Invasion Part 2 of 3
The size of the spaceship was like something out of an old science fiction movie, massive in scale with a length that scaled to the length of around a mile and the width of a football stadium. Mako had never seen anything of that scale before in his life, he swallowed thickly before speaking, "Ok…..that;…that's a really big ship…." he said numbly. He shook his head as the bottom section of the Kresh ship opened up with a platoon of crimson armored soldiers flying out. "And that's a lot of people in the ship!" Invincible said before hitting the side of his helmet, "Thirteen we have some company!"
'The Kresh?! Here already?' the heroine asked. 'Alright listen, Mako I want you to get me and the other astronauts back to the Galderian ship, you, me, and the other soldiers will hold them off while the ship takes off for Earth. You take me with you when you go, to join them and hopefully we get a head start back to Earth ahead of them.' she planned out.
Mako nodded, "Got it," he said before turning to the Tech Jackets, "You guys think you can buy me a few minutes?" he asked.
Zack raised his hands, "Dude." he replied as a pair of large blaster weapons emerged from both the topside and underside of his forearms, a rocket launcher slide into place on his shoulder, and his chest compartment extend out a pair of pylons that gathered a ball of energy in between them, "I got this." he encourage before shooting off towards the platoon, firing off his lasers and letting loose a salvo of rockets with Kanda flying behind him as a row of explosions took out the front line of alien troops while Mako doubled back towards the surface of the planet.
Invincible broke through the clouds on his way back to the surface of the planet, down below he could see the white space suits of the astronauts and Thirteen against the rust-colored ground. "Everyone link arms!" he called out over the radio. The group shuffled together and did as he said, Mako swooping in and grabbing Brock from underneath his arms as he lifted them through the air and zoomed across the barren land below to the large canyon. "Everyone here?" he asked, looking down to do a quick headcount.
Thirteen nodded, "It's alright Mako, we have everyone." she assured him as he flew them across the sky.
Invincible glanced back over his shoulder to look upon the firefight in the sky, the two streaks of light through the air were Kanda and Zack, but they were clearly outnumbered. And the Kresh were surrounding them from all sides, "Zack! Get out of there they're trying to flank you, fall back to the ship!" he shouted over the radio.
'Damn! No, if we do that we'll just lead them to you, we'll lure them off in the opposite direction then double back and meet up with you!' Kanda replied over the radio as the two Tech Jackets took off towards the opposite direction that Invincible was heading. However while most of the platoon flew after them, a squad of a dozen headed the opposite way, towards Invincible.
"Shit." Mako cursed as he saw them close in. Unlike the Tech Jacket armor that Zack wore, the armor that the Kresh had was large, bulky, and uniformed crimson armor. Raising their arms, their hands shifted into firearms that shot at the flying target. "Everyone hang on tight!" he said before abruptly stopping and shooting off to the left, the maneuver being one that the Kresh couldn't replicate and lost distance as they corrected their course.
Heading for a large arc of stone, he flew through the ovular hole and then up towards the arc, only the flying hero didn't emerge out the other side. The Kresh flew the same route that the Viltrumite did, only when they turned to fly up after him, they were sucked up by the force of a black hole from Thirteen's hand! The dozen warriors crumbled down into nothing as they entered the black hole of Thirteen's hand, their suits warping to fit down into the vacuum that the heroine created. When they were all disposed of, the lid on her gloves closed, "Alright, let's go!" she said, Mako nodded before shooting off from the arch and towards the ship.
Arriving at the canyon a few moments later, the group entered the ship and made their way to the command deck as the engines hummed to life and the spacecraft lifted up off the ground. "We greatly underestimated the Kresh's mobility, we thought we had another week until they could catch up with us." the Emperor of the Geldarians said as he watched the landscape outside the window lowered. The bridge was abuzz with activity as the Geldarians still able to move and work got busy with the launch sequence, Invincible looked at a screen that showed Zack and Kanda's location and the massive number of hostiles they faced.
"How long until your in space?" Invincible asked the princess as she looked down at a tablet.
"Five minutes, but that's not the issue." she replied dreadfully, "With how fast their ships are they'll easily follow us to Earth." She revealed, "They might even beat us to your planet by days if they realize that's where we're heading. If we want a chance at warning your people, we need to find a way to slow them down." she explained.
