The Doctor was getting nowhere with the computer he was sonicing when Martha ran into the office.

"They've reached the third floor." Martha warned urgently before she stopped as she stared at the Doctor.

"What's that thing?" Martha pointed at the Doctor's screwdriver.

"Sonic screwdriver." The Doctor replied as he tried to access the database and came up blank again.

Martha frowned. "Well, if you're not going to answer me properly-"

"No, it really is just that." Terry explained from where she remained sitting on the desk, swinging her legs absently. "He was bored."

Martha's brow rose and she eyed the Doctor.

"What else have you got, a laser spanner?"

"I did, but it was stolen by Emily Pankhurst, cheeky woman." The Doctor replied absently before he smacked the computer in frustration.

"Oh, this computer! The Judoon must have locked it down. Judoon platoon upon the moon."

He ruffled his air in his agitation. Terry smoothed it calmly and took the sonic from him to work on the computer instead while the Doctor continued irritably to no one.

"Because I was just travelling past. I swear, I was just wandering. I wasn't looking for trouble, honestly, I wasn't, but I noticed these plasma coils around the hospital, and that lightning, that's a plasma coil. Been building up for two days now, so I checked in. I thought something was going on inside. It turns out the plasma coils were the Judoon up above."

The Doctor finally stopped for breath and Martha wondered aloud, "But what were they looking for?"

"Something that looks human, but isn't." The Doctor answered absently as he watched Terry work.

Martha looked between the two Time Lords, still a little skeptical.

"Like you, apparently."

"Like us. But not us." The Doctor replied and Martha shook her head.

"Haven't they got a photo?"

"Might be a shape-changer." The Doctor countered and Martha threw up her hands.

"Whatever it is, can't you just leave the Judoon to find it?"

The Doctor shook his head.

"If they declare the hospital guilty of harbouring a fugitive, they'll sentence it to execution."

"All of us?" Martha exclaimed.

"Oh, yes." The Doctor answered absently before he frowned at Terry. "Wait, what are you doing? Why are you trying to access the backup?"

"Because of this." Terry answered as she showed him what happened when she simply tried to access the database. The Doctor groaned in exasperation.

"Oh, they're thick! Judoon are thick! They are completely thick!"

"What's wrong?" Martha asked and Terry pointed to the screen which was marked by a Judoon symbol.

"They wiped the records." She explained while the Doctor shook his head.

"Oh, that's clever." He muttered sarcastically and Martha looked between them anxiously.

"What are we looking for?" She demanded and the Doctor shrugged.

"I don't know." He ran his fingers through his hair again. "Say, any patient admitted in the past week with unusual symptoms."

He watched Terry trying to pull the back-up while Martha turned on her heel.

"Okay. You two keep working, I'll go ask Mr. Stoker. He might know."

"I like your proactive attitude, Martha." Terry said absently as she worked.

Martha glanced at her oddly, as though wondering whether she was being condescending, before she hurried away. The Doctor meanwhile eyed Terry.

"Right, what is it?" He demanded quietly and Terry glanced at him. He fixed her with a stern stare.

"You're not acting like your usual self. Something's bothering you." He narrowed his eyes. "Something is going to happen, isn't it?"

"I don't know what you're talking about."

Terry started to go back to the computer, but the Doctor stayed her hand.

"Angel."

Terry looked up at the Doctor as he searched her gaze with a frown.

"What is it? Really?" He asked softly.

But Terry couldn't respond. How could she tell him that she was growing tired of trying to save people only to see them die anyway? She remembered Mrs. Moore, who had died after all despite her best efforts. And now, Terry knew Mr. Stoker was going to die if he wasn't already dead. A part of her mourned the loss of another life. But a larger part of her just didn't care as much anymore. Better to not become invested and not hurt later.

Except, she shouldn't think that. It was the exact mentality she used to scold the Doctor for whenever he grew weary. And at least he was over 900 years old and deserved to say he was tired sometimes. She wasn't even fifty years old yet. She shouldn't feel this way. And yet, she couldn't deny it was the truth.

And it was a truth she couldn't tell him. Never him.

"I have my period."

The Doctor blinked rapidly at Terry's announcement before he cleared his throat.

"Ah… right…" He coughed awkwardly while Terry looked back at the computer as it beeped.

"I've found the back-up."

The Doctor perked up and he started to look at the screen when Martha burst back into the room.

"We've restored the back-up." The Doctor revealed enthusiastically.

But Martha gasped out before he'd even finished speaking, "I found her."

"You did what?" The Doctor asked, his smile dropping instantly.

The two Time Lords ran with Martha for the doors, just as two men dressed in motorcycle gear smashed a door down opposite them.

"Run!" The Doctor yelled, reaching for Terry's hand.

