Mason went into his brother's office, searching high and low for something he desperately needed. So far, he hadn't had any luck as he looked through the bookcases in the office. That's what he was doing when Tyler came into the room, curiously watching his uncle and wondering what he was looking for.

"What are you doing?" Tyler questioned, crossing his arms as he stood in front of Mason.

He stopped what he was doing and turned to face him, looking nonplused that his nephew had interrupted him. Mason gave a calm smile.

"Nothing, just killing time, waiting for you." He explained easily.

Tyler rose an eyebrow at him, not buying that. His uncle was obviously looking for something, and he didn't hesitate to point that out.

"You looking for something?"

Deciding to answer him truthfully this time, Mason nodded. "Yeah, actually." He said. Honestly, Tyler was probably the best person to ask about this. "You know where I can find any family artifact stuff? Heirlooms?"

"You drained your trust fund already?"

"I did that when I was twenty-two." Mason laughed, "No, I'm just looking for this old piece of my mom's. My dad gave it to her when they were married. It's a sentimental value. Probably passed down to your dad. Could be in the house here somewhere."

"What does it look like?"

"It's a moon stone; about the size of a hockey puck." Mason demonstrated how big with his hands. "Old, ugly, minimal value."

"Hey, man, whatever." Tyler shrugged. "Ask my mom, I guess." Though he acted like he was disinterested, deep down, he wasn't. That moon stone must be really important, but probably not because of what Mason said it was.

Mason gave a nod. "Yeah, cool, I'll do that. You ready?"

"Yeah."

Surprisingly, Jeremy was having a good time at the carnival. He wasn't a big of these school functions especially after the last one he went to.

At the moment, he stood in front of the popcorn line to get some himself. He had just took his bag from the vendor when a voice he hadn't wanted to hear sounded from behind him. Jeremy let out an irritated noise from his nose at the voice of Damon Salvatore.

"Jeremy, it's so good to see you alive." The vampire said sarcastically, clapping him on the shoulder.

Jeremy jerked back at his touch as he turned around to face Damon, scoffing at him. "Aren't you a little old for a high school carnival?" Though honestly, the older Salvatore was probably just here to annoy him and to run into Charlene, who had been avoiding him since he killed Jeremy, which said boy couldn't blame her for.

"A hundred and fifty years old." Damon took some of Jeremy's popcorn and popped some into his mouth.

"You're pretty funny cracking jokes when I could I don't know…blow the whole lid off this thing by telling someone what you are." This was the wrong thing to say as Damon's face darkened and he roughly grabbed Jeremy's shoulder, jerking him away from the crowd before using the arm that took hold of the younger boy's shoulder to wrap around his shoulders, making the grip tight.

"Please tell me that is not a treat." Damon hissed.

"Maybe it is." Jeremy said smugly, holding out the ring that saved his life.

As soon as his did that, Damon choked him from behind with an arm under his chin and Jeremy made a noise in response. "This is what we're not going to do." He started slowly, but definitely slightly threatening. "We're not gonna walk around like we're invincible when it's this easy for me to end you."

"Which you won't do…" Jeremy managed to say. "Unless you want to make Charlie even more mad at you than she already is…" He knew he got Damon at those words as the vampire released him automatically. Jeremy forced himself not to smirk, adding his sister to the list as another weakness of Damon Salvatore, which was an obvious choice.

Damon gritted his teeth at him, but made no comment about Charlene getting mentioned. He knew he messed up. However, the last thing he wanted was to be reminded of the fact especially by an annoying child.

"If you want to tell people what I really am go ahead and try." Damon told him. He lifted up Jeremy's ring, which he stole from his hand. "I might not be able to end you, but I will shove this ring so far up your ass, you'll really have something to choke on." With those words, he flicked the ring in Jeremy's face and left him there, holding onto his face where the jewelry hit him.

In retrospect, probably not a good idea to provoke a vampire as Jeremy looked down and picked up the ring, sliding it back on his finger.

Back at the hospital, Caroline stood in her room, fully dressed as she fixed her hair and talked into the phone against her ear. "The doctor said I'm good as new." The blonde said happily, leaving a message since her boyfriend didn't pick up. "He signed me out. He said I didn't have to wait until the morning, so call me when you get this." She hung up the phone before facing the nurse, who was sitting on her bed with the dazed look still on her face. Her hand was pressed against the wound Caroline gave her after biting into her skin. It was now bandaged up, covering it up.

"It's dark, thank god." Caroline rolled her eyes. She wasn't meant to be stuck inside, doing absolutely nothing. With an outgoing personality like her, it was crucial for her to remain active. Today especially, her entire body was running on adrenaline. Her eyes went to the bandage on the nurse's neck and couldn't help but feel bad. "I'm so sorry about that." She eyed it a little bit more just to make sure it covered the whole thing and once she was sure it was, she nodded as she met the nurse's eyes. "Okay, now what's the story?"