Mako cursed beneath his breath, "Then how did you get away from them before?" he asked.
Lin looked down in remorse, "They were busy watching our planet be destroyed…." she said with pain in her voice.
Mako's expression faded into one of sympathy as he looked at the holographic table that showed the Kresh's position on the planet, "What if we damaged them? I mean if we take out one of their engines it'd take them a while to repair it right?" he asked hopefully. "I mean we could strand them here while we take off for Earth, that'd buy us time right?" he asked hopefully.
The princess glanced at the holographic image of the ship with a contemplative look, "Perhaps, but we can't spare the last of our men on a direct attack. Zack and Kanda are still engaged in their foot soldiers, and I have the last of our Tech Jackets escorting our ship. We can't spare anyone for an attack directly on the Kresh ship." she explained.
"Then I'll go." Mako volunteered, pressing his hand to his chest.
Thirteen turned to him, "What?! No! Mako, you're a student. I'm not going to let you endanger yourself more than you already have." she said sternly with her helmet's eyes narrowed. She looked over at Lin as she guided Mako by the shoulder off to the side, "For god's sake you shouldn't even be here Mako, the only reason you are is because Cecil wanted you on this mission. You're a student! It's not your place to put your life at risk." she began.
Mako looked at her indecorously, "Not my-Thirteen we're heroes! This is what we do!"
She shook her head, "I am a hero, you are my student Mako." she said firmly, "You shouldn't even be out here! Cecil put you on this mission and when he told us about it? We protested it as hard as we could have." she explained before her eyes became soft. "You shouldn't have to risk your life when you're still in school, you're a child." she reasoned with a somber tone.
The Viltrumite gave her a hard look, "I stopped being a kid when my dad beat me half to death." he replied sternly. Thirteen blinked at the cold tone in his voice, "Look I'm here, I'm the only one who can do anything to help, and I AM going to help. I don't care if I'm a student or not because right now? That doesn't matter. It's the right thing to do." he justified. Thirteen and he stared at one another for a moment, the teacher seeing that her student was not going to back down from his word. "This is the right thing to do…..and you know it."
Thirteen's gaze matched his for another minute before her eyes shut closed, "Fine…but when you get it done, you come back here. Affirmative?" she asked, Mako nodded dutifully. She looked to the princess who was watching them patently, "Get us orbit around Mars, once Mako and Tech Jackets disrupt the Kresh ship's engines, they'll meet with us in orbit and we'll retreat to Earth." Thirteen planned diplomatically before turning back to her student as he fixed his helmet over his head, "Be safe."
"Don't worry, I'll be fine. I'm Invincible." he said cheekily before floating and taking off through the ship and out one of the emergency airlocks.
Soaring across the expanse of the barren planet, Mako could make out the ship from miles away, along with the dozens of explosions caused by Zack and Kanda. a small squad of the Kresh broke off from the attack on the Geldarian champions and turned their attention towards Invincible as he flew head on at them, before they could even fire, Invincible tore his fist through one of them on the way to Zack as he formed a shield to block a barrage of energy fire.
Invincible flew around from behind and punched engaged with the firing squad, "Hey Zack! We got a plan!" Mako said over the comms as he bashed the helmet of one of the Kresh with his fist and then uppercutted another with a rising spin. One of the blasters hit him dead center in the chest, however the effect merely stung the Viltrumite and dropped down from above and slammed his foot down through the one who shot him.
Zack flew behind Mako and blasted another of the Kresh, "I know! Lin filled me in, but I don't know if the three of us are going to be able to damage the engine bad enough that they'll have to stop." he said as he fired a trio of rockets to some of the enemy forces. "Kanda get between us!" he called out as his friend was nicked by a blaster bolt, due to him being a Gelderian, his Tech Jacket didn't offer the same level of protection that it did to Zack.
"Here's my plan, I'll lead the way to it since I'm more durable, you follow behind me and lite the thing up with everything you guys have." he explained as he pointed at the large set of thrusters on the back of the ship.
Zack turned to him, "Dude that thing is the of a building, I mean maybe if there were six more of me and Kanda….." he said doubtfully.