She grasped his hand and Martha's and together, the trio ran down the corridor toward the stairs. The Doctor let go of their hands to run ahead to scope out their escape; but he screeched to a halt as Judoon turned the corner above them on the stairway.

"Back, back!" He pushed Terry and Martha into retreat.

They took off down another hallway, heading towards the radiology department. Unfortunately, the motorcycle man was catching up to them by now and they were headed toward a dead-end.

"In here!"

Terry pulled Martha with her into the radiology room while the Doctor ducked inside behind the two women. He instantly soniced the door lock, preventing their follower from being able to get into the room. Terry meanwhile pushed Martha behind the radiation screen.

"When we say now, press the button on the x-ray machine." Terry instructed as she ran back to join the Doctor by the machine itself.

"But I don't know which one." Martha cried.

"Then find out!" The Doctor shouted back as he started to sonic parts of the x-ray machine while the thing that was chasing them started banging on the door. Martha, spotting the operator's manual, started to flip through the pages desperately. Terry spotted her as she helped the Doctor ready the machine.

"What are you doing?" Terry demanded incredulously, just as the doors started to buckle.

"I'm looking for how to turn this on!" Martha snapped back as the Doctor turned the machine so it was pointed at the door.

"It's always the big button!" Terry replied, when the door suddenly flew off as the hinges broke at last.

"NOW!" The Doctor yelled and Martha threw caution to the wind.

Doing as Terry had said, she slammed her hand down on the big yellow button in the centre of the control panel. At once, the x-ray machine lit up and beamed a large dose of radiation at the Slab clad in motorcycle gear. The figure jerked at once, almost vibrating it twitched so quickly. Martha shut the machine off and the Slab fell face-forward at once. Dead.

The Doctor gingerly bent over to check the figure lying on the ground while Martha gasped, "What did you do?"

"Increased the radiation by five thousand per cent. Killed him dead." The Doctor replied as he stared down at the prone figure.

"But isn't that going to kill you?" Martha gasped, looking from him to Terry in alarm. The Time Lady was squirming uncomfortably while the Doctor just waved his hand.

"Nah, it's only roentgen radiation." The Doctor explained. "We used to play with roentgen bricks in the nursery. And yes, it's safe for you to come out. Between Terry and I, we've absorbed it all. All we need to do is expel it."

Terry was by now wriggling like her clothes suddenly didn't fit very well. Martha eyed her in concern until the Doctor caught sight of the Time Lady.

"No, no, Terry, like this." The Doctor began to shake his entire body.

Terry mimicked him while the Doctor mumbled as if to himself, "If I concentrate I can shake the radiation out of my body and into one spot."

He started to jump a little as he continued to shake out his extremities. Terry meanwhile bent forwards like she was a folder. Martha was by now eyeing them like they were mental. But neither Time Lord really cared as the Doctor started to hop on one foot.

"It's in my left shoe." He muttered as he jiggled his left foot while he hopped. "Here we go, here we go. Easy does it."

Terry was unfolding and folding herself and Martha was genuinely concerned her companions had absolutely lost their minds as the Doctor started chanting on top of his hopping.

"Out, out, out, out, out. Ah, ah, ah, ah!"

The Doctor started to yelp in pain and he waved his hands as though he were trying to distract himself from the pain.

"It is, it is, it is, it is, it is hot."

"At least yours is in your foot!" Terry snapped back as she continued to fold and unfold so rapidly her face had turned red.

Martha could only watch in silence as the Doctor suddenly pulled off his left shoe, sock and all, and tossed it into the garbage can.

"Done." He beamed, when Terry suddenly reached into her shirt. In a swift motion, she had undone and pulled out her bra and she tossed that into the garbage can with the Doctor's shoe.

"Ah… much better." Terry sighed as though it were a regular day and she'd just removed her bra after a long day at work. Martha could only gape at the pair.

"You're completely mad." She stated.

The Doctor looked away from Terry, whom he'd been watching with amusement and pride, and at Martha. He then glanced down at himself and nodded.

"You're right." He agreed. "I look daft with one shoe."

With that, he pulled off his other shoe, dumping that with his sock into the bin as well.

"Barefoot on the moon." The Doctor proclaimed.

Terry glanced at him and the thought she'd had only a day before came to mind about not recommending running around without shoes. She started laughing to herself while Martha stared at them before she shook her head. They were absolutely mad, the companion decided. And it seemed that it was best just to accept that and move on.

"So what is that thing?" Martha shifted the subject as she glanced at the dead figure on the ground before them. "And where's it from, the planet Zovirax?"

"It's just a Slab." The Doctor explained as he also peered down at the Slab. "They're called Slabs. Basic slave drones. See? Solid leather, all the way through."

He indicated the figure's arm.