"My husband likes to get kinky."

Caroline grinned, feeling very proud of herself for coming up with that one. "Yes, good." She praised. She said nothing for a moment. "Okay, so I'm gonna take off. I'm the committee chair for the carnival and I'm worried it's a complete disaster. I mean, god bless Elena and the other girls, but they do not understand the word fabulous." She grabbed her bag, hooking the strap over her shoulder. "Once again, I'm so sorry about that and if you could just forget I bit you that would be great because I'm going to…"

Snapping out of her trance, the nurse blinked. "What?"

"I don't know how that works, but it's brilliant." Caroline grinned one last time before leaving the nurse.

Charlene separated from Megan and the rest of friends, wanting to check out the rest of the carnival by herself. She ate food and did a couple of the activities there before the ruckus of the arm wrestling competition caught her attention.

Watching boys try to one up each other was pretty fun, and hilarious to boot. Smiling to herself, Charlene went to join the crowd that was watching. At first, she didn't notice a certain person there as her attention was on the arm wrestling. At the moment, Tyler was wrestling someone, and it looked like he was winning.

Charlene watched for a little while longer until her silent gazing was interrupted by a certain voice she wasn't interested in hearing and one she had been avoiding.

"I didn't beg you for the arm wrestling type, Charlene."

The blonde rolled her eyes. "Hi Damon." She greeted dryly.

"You've been avoiding me." He commented after a moment of silence.

"Really? And here I was trying not to make it obvious." Charlene said sarcastically. "If you're here to try and get me to forgive you, it's not going to work."

Damon scoffed a bit. "Get over yourself, I'm not here for you." It wasn't a lie, but it wasn't the truth either. "I'm here for something more important."

"And what's that?"

He gestured to Tyler and Mason. "Trying to figure out what the big family secret is."

Charlene's eyebrows furrowed together. "What do you mean?"

Before he could answer her, Stefan appeared and headed over to them. Charlene allowed herself to smile at him in greeting, almost breathing a sigh of relief, glad she didn't have to be alone with Damon anymore.

"You're lurking." Stefan commented, crossing his arms as he stood in the middle of her and Damon, which Charlene was grateful for.

"I'm observing."

"More like obsessing."

Honestly, Charlene rather Damon be obsessing over this than over Abigail. Maybe with this distraction, he won't go even more in the deep end…

Oh, what did she care. Charlene scolded herself. But she did, she admitted. No matter how mad she was at Damon, the last thing she wanted was for him to go over the edge because it was never a good thing when he did. Charlene snapped out of her thoughts as the crowd started cheering.

Tyler had won.

"Go Ty!" Charlene couldn't help but cheer out loud for her ex-boyfriend, which got the side eye from Damon. However, she ignored it as Tyler heard her and grinned in her direction. She missed the scowl on Damon's as it was gone by the time she had looked back over at them.

"He's got strength." Damon admitted.

"He's a triple letter varsity athlete, of course he has strength. You're reaching

Charlene wasn't really sure what they were talking about, but as she thought about it…it made sense. Damon was trying to figure out the reason why Major Lockwood had been brought in with the tomb vampires. Honestly, the whole thing intrigued Charlene too. It was a really weird situation.

"I bet I can take you."

"Enter the uncle." Damon said.

Sure enough, Mason Lockwood appeared and went up to Tyler.

Charlene watched as he did. This was the first time she had seen Mason in a long time, and he was still just as attractive. Charlene remembered the huge crush she had on him when she was younger and definitely before she dated Tyler. It would kind of weird to be crushing on your boyfriend's uncle.

The crush was basically non-existent now, but didn't mean he still wasn't nice to look at.

Stefan shook his head at his brother's antics. "Ridiculous…"

Charlene decided to voice her early thought. "Honestly though, wouldn't you rather him obsess over this rather than Abigail?" She didn't hide the bitterness in her voice at her mentioning her doubleganger.

"Well, no. Anything that Damon gets obsessed over never turns out well for anyone."

"Fair point." Charlene agreed.

Damon rolled his eyes at their conversation but didn't say anything. Not that he had time to as Mason managed to beat Tyler, earning thunderous applause from the crowd around them.

Tyler shook his stiff hand with a chuckle. "Okay, he's the champ, who wants to go next?"

No one said anything as Charlene looked around at the crowd. There was no females at all, and an idea popped up in her head. Probably a bad one but…her hand was up before she thought about it all the way.

"I'll take a crack at it." Charlene said out loud, getting everyone's attention. She ignored her eyes on her as she headed over to Mason and Tyler.

"Char…" Stefan started off, but Damon stopped him from finishing his sentence.

"Let her do this."

Charlene forced herself not to thank Damon for that one, but she didn't, knowing he was only saying that to find out if there was really something supernatural about the Lockwood family.