Looked at it again…the diagram that Lin showed him didn't really capture the scale, "Well we don't really have much of an option here. Just damage it as best you can." he decided, Anything is better then letting it catch up to the Geldarian's ship. he thought as he took off with his fists raised in front of him while Zack and Kanda flew after him. Each Kresh warrior he collided with was like hitting a speed bump, and flying to the engine was like taking an old car onto an old dirt road.
Grabbing one of the Kresh he hit, he slammed it into a few of it's comrades before hitting the ship at the gap between the engines, Kanda and Zack split off, one going up and the other down at an thruster each, unloading into the great big ports of heat and pressure with the armaments of their suits. Explosions littered the engines, the entire ship seemed to sputter from the attack…..but it continued it's accent into the sky. "Ok tell me that at least did something!?" Mako asked.
Zack hovered away as his suit scanned the damage, Thruster Integrity: 77% his suit said to him. "That did something but it's not enough to make it slow down." he said doubtfully before an bolt of energy hit him in the back, making him flip forward through the air, shooting back at his attacker as he flipped. Invincible flew up to the rim of the thruster and grabbed ahold of the metal, holding onto it as he flew along the rim and tore up the outer ring, "Ok that's better!" he called out as e raised both his arms at the squad of Kresh….only to watch as they flew away in retreat. "Huh….that's new."
Invincible ripped out the part of the rim and tossed it aside, the thruster flickering until it turned dark. Turning his head around to Zack and Kanda, he saw the enemy forces pulling back, flying over to them he noticed that the spaceship's rise through the clouds was now much slower than before, "Did that do it?" he asked.
Zack held his hand to the side of his helmet, "This is Zack, Lin did we-" he began before something shot out of the ship from over their heads.
Looking up Mako saw a large shape pass overhead followed by what looked like a thick steel cable that stretched on for….miles. All in the direction of….
"Oh Shit!" Mako and Zack exclaimed at once before taking off, "Ok what is this thing? A space harpoon?!" Mako asked as he followed the cable above his head.
"A what?" Kanda asked.
Zack shook his head, "No it's not. I've fought one of these things before, but how the Kresh got one is beyond me." Zack said as they flew ahead, the cable above them becoming more and more taught as they closed in on the end. At the end of the cable wasn't a pointe tip, but a mechanical torso with arms, claws, and a serpent like head, and Invincible realized it wasn't a metal cable above them, but a long tail, "It's a Scavengine!"
Kanda and Zack fired at the metallic creature, making it look over it's shoulder, shifting it's hip the tail swung out and swiped out at the three, knocking Kanda off course, "These thing scour the universe for ships and basically destroys them for food! We can't let it get to the mothership!" Zack said as he and Invincible flew after it into space, the serpent like machine curving up towards the ship as it reached orbit.
Invincible flew into the tail of the Scavengine directly, grabbing onto the less armored underside with the intent to pull it off course, the machine stalled in midair and turned around to lunge at Invincible as Tech Jacket fired at it, his plasma bolts hitting the outer armor and not doing much damage to the machine as it's fist slammed into Invincible against it's body, rattling the teen as he was grabbed, the machine's serpent like mouth opening to reveal a mouth full of rotating saws!
Invicnible's hands shot up and grabbed the top and bottom portion of the mouth as he fought against the pull of the machine, "Nope! I have been chewed on enough this week thank you very much!" the Viltrumite exclaimed before Zack flew in and punched the side of the scavengine's head, loosing it's grip on Invincible who kicked it off.
"This is bad, I saw one of these things carve through a dozen Kresh drop ships once. They don't stop until they're full and these things eat starships." Zack said as the meachine creature re-oriented itself.
"So they have a trained ship breaker, great. How did you destroy it?" Mako asked as he looked at Zack.
The teen rubbed the back of his helmet, "Well I didn't so much as destroy it. I just distracted it long enough for everyone else to escape, then I went into deep space flight and outran it." he explained. Mako cursed under his breath, "But look, we can't let that thing get close to the ship, it'll do the damage we did to the Kresh ship in no time. We got to stall it."
