Digimon Fusion Ascendancy
Act VIII: AlphaNova X
Chapter LXXIII: Taito's Ascension

A massive spaceship was seen floating above this Digital World. A sinister being confined to a small hovercraft glared down at the very planet and faced off what looked like an army of Digimon garbed in military armor. Suddenly, a blur of explosive light blitzed through the Digimon army with sheer ferocity. The blur stopped and a figure faced off against the creature in the hovercraft.

The figure turned out to be a young male roughly close to his early-20s. His hair was similar to the style of Taichi Kamiya's. However, this boy did not wear any pair of goggles over his hair. His chocolate brown narrows arrowed as his orange-tan skin was covered in a heavy sweat. His battle attire consisted of sleeveless body armor, black spandex pants, fingerless gloves, and a pair of combat boots. He wore a red headband and there was a scar visible over his left eye. The left side of his face was coated with sweat and blood dripping out of a wound on his forehead.

"Burizalor, it's down to you and me." And then, before making his final stand, the determined warrior closed his eyes and reflected on the events preceding this fated stand-off.

He remembered a simple life before being thrust into war.

He remembered it as if it were yesterday.

Yet, it felt long ago.

(Cue God of War Ascension - Main Theme)

This unique Digital World stood peacefully in this northern sector of the vast Digiverse. There have been many wars that have conflicted between the Digital Knight Council and an evil race of powerful monsters known as Corrupts. This ongoing struggle has occurred over the past thousands of years. Perhaps even more.

But, what happened before the war? How exactly did the Digiverse start?

It has been foretold by ancient prophets that the very first computer, known as Atanasoff-Berry Computer, laid down the foundations of this Digiverse in addition to thousands of Digital Worlds. However, the creation did not stop there. The first patented digital computer called the Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer, ENIAC, came into realization. Upon its activation, the foundations from ABC were laid out. Thus, the entire Digiverse and the Digital Worlds were created.

It did not end there. Thousands of Digital Worlds developed in conjunction with Earth. One by one, each Digital World supported Earth's internet. Each Digital World also ran closely parallel to two other unrelated dimensions. One dimension consisted of the power to transform all thoughts and dreams into realities. The other was a 'World of Darkness' where everything considered negative surfaces and is the location of a grim, foreboding ocean that can make dark thoughts come to life.

As many years went by, more data from the Earth's Internet augmented the vast universe and the various Digital Worlds. Each world's portion of the dream dimension's power starts to give form to these thoughts and dreams of Earth's human population and merged with data. As a result, this gave eventual birth to Digimon. Eventually, other digital beings came into existence including the Digital Knights.

The dream world became a haven for the earliest digital deities, including the Angels, Gods of Destruction, and Supreme Digi-Deities. On the other hand, this dark realm became a refuge for powerful groups of dark creatures, including the Demon Lords.

(Cue Transformers The Movie - Unicron Medley)

When harmony comes, chaos would follow. 2,000 digicycles ago, the Great Evil, Apocalymon first ripped through the Wall of Fire and spilled vast amounts of dark energy across the Digiverse. Apocalymon created various evil denizens, including the infamous demon race called The Corrupts. Before the mass production of the Corrupt race, the prototype was named Chilzar but was scrapped by Apocalymon as a sample. Many dark realms became unsealed, releasing evil entities from the Dark Area and Dark Ocean. After the Chilzar experiment, the Great Evil created the most powerful Corrupts: Daikalor, Mutalior, and Burizalor. Daikalor was the predecessor, who helped produced Mutalior. Following Mutalior, Burizalor was conceived through genetic manipulation.

(Cue Prometheus - A Planet)

1,000 digicycles ago, there told a legend about the First Ascendant, Alpha X, who awoke from a blinding fury and rose to power. His unrivaled strength was told by survivors and word spread about Alpha X's terrifying reputation. One entity, though, emerged and took on the task of ending Alpha X's life.

