I don't own digimon.
Jun paced back and forth in the waiting room.
In the days after that… 'mess', the chosen didn't know how to particularly feel. She and Gammamon were very much alive, yes. But that didn't change the fact that her brother had been transformed into a strange hybrid of human and digital data. Nor did it change the fact that might not even be fixable.
"Motomiya-san, oishasan ga ohanashi suru junbi ga dekite imasu. (Miss Motomiya, the doctor is ready to talk to you.)" a nurse announced, poking her head out far enough that Jun could see her. Giving her a nod, Jun's attention shifted to Gammamon.
"Ganmamon, Daisuke no yōsu o mi ni iku jikanda. (Gammamon, it's time to go check on Daisuke.)" she cooed and watched her partner jump down from the chair.
"Wakatta! (Okay!)" Gammamon announced and waddled over to Jun. Getting scooped up once he got there, Jun decided to set him down on her shoulder. Then it was just a matter of making the short walk over. Even if the butterflies in her stomach threatened to burst forth and go flying all across the hallway. Not that I blame her for feeling that way. I would too if someone I cared greatly about suddenly mutated into something unlike anything that I had ever seen before. Though in my case, there's a likelihood that I could just unfuck the problem… maybe. Though, a just as likely outcome is me making worse. Because that's just how life works sometimes. Oh well.
"Karera wa naze kore ga okotta no ka rikai dekitadeshou ka? (Were they able to figure out why this happened?)" Jun inquired and watched the nurse look away. That is never the reaction you want to see… ever.
"Sore wa watashide wanaku ishi ni kiita kata ga yoi kamo shiremasen. (That might be best to ask the doctor rather than me.)" the nurse answered as she came to a stop. Turning to her left, a door awaited the trio. Relatively plain as they came, that did little to quell Jun's anxiety. If anything, it only served to heighten it. Clearly they thought her brother was safe enough to be kept in a regular doctor room. At the same time, there was no telling the things that might've been done to 'Daisuke'. Only one real way to find out.
Watching the nurse open the door, Jun and Gammamon entered. Relatively plain as patient rooms went, all the essentials were accounted for. Counters with storage, a sink and even some cabinets set against one wall. Some kind of padded table seat thing that patients were supposed to use and of course, various charts in Japanese were placed on the wall to help with vision and to provide useful health information for patients. Standing in the middle was Jo and 'Daisuke'. The former was dressed like one would expect them to be - blue scrubs and appropriate shoes for this location. 'Daisuke' on the other hand, was adorned in their 'idol dress'. Not at all happy about someone other than Jun examining them, it was thankfully someone they knew.
"Hi Jun." Jo greeted and Jun closed the door. Setting Gammamon down on the seat, her attention turned to the doctor. Composing herself, a sigh escaped her lips.
"Nani o shinakereba naranai no ka oshietekudasai. (Just tell me what I need to do.)" Jun muttered and watched Jo look away. Taking a moment to compose himself, this was clearly not the response he was expecting to hear from her. That much was certain. Beyond that, the chosen couldn't particularly say.
"Watashi no shiru kagiri, Jun, koko de watashitachinidekirukoto wa nani mo arimasen. (As far as I can tell, Jun, there's nothing that we can do here.)" Jo answered as 'Daisuke's' attention shifted to their sister. Letting out some happy noises, they try to reach out for a hug. Reluctantly, Jun accepted the gesture.
"Sore de, watashi no ani wa kono mama ni naru nodesu ka... Eien ni? (So my brother is just going to be like that… forever?)" Jun whispered as she tried to hold in the tears here. While there was still a number of years ahead of her, that didn't change the fact that she would die eventually. Then what? Who exactly would be in charge of her brother's care? Someone she knew? A stranger? A mix of the two? She honestly couldn't say. Which made it all the scarier in her mind. What about Daisuke's friends? Their partners. Would they one day be the last one around? All alone, with little in the way of their memories or connections.
"Mottomo kanōsei ga takai. (Most likely.)" Jo answered and stared down at the floor. A part of him wished that he knew what the heck was happening to Iori currently. Perhaps whatever experiments that Shade was doing contained the key to solving this. Yet, that fucker remained out of reach. Like the worm he was. Typical behavior for him. Not that the original was that much better in hindsight. Life just be like that sometimes. Whether you want too or not. Life simply does not care. "Tatoe nanika ga kawatta to shite mo, watashitachiha Daisuke to kare to yūgō shite ita kanōsei no aru mono o korosu kiken ga arimasu. (Even if something were to change, we risk killing Daisuke and whatever else might have been fused with him.)"
