You're getting a personal trainer?" Ochaco asked shaking Izumi.
"It wasn't planned," Izumi replied as she was rocked back and forth.
"True. But this little drake needs to learn how to be a proper dragon," Nana stated.
"Drake?" Hitoshi asked.
"It's an age thing with Dragons. Since I'm under twenty-eight but over eleven I get called a Drake," Izumi explained.
"What's under and over that threshold?" Denki asked.
"Whelping is younger, Dragon is older," Izumi answered.
"I'm sorry to interrupt," Nana looked to see a vine-haired girl step up. "But you wouldn't happen to be the Red Dragon Hero: Keristrasza would you?"
"Wow, I didn't think anyone would know my Hero name anymore," Nana said in slight surprise.
"You were... are an idol of mine," Ibara says a bright smile coming to her face. "If it's not too much to ask. May I have an autograph sometime?"
"Sure I'd love to," Nana stated.
"If you're Keristrasza wouldn't that would make you in your sixties maybe older? Kero" Tsuyu asked.
"I can't really explain that. Between not fully knowing myself and it being an ongoing investigation and all," Nana replied.
"We've gotten pretty off-topic. Why is Midoriya-san getting training?" Tenya asked.
"Because unlike all of you, at least I'd assume all of you, She's never had proper quirk training," Nana explained. "She's barely scratching the surface of what it means to be a dragon,"
"Can we watch?" Hanta asked. The majority of the class seemed to like the idea.
"We won't be doing anything amazing. It will be a pretty long lecture first," Nana said. That shot the class down quickly and most of them left.
"I'll go save All Might from Daiki," Ochaco whispered patting Izumi's shoulder.
"Thanks, Mochimon," Izumi whispered back. This was sadly picked up by more than a few of the girls, Nana included. Izumi gulped seeing the smirk etch a crossed the older woman's face.
~Women's Locker Room~
Ochaco hadn't even fully gotten into the locker room when Mina and Toru were in her face. "I gotta know," Mina nearly shouted. "What's going on between you and Midori?"
"Tell us tell us," Toru chanted.
"Nothing," Ochaco replied. "For now," she adds.
"Oh Mamma knows what she wants," Mina smiled brightly as she hopped in place.
"Yeah I do," Ochaco smiled as she remember the night she and Izumi had comforted Daiki during the storm.
"Get it, girl," Mina cheered.
"Oh Oh!" Toru suddenly spun. "Speaking of getting it," She added as she ran over to Momo.
"Eh?" Momo stopped seeing the Toru quickly followed by Mina running up to her.
"I saw Kaminari-san chatting you up yesterday," Toru smiled.
"Oh," Momo flushed slightly. "Yes he was asking me on a date," she added.
"Are you going to?" Mina asked.
"Yes. He offered to make me any meal I desired along with watching any movie I wanted or going somewhere I desired," Momo answered.
"What are you gonna have him make?" Mina asked.
"Where are you going with him?" Toru asked.
"I asked for him to make me Paella and I offered to bring my favorite movie," Momo replied.
"What's Paella?" Mina asked never having heard of the dish.
"It's a Spanish dish. Made with Rice, meat, seafood, and vegetables," Kyoka stated. "I had it once when I joined my Parents on their European tour. It was crazy good. Guy made it over a wood fire and everything. Said it was the best way to make it," she added.
"You gave Kaminari-san a pretty big challenge," Yui said from her locker. "Think he'll be able to make it?"
"He did say whatever I wanted," Momo returned with a small smile on her face.
"What did he say when you asked for that?" Ochaco asked.
"Something along the lines of 'Never heard of it. But I'll try' I believe," Momo said with a little laugh.
"What movie are you taking?" Toru asked.
"Oh, my favorite pre-quirk era movie. It's called Grease. It's a Musical Romance and Comedy," Momo smiled brightly thinking of the movie.
Their conversation ended abruptly as a thunderous roar echoed out quickly joined by another.
~With Nana and Izumi~
Izumi sat on the ground looking at Nana who remained standing. "I wasn't lying when I said you've barely scratched the surface of what it means to be a Dragon. Our quirks are some of the strongest quirks in the world for a reason," Nana started as she now sat down in front of Izumi.
"Give me your hand," Nana stated. Izumi obeyed and offered her hand. Nana smiled lightly as she took Izumi's hand into her own. "Do you feel it?"
