The siren of a familiar police car interrupted the conversation: it turned out that Sheriff was indeed present in Radiator Springs, but previously had been busy taking part in a crime scene investigation in one of the cozy cones. He just finished his duties when he caught site of the speeding Boost, Wingo and Snot Rod.

"This is what I was afraid would happen to me," Yoana said to DJ as the cop caught the DRH members and placed them into the impoundment. "I'm glad I didn't take part in this," she added.

"Yoana, this isn't a serious punishment. Either Sheriff is going to give them a community service task if he can think of one or they'll spend the night in the Impound then, be released next morning," explained the blue Reko-do.

Meanwhile, the 1949 black and white Mercury Cruiser accompanied by Cal Weathers, the retired race car who was training to become a cop, returned bringing pick-up sticks and some trash bags along with him. He let DJ's friends out, gave them to the ex-race car, who led them to a patch of ground out of site sprinkled by litter. The unsatisfied gang members began picking and collecting the trash as Strip Weathers's nephew monitored them.

"You would do something fun even if you were to get punished for it," questioned the girl seriously, in negative wonder, widening her windshield.

"Yes, if it were a small punishment," he replied as if this were natural to him. "Sheriff is gone, Cal can't see that part of the road I chose for drifting, I'm going to have a good time," the music geek announced quietly with a mischievous look on his face. "Dare to join me," he questioned, glancing at her boldly and invitingly with those light indigo eyes.

After a bit of thinking, Yoana replied, trying her best to give a genuine lip smile, "I'm coming after you!"

The two hurried to the somewhat sandy road, DJ as a teenage boy, excited and nervous at the same time knowing he was going to something against the law and risk receiving a penalty for it, but Yoana rolled after him at a slower and steady pace, maintaining her facial expression.

"Now, get behind me," he commanded.

The female didn't move an inch, just remained on the roadside watching him.

"What is wrong with you," he asked her in a raised tone.

"DJ, I said, that I'm coming after you, not I'm drifting with you. Well, here I am. Like I said, I don't want to get penalty, plus I really hate getting punished, it can freak me out, depending on the punishment. You said that Sheriff doesn't give serious punishments, well even these are serious to me," she replied more articulately and slowly, with greater volume than she usually would, attempting to earn his understanding.

"Okay, fine, I'll just drift without you," he replied emotionlessly then, began the activity.

The female watched him for minutes, contemplating joining him or not. A siren pierced the air, grasping her attention. Sheriff promptly arrived on the scene, waiting for the other car at the forecasted end of his drift, being concealed by the tawny-orange dust clouds the Reko-do was generating. As the dust swiftly conquered parts of the virgin air it diluted immediately revealing the strict-eyed police car's face inches from DJ's. The blue tuner got startled by the unexpected surprise, yelping and jumping back.

"I'm placing you into the Impound, you delinquent," he said to the music geek.

An annoyed DJ, his eyes being only half-open, his mouth forming a straight line, followed the cop into the holding place and allowed him to put the wheel boot on him, maintaining his facial expression all the way. The female found his face funny and began quietly giggling at him. The blue Reko-do noticing this, but still unchanging his expression, looked her in the eye and stuck his tongue at her. Yoana felt that she couldn't hold her increasing laughter in anymore, speedily did a 180 and continued her near inaudible chuckling.

"What are you sticking your tongue out for," the Mercury Cruiser questioned the DRH member.

"Uh… Just trying to determine from which direction the wind is blowing," he replied in a friendly way then, grinned.

"Very funny, so now you think you're a weatherman," responded Sheriff sarcastically. "Well, you're getting a weather lady very soon," he added.

Yoana came to DJ's mind, he could not understand why the police car would put her in custody. He grew concerned.

The cop neared the female tuner.

"Hey, missy," he authoritatively said to her.

The weather-themed Reko-do turned to face him.

"You're also going into the impound," he informed her looking in her now fearful, wide grey eyes with his strict, blue ones.

"Why, what did I do," she timidly asked.

"You witnessed someone do something illegal and you failed to report it," he shortly explained to her. "You're joining your friend."

Yoana followed the black and white Mercury Cruiser into the confinement, a yellow parking boot was placed on her front wheel also. Sheriff completed his mandatory role of informing the captives of their rights and obligations, their sentence of staying in the Impound for the night, their release date of next morning and other information. Since Radiator Springs still had only one holding place for the arrested only consisting of a single area, the cop had the tuners sign a paper about them acknowledging responsibility for certain behaviors and their outcomes. After this the police car went about his business elsewhere leaving Yoana and DJ together in custody.