(Cue Darkstalkers - Pyron)

After what seemed like an eternity, Alpha X fought Pyronmon, an independent entity spawned from Apocalymon's power. Pyronmon was defeated, but he expelled his power and forcefully passed a curse called the Zero Factor to Alpha X. Over time, the Zero ability consumed Alpha X, turning him into an uncontrollable monster. Alpha X ended up fighting the Digital Knights. Alpha X eventually destroyed himself along with his homeworld Planet Primordial. Before he died, the Digital Knights retrieved his DNA to study this Ascendant power. Because of that event, Burizalor developed paranoia of an Ascendant's rising.

(Cue Code Geass OST - Nightmare)

When Daikalor stepped down from his position, Mutalior and Burizalor seized power and competed over galactic territory. In the end, Burizalor's greater potential allowed him to overcome Mutalior, leaving Mutalior with a handful of planets. Burizalor went on to conquer various sectors and established the Buriza Empire.

Standing apart on opposite sides, Gennai and his Digital Knight Council faced Burizalor, Mutalior, and a 9-foot tall light-purple skinned behemoth with white chitin natural armor, long horns, thick musculature in his arms and legs, and wearing a battle chest armor with long shoulder armor, and a long red cape. Assembled behind them are their loyal elites, including the Nightmare Special Squad, the Dark Masters, and Phelesmon.

Gennai addressed the behemoth. "What is it you want, Daikalor?"

"I called for a ceasefire to announce that I will be stepping down from my position," Daikalor publicly opened his retirement, much to the shock of the Digital Knight Council.

"You can't possibly think this will end the war?" Gennai cautiously queried.

"It just means I will not participate. However, my son and grandson here will continue in my place," Daikalor smirked, putting Mutalior and Burizalor's shoulders. "For now, my son, Mutalior, and my precious grandson, Burizalor, will contest to see which of them will lead the Corrupt Forces. So, whoever wins, you and your Council will have to deal with one of my successors."

Scoffing, Mutalior scornfully glared at Burizalor, who was just a child but still possessed a menacing and powerful aura that petrified the Digital Knight Council.

"Ohoho, hello, simians!" Burizalor addressed the Knights in a haughty and disparaging manner. "Yes, it's true. Now that my dear grandfather is stepping down, you'll be dealing with either Mutalior or myself. Chances are I'll be the one leading the Corrupt Forces… no, Corrupt Forces sounds too archaic for my tastes. When I conquer Mutalior, I shall rename my empire the Buriza Forces!"

As Gennai glanced over at two towers, he saw his two snipers waiting for a signal. As his scouter picked up on the two energy signals, Burizalor caught onto this assassination attempt. He quickly shot two beams and vaporized the towers, killing the two assassins.

"That wasn't very nice, Gennai. My dear family and I expected a proper greeting, but you've only proved that this conflict will never be resolved. Oh well, I intend to finish this war," Burizalor chortled as he left Daikalor and Mutalior.

"Sir, we aren't just going to let them walk?" A Digital Knight whispered near Gennai.

"What can we do now? You sensed Daikalor's successors' powers, did you? If we had attacked, we would've been killed," Gennai responded.

"And yet you had snipers ready to shoot them?"

"I never expected one of them would bring a scouter. We even agreed not to bring any during this talk," Gennai regretted this foolhardy decision. Sighing deeply, he vehemently watched the Corrupts and their elite warriors enter their warship. "And you felt that immense power from the child, did you? This Burizalor exudes a greater power than either his grandfather or father. We better not take him lightly. It's time we find equally powerful warriors who can help us turn the tide of the Great War."

(End theme)

(Cue Dragon Ball Kai - Only a Chilling Elegy)

Burizalor is considered the cream amongst the crop of the Corrupts and received the gift of leading the Corrupts against the Digital Knight Council. Burizalor's power grew uncontrollable, and he devolved into his first form so that he can be put under control. The war between the Corrupts and Digital Knight Council spilled across the Digiverse.

Over time, Burizalor's power grew with frightening results. Many Digital Knights attempted to overpower him, but they ultimately fell before the tyrant. However, he was unable to control his form and his power. To conserve it, he evolved a weaker but less radical form.

Burizalor sought a conquest for ultimate control of the Digiverse and started a campaign against the Digital Knight Council. He desired power over peace. Tyranny over democracy. Many Corrupts began to gather and form large contingents in support of the tyrant.