"Feel what?" Izumi asked. No sooner had she asked when she felt it. It was a slow but constant rumbling. It took Izumi another moment before she realized she was feeling Nana's quirk slumbering within her. She could feel her own power welling up inside her. Trying desperately to match the elder dragon.
"Feel that," Nana states. "Your power is far below what it should be,"
"My parents always called me a Runt," Izumi replied.
"You're small yes but you're no runt," Nana countered. "Do you know who The Drake Hero: Emigosa is?" Nana asked.
"No," Izumi replied.
"Not a surprise she was from my time and she wasn't active for very long," Nana started. "She was a 'Runt' dragon. She never got bigger than you are now. Her presence, what you feel right now, was smaller than yours when she was in her prime. Something you haven't reached yet,"
Izumi was at a loss for words. Nana was shaking her whole world. Everything she ever thought true of herself was apparently a lie. She wasn't a runt. Her hands trembled in Nana's grasp. "I... I'm... I'm not a runt?" Izumi asked her voice wavering.
"No you're not," Nana replied turning Izumi's hand over. "You've never been trained to really be a Dragon. Right now you're a whelpling playing Dragon. When I'm done with you. You'll be a Dragon in the truest of forms," Nana added as she stood pulling Izumi up with her. Izumi rose slowly her body felt strange now. Something was off. She felt different. Nana released her hands but the rumbling didn't stop. Her quirk had matched Nana's.
"What's going on?" Izumi asked.
"You're awake now," Nana said as her body started to shift. Izumi followed her body changing far faster than Nana. But after a few moments both Dragons now stood in the clearing.
"I'm bigger," Izumi said seeing she was a fair bit larger. Nana was just over twice her size now. Meaning she had almost doubled in size.
"You're proper size now," Nana corrected. "Now let's see what you have. Try and keep up," Nana added as she shot into the sky. Izumi followed taking a moment longer to take off. Nana flew through the skies at breakneck speeds all the while Izumi was hot on her heels. When the two started to pass over U.A. Nana let loose a thunderous roar. Izumi followed suit and roared alongside her mentor.
~With All Might~
"Look at mama go!" Daiki cheered from his spot next to All Might. Nana and Izumi had just rocketed past them flying towards the city.
"I do believe she's grown in size as well," Toshinori said as Daiki continued shouting happily.
"She's almost doubled," Toshinori turned to see Aizawa walking up.
"Ah, Aizawa-san how are you?" Toshinori asked as the tired man sat down on the bench.
"Fine. Why were you watching my class?" Aizawa asked his eyes watching All Might closely. Toshinori was happy to see Aizawa was protective of his class. When he read the man's profile he was worried the man had no desire to actually teach.
"Since I'll be teaching the heroics class I wanted to get a little knowledge of my student's quirks outside of reading about them. Seeing them in action is a much better way to gauge their levels," Toshinori replied.
"Fair," Aizawa returned. "And what did you think of them?"
"I think you've got quite the class. I'll be keeping my eye on Midoriya. She's showing some real potential," Toshinori stated. Aizawa didn't reply but his eyes narrowed as he watched All Might.
"Daiki," A voice called out.
"Mochimon!" Daiki cheered as he leaped from the bench and ran towards the approaching Ochaco.
"Hey, buddy," Ochaco smiled as she picked Daiki up. "Thanks for watching him All Might,"
"It was no trouble," Toshinori returned with a smile.
"Let's get back to your place. I bet you're hungry," Ochaco said poking Daiki's nose.
"Mac and Cheese, and Hotdogs!" Daiki shouted happily.
"Hmm, I don't know I was thinking a veggie salad," Ochaco joked.
"I'm a dragon!" Daiki countered. "Dragons don't eat veggies,"
"You sure about that?" Ochaco asked. "I know I've seen your momma eating veggies in her Katsudon,"
"Mac and Cheese, and Hotdogs!" Daiki said again ignoring Ochaco's comment.
"We'll see," Ochaco laughed.
~End Notes~ So this chapter went a different way than I originally expected. I was going to have Alexstrazsa show up. But After I started working on the chapter I decided I'd hold off on that a bit longer. So maybe the next chapter or the one after that. Also, the battle trials will be coming up soonish. Trying not to rush the story.
P.S. I plan to add a few things between Canon events. USJ and the sports festival won't be two weeks apart like in canon.
