Chapter 9- New Home

Zelda smiles brightly as she and Link ride slowly into Hateno Village. They are riding on Lightning, and Zelda is riding along behind him. Zelda is wearing her old traveling outfit, where she had also left with Impa in Kakariko Village when she had left Link's Champion Tunic with her. At last, after a day and a half of traveling, the two have arrived in Hateno Village.

As the pair ride into the village, Zelda watches as people begin to notice them. It takes a few moments for people to recognize the pair. However, as they do, people begin to cheer and wave and rush towards them. Lightning nickers a little and shifts uncomfortably at suddenly beginning to be surrounded by excited people, but continues onwards.

People surround the two in excitement. The two can hear many people calling out "It's Princess Zelda!" or "The Hero!" Link tries to stay focused on guiding Lightning through the village, as he doesn't like such attention heaped upon him. Zelda, however, much more used to this, happily acknowledges the attention and the villagers, leaning slightly over the side of the horse to extend her hand to the villagers and greet them, indulging the villagers in wanting to meet the long lost princess of Hyrule.

It doesn't take too long for Link to get them through the crowds of villagers, and the two head up the hill behind Hateno Village where the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab. On their way to the village, Zelda had expressed her desire to meet with Purah once they reached the village. Link had agreed, and they decided to go meet Purah before they travelled to Link's house in the village.

After just a few minutes, Link slows Lightning to a stop next to the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab, Link carefully jumps down from the saddle before reaching up and helping Zelda down from Lightning's back, which makes Zelda giggle a little. The two then grip each other's hand tightly before they walk up to the door of the lab.

As Link opens the door to the lab and leads Zelda into the lab, he sees Purah tinkering with something at her work table in the center of the lab. As the couple walk into the lab, Purah hears them and turns to look in their direction. "Linky!" she squeals in delight as she sees Link. Then, she turns her gaze to Zelda, and she gasps a bit before she says, "Princess? Is it you?"

"Purah?" Zelda asks in shock. Link had not told Zelda about what had happened to Purah with the failed experiment and her de-aging. Although she looks and sounds enough like her older self that Zelda can realize it's her, it's a shock to her.

"Princess!" Purah squeals before leaping down from her stool and rushing over to the pair. She is pretty much bouncing up and down in excitement. "Princess! You're back!" she squeals in delight.

"Purah, what happened to you?" Zelda asks in shock.

"Oh, just a little accident, it's no big deal!" Purah brushes off Zelda's concerns before continuing, "Let's talk about what's important! You're back! Are you doing okay? I presume the Calamity is gone?"

Zelda manages to push her shock aside and smiles brightly at Purah, glad to see her old friend again. "It's good to see you again, Purah. Yes, I'm doing well. Link and I defeated and sealed the Calamity away. We are safe at last. I can hardly use my power anymore, but I can accept that. I'm sure I will regain my power over time."

Purah looks interested now. "Hmm. Your power is diminished, huh? I'll have to do some research on that. I'll have to have you come back so we can do some work to see if we can get your power back," Purah says.

Zelda smiles. "Actually, we'll be living here now, so you will see us a lot in the future," she says.

"Yay! You're moving to Hateno!" Purah cheers.

"Yes, I'll be moving into Link's house," Zelda says.

Purah looks thrilled. She had of course been told by Impa of Link and Zelda's secret marriage after all the events of the Great Calamity. She had been a little worried when Link returned and showed he had lost his memories that they wouldn't be getting back together when Zelda was finally freed, but now she knows her fear was unfounded.

"Yay! You're still together! Oh, this is so cute!" Purah squeals in delight. Link blushes slightly while Zelda laughs with Purah.

The visit lasts for about another half hour. Link mostly spends the time taking with Symon and reading some of the books in the lab while Zelda and Purah spend their time catching up and Purah getting Zelda filled in on things she's missed and things that have changed since Zelda's captivity in the castle. They also spend some time discussing the events that have happened since Ganon's defeat.

Finally, after about half an hour, Zelda glances over at Link and sees the look on his face. She can instantly tell that he's anxious to get going to their home so they can finally spend some time together and get settled into their new home together. She smiles to herself. She knows, before their marriage, he would've sat and waited for hours if need be for Zelda to finish and decide on her own to leave. She also finds his excitement to finally show her their new home very cute.

Zelda turns back to Purah. "If you'll excuse me, Purah, Link and I are quite tired from our long journey, and I'd like to see our home. We will come back and see you again soon," she says.

"Of course, Princess! I will see you soon!" Purah exclaims.

Zelda stands up and turns to Link. "Link, shall we go?" she asks.

"Of course," Link says, putting away the book he's reading and standing up to escort her out. He walks over and takes her hand, and the two bid goodbye to Purah before leaving the lab.

Outside, Link helps Zelda up onto Lightning's back, then swings into the saddle himself, and the two set off back for the village.

It doesn't take long before they reach the short bridge in the village leading straight to the house Link had bought. As she finally sets her sights on the house, Zelda asks in awe, "Is that it?"

"Yes, that is it. I know, it's not much, but…" Link begins.

Zelda quickly cuts him off. "Link, it's perfect! I love it!" she exclaims.

"Really?" Link asks. He had honestly thought Zelda might be disappointed in it being so small and plain when she was used to the castle.

"Yes. I love it. It's perfect for us," Zelda says with excitement.

"Thank goodness. I had thought you might be disappointed to live somewhere so small after living in the castle for your whole life," Link says.

Zelda smiles as she says, "Link, I stand by what I said long ago. I don't care where we go or what we do, so long as I am with you. This will be lovely for our home."

Link smiles with relief as he rides across the bridge and then stops outside the house. Link climbs down and then helps Zelda down. And together, they walk through the door of their first home together.

As they enter, Zelda looks around. The home is rather plainly decorated. A bookshelf, a table and a few chairs, and a bed on the second level. And, on the walls, mounts for weapons. She sees MIpha's trident, Daruk's sword, and Urbosa's shield mounted on the wall, along with several bows.

"What do you think?" Link asks.

Zelda smiles. "Well, I think it is lovely. But, I must say, the decoration is so typical of you. But I will be changing a few things if we are going to live here together. I think the decorating needs a feminine touch," she says, smiling all the while.

"I'm so glad you like it," Link responds.

Zelda smiles at him as she wraps her arms around him. "I love it. And not just because it is a good home. But because this is the home where we will begin to build our lives together," she says.

Link smiles back at Zelda, and the two share their first kiss in their home together.

And, I'll end there. I know, a bit shorter, but hopefully still good.

So, the next portion of this story will show Link and Zelda enjoying their lives together. Yes, they will eventually encounter a new enemy, but that will not happen for a long time. We're going to have plenty of time to see Zelda and Link enjoying their lives together.