The Digital Knights were becoming overwhelmed by Burizalor and his Corrupt followers.

Just as the dark forces were about to take over, the Digital Knights summoned forth Gennai, who was the lead commander of the Knights.

(Cue Code Geass - In Justice)

By Ebonwumon's request, Gennai was tasked to find five special children from the real world. Ebonwumon found five potential prospects who were 'destined' to defeat the Buriza Empire. Accessing a digital portal, Gennai briefly arrived in the late 1970s Tokyo and adopted five orphaned children, whose parents either abandoned them or died due to unspecified reasons. One by one, each child was gathered and summoned back to the Digital World of the Northern sector. These five children were identified as Taito Yagami, Cyrus Fujita, Sara Masaki, Mimiru Mitsuo, and Leon Shinomori, who were christened the first Digidestined.

Digital Knight Council Base/14:50 Hours (Military Time)

"These are the five humans you plucked out from Earth's realm?" A Digital Knight commander meticulously scanned the children. "Is it wise to recruit human children and to be taken from their families?"

"They're orphans, Commander Brakus. They have nowhere elsewhere to turn to. I picked them because I sensed a greater potential in these five. They may be the ones who can awaken the five ancient Digivices our team found."

Hearing what seems like a hyperbolic statement, Brakus questioned. "You can't be serious, Gennai?"

"Why don't you give them a chance? They may be children, but I believe I've found the ones who can turn the tide of the Great War," he informed his commander.

"Are we really going to fight bad guys?" A small boy with spiky brown hair asked Gennai.

"Yes, but we'll be training you to fight. If I'm wrong, I will return you five home," Gennai replied, partly hoping he didn't have to turn five orphans into potential child soldiers.

"But, if we pass, we'll fight, right?" He asked again.

"Yes, Taito, and I will make sure you receive the best training you and your friends receive," Gennai said, patting Taito's shoulders.

"Then, I'll fight and beat this bad guy!" Taito declared resolutely. "Whatever it takes!" As he made his resolute declaration loud and clear, the other four kids anxiously nod, indecisive if they truly wanted to be in this war. However, they had already been rejected in the real world and had no one else to adopt them.

Why would an army of trained soldiers need any aid from five inexperienced children? Because the Knights required them to activate the five ancient Digivices, granting them extraordinary powers. Unlike their Chosen successors, these five gained superhuman abilities, including super strength, speed durability, and enhanced sensory abilities, including the ability to sense Ki. When Gennai later became incapable of supervising these five, a guide named Orkos took the five young warriors under his wing. Their training was so intense, it was Spartan-like, which would've broken normal able-bodied youth but these five managed to persevere under the extreme conditions. During their first days, the children are getting acquainted with one another despite their different personalities. Taito's courageousness, Cyrus' lone friendship, Sara's love, Mimiru's sincerity, and Leon's intellect. They learn the first lessons of teamwork, both physically and mentally.

(Cue God of War Ascension - Prison of the Damned)

After years of training, their final training was to rescue prisoners from the living prison called Aegaeonmon. Aegaeonmon was a place and would be described as a living hell. It was a prison where the captured who opposed the Corrupts were tortured every day. The Digidestineds' first opponent was a Digimon named Megaeramon, one of The Furies presumed to be concubines of Mutalior.

(Cue God of War Ascension - Awakening of the Hekatonkheries)

After freeing the prisoners, they engaged Megaeramon who could spawn parasitic insects that infected corpses and living prisoners, causing them to attack Taito and his friends. Finding themselves in an unfortunate situation, Taito and his friends were forced to mercy kill these infected prisoners. With her plans foiled, Megaeramon fled and warned vengeance with her sisters Tisiphonemon and Alectomon. After leaving, the Digidestined destroyed Aegaeonmon.

By the time they reached their early and mid-teens, Taito and his group were thrown into the battlefield and achieved excellent results. Their powers allowed them to battle and overcome many of Burizalor's first-generation armies, including a behemoth named Elephantaurmon. In a short time, they surpassed nearly all of the Digital Knight Council. One by one, they crushed any opposition that invaded the Northern Realm.