Mako looked over his shoulder at the Galderian ship, and then down to the planet where the Kresh ship was slowly but surely catching up to the other ship. We don't have the firepower to keep both this thing and the Kresh at bay long enough for the Geldarians to escape, and if they go then there's no way to warn Earth about this! he thought in a panic as he looked over at Zack. "…ok listen, I'm going to take this thing, and ram it into the Kresh ship, while they're distracted with me you and the ship take off for Earth."
Zack turned to him in bewilderment, "What?!" he barked out. "That's insane you won't be able to take them both on!"
"Don't worry as soon as you guys get going I'll fly after you, the ship is limping along so I'll ditch and catch up with you guys." he explained. Zack looked down unsurely, Mako reached his hand out and put it on his shoulder, "Listen, if something happens….well for one, tell Thirteen I'm sorry. And two, get back to Earth as fast as possible, get in touch with U.A., my school, and tell them what happened, they'll pass it along to Cecil of the GDA. And he'll get Earth ready faster then any politican on the planet." he said. before shooting back towards the Scavegngine.
Invincible tackled the beast through space and directed the two of them towards the Kresh ship where the end of it's tail still resided, as they broke back through the atmosphere of the planet, the back of the machine began to grow red hot with friction while Invincible let lose a continuous series of quick jabs to the machine's chest compartment, each hit denting the metal chassis until he twisted his shoulder and reeled his arm far back and then threw it into the chest of the machine, it's head reeled forward as it let out a silent cry in the vacuum of space before the pair crashed into the top of the Kresh ship.
The impact rattled the entire ship while Invincible pushed off from the ship, "Mako! Get back here now, we're leaving!" he heard Thirteen's voice before he saw it.
A large crack in his helmet from the impact.
Inhaling a deep breath as he could within a second, the glass shattered and his head was exposed to space, whatever Thirteen or anyone else had left to say was now nothing but muted vibrations in his ear, Oh crap, Melissa's gonna kill me. Mako thought as the glass of the helmet she made for him shattered in front of his eyes. Before he could react, he felt something shoot him in the shoulder, turning his head he saw a small platoon of Kresh. He launched himself at them, breaking through the helmet of the one who shot him with a swipe of his arm while he punched another away while he flew as fast as he could towards the Geldarian ship.
However as he willed himself through the void of space, Mars growing further and further, he saw that the ship wasn't getting closer. He flew as fast as he could, pushing himself through space at speeds that he wouldn't be possible on Earth without worrying about flying through something. But still the ship wasn't getting closer, at most all he could do was make sure it wouldn't get any further away, and without his helmet intact he couldn't radio them to slow down.
Oh…..shit. Mako thought as realization caught up with him, he couldn't catch up to the ship.
It wasn't a matter distance but speed, if the ship was faster than he was then there was no way he could catch up to it before it reached earth! And he'd run out of air in his lungs long before that happened! Shit! Shit! Shit! Damnit why didn't I remember that sooner! Mako thought, I'm screwed! I mean there's nowhere nearby that has any air to…..he stopped himself and then looked back at the Kresh ship.
…..well Zack did mention that they're beings in a gaseous form…and they would want to know where they're going…please let this work. Mako thought as he stopped, turned around, and raised his hands above his head to the approaching squad of Kresh warriors. This is the dumbest idea I might have ever had. Mako thought.
Now on Earth
"-it wasn't until we were far enough away that we saw that Mako's helmet was transmitting from inside the Kresh ship. Now the Geldarians told me that they're oxygen based life forms, so he'll be able to breathe on the ships. That's the important thing, but the big concern is what they might do to him." Zack said as he looked up from the glass of water on the table that had been provided for him. Looking up across the table stood the entire U.A. staff as well as Cecil Steadman, who had been contacted as soon as Zack was brought to the Teacher Council room of U.A. "See, Kresh don't usually take prisoners, but Mako wouldn't just let them take his crap off him, so our theory is that they have him imprisoned on the ship. Probably because he's a Viltrumite." he reasoned.
Cecil clicked his teeth, "So what are they going to do then? Torture?" he asked direly, not seeing how Midnight flinched.
