Disclaimer: I do not own Buffy: The Vampire Slayer.
In the morning, they were all in the dining room, having breakfast, though Buffy was taking large chomps of her food to purge what she had seen last night out of her mind and the Scoobies were also a bit weirded out by what had they all learned last night.
"Willow and Faith? Seriously. Willow and Faith?" Xander asked.
"How many times has he asked that question?" Satsu asked.
"I lost count after fifteen." Dawn shrugged.
"He asks that question one more time, I swear I'm gonna smack him in the head again." Spike grumbled, imagining how much worth it would it be, now that he didn't have the chip in his head that prevented him from hurting humans anymore.
"I mean, when did that even happen?" Xander wondered.
"Must've been very recent, sometime after Willow and Kennedy broke up." Buffy noted.
"Maybe we could invite Red and her in for—" Spike stopped, when he saw Buffy glaring at him. "Never mind."
Willow was sitting in the corner, eating, when Faith entered as they smiled at each other before Buffy approached and Faith sighed, already knowing what was going to happen.
"Look, B., if you're gonna say I'm bad for her or threaten that if I break her heart—" Faith started.
"No. Nothing like that." Buffy said, much to Faith's surprise. "I… I can see you make each other happy and if you two are happy together, then I'm happy for you. I just hope you both know what you're doing, that's all. But, yeah, I don't want to see Willow get hurt, so…"
"I break her heart, you break every single bone in my body?" Faith asked rhetorically and Buffy nodded.
"Glad we cleared that out." Buffy nodded and Faith nodded back as both girls chuckled before walking off as they sat down, with Willow next to Faith as they smiled at each other and began talking.
"Willow might have a spell, but in case it doesn't work, I think we should find other ways to track Simone." Xander said.
"Yeah, I think I have something." Dawn said as she pulled out her phone. "I've been following social media and news feed to see if there's someone reporting psycho women with enhanced strength."
"And you got a lead?" Spike asked.
"Well, not exactly." Dawn said, showing a post of some street race in Brazil.
"Didn't we recruit some of the newly activated ones in Brazil because their Slayer reflexes made them better racers?" Xander remembered.
"Yeah, it looks like Simone is doing the exact same thing." Dawn nodded.
"Street racing. I'm not sure if that's my thing." Xander said.
"Well, I'm in." Spike said, as the new idea of excitement made him invested.
"Well, Faith beat them once, she can do it again." Buffy said.
"If she's there, it means she's set up a base of operations nearby already." Faith said.
They met up in the briefing room, while Buffy began strategizing. "Alright, so if Simone is trying to recruit more Slayers, we need to show them they shouldn't follow her."
"Do you even know how to race?" Spike asked and Buffy shrugged.
"I mean, I was close, but Faith was the one who beat them and recruited them back then." Buffy said.
"So I'm racing with you." Faith nodded.
"And the rest of us should try to find and follow Simone's gang." Buffy said, looking around at everyone. "If they've got a base of operations close to that place, we need to find it and do a recon, in case we walk into another trap."
"Excuse me? I'm not going onto another suicide mission. No way." Kennedy said as she got up.
"Kennedy, this isn't like the situation with Caleb or what just happened in Italy. I'm not trying to treat you as a soldier but—"
"No, sometimes you get so caught up in being the Slayer and saving the world that you don't think about the little guy and you rush in blindly, which just gets everyone almost killed and being the Slayer doesn't give you the license to treat us as your pawns or how long before one of us ends up like Xander again?" Kennedy snapped.
THWACK!
Next thing Kennedy knew, she felt sharp pain in her eye and fell to the ground, while Buffy balled her hand into a fist.
"You think I haven't learned from what happened with Caleb or in Italy? You think I still see you as soldiers and disposable?" Buffy snapped as she grabbed Kennedy and slammed her to the wall, making her look Buffy in the eyes.
Kennedy clutched her face, feeling a black eye forming already.
"I've got no intention of letting anyone getting hurt or die. I'm a Slayer, but I'm not above looking out for the little guy. You think that because you're the Slayer, that gives you a license to be above everyone and get your way anytime. But that's not how it works. Because I've learned the hard way that the moment I'll want too much from life, I'll lose everything, so I try to remind myself what I've got to lose if I fail and what I fight for. You're only out for yourself most of the time. And you're only with us because you wanted protection from the Bringers and because you have nowhere else to go. So go ahead. Talk back to me again.
I'm not asking you to fall in line and listen blindly to what I have to say. But if you don't get what needs to be done and if you don't like that you need to put your life on the line for the team and if you can't get over yourself, you know where the door out is."
Kennedy fumed and seethed, even though she saw Buffy's point, she was too proud and arrogant to relent and concede. Stomping away angrily, she walked out the room and slammed the door behind her as everyone winced, not that they missed Kennedy.
"Well… any other volunteers?" Satsu inquired.
"I think we got it." Buffy said with a shrug.
There. Phew. Finally. Bye-bye, Kennedy, you will (not) be missed. :-P
Usually I write Kennedy closer to the comic books, where she is a bit better and mature and more tolerable, despite occasional snarks and bratty attitude at times, something similar to Felicity in Arrow Seasons 6-7, but I think we can all agree no one wants to see her around in the story, considering that at this point she is still an arrogant annoying brat. I was originally considering writing her mellowed out and being a bit more mature like in comics, but given where I plan to take this story, there isn't time for it and let's face it, no one wants to deal with her.
I was tempted to have her killed off, but while I dislike her, I don't have that big of dislike towards her that I would do this to her, plus, there are some morons spouting around about wanting to see annoying characters die a horrible brutal death and cheering on when it actually happens, which is just disturbing and I have no intention of stirring that pot for them. The fact that these types spout that annoying characters need to die everywhere horribly and cheer on their death or something close to it, when that actually happens shows that they need psychological help, plain and simple. If you decide to whine she deserves to die horribly: Zip it because I don't care. Get lost and stay lost forever. No one wants to deal with your crap and not only it takes your level of pettiness and spite towards characters to a whole new level, it just shows how sick and twisted you must be in your heads, if you want for every annoying character everywhere to die horrible brutal death or something close to it.
A bit short chapter, but next one will get things a bit more going.
So, what do you guys think?