During a later mission, the Digidestined went to a place similar to the Tower of Delphi and found three gigantic mechanical snakes for transport. Another quest involved Taito and his group helping a kingdom of 300 warriors defeats robotic Minotarumon and a spider-like behemoth.

(Cue Star Wars Episode I - Duel of the Fates)

The Chosen Five later fought and defeated Sithdramon, one of Mutalior's early commanders.

(Cue God of War Ascension - Madness of the Fury Queen)

Then, Taito and his colleagues later encountered and slew Megaeramon, Tisiphonemon, and Alectomon.

(Cue Star Wars Episode I - Qui-Gon's Noble End)

Unfortunately, this came at a cost. Orkos sacrificed himself for the Chosen Five and protected them from the Furies' ultimate attack.

Before the climactic battle against Burizalor and Mutalior, Taito and his friends arrived on Planet Ethos. They underwent a trial of physical and mental tests that judged their characters. After passing the trials, they obtained some specialized armory, which was forged by the Ancient Warriors, the same deities that defeated Lucemon 3,000 digicycles ago. Taito gained the Armor of Courage and the element of fire. Cyrus gained the Armor of Friendship and the element of ice. Sara took on the Armor of Love and the element of heart. Mimiru obtained the Armor of Sincerity and the element of wind. Leon received the Armor of Intellect and the element of metal. The armors also augmented their superhuman abilities a thousand-fold.

With these powers, the Chosen Five decimated a majority of Mutalior and Burizalor's forces. At the end of the First Great War, many of the Corrupts are driven to extinction. Daikalor was killed by Taito and his friends.

(Cue Digimon World 4 - Apocalymon)

With Daikalor slain, Burizalor and Mutalior were the two remaining Corrupt survivors. Using their Legendary Armors, the Chosen Five combined their powers to stop The Great Evil behind the Wall of Fire, Apocalymon. Defeating Apocalymon drained the Chosen Five. They expended most of their powers to seal the force of evil, costing them their majestic armor. Despite losing their powers, they achieved a grand victory and their names became synonymous with legendary, and word of their accomplishment spread throughout the other realms. They became heroes of the Northern Realm.

(Cue Doctor Who - The Dalek)

Enraged by the losses of his men, Burizalor launched a Death Ball to finish the Chosen Five. With his planet-destroying power, he sought to wipe out his opposition and the Northern Realm. Fortunately, the Holy Beasts intervened and banished Burizalor into the Dark Area. The tyrant and his evil regime would remain sealed there for a long period.

(Cue Maaya Sakamoto - Gravity)

At last, peace was restored to the universe and the four realms. Taito and company enjoyed their greatest victory and restored freedom to the North Digiverse.

(Cue Star Wars Episode I - Augie's Great Municipal Band)

A big celebration was thrown for them and the Digital Knights. And while Taito and most of his friends celebrated, Cyrus doubted peace will last and secretly had other ideas for his future.

(Cue LOST - Dharmacide)

During their imprisonment, Burizalor and Mutalior partnered with another evil force that attempted to break through the Wall of Fire. This altered the entire Digiverse and threw time out of synch with Earth. This new evil force produced more evil Digimon to compensate for Burizalor and Mutalior's troop losses. These evil Digimon evolved and formed elites called Nightmare Soldiers.

"Shall I set you free so you can wreak havoc and satisfy your vengeance against those heroes, Lords Burizalor and Mutalior?" The evil anomalous entity proposed to the Corrupts before breaking them loose.

Given a second chance to redeem his failure, Burizalor launched a second campaign. This time he had the full support of every evil Digimon created by this second evil being. His armies were advanced and the Digital Knights were forced to do battle once again. The Northern Digital World faced the clear and present danger of being conquered, or even destroyed, by Burizalor.

During Burizalor's second campaign, Mutalior parted ways with the Buriza Forces. He was never heard from again. However, he knew that his 'son' would carry out their Digiverse conquest.

(Cue God of War 2 - Main Title)

The Digital Knight Council now had one alternative left to counteract the enemy's growing numbers: the five original five Digidestined to resume their duties. At the same time, the Digital Knight Council's lead scientists were in the process of developing artificial warriors derived from Alpha X's remains and planned to manufacture Ascendant warriors to aid Taito and his team.

