Disclaimer: I own nothing
Izuku was at Eraserheads apartment building. He's a little nervous about ringing the doorbell. He doesn't know how Eraser is gonna take this. Hopefully he won't try to arrest him the second he sees him. He brought two boxes of wine to help smooth things over. He smells wine on Midnight sometimes, so he thinks it was a good call but he'd have to see. Speaking of which, he should ring the doorbell. He just has to push the button. He could choose not to though. He could leave the wine as a gift and call them to talk about it.
Fuck it he can take care of himself. He rings the doorbell and waits. They might not be home actually. He shouldn't be busy now though. He doesn't patrol until later and he doesn't have a class to teach. He rings the bell again. Okay, he's not home. Izuku turns around to leave when the door opens. It's Shinso.
"Hey." says Shinso.
"Oh hey man." says Ketsueki.
"Can I help you?" asks Shinso.
"Yeah, uhm. Is your old man home?" asks Ketsueki, "Or any of them actually?"
"Why?" asks Shinsou, he's clearly being cautious.
"I want to talk to them. I brought a gift." Ketsueki says lifting the hand holding the wine.
"What about?" asks Shinso. It's a wonder he hasn't used his quirk on him yet.
"I'm thinking about retiring." says Ketsueki.
"They aren't home." says Shinso.
"Will they be home soon?" asks Izuku.
"Yeah. They should be on their way back from a staff meeting." says Shinso.
"Would you mind if I waited inside?" asks Izuku.
Shinso takes a little bit to answer. He's clearly thinking about it.
"You can use your quirk on me and ask a few questions if you want." says Ketsueki.
Izuku is immediately struck from his body. It's like he's living in third person.
"Have you lied to me at all?" asks Shinsou.
"No."
"Do you have any ulterior motives?" asks Shinso.
"No."
Izuku is suddenly thrust back into his body.
"That was so cool." says Ketsueki.
"Sure." he says looking a little awkward, "Come on in."
Izuku does as he says. He sets the box of wine and set of glasses down on a coffee table.
"Soooo." says Shinso.
"So?" asks Ketsueki.
"Uhm." stammers Shinso.
"You want me to lead the small talk?" asks ketsueki.
Shinso chuckles, "Sure."
"You don't need to be nervous. I consider Aizawa a friend. So that makes you a friend. Don't tell him I said that though. Don't want him sticking his nose where it doesn't belong." says Ketsueki.
"I won't tell him." says Shinso.
"Good." replies ketsueki, "So how's life been?"
"Fine I guess." says Shinso.
"Make it into U.A?" asks Ketsueki.
"Yeah, but I got into gen ed and not the hero course" says Shinso.
"You'll get where you want to be." says Ketsueki.
Shinso shrugs at that, "So how's your life been?"
"I've been better. I killed a man today. A kid really. He was younger than me. I don't think he deserved it either. To die I mean." says Ketsueki.
"Ain't that some shit." mutters Shinso.
Izuku bursts out laughing at that. It wasn't a long laugh but it was genuine.
"Ain't that some shit." he agrees, "I should actually have prefaced that information by saying that he came to me asking for a gunfight."
"Oh." says Shinso, "Yeah, you really should have."
Izuku hums in agreement before pouring himself a glass of wine.
"Is that why you're retiring?" asks Shinso.
"No. Well that's a good representation I guess. It's not that but it's that things like that keep happening. I don't even feel broken up about it. I got the kid's dad killed. He came to me for revenge and I shot him. He did exactly what I'd have done though. That's what's sticking with me I guess. I can't help but wonder how many times I've done something like that." says Ketueki, "I'm not broke up about it or anything though. I honestly don't feel too bothered by it anymore. That's why I think I should look into retiring. That and all the dead friends."
"You're not bothered by it anymore?" asks Shinso.
Izuku gulps down some wine, "I'm finding empathy and sympathy harder to feel. I can not be a good public servant if I don't feel for the public. I'm quitting while I'm ahead."
"Before you go too far?" asks Shinso.
"I have in a lot of cases. I just don't want to do it again."
After that they start talking about other things. Izuku finds he enjoys Shinso's company. He's quiet and funny in a dry way. He reminds Izuku of himself before being a vampire. Although he can tell Shinso has more of a spine than he did. Current Izuku would have enjoyed spending time with past Izuku, he thinks. But it's him. It's still him.
Izuku is really going through the wine. He's glad he brought two boxes instead of one because he has had like eight glasses. He's red in the face and laughing at anything Shinso says that is remotely funny.
Not long after this they hear the front door open and Aizawa's voice calls out, "I'm home."
"Hi dad." calls Shinso.