Zack shook his head, "The Emproer and Princess Lin don't think so. See, once they find out he's a Viltrumite, they'll probably be more confused then anything. I mean they work for the Vitruimite Empire and are basically ordered to wipe out the Geldarians, and then one shows up and starts trashing your troops?" he asked hypothetically before taking a drink of his water.
Aizawa stood with his arms crossed, observing the teen as he spoke, "He might be right. But then wouldn't it be in their best interests to fall back into space? Hand him over to the Viltrumites?" he asked. "Unless they think the Geldarians are the higher priority here." he reasoned.
Cecil looked to the underground hero, "Deep Space observation has shown the ship he's talking about, it's still heading towards Earth after the Geldarian one. His people should be here within 24 hours, and the Kresh in 48." he said before turning his head to see that most of the teaching staff was looking pointedly at him, "You can glare at me all you want ladies and gentlemen but from what I just heard I was right to send Invincible up with Thirteen." he said with an equal glare back.
"I disagree Cecil." All Might's voice boomed, "Young Mako was due to have his internships next week, and instead of allowing that, as is his right as a student, you bargained with him to go on this dangerous assignment." The symbol of peace aid disapprovingly as Zack's eyes darted between the two before looking down and focusing on the glass of water in front of him, finding it much more interesting than the conversation he was privy to at the moment.
The director of the GDA stood his ground, "Look you can get pissed off all you want All Might but after Nolan's betrayal, Earth needed a win. Setting up the first colony on Mars was a safe bet and having Mako involved would help ease things." he reasoned. Midnight scoffed unbelievingly as she crossed her arms, "Don't believe me if you want but fact is we have two alien ships heading to Earth and one of them isn't friendly. So we all need to deal with that, can we put aside this bullshit for later? Preferably after the Earth isn't invaded?" he asked harshly.
The teachers and the government agent stared each other down, Zack felt like a pin on a grenade had been pulled until the principal spoke up, "Young man, is there anything else that you can tell us about these Kresh?" the white, dog looking animal asked him.
He gulped down the water he had, "Oh well compared to the Geldearians, regular humans are stronger, I mean my quirk lets me interact with machines and know how to use technology to it's potential. But that doesn't mean my suit is better than any other of the Tech Jackets." he explained before pointing at All Might, "Like say All Might, hi by the way I'm a big fan, hit a human and Kresh warrior in full armor? Armor wouldn't be that much tougher than a human." he explained.
Nezu cupped his chin with a micivious gleam in his eye, "Ahh, I see, so while our enemy might outnumber us, they don't possess the strength that could rival us. That's very useful Zackary."
"Oh Zack is fine." the teen said with a smile.
Aizawa gave the teen a look, "It should go without saying that we need to contact the boy's parents and inform them that he's been found. They can take him home and-"
Zack blinked, "Wait, what? No, I'm going to help rescue Mako." he rebuked, making everyone turn to him. The American teenager looked down at the table, "It's my fault that the Kresh are on their way to Earth. I came here assuming that Earth would help, but…..but I just ended up making Earth a target. And when Mako found out? The guy helped us without a second thought because he thought it was the right thing to do, and he got captured for it, I'm not going to let him hang out to dry for my mistakes." he said with certainty.
Cecil didn't need to turn his head to feel the entire U.A. staff glare at the unmarred side of his head, Remember, you told Donald you were coming here. People know I'm here, so if I were to suddenly disappear…..they'd know the first place to look. he thought sardonically as Nezu spoke.
"Zackary, while it's commendable that you wish to finish this, you are only a child. A capable one at that, but still one all the same." he said diplomatically, "You came here to get help for your friends, and you will get it. But please let us do it our way." he asked. The space faring teen looked down in disappointment but nodded, "Good, thank you. We'll get in touch with your parents, but in the meantime feel free to go to the cafeteria to get some food." he said, gesturing to the door.
Zack nodded as Lunch Rush walked over to the door and led him out while Cecil and Nezu looked to one another, a plan was being devised.
"Oh my god…this is amazing!" Zack said as he chewed on the first slice of Pizza he's had since he left Earth six months ago. Geldaria had it's own food that wasn't too dissimilar to Earth food, but you can call a purple berry that has spikes an apple all you want, but that doesn't make it an apple despite how it might taste exactly like it. The Cafeteria of U.A. was empty, after his admittedly poor landing the classes had been cancelled for the day.
