Four humans and a pokemon allied as the Sacred Swordsman of Justice. Keldeo, a pokemon from another world who had lost his friends. Cody, the shut-in nerd who inherited a soul of courage in Cobalion. Terry, the meathead jock who inherited a soul of strength in Terrakion. Vera, the snooty prep who inherited a soul of grace in Virizion. Joined by Quinn, a budding pokemon trainer with his partner pokemon Genesect. Over the summer, these five battled the forces of Kyurem, possessed by an anomaly that fuels one's darkest emotions. The anomaly has been defeated, and yet they find there is still some summer left to enjoy.

Quinn was happy that the anomaly was seemingly defeated and hadn't returned for two weeks, but that didn't stop his real life having to turn back to normal. Which meant he had to go back to work, and look for other better jobs or even go back to school. Every day off he could get was a day he spent with the other, mixing time between the human world and the pokemon world, but his thoughts turned back to what he had realized before. Once the summer ends, his time of being a dimension hopping pokemon trainer was going to be cut short, and he was going to have to get back to the real world.

And then his thoughts turned to Genesect, who had been heavily damaged ever since their fight with Kyurem. He had to stay in low power mode ever since and not move too much, lest he exacerbate his damage. That was no way for him to live, mostly cooped up in his house just like before. He wished he knew how to fix Genesect properly, he wished Colress was here to help him.

"I'm home!" Quinn said, stepping into his house after a particularly long and grueling shift, pushing aside the thoughts on his mind wandering as he walked inside.

"How was work?" His aunt asked, sounding happier than usual. Odd, she never asked about work, considering his answer was always the same.

"The usual." Quinn moaned, placing his hat and jacket in a ball by the stairs, he'd pick it up later. "Is dinner ready yet? I didn't get a chance to eat lunch at work and…" he stopped as he entered the living room, seeing his smiling aunt, his smiling uncle, and a very familiar scientist. Granted, the lab coat looked much more mundane, and the blue ring of hair was nowhere to be seen, but the glasses, the blonde hair…

"Quinn." he snapped to, looking at Colress sitting on the couch with his aunt. His uncle was sitting in his usual old chair in the far corner of the room. The three of them looked like they had a dirty little secret.

"Colress…it's…nice to…uhm…hey." Quinn stammered, not thinking he was ever going to see him again, he figured Colress gave him Genesect and the pokeballs as mementos and nothing more, especially with the dimensions clising up "What are you doing here?"

"I figured I would tell you in person. You have been getting my messages, yes?" Colress winked at Quinn.

"Uh…yeah the messages about the…"

"The internship."

Quinn's heart skipped a beat "Yeah how could I…forget…" he stammered, faltering.

"You've been approved." Colress smiled, Quinn felt a hollow ring inside of him as he said that, barely registering that his aunt stood and wrapped him in a hug.

"Why didn't you tell us about the internship!?" she asked excitedly, kissing him on the forehead.

"I…know how much you two like surprises," he smiled. His thoughts turned to his aunt and uncle's reaction to revealing he had been in his father's study and found Genesect Prime. They couldn't exactly ground a twenty year old, but it was clear they weren't happy about it. He looked back at Colress "So how exactly does this…-?"

"Why don't we head upstairs and we can discuss that?" Colress smiled, sitting up from the couch and waiting for Quinn to guide him upstairs. Quinn smiled, prying himself away from his aunt as he began to head up, trying his best to not freak out in front of his aunt and uncle.

"Make sure it's a paid internship." his uncle mouthed from his chair, getting a thumbs up from his aunt as they disappeared upstairs.

"Welcome home, Quinn." he barely waved to Genesect as he and Colress entered his room, even Quinn could tell Genesect was taken aback at Colress' arrival. Quinn closed the door behind them as he turned to face them. He noticed Colress pressing buttons in his wrist and the disguise faded, showing the Colress he was more familiar with.

"What are you doing here, really?" Quinn asked, a part of him dreading that the anomaly possessed him again.

"When the Genesects are heavily damaged they set off a distress signal, imagine my surprise when I learned it worked across dimensions." Colress smiled, already reaching into his lab coat for tools. No doubt to try and fix Genesect "Your dimension has no pokemon centers. And while you are capable, I know you don't have the means to heal Genesect properly." Quinn and Genesect shared a look, and the nod from Genesect was enough to put Quinn at ease for now. Colress began working on Genesect "If you are here now, can I assume you succeeded?"

Quinn moaned "Mostly, the anomaly is still out there, but at least he no longer has control of Kyurem. Don't have to worry about that for now. I think Keldeo even mentioned that the dimensional barriers are starting to close up. He says that means everything is healing."

Colress nodded "I can confirm. It took more energy than usual to get here compared to last time. There will most assuredly come a time when all the power I can muster won't be enough to open it up again." Colress backed away, putting the tools away and observing. It warmed Quinn's heart to see that Genesect was moving and functioning like before the fight with the anomaly "Now, about the internship."

Quinn stammered "Wait, you were serious about that? I…I thought you said that because you wanted an excuse to fix Genesect or…" Colress shook his head.