Jun ended her embrace with 'Daisuke' and took a seat on the padded table seat. Splitting her focus between the doctor and her brother, a sigh escaped her lips.
"Soredewa nani ka yoi shirase wa arimasu ka? (Is there any good news then?)" Jun continued and Jo nodded. For once, there kind of was. In a twisted sort of way, of course. Because we just can't have nice things at the moment.
"Daisuke-san wa kenkōde, osoraku jinsei de saikō no jōtai ni aru to omowa reru. (Daisuke is healthy and quite possibly in the best shape of her life.)" Jo explained, only to be met with a raised eyebrow. Even with the dreams of a noodle cart business, Daisuke had made an effort to be active. Not quite to the level of his soccer days, but close enough that you probably wouldn't know the difference. Now, it was almost as if they had the strength of two people. Did that play a part in this? "Shikashi, karera, aruiwa osoraku kanojo wa aidoru-tekina mono ni kyōmi o motte imasu. (Though, they or perhaps she has a penchant for idol stuff.)"
Jun raised her eyebrow as high as her head would allow. 'Daisuke' likes idol stuff? They were dressed in an idol-style dress, yes. It wasn't out of the realm of possibilities, but it felt right out of left-field. Perhaps it would be a good idea to just ask 'Daisuke' for a proper answer.
"Etto… onīsan, aidoru wa sukidesu ka? (Uh… little bro, do you like idols?)" Jun inquired, watching 'Daisuke' jump up and down. That pretty much sealed it. But what to do with that kind of information? She and Jo had been just referring to them as just 'Daisuke'. Perhaps a more feminine name was in order. If her sibling was fine with that. "Etto… korekara mo Daisuke to yonde hoshīdesu ka, soretomo betsu no namae de yonde hoshīdesu ka? (Uh… do you want us to continue to call you Daisuke or would you rather be called something else?)"
*Happy noises*
Jun looked over to Jo. In retrospect, it might have been a good idea to phrase the question in such a way to accommodate her brother's speech abilities.
"Etto… soreha saisho no sentakushideshita ka, soretomo 2-banme no sentakushideshita ka (Uh… was that the first or second option?)" Jo inquired and watched their audience perk up upon him saying 'second option'. Well, that solves the issue. Even if it does bring a new one in its place. Just the nature of the beast.
"U ̄ n… daia toka wa dōdeshou ka? (Hmm… how about something like Daia?)" Jun suggested, only to be treated to a hug from her sibling here. Followed by a hug from Gammamon, the chosen was fine with this. "Daia it is then."
Daia nodded in agreement, jumping once for good measure. Just on the off-chance that her message hadn't initially gotten across before. It had, but the gesture was still appreciated.
"Sate,-banashi wa kawarimashitaga, V Mon wa doko ni arimasu ka? (Now that we've gotten that out of the way, where's V-mon?)" Jo inquired, his question almost falling on deaf ears. Oddly, Jun looked off to the side and ended the embrace.
"Kare wa daia no apāto ni modotte kimashita. Kare wa pātonā o sukuenakatta jibun ni hara o tatete iru to omoimasu. (He's back at Daia's apartment. I think he's mad at himself for being unable to save his partner.)" Jun answered and Daia nodded. While they would've preferred their partner coming with them to this appointment, they didn't look to be in the mood to leave. A part of the hybrid didn't blame them for feeling that way. In the heat of the moment, they had done something incredibly stupid. While it had saved their life, it also technically killed them. Which would be a bigger problem if that fact actually registered in their mind. Yes, death in the Digitalverse and Neo Digia were very much things that had little bearing… until they did. I guess that speaks to the boss's ability to describe events as they occur. Or something. I'm not an expert when it comes to balancing how much of the illusion I need to keep up, okay. Actually, just pretend that the previous sentence didn't happen. Definitely for the best. Right. Where were we? V-mon.
"Sore wa kanōdesuga, sore o hontō no imi de oshiete kureru no wa V Mon dakedesu. (It's possible, but the only person that can truly tell us is V-mon.)" Jo muttered and followed it up with a sigh. He didn't really have anything else to say here. While the temptation to just send them on their way was there, he had to be missing something, rig-
"Misutādokutā, ano kimyōna bō o ichi-pon moraemasu ka? (Mister doctor dude, could I have one of those strange sticks?)" Gammamon announced and flew up to meet Jo's gaze. Shooting the strange triceratops digimon a look, he pulled out a tongue compressor. Handing it over to Gammamon, he watched them twirl it around. Like something you would see at a Digian parade. I don't know what he expected. Perhaps I never will. For now, perhaps it would be best to shift my sights elsewhere.

Some days I wish there was more that I could do. But at the same time, no use in dwelling on things that are out of my control.