After getting over to them, a confused look crossed Mason's face for a moment before realization passed over him. "Charlene Gilbert?"

"The one and only." Charlene said with a grin. "It's been a long time, Mase."

"It has. You look good."

Charlene couldn't help the warm feeling coming over her at the compliment. "Thanks." She shrugged it off, getting into the arm wrestling position. "Well, I'm ready if you are." She gave Mason a confident smirk.

"You sure about this?"

"I wouldn't be here if I weren't. I'm stronger than I look, trust me. Unless your scared of getting beat by a girl." Charlene bated, saying the last statement loudly so she was heard. It worked as her words earned oohs from the audience.

It made Mason grin, though, as he copied Charlene. Their hands connected and their eyes met.

"Nah, just don't get hurt feelings when I beat you." Mason said confidently.

"Guess we'll see about that." Charlene smirked as Tyler started counting down.

"1…2…3…"

As soon he finished, they started arm-wrestling and Charlene was surprised by the sheer strength Mason processed, making her think that Damon's obsession with this was legit. He was definitely strong, but not in the vampire kind of way, but something else entirely. In the end though, Mason beat her, and the crowd cheered.

Charlene tried to release her hand out of Mason's grip, but he held on. She looked up at him in surprise.

"Good job, you definitely held your own there." He complimented her. "Hopefully, I'll see you around?"

She said nothing for a moment before a smile slowly came across her lips. "Maybe. If your lucky." She gave him one last smile before heading back over to Stefan and Damon, ignoring the look of jealousy in his eyes. She knew really well both of them overheard her and Mason's conversation. "Well…" She said, staring back over at Mason who was batting someone else now. "You were right about one thing, Damon. There's something definitely up with Mason. He's strong but not vampire strong. He must be something else." That was all she said on the subject as she changed it. "Well, I'm gonna go find Megan, Elena, and Bonnie. See you later."

With that, she left them there but not before looking back over at Mason, wondering who or what he could be.

Once Charlene was gone, Damon dragged Stefan away from the crowd to talk privately. "What is up with that family? If they're not vampires, what the hell are they?"

"Ooh, ah, maybe they're, um, ninja turtles!" Stefan said jokingly, not taking this at all serious like his older brother wanted to him to be.

"You're not funny." Damon said dryly.

"Or, no zombies, werewolves." If only, he had knew how right he was.

Damon rolled his eyes, this time. "No comedic timing whatsoever." He turned his head, and someone caught his eye. Carter to be more specific, who was repairing something else.

Stefan noticed the look in his brother's face. "What? What are you up to?" he asked wearily, not knowing if he really wanted Damon to answer or not.

"This is reality and there's no such things as werewolves or…combat turtles." He rolled his eyes again.

"I said ninja turtles, actually." Stefan pointed out.

Ignoring his brother, Damon started towards Carter. "Hey you!"

"I have a name, you know?" The other male said in an irritated sort of way.

"Yeah, I don't care." Before Carter could move away, Damon grabbed a hold of his shoulders and compelled him, "I need you to pick a fight with someone, a kid named Tyler Lockwood."

Stefan nearly groaned. "Damon, don't do this." He pleaded, even though he knew it wouldn't work.

Damon brushed him off with his hand. "It's just an experiment." He kept eye-contact with Carter as he went on with his compulsion, "Get him mad, don't back down no matter what he does, got it?"

"I won't back down."

"I know you won't." Damon said, looking satisfied with himself. He released the boy and patted him on the back as Carter left.

"Do you realize someone is going to get hurt, right?" Stefan regretted asking that as he already knew the answer for that one.

"No, someone is going to get mad, as in rage." Damon told him.

Stefan rose an eyebrow. "What is that going to accomplish?"

"That Tyler kid is incapable of walking away from a fight. Let's see who intervenes; maybe it's the ambiguous, supernatural mystery uncle." Damon smirked, Stefan shaking his head.

This wasn't going to end well…

Not too long after this, Damon walked down the hallway inside of the school, actually minding his own business this time. It wasn't too long until he sensed someone in the room with him. Damon turned around and spotted Caroline Forbes down at the end of the hallway.

"Hey Blondie." He greeted, not bothered at all by her presence. "They let you out?"

"I remember." Caroline said bluntly.

Damon looked at her, unable to help the amused tone in his voice as he humored her. "What do you remember?"

"I remember how you used me, you pushed me around, abused me, erased my memories, fed on me." Caroline got closer to Damon with every word coming out of her mouth.

"You're crazy." Damon started to leave, but stopped at the sound of Caroline's voice again.

"Memories have been coming back in pieces." She stopped walking and crossed her arms, not smiling at all.

Damon shook his head slightly. "You can't remember. It's impossible, I mean, unless you're becoming a…" he trailed off as realization hit him right then and there. That's exactly what happened… but how?!