"You've proven yourself to be quite the prospective trainer, Quinn, and I want to help you reach further than before." Colress pressed a button, and suddenly Genesect eyes lit up, displaying against the wall Quinn caring for Genesect, the two of them fighting the anomaly.

"How did you…" Quinn stammered, uncertain if that function was added the first time or the second time Colress fixed Genesect.

"The bond between pokemon and trainer, that is what I have been studying since I left Team Plasma. And I want you to join me as well." Colress said.

Quinn opened and closed his mouth, his legs giving out and making him sit on the edge of the bed. An internship in the pokemon world. The pokemon world! A chance to discover new things and uncover new mysteries, things he'd never see here. But then he remembered what Colress said before, how it was requiring more energy to travel the dimensions like he had. If he had to guess, once the dimensional walls were completely sealed up, traveling the dimension would probably be impossible. When everything returned to normal, there'd be no going back, whichever way he went. He would be stuck wherever he went.

"You're asking me to leave everything behind." Quinn murmured, and Colress' silence was enough to know the thought crossed his mind as well. "No ones gonna know that I went to an entire other dimension." he leaned over into himself.

"Quinn, you admittedly do not have much here." Genesect chimed in, it was a sucker punch to hear Genesect say it, even if it was the truth "You are currently in a job that you have admitted to making you very unhappy, with no current plans for the future."

"But…Cody and the others? My family?" Quinn began.

"Would be happy to know you are doing something you enjoy." Genesect countered "I will follow you wherever you go, Quinn. But I must agree that becoming a trainer would be your best course of action."

"It fascinates me to no end how much you interacting with Genesect Prime has made him grow as he has." Colress smiled "You are correct, I am asking a lot of you, but I believe deep down, you know what you want to do."

Quinn nodded despite his apprehension, he stood up shaking legs "I know you're right…but my aunt and uncle deserve to know what this is really about." Quinn said, moving towards his door and opening, only to see his aunt and uncle on the other end, clearly eavesdropping. Quinn stepped back, but the somber look on their faces, coupled with both of them trying to fight back tears was enough for him to realize they heard everything, and knew exactly what it meant.

"Quinn…can we come in?" his aunt finally spoke up, his uncle wrapping her in a side hug. Quinn nodded wordlessly, the two of them walking inside. It was then Quinn realized how small his room was, with all of them in here. It was tightly packed, but that wasn't important right now.

"So I guess that talk of an internship wasn't true then, hmm?" his uncle asked Colress.

"Not necessarily." Was all Colress said, and then all eyes rested on Quinn, and he became painfully aware that they were waiting for his answer.

"I…c'mon I can't just…leave everything here behind." Quinn stammered "I have…work tomorrow and…-?" He was surprised when his aunt groaned in annoyance.

"You're making this harder than it needs to be." his aunt stood up.

"Auntie I can't…I can't guarantee I'll ever return here, don't you see that?"

"What I see is you walking away from a once in a lifetime opportunity. You're being offered a job, an education, doing something I know you love. This is everything I ever wanted for you."

Quinn didn't dare look at anyone, not his aunt, not Genesect or Colress, lest he just break down and burst into tears at their encouraging expressions. She was right, he wanted this, he wanted this so bad. But this was too much too soon. This was a leap into the unknown and he was terrified "I…can't go…I want to go, but I can't…-!"

"You can!" his aunt continued "You'll go, and live your best life. It's what we want, it's what your mother and father would have wanted." Quinn could see she was starting to cry "Because God forbid we be the ones to hold you back from doing what you were meant for." she wiped away the tears, only for them to come streaming right back "God forbid we keep you tied down here, away from what you love. You can't hide from this because you're scared."

Quinn finally looked up, at all of them, stoic faces that mixed between bewilderment and reassurance, bewilderment at his aunt's impassioned speech, and reassurance to know that they agreed with the sentiment. He was furious at the tears that were forming at the corner of his eyes as he laughed "Okay…okay…" he whispered, accepting the hug from his aunt and uncle "I guess… I'll have to put in my three weeks notice."

"And transfer ownership of your car…" his uncle added "And determine how to dole out your possessions and inheritance…I mean whatever you aren't taking you to that Pokeman world." Quinn didn't bother correcting him.

"I mean I only had like two thousand dollars to my name. That's not gonna be too hard." Quinn smirked.

"Who knew there was so much involved in moving to another dimension?" his aunt nodded, standing up with his uncle as they both walked out of his room, leaving him with Colress and Genesect.

"You're doing a brave thing, Quinn, and I look forward to seeing what you bring." Colress smiled, tapping Genesect, fully repaired, and leaving the two of them alone. Quinn looked at Genesect, and even though Genesect was unexpressive, he knew he was happy deep down too.

"Looks like we're going on an adventure." Quinn smiled, his hand resting on Genesect's chassis. It warmed Quinn's heart to see Genesect finally stand up since they returned from the battle.

"I'd travel with no one else." Genesect beeped. Quinn nodded, reaching into his pocket and grabbing his phone, going into the group chat with Cody and the others.