Brakus volunteered by donating his blood to produce the first of these artificial Ascendants. He named the subject and his soon-to-be artificial son, Kenji. And also created from Alpha X's DNA were two Digieggs: one belonging to an Agumon X and another to a DORUmon. Once hatched, one of these two would be partnered with Kenji. The other would be paired with another subject.

With their Legendary Armors gone, the Digidestined were nowhere near as powerful as they had once been. However, they were prepared to make do with the current strength they have whenever another crisis arises.

This time it would be a war to the finish.

One side must fall.

The entire Northern Digi-Galaxy was at stake and there was no turning back.

Let the Second Great War begin.

Digital World-N/Outside of Digital Knight Council Base/19:45 Hours

(Cue Star Wars Episode 2 - Anakin and Padme)

"Taito!" A young woman shouted from afar.

Standing on top of a desolate cliff, 19-year-old Taito Yagami looked out toward the sunset horizon. His chocolate brown eyes shifted as a pre-adult girl came into view. This girl was approximately Taito's height. Her long red hair was tied into a ponytail. Her eyes were red as cherries and there was a bright smile on her youthful face. Her hourglass figure was hidden under a sleeveless armor halter top with a pair of tight shorts and a pair of white, combat boots.

Taito turned and smiled back at the girl. He walked over toward her and places a hand on her shoulder.

"What's up, Sara?"

Sara smiled as she placed her hand over his. "I was looking all over for you. I was just going to inform you that we have another meeting."

The young man scoffed with annoyance. "Another one? Didn't we just have one just an hour ago?"

"Yeah, but you know how Gennai is. Burizalor's forces have been persistent lately."

"Damn. I don't see why we don't just rush through his army, sneak into his ship, and blast that unforgiving bastard to kingdom come," Taito growled as he tightened his fists. "I mean we beat that great evil! I don't see why Burizalor can't be taken down so easily!"

"First of all, that wouldn't be smart, Taito," Sara sighed as she crossed her arms. "Can't you just use your brain for once?"

Taito pretended to collapse and moaned. "It takes too long to strategize! Not to mention it hurts my head! Besides, we've been taking out their armies rather easily."

"That kind of bothers me."

"Huh? How so?" Taito queried.

Sara sighed as she stared at her feet. I have a bad feeling about what's been happening lately. She kicked a few pebbles away from her feet. Burizalor's soldiers have been getting more and more problematic. It's like they're already one or even two steps ahead of us. If only we didn't use up all of our full power to defeat that great evil. Otherwise, any one of us could have beaten Burizalor on our own. Now, none of us has any hope of matching that monster's power. We're weaker than when we started a long time ago.

Taito expressed concern for his female colleague and couldn't believe she would be worrying. Taito has always been known to be a confident soldier with a positive frame of mind. Even if he acted on impulse and rarely used his head, he was always the first to confront the enemy head-on without any second thought.

"You shouldn't worry, Sara. Their armies can't even touch us. It's Burizalor himself we should worry about, but we'll send that creep packing to the World of Darkness again," he reassured his friend. "We may not be as powerful as we were during our showdown with the great evil but we can work our way up. We will get stronger."

She smiled as her worries started going away. "Yeah. I'm sorry for worrying like you. I've just had these bad vibes recently. Call me crazy but I feel that something catastrophic will occur."

"That's enough out of you. Come on. We have a meeting to attend, right? Let me see that smile, Sara!"

The girl lifted her chin at Taito and brightened his mood with a comforting smile. Taito felt much better every time Sara would put on that bright smile. This reminded him how much he knows that everything would turn out exactly as he wanted.

If anything had happened to Sara, Taito would be in despair.

No, more like devastated.

Taito and Sara have developed a strong bond ever since Gennai recruited them several years ago. It's been a long while since they've returned to their birth home: Tokyo, Japan.

"If there's anything I miss, that would be my parents. They died when I was so young," Taito reflected on his memories on Earth.

"Same here. I miss them, too."

"Wait until this war is over, Sara. One day we'll have normal lives after we defeat the Buriza Forces."