"Someone has got one hell of a fetish." The Doctor mused before he got up to fetch his screwdriver from the x-ray. Terry meanwhile was adjusting her jean jacket and her purple scarf, completely ignoring their conversation as Martha called after the Doctor.

"But it was that woman, Miss Finnegan. It was working for her, just like a servant."

The Doctor had pulled his screwdriver out of the machine by this point and he stared at it in shock.

"My sonic screwdriver." He moaned as he stared down at the completely fried sonic.

"She was one of the patients, but-" Martha tried valiantly to continue but the Doctor turned to whine at Terry.

"Angel!"

"Don't look at me, you're the one who recklessly stabbed it into the x-ray." Terry answered and the Doctor pouted at her while Martha spoke in a louder voice.

"She had this straw like some kind of vampire-"

"You're being very unsympathetic today. I loved my sonic screwdriver." The Doctor complained and Martha exploded.

"Doctor! Terry!" She yelled at the two Time Lords, annoyed that they were not only completely ignoring her, but ignoring the situation.

The Time Lords turned to her guiltily. "Sorry."

The Doctor tossed the sonic behind him as he straightened to his full height. Terry surreptitiously picked up the ruined sonic screwdriver while the Doctor suddenly beamed at Martha.

"You called me Doctor." He said in satisfaction.

Martha just gave him a look that said, 'Really?' as she continued.

"Anyway? Miss Finnegan is the alien. She was drinking Mr. Stoker's blood."

The Doctor frowned. "Funny time to take a snack. You'd think she'd be hiding. Unless…"

He trailed off and he turned to Terry.

"No." He gasped before he nodded to himself. "Yes, that's it. Wait a minute."

He paused, and Terry waited patiently, then he jumped.

"Yes! Shape-changer. Internal shape-changer. She wasn't drinking blood, she was assimilating it."

He snapped his fingers and pointed at Terry for confirmation. She nodded and the Doctor clapped his hands together.

"What does that mean?" Martha asked, bewildered.

"If she can assimilate Mr. Stoker's blood and mimic the biology, she'll register as human." Terry explained.

Martha nodded, finally understanding, while the Doctor grabbed Terry's hand.

"We've got to find her and show the Judoon. Come on!"

He tugged Terry's hand and Terry once again grasped Martha's hand as well. They ran out the room, but skidded to a halt down the pathology corridor as they saw another Slab coming their way. The Doctor darted behind a water dispenser, pulling Terry with him. She in turn tugged Martha down with her and they ducked out of sight just in time before the Slab walked past.

"That's the thing about Slabs. They always travel in pairs." The Doctor sighed.

Martha glanced at the two Time Lords.

"What about you two?" She indicated them and the Doctor shrugged.

"Well, my angel isn't always around and you humans aren't always the most enthralling company."

"Liar." Terry scoffed in their minds. The Doctor winked at her while Martha couldn't see before he slowly emerged from behind the water dispenser.

The two women followed him as the Doctor headed for the main corridor while Martha mused aloud, "I like that. 'Humans'. I'm still not convinced you're an alien."

They turned the corner as she spoke… and came face-to-face with a Judoon, who lifted its scanner in the Doctor's face.

"Oops." Terry muttered while the Judoon announced,"Non-human."

Martha gasped.

"Oh my God, you really are-" She started in disbelief, staring at the Doctor with wide eyes. He cut her off.

"And again."

The Doctor grabbed both their hands this time as they all ran down the opposite way while the Judoon shot after them. They turned the corner, just making it out of range of the deadly lasers, and the Doctor led them up the stairs and onto the next floor. The Doctor locked the emergency exit doors behind them as they ran down the corridor, and finally the trio took a moment to catch their breath.

Unfortunately, the air was becoming increasingly thin. Already, some patients were starting to slump along the hallway as they ran out of oxygen. Terry glanced at the humans lying around while doctors and nurses bent over them anxiously, while the Doctor started on straight past the huddled humans.

"They've done this floor." The Doctor murmured as he walked, looking around warily. "Come on. The Judoon are logical and just a little bit thick. They won't go back to check a floor they've checked already. If we're lucky."

Terry however paused to watch as Martha stopped next to Swales, who was giving oxygen to a young woman.

"How much oxygen is there?" Martha asked as the Doctor stopped in his tracks when he realized Terry hadn't followed him.

He turned back around in time to hear Swales answer Martha in despair, "Not enough for all these people. We're going to run out."

Martha looked around worriedly before she caught Terry's eye. Standing up, she returned to the Time Lady as the Doctor walked back to them as well.

"You okay?" Terry asked the companion. She examined Terry for a moment before she nodded.

"I'm running on adrenaline."

Terry nodded while the Doctor commented, "Welcome to my world."

"What about the Judoon?" Martha questioned.

"Nah, great big lung reserves. It won't slow them down." The Doctor answered dismissively before he returned to the issue at hand. "Where's Mr. Stoker's office?"