God I'm back….I still can't believe it. he thought to himself as he looked outside the windows of the cafeteria. When Kanda and the others had come to recover his Tech Jacket, he would sometimes wonder if he would see Earth ever again. But here he was, back on his home ground, And with an alien army on my tail. he thought guilty.
"Um…excuse me?" Zack turned his head to see that he wasn't as alone as he thought. As twenty students that he had crash landed in front of earlier stood before him, with a young man with green hair addressing him. "You mentioned Invincible….could you tell us what happened?"
(One recap of this and last chapter later, let's say…..fifteen minutes later.)
"Oh….wow." was all that Izuku could say in response to the story that Zack had told him and the entire class, whom had pulled all the chairs in the area around to listen to what he had to say. "And Mako is…." he began to ask before questioning if he wanted to know the answer to what he was going to ask.
"He was captured but honestly I don't know if they can do anything to him that's long lasting." Zack assured him and his friends.
Ashido visibly relaxed, "Thank goodness…..god and I was thinking about calling myself Alien Queen." she said to herself.
Kirishima clenched his fists in frustration, "Damn it I just….I wish there was something we could do." Izuku's own hands shook in a similar, but more personal frustration. Mako had been there for him countless times in the past, and now that he could finally, FINALLY use One for All with control, that Mako himself helped him discover, he couldn't do anything to help. Iida seemed to notice his friend's state, but said nothing, fully understanding the frustration that his friend felt.
"Why are you all still here?" the entire class jumped to attention at the sound of their sensei's voice behind them.
Iida was the first to recover and raise his hand, "Sensei! We were about to leave for the day but most of us take the train to school and well….they don't get here until the regular time." he explained simply, his classmates collectively nodding in agreement to his claim.
"Then walk home." Aizawa replied before taking a breath. "I understand your concern for your classmate. But rest assured that we are taking every measure to ensure his safe return. But in the meantime return home, your parents will be getting called but I'll tell you here and now. In a few days you'll be asked to escort your families to U.A. as well as help with evacuating the surrounding area into the U.A. premises." he explained, making the students look at him in surprise. "It's merely a precaution, but with an invasion from space, we're going into a global precautionary stage. Hopefully nothing will come of this, but on the off chance it does, we need to be prepared."
The entire class had a sense of unease pass over them, "Think of this as makeup training for the USJ training that was interrupted. Me and the other teachers of U.A. will be on site to help direct evacuations. There won't be any real danger, it's just a precaution." he explained. He saw the downtrodden looks of his class and let out a tired sigh, "You all need to face facts that there's nothing you can do to help Mako right now. Instead accept what you can do, and focus on that for the time being." he instructed before walking away from his students.
As he left, Zack watched the teacher of Class 1A leave, "Wow…glad I'm not in your guy's class." he said as Izuku got up from his seat. "Izuku?"
The green haired teen looked at him, "Thank you for….telling this to all of us Zack. I um…..I need to tell someone else what happened." he said as he pulled out his phone and walked away.
Exiting the cafeteria, he scrolled through the contacts until he saw who he was looking for and dialed the number before holding the phone up to his ear, "Hey Melissa? It's Izuku….there's something I need to tell you." he began.
Within 24 hours of Zack landing on Earth, the planet was braced for the worst to come, mass evacuations across Japan were announced on the off chance that the plan hatched by Principal Nezu and Cecil Steadman wouldn't work as well as they thought it would. '-what your now seeing is the exacuation effort underway. Masses of people being directed, on foot and in traffic, to their designated shelters, many of which were developed after the former hero Omni Man's true intentions were revealed.' the female newscaster said on the TV of Melissa's workroom. The room was cluttered with a dozen different projects, the blonde herself was sitting at her workbench with a smoldering iron, fusing parts of a deployable safety device she had been working on together.
Izuku bless his heart had called her and told her of the situation Mako was in, the initial fear and anxiety she felt however gave away to a drive to do….something. Anything, anything other than what she did last time Mako was in trouble which was to just stand around watching TV, she had stayed up late last night drafting a number of projects to work on, magnetic boots that could bling to anything metal without sticking their owner to them, binding cord that could keep most super strengthened people in check, even a jetpack for the hell of it.