Sara nodded in agreement with everything Taito had said. She knew that she could depend on him and his word. Nothing was going to stop them from accomplishing their duties. Once Burizalor falls in defeat, the team would finally be granted their release to Earth and live normal lives again.

"C'mon, we're late for that meeting," Sara said as she flew off into the distance.

Taito shouted as he flew off after his girlfriend. "Cheater!"

(Cue Caviar - The Good Times Are Over)

The pair glided over the desolate landscape and played a little game of tag using their flight technique. Just like school children, they tagged one another and raced over toward the main headquarters of the Digital Knight Council headquarters.

Walking outside of the building was another 19-year-old male. This young man had spiky blonde hair, glistening blue eyes, and a combat uniform similar to Taito's. He watched as the pair playfully glided across the skies.

"Those two always act like little kids," the blonde young man snorted as he observed them. "They ought to know we have plenty of work to do. I can't believe how carefree they are. Don't they realize Burizalor is sending a squadron on Sector-B29?!"

"Cyrus!" another youthful voice called out.

The blonde answered to his own name mentioned. "What is it? I'm out here!"

"Ah! So glad to know you're still on base!"

A shorter figure came walking out from a doorway and stepped in front of Cyrus. The figure was another youthful male with red, spiked hair and a white, lab outfit. He carried a PDA and a small device equipped with a glass shield.

"Leon? What is it?" Cyrus turned his attention toward the red-haired male.

"Just came to inform you that..."

"I know the meeting will start at 20:00 hours," Cyrus answered as he focused his sights on the skies. "We have only ten minutes left before we meet Gennai at the meeting hall."

"By the way, where are Taito and Sara?"

"They were just playing another game of tag again. Those two will never grow up."

Leon chuckled. "We may be war heroes, but we're still considered kids to the vets."

"Hey, Taito! Sara! We only have ten minutes left! It's time to attend the meeting!" Cyrus exclaimed at the playful couple.

With that, Taito and Sara phased in front of Cyrus as they caught him completely off guard.

"Sorry, we just couldn't resist it!" Taito grinned with delight. "So, ready to get going?"

Cyrus nodded and led the trio through the entranceway.

The meeting was set to begin in ten minutes. Gennai may have news regarding Burizalor's forces attempting to infiltrate the Digital World and possibly the Digital Knight Council.

"So, where are the others?" Sara inquired as she entered the room.

"They're probably at the meeting hall as we speak," Cyrus replied. "All I know is that we might get another assignment."

"Assignment, eh? I'm getting a little bored beating around Burizalor's wimps he calls soldiers," muttered Taito. "Can't we just infiltrate Burizalor's ship?"

"That would be the motive of an incompetent idiot," Leon remarked. "Besides, we would have to fight through his highest-ranked soldiers. And they completely surpass our current strength levels!"

"Yeah. Machinedramon managed to wipe out a group of knights over on Planet Kashia," Cyrus informed the team.

Sara scowled as she slammed her fist on her desk table. "Damn! Isn't Planet Kashia already occupied by Burizalor? I'm sure we can take Machinedramon if we work together."

"Maybe we could," Taito replied. "There's no arguing with that, Cyrus. I'm telling you if we gang up on these guys we can win."

Cyrus couldn't help but agree with Taito - for once. "True. Who knows? Maybe we'll be sent to Planet Kashia."

"We'll know when Gennai tells us," stated Leon.

As soon as the four got to their seats, another girl and a blue-haired adult turned around to face them. The girl was wearing a pink battle suit that covered nearly her entire body. Her hair was of a strawberry blonde variety and loose. The older blue-haired male wore a lab coat and a pair of glasses.

"Hey, guys!" the girl chimed, waving happily to her colleagues.

"Hey, Mimiru!" Leon greeted the cheerful girl.

"Ah, I wonder what Gennai has assigned for us. I hope he'll let us infiltrate Burizalor's ship. I've been waiting to get a shot at that bastard for the longest time," Taito said while yawning.

Rubbing his temples, Cyrus' patience was tested again. "Your arrogance is going to get this team killed one of these days, Taito."