"It's this way." Martha led the way down the hallway. The Doctor trailed a little as he continued to check that they weren't being followed. Martha glanced at Terry as the Time Lady hurried along beside her.

"I can see now why he calls you, 'angel'." The companion suddenly commented.

"Hm?" Terry asked, glancing at Martha.

"Just now. You stayed and he stayed because of you." Martha explained. Terry paused before she sighed when Martha continued, "It's like… he's the brain and you're the heart."

"Thanks, but you're wrong." Terry interrupted. Martha looked surprised and Terry continued while staring straight ahead.

"The Doctor is called that for a reason. He's kind and most times, his heart is too soft for his own good. But he's old. Older than you can comprehend. And when you've lost as much as he has; when you've been tried time and time again - of course you grow impatient sometimes. And of course you want to give up and sometimes you want to shut it all out. But he never does. And that's what makes him amazing."

It was as she voiced her thoughts that Terry felt a sense of peace. The pain of once again failing to save someone lessened. It would always be there, just like she would never forget Rose or Martha or Donna or Amy or Rory or Clara, even if one day she no longer saw them again. But it wouldn't stop her from moving forward.

Martha eyed Terry thoughtfully.

"You really love him." She murmured.

Terry just shrugged; she did, but he didn't know that yet. And he couldn't know, not yet. Not if she wanted to avoid a paradox. Instead, Terry pointed to the grand office doors they were approaching.

"Is that it?"

Martha nodded and the pair hurried inside. The Doctor slipped in behind them, but the room was empty aside from the dead body lying by the desk.

"She's gone. She was here." Martha murmured while the Doctor moved in further to examine Stoker's body.

"Drained him dry. Every last drop." The Doctor murmured. "I was right. She's a plasmavore."

"What's she doing on Earth?" Martha wondered.

"Hiding. On the run. Like Ronald Biggs in Rio de Janeiro." The Doctor replied, a frown starting to pull his brows as he wondered aloud, "What's she doing now? She's still not safe. The Judoon could execute us all."

The Doctor glanced at Terry. "Angel, hint?"

"If you were surrounded, what would you do?" Terry answered. As the Doctor's eyes widened, Terry added a little dryly, "Not everyone's stupider than you."

"They are - but some people are almost as clever." The Doctor corrected as he took her hand.

"What are you two doing?" Martha asked as she looked between the pair who, from her perspective, were just staring at each other.

"We can converse telepathically." Terry explained and Martha's jaw dropped.

"Well, now you're just making things up." She protested.

But the Doctor just gestured toward the doors.

"Come on."

He started to leave the room, but Martha called out after him.

"Wait a minute."

The Doctor stopped and he and Terry watched as Martha bent down beside Mr. Stoker's body. Reaching over, she gently closed the man's eyes before she stood again and rejoined the Time Lords. The Doctor was watching her with an unreadable expression but Terry just smiled softly.

"Let's go."

Martha nodded and together, the trio exited the office. The Doctor led the way to the MRI section, but they stopped when they heard a crash behind them. Screams alerted them as to the likely cause before they even turned around to see the Judoon marching through the doors at the end of the hallway.

"Find the non-human. Execute." One of them ordered.

"We need time." The Doctor muttered, and Terry looked at Martha.

"Martha, really sorry about this." Terry began. "But know that this is for the greater good."

"What-?" Martha asked, before she was silenced as Terry pulled the dark-skinned woman toward her. And kissed her.

The Doctor's jaw dropped while Terry pressed her lips hard against Martha's, making sure her trace would be clear enough that the Judoon would be distracted. She finally released the other woman, and in a fit of cheekiness that was more reminiscent of her second self, she winked.

"I don't swing that way, but you have the most kissable lips, Martha Jones."

With that, the Time Lady left her two companions as she ran off toward the MRI room. The Doctor followed shortly (after barely recovering from his shock) while Martha was left standing rooted to the spot.

"What did you do that for?" The Doctor asked as he caught up with Terry and she just smiled.

"Nothing really - just creating a distraction." Terry answered while mentally adding just for herself, 'And saving Martha from a world of heartache. The Doctor's too charming for his own good.'

'Not to mention you don't like the idea of your future husband kissing other women.' A tiny voice in her head that sounded awfully like Donna observed. Terry smirked to herself. She wasn't above admitting when she was jealous.

But the smile quickly left her lips as she opened the door and she and the Doctor crept into the room where flashing lights danced all over the MRI scanner as it released bolts of energy while Miss Finnegan stood working over the machine. Terry saw the woman's hand as Miss Finnegan lifted it to the controls, and she saw the X mark on her hand. As expected, she'd been processed already and catalogued as human. Her jaw tightened.

They were going to have to change that.