Lifting the goggle up to her forehead, the bags under her eyes were quite noticeable, Sinclare's abduction of her was a wakeup call to her. She was not going to be some damsel in distress ever again if she could help it, that feeling of fear and helplessness she felt when she woke up in the bowls of I-Island was something she never wanted to experience again, and hearing of Mako's apparent capture had made those feelings begin to bubble up. But once she got to work, they subsided, and now it was all she could do.
'And the news that his son, Invincible, has been captured by these aliens heading to earth is quite the twist on the story.' Melissa looked up at the TV as it switched to the studio where a blue skinned woman with purple hair was hosting on the left side of screen, while on the right was man in a suit. 'Obviously this can't be a coincidence! I mean hell the GDA even reported that these Keesh or whatever, they work for the Viltrumites! The same race that Omni Man and his kid are from! I mean how do we know this wasn't their plan all along?' the man asked, making a scowl cross Melissa's face.
She reached for the remote, only the grab a wrench, she blinked before looking over to where she was sure she put the remote and saw that she had a pile of her tools. "Oh damn it." she said, the last time this happened it took her a week to find the remote in her lab.
'Now let's not jump to conclusions here, we all saw the video of Invincible's fight with Omni Man.' the blue skinned woman provided. Melissa stopped her search for the remote and looked at the TV, seeing the woman's name at the bottom. Chitose Kizuki, of Shoowaysha Publishing, 'He very clearly does stand up to Omni Man, against his father, and pays a price for it. You really think that this is some sort of conspiracy?' she asked with a bemused expression.
The man leaned forward, 'Possibly? Yes! Look at how long his father had us fooled. The entire thing could have been a ploy once Omni Man was discovered to be behind the murders of dozens of superheroes!' he retorted.
Chitose remained calm, 'Ok then, if that's the case, then why? Why the misdirection? If they were working together they would have both left Earth? Or both stayed for that matter? Why wouldn't Invincible's father be back with these Kresh?' she asked, skillfully poking holes in the theory. Melissa liked this woman more and more with each passing second.
'They're all aliens! We don't know anything about Viltrumite war strategy outside of what we recorded Omni Man saying and that could be fabricated for the sake of his son as well!' the other newscaster protested angerly. 'This whole mess started because we trusted some alien at his word, and now we're supposed to trust his son at his?'
'Then judge him by his actions, Invincible fought with his father to save earth, he's battled the League of Lizards who were trying to poison an entire town, and not to mention saving civilians from a collapsing building in downtown Tokyo.' she recounted.
'And Omni Man did countless feats like that before is betrayal, this could just as easily be the same song and dance we've seen before! You ask me, we should launch a few of those old Nuclear warheads at the ship and take care of both problems at-' he said before Melissa shut off the TV with the remote she finally found on the ground. She was tempted to just throw a wrench at the TV so she wouldn't have to listen to that loudmouth blame Mako for things he'd never do.
The blonde support student turned back to her workbench and sighed in frustration, tossing the remote on the table, she pulled out her phone and saw the picture tha they took at the Sports festival of the two of them together. Mina had taken it when they weren't looking, he had his arm around her shoulder as they both were caught mid laugh at something that happened to Kaminari. Her finger traced over her boyfriend, "Mako…come back safe….please."
Ok, yeah this was a stupid plan. Mako thought as he was forced face down onto the ground from the pressure on top of him. After being escorted into the Kresh ship at gunpoint, he was led to a room where a circular podium was ever so lightly raised off the ground. Once he stepped onto the podium however, he felt like a freight train was dropped onto his back. One of the Kresh mentioned something about a gravity well, so he could only assume that it was what was keeping him pinned down as they Kresh interrogated him.
"We grow tired of these games Viltrumite! You well tell us the plans of the Geldarians, or we shall turn you over to the empire for your insubordination!" The commander of the Kresh demanded him, Mako's head could just barely look up at him, he looked exactly like the other soldiers, only his armor was decorated more with metals and had a cloak. "The Grand Regent of the Viltrumite Empire does not take kindly to such acts of betrayal." he threatened.