"At least I don't go make a jackass out of myself. Besides, I'm confident we can defeat Burizalor! We'll send that rat packing to the World of Darkness, dark dimension, or wherever he came from!"

"You're not thinking straight, Taito!" The blonde male snapped as he directed his hostility toward Taito. "Have you forgotten that this is the same maniac that can destroy a single planet with a tiny blast from his finger? He's a TYRANT for the love of...!"

"And? We stomped his army once and we'll do it again. Yeah, I'll admit the Holy Beasts bailed us out of that jam. But a victory is a victory. That's all that matters," Taito reassured Cyrus. His mood showed optimism as usual.

Sara simply smiled and nodded in agreement with every word that shot out of Taito's mouth. All Cyrus could do was put his hand in front of Taito's face.

He's not thinking straight. Well, don't come crying to me when you experience death. Cyrus thought carefully.

"So, what have we managed to calculate, Jero?" Leon asked the older guy.

"So far, nothing. We just discovered a minor epidemic in Sector B-12," Jero informed everyone. "But nothing too serious for us geniuses to handle."

"I take it you guys are ready for combat," Leon pointed out.

"Unfortunately, it's during my week off," Mimiru sighed heavily. "I really wanted to know if these new suits would fit. This one's pretty cute. What do you think, Sara?"

"Couldn't you use a little more variety? Your wardrobe is already pink as it is," the redhead rolled her eyes.

"Honestly, I wished you would have agreed with me. Maybe I can let you borrow some of my suits. You might like them."

"We'll see after this assignment, ok?"

Mimiru nodded. "Deal."

"Hey, pipe it down, you guys! He's coming!" Cyrus said to his teammates.

The five were completely silent as Gennai came walking through the entrance door. Gennai did not look like the old man that he would eventually become. He was fairly young and attractive, which added a certain charm to him. His hair was fairly light brown and in the hairstyle of a Padawan - with a tiny patch of hair tied in a small ponytail. He wore a teal-colored robe with a brown belt tied around the waist. His eyes were a refined blue.

Escorting Gennai was a group of guards. Each Digital Knight gave a full salute to Gennai and quickly took their seats. Gennai waved his hand as an orb materialized in his hand. A detailed map of the entire planet was fully displayed with each sector panned out and highlighted.

"I understand why each of you is here. There is another expected invasion by Burizalor's Special Task Units. Intelligence has informed me a trio of Digimon called the Sisters of Fate may be aligned with Burizalor. Taito. Sara. Mimiru. Leon. Cyrus. I'm sure you five will be able to accept this mission. You are to go in and stall these Sisters of Fate while we handle Burizalor's elite."

"Yes, sir!" They called out in unison.

"Jero. I want you to tend to the wounded men in the infirmary."

"You got it."

Gennai directed his attention to the five Digidestined. "Taito Yagami! Cyrus Fujita! Sara Masaki! Leon Shinomori! Mimiru Mitsuo! Good luck and fight at your best, Digidestined!" He hollered as he fled through the exit with his guards.

"You heard the man, ladies! Let's make this happen!" Taito said to his teammates.

"I hate when he calls us ladies," Cyrus muttered with irritation.

I'm a little disappointed we weren't given an infiltration assignment. One of these days it will be Burizalor and I head to head! I guarantee it before I roll over and die. Taito thought as he tightened his fists.

(End theme)

Burizalor's Spaceship/Main Hall/20:04 Hours

A large spaceship calmly settled above the massive Digital World. Looking on ominously through a glass window was a pair of devilish, crimson eyes belonging to the tyrant.

Standing in front of a door was a pair of MetalEtemon guards. Behind the door were the private chambers of the head of the dark campaign: Burizalor himself.

Immediately running across the corridor was Piedmon and joined by a purple-skinned burly humanoid alien garbed in specialized combat armor. He wore two, black horns, which protruded through the sides of his head at a 45-degrees angle, similar to Burizalor's horns.

As Piedmon and the purple alien approached the door, the MetalEtemon guards stopped them in their tracks. Upon recognizing the duo's identifications, the guards pressed a button to open the private door.

"Ah, Mr. Piedmon and Mr. Ginyumon," the tyrant addressed them in a low and highfalutin tone.