"Alright let's run through the list one more time. Ready Genesect?" Quinn threw the backpack onto his bed; one of the last things in his old room before it was about to become a spare guest bed. The last three weeks had been a rush, getting everything ready to say goodbye to one world, and then hello to a new world. He placed the earbud in his ear and turned the translator on his phone on, ready for Genesect.

"Confirmed." Genesect beeped.

"Water bottle?"

"Present."

"Energy Bars?"

"Present."

"First aid kit?"

"Present."

"Alright…that's all the normal stuff…" Quinn nodded, looking at the small box of extra things Colress had procured for him "Journal?"

"Present."

"...Potions?" Quinn asked more confirmation that was indeed what he was holding.

"Present."

"And these are the last things…" Quinn hummed, looking at the five pokeballs he was handed a month ago. Rather than put him in his bag, he put them on a belt that Colress had given him, it was a belt for holding pokeballs, large, considering his size. He clipped the five balls onto it, Genesect's ball already on the clip, the first one, as a matter of fact.

"So then…" Quinn looked to Genesect, placing his hand on his head "You ready?"

"I am." Genesect said "Are you?"

His breath caught in his throat, it still did everytime he thought about what he was actually going to do. Travelling to the pokemon world, starting a new life, saying goodbye to everything he knew. He nodded "As I'll ever be." he said, grabbing his bag and walking downstairs, Genesect hovering to follow him.

When they stepped outside, he couldn't help but laugh at the ensemble of people gathered here: Colress, his aunt and uncle, Cody, Terry, Vera and Keldeo all standing around waiting for him to say goodbye. He approached his aunt and uncle, who wrapped him in a hug as tight as can be, and of course he hugged back just as hard, he'd be remembering that for a long time. He turned to Terry, Vera and Keldeo next.

"You better kick some ass when you're there, man!" Quinn smiled fist bumped Terry. They knew his position was mostly going to be research, but it was a nice gesture all the same.

"If Colress is dressed like that, I can't help but wonder what you're gonna end up wearing when you're living there. I'd ask for pics but…" Vera hummed, and Quinn had to agree. The fashion sense over there seemed eclectic to say the least. He had to wonder how much of his old sense of fashion would be sacrificed when he was over there.

"You're gonna make a lot of new pokemon friends over there. I know you'll treat them well." Keldeo said, also sure to nod to Genesect, who whirred in response. Quinn had to admit, that was probably the part he was most excited for. Quinn was about to walk away when Keldeo stopped him one more time "Oh and…since this is probably the last time I'll ever see you…" Keldeo inhaled "I never liked the name Blue."

Quinn blinked in surprise "Oh my god! Why didn't you ever say anything?" Quinn couldn't help but laugh, not noticing the silent, furious smile on Keldeo's muzzle "I mean if you hated that, you'd have probably hated the name I came up with for our group."

"Which was…-?" Terry asked.

"The Sacred Swordsmen of Justice." Quinn said proudly, noticing everyone's groaning in disapproval.

"It's a little on the nose." Vera frowned.

"And wordy." Keldeo added.

"Ah you guys wouldn't get it," Quinn said, deciding to ignore the continued groans, and then he turned to Cody, slightly removed from the others, smiling in a way that had Quinn knowing he was struggling to keep it together. Quinn's smile faltered for a moment as he walked up and hugged Cody "You're gonna do just fine, man."

"I'm supposed to tell you that." Cody managed, two firm pats on the back from Quinn, a mumble from Cody and he let go.

"Take care of all of my stuff for me, yeah?" he asked, trying to break the tension, making Cody nod a little more enthusiastically.

A nod, and Quinn walked away. He and Genesect turned to Colress "Alright, we're ready." Colress nodded, pressing some buttons on his wrist computer as Quinn turned to face the others again "I'd say I'll be sure to write…but I doubt that would work anyways." Quinn offered, relieved to see the others, even Cody, laughing. He could hear the portal open behind him, the way it shook and wavered made Quinn remember that the barriers were beginning to heal up, he could see it was struggling to stay open, meaning he didn't have much time "...Goodbye everybody!" He waved with a bright smile, walking through the portal with Colress and Genesect. He could see the others on the other side of the portal for a moment longer before it closed behind him. His heart skipped a beat as the finality of his choice hit him, but when he turned around, seeing Genesect and Colress already facing and walking towards the world of Pokemon, those anxieties died down for a moment. Quinn joined them, eager to see what the pokemon world had in store for him.

Cody couldn't help but stare at where he portal was for a moment longer. A dull ringing in his ears as he heard the others walking up to him, while Quinn's aunt and uncle went back inside their home.

"Ready to get going?" Vera asked. Cody blinked back, looking at them for a moment before nodding weakly.

"Yeah…lemme just use the bathroom first." Cody muttered, walking away and knocking on the door and making his request. He slowly walked towards the bathroom, the ringing in his ears growing louder and louder.

Cody locked himself in the bathroom, his back to the door as he slid down to the cool tile below. His hand on his chest as his breathing turned ragging. Quinn was gone, gone forever now, and if this is how he reacted when he left. Cody was mortified how he'd feel when it was time to say goodbye to Keldeo?