"Hi dad." calls Izuku.
He can feel three sets of people falter in the doorway. Then Eraser turns the corner from the doorway to the living room and sees Ketsueki drunk on his couch.
"You never told me your boy was so entertaining." says Ketsueki, "We should hang out more often.
Izuku is now getting off the couch and stumbling over to Eraser.
"What's stopping me from arresting you right now?" asks Eraser.
Izuku goes in to hug the man but he ducks and slips away.
"It would be very rude." Ketsueki replies.
He goes to hug Mic who doesn't back away. Then it's Midnight's turn but at the last second Izuku switches the hug to a handshake.
"You thought." he says, causing everyone but Eraser to laugh, he did smile though, before trying Eraser again.
He dodges again.
"So as to what I'm doing here. I brought wine and I'm here to celebrate." says Ketsueki.
Midnight pours a glass, "What are we celebrating?"
"My retirement." says Ketseuki.
"Good for you man." says Mic, he's a little loud.
"Thanks man." says Izuku.
"You're serious?" asks Eraser.
"As a shark attack man." says Izuku.
"Good." says Eraser.
"Are you cool with that?" asks Izuku.
"Of course." replies Eraser.
"You're willing to let me go?" asks Izuku.
"Are you really willing to retire?" asks Eraser.
"I want nothing more." says Izuku.
"Then… I will let you go. I want you to stay in touch though and if you get arrested by someone else who somehow manages to find you I need you to know that me standing by and watching is the best I can do." says Eraser.
Izuku nods his head at that. He then reaches behind his head and undoes his mask.
"No way." Mic says.
"Yeah. It's me." says Izuku.
"I called it." says Nemuri.
Mic slides her some money. Izuku can't see how much but it wasn't a small amount.
"Oh." mumbles Eraser.
"Hey I don't know if you guys have looked into the oncoming U.A. students but-" starts Izuku.
"You're going to be in my homeroom." says Eraser.
"Yeah. I was worried you'd catch on before I decided to quit." says Izuku.
"Is that why you're quitting?" asks Eraser.
"I have dozens of reasons for my quitting." says Izuku as he pours another glass and spills some on the carpet, "Oh shit. My bad."
"Kid, I'm cutting you off." says Mic as he takes the box away, "No hard feelings."
Izuku downs the rest of his glass, "Fair point. Sorry about the carpet."
"It's cool, lil listener." says Mic.
"Lil listener?" asks Izuku.
"That's what I call my students." says Mic.
"Hell yeah dude. I'm the littlest listener." says Izuku, causing a chuckle.
"One thing I still don't understand." says Shinso, "I thought you were quirkless?"
"Basically my powers activated upon my death." says Izuku.
"Dayum." says Shinso, causing Izuku to burst out laughing again.
"My bad." says Shinso and Izuku laughs harder.
When Izuku stops laughing Shinso says, "So that's how you got into the hero course.
"Nope, took the exam quirkless. Although I did register and bring weapons." says Izuku.
Shinso gapes at him.
"Man I've killed at least three A rank villains and got killed like a dozen times in the last year. Wacking some stupid robots with a hammer isn't that impressive. Plus most of my points were rescue points anyway." says Izuku.
"How many did you get?" asks Shinsou.
"I don't remember the exact amount. Fifty maybe. Around there somewhere." says Izuku slurring his words as he is not in the soberest of states right now.
Izuku checks his watch. It's getting kind of late.
"I should probably be getting home soon." says Izuku.
"Maybe you should spend the night." says Mic but it was more of a ,'you absolutely should spend the night.'
"No, I should get home. I promised my daughter I'd take her to get ice cream in the morning." says Izuku as he stumbles to the door.
"Well let us call you a ride." says Mic.
"Nah. I'm good to drive." says Izuku as he fumbles with the door handle.
At that everyone in the room gets up and says something about not leaving but he can't make any out because they are all talking at once. As soon as he gets that door open he takes off (they don't catch him).
Authors Note
I'm finally back. It took me like five brazillion years to finish this but I did it. I know it's not the longest and thats my bad but. Actually there is no but.
Next chapter is going to be more time at home and more preparation to retire and shake off the serpent.
Also I've been considering a chapter where Izuku runs the idea of retiring by stain and would you want to see that? I don't have anything planned for that as the thought entered my head recently but it could be cool and I know I could manage now that I'm finished with my first year of college and have some time off.
dsman: first off I'm sorry that it took me months to get this out and continue our conversation. If I'm understanding you correctly, you're saying that he's a good guy that does bad things and him being a good guy doesn't matter to the public because they will fixate on the bad things and label him a bad person. If I understood that right then that's a very good take and I agree completely.