"Lord Burizalor. I've come to inform you that our Special Task Forces are preparing for another attack on the Digital Knights Council base," Ginyumon spoke.

Burizalor stared at his viewing screen. "You're already telling me what I already know, Ginyumon. Tell me, Mr. Piedmon. Do you think they will succeed?"

Piedmon replied. "Well, I have been doubting their chances. They have been unable to defeat those insufferable Ascendants. Their power alone has been growing slowly but surely."

"Which means the Task Forces are useless. This is the last time I will ever depend upon them," the tyrant scoffed as he turned and faced the evil jester and the purple alien. "I will be sending Machinedramon down the next time with a group of elite contingent members. Mr. Ginyumon, I assume you have your Nightmare Special Squad ready?"

"Yes, sir!"

"Good."

Piedmon interjected. "Sire, but isn't Machinedramon still conquering lands on Planet Kashia?"

"He can abort his mission. These nuisances are becoming pests. I can't allow their power to grow. I will not let any other power rival mine."

"Sire, nobody can ever rival your strength. Those Legendary Armors were their only hopes of presenting a threat, but they've lost those after they sealed Apocalymon," Piedmon reassured the warlord.

"You flatter me with such words, Mr. Piedmon. Machinedramon's battle power is currently at 18,000. Without their Legendary Armors, the Digidestined's levels have declined to meager levels below 10,000. He will slaughter them with ease. I want him to bring me their heads on a stick."

"Oooh such a gruesome and fitting end for those troublesome Ascendants."

"And Mr. Ginyumon, make sure you and your team are on stand-by on Planet Kashia."

"Yes, sir."

"With a power level of nearly 530,000, who could possibly comprehend or even challenge my power in this Digi-Galaxy? I want Gennai to beg for mercy when I have his young proteges at my grasp," Burizalor grinned, savoring at the thought of mounting the Digidestineds' heads on his walls. The evil one sported a smirk on his face and took a sip of wine from his glass cup. "It will be a matter of time, Mr. Piedmon and Mr. Ginyumon. Every one of those pitiful Digital Knights will die and I shall shatter all hopes of the re-emergence of the legendary Ascendant. No folklore will ever defeat the terror known as Burizalor!"

Next chapter: Destiny

A/N: Hi, if you're reading this, this is indeed the origin story of the whole Digimon Fusion Kai/Ascendancy series and the Bardock Special adaptation. This is a revamped version of the original that I wrote in 2004. Almost 20 years ago, wow. Time flies. I called the old version Taito's Destiny. It's still on my page, but I'm not sure if you want to read something old and outdated if you're already going to read this revamped arc and the next couple of chapters.

However, in 2013 instead of creating a revised version of that story, I also wrote a summarized outline called Taito's Ascension. That's also on still on my fanfic page. So, what I did was combine the first chapter of Taito's Destiny and the whole Taito's Ascension summary, and combined them. So, the first half of this chapter going to be a summarized timeline of crucial events coupled with new scenes (Daikalor's retirement and Gennai showing off his five young recruits). The second half starts Taito and his crew getting ready for their new mission.

This revamped version will mostly adapt the original Bardock Special, but elements of the Dragon Ball Super: Broly film will be added to refreshen the old version that I wrote ages ago. Just the fact I've incorporated Daikalor (the King Cold expy, who makes his debut in this story, has never appeared in my fics until now, and gets killed off), Burizalor's 'Hello monkey' scene and Brakus are those 'Super' additions.

So, Taito and his crew are the 'Original Digidestined' in the Digimon Fusion Kai/Ascendancy universe. This further deviates from what Digimon Adventure tri has shown us. So, no, Daigo and Maki are not part of these Original Digidestined. The Holy Beasts/Sovereigns in this continuity evolved on their own and naturally achieved god status, and were never partnered Digimon. However, Taito and his team are analogs (not blood relations) to Tai and his friends. It should be obvious which Digidestined they're similar to.

Anyway, this is the beginning of this origin tale. Expect more 'Super' elements to be incorporated in this arc. Brakus will have more scenes, and Kenji will be introduced.