"And….I told you….gas bags…..I don't…work for the Viltrumites!" Mako struggled out as he tried to lift himself up off the ground, pressing his hands into the ground only for the weight to force him back down.
The commander of the Kresh scoffed in his helmet, "Lies, all Viltrumites serve the empire. Your actions must have some sort of political move back with your people I'm not aware of. But we the Kresh will not be made into pawns!"
"Says the guy who takes orders from the Empire without question." Mako dryly retorted. The commander raised his arm, a blaster forming on his hand and shot the teen with it, "Gah! Seriously ow! That stings like hell!" he complained.
The commander let out a growl, "You are no imposter, that much we can be certain. No Geldarians could ever hope to defeat the Scavegnine we tamed." he said as he looked to a monitor that showed the remains of the machine that Mako had destroyed with his bare hands. However he saw other machines around it along with Kresh on the monitors, and they were doing something to it. "However even you insolence to the empire has benefited us. The only reason we tamed the Scavengine was because we knew we could not defeat it, until you did, now we can use it as we intended it. So thank you Viltrumite, you have contributed to the destruction of the Geldarians." the commander said as he walked away, Mako gritting his teeth as he once again tried to force himself up off the ground.
He instead was slammed back down and cursed under his breath, he knew that Tech Jacket and the others should be at Earth by now, but he had no idea what their plan was for the Kresh. He knew that Cecil couldn't just open up a portal on the ship, plant a bomb and then leave due to how his quirk worked. So all he could do was lay here and wait for rescue.
…or do I? he wondered as he forced himself back up against the gravity pressing down on him, his harms pushing up against the ground until his torso lifted up before he was forced back down. One. he repeated the process, two. And again. Three. he hit the ground. Oh god I haven't had to do pushups since I was in middle school. he thought with a groan before steeling himself and getting back to work.
AN: I AM DONE WITH THE SPRING SEMESTER!
Man let me tell you guys, It took me a while to get this one out, and now I have an internship for the summer to do while I'm also searching for a part time job. So I'm not as busy as I used to be, but I still have stuff I need to do, but I'll also have more time to work on the story.
Next time we have the climatic showdown! But for now, reviews!
D3lph0xL0v3r: Well now you know.
Dragon King of the West: Honestly anything written by Robert Kirkman at Image that's not under his own publisher, Skybound? It's pretty safe to assume that it's connected to the same universe.
Bloodhunter101: Yeah I don't know which came first, Blue Beetle or Tech Jacket. Or rather Jaime or Zack.
abarrow899: I mean keep in mind that not all quirks are like, useful. I mean out of all the kids in Deku and Bakugo's class? Bakugo was the only one who had a quirk that was really powerful enough to be heroic. Aside from that though I could see the Viltrumites having a sort of Sith thing going on, like they make sure that Earthlings don't get too strong to rival them in power by killing them off.
Guest: Mako actually doesn't get a power boost from losing, he gets stronger by pushing himself. I thought the same thing for a while but it turned out not to be true.
Guest 2: Well Mako will grow.
Guest8: Ok I actually had the tournament rewritten, I changed up the events so that there would even be a little different bracket for the tournament, but the more I thought about it the more I wondered why on earth Mako would want to after all the crap that he's gone through? So he decided to not participate in it. And regardless of how Mako would do? He was going to have to leave to deal with levy regardless of the version, he would have had to leave the tournament and disqailfy himself. Bakugo still would have won anyway, Mako would just have gotten third place instead of Tokoyami.
Guest 3: It is Brittany, which is why I thought it's spelled with two 't's.
Fanfictioner8: Ok I am sorry that happened to you, I kind of know that pain but this is honestly part of the story because Tech Jacket does have a role to play later on in the story, and having him appear out of nowhere would be jarring so I thought that this would be a much more fun way to have him be introduced.
And yeah I'm not going to go full on into detail about how other countries would react because I'm not focusing on that. I do hear what your saying about focusing on MHA more and you'll be happy with the next story arc I think.
Also as for the name and stuff, yeah I choose Mako because he's of Japanese decent instead of Korean in this one, and well…..it's kind of too late to have him be a transfer student but that could be another road for a story so I don't see why not?