For the first time since showing up, Caroline smiled but it wasn't a kind one. "I have a message from Demetria, she said, game on." She turned on her heel to leave and Damon tried to stop her.

"Wait…"

Immediately, Caroline whirled around and shoved him to the ground, using her newfound strength. Damon managed to sit up as he looked at her in disbelief.

"You suck." Caroline spit out, having the last word as she finally turned and left the hallway.

Megan was with Elena and Charlene, who had joined them not too long ago.

"What? You almost beat Mason Lockwood in arm-wrestling?" Megan said to her best friend as the blonde told her and Elena what had happened while she was gone.

"I did. He still beat me, but it was still pretty cool." Charlene shrugged. "I hate to admit that Damon's right but he's definitely right that there's something supernatural going on with Mason. We're just not sure what."

"You saw Damon? I thought you were trying to avoid him." Elena commented as she folded some t-shirts.

Charlene rolled her eyes. "I am, but it's harder than it sounds. Especially when he's everywhere."

"Well yeah, he's trying to get you to forgive him for what happened with Abigail and Jeremy." Megan pointed out.

"The only way that is happening is when hell freezes over." Charlene said in a 'so there' sort of way.

Megan didn't say it out loud, but eventually Charlene would forgive Damon. If it were the other way around, she wouldn't hesitate to forgive Stefan. No matter what he did. However, Charlene wasn't Megan, and to say that her best friend was more stubborn than she would be an understatement. Megan wondered though how long it would until Charlene forgave Damon.

Speaking of said man.

"Charlene." Damon said urgently as he came up to the three friends.

Elena glared at him, stepping forward, blocking Charlene from his sight. "What do you want, Damon?"

Damon ignored her question as Charlene looked over Elena's shoulder at him. "I know you don't want to see me more than you need to, but I need you to come with me. Elena and Megan can come too. They need to hear this too."

"Whatever it is, Damon, we're not interested." Megan spoke up. "Charlene isn't the only one who doesn't want to be in your presence."

"Yeah, yeah, I need you guys to come with me now." Damon put emphasis on how important this was.

Megan shared looks with both Elena and Charlene. Whatever it was, it sounded urgent.

"Fine." They all grumbled in unison as they followed Damon into a classroom.

Stefan was there, and Megan quickly went over to her boyfriend before Damon explained why he brought all of them hear.

When he finished, Megan didn't have to look at everyone to know they were shocked.

Caroline, their friend, was a vampire.

"How did this happen?" Stefan questioned in disbelief.

Damon rolled his eyes at the stupid question, even Megan could admit that wasn't the best question to ask. "Well, I fed her blood, and Demetria obviously killed her and A plus B equals… but she probably didn't do it on her own. Katherine obviously helped, or told her to do it."

"But why Caroline of all people?" Megan asked concerned, knowing everyone was thinking it.

"Because Katherine and Demetria are manipulative, nasty little sluts."

"Nice." Charlene said sarcastically. "Like that is helpful for this situation."

Megan stifled a laugh.

"And she said, 'game on.'" Stefan pointed out. "What does that even mean?"

"It means they're playing dirty. They want us to know."

Megan sighed. "I don't get it though, why Caroline?" she asked again as her question wasn't answered. "Of all the people to choice from, why her?"

"I don't know."

"Maybe it could have been one of those things where they just picked someone random." Charlene suggested.

Megan frowned. "Maybe…" Somehow, she doubted that. Her doubleganger and Katherine didn't seem like the type to not have everything planned out.

"Caroline must be completely out of her mind." Stefan frowned, concerned. "She doesn't even know what's happening to her."

"Yeah, I know the feeling." Charlene mumbled.

Megan smiled sympathetically, putting a hand on her best friend's shoulder. Even though Charlene wasn't upset about being a vampire anymore, she would definitely know what Caroline was going through.

"Oh, I think she does." Damon said in response. "All my compulsion from the past started wearing off the minute she was in transition."

"We have to find her."

"Yep, and kill her."

This caused an uproar immediately especially Charlene.

"There's no way in hell your going to kill Caroline, Damon." Charlene growled, straightening up in front of him. "That is not an option. She didn't ask for this and she sure as hell didn't ask for you to kill her.

Damon looked at her. "It's the only solution, Charlie." He ignored the hiss Charlene gave at the nickname. "She knows who we are. She's officially a liability, and we've got to get rid of her."

"Damon, absolutely not." Stefan said sternly.

"There has to be another way." Megan added, desperately. She didn't want Caroline to die. It was the reason why it was agreed that Damon would fed the blonde his blood.

"There has to be." Elena agreed.

"Need I remind you of a tragic little story of a girl named Vicki Donavan?" Damon said, beginning to get frustrated with the group. Charlene flinched at the mention and Megan squeezed her shoulder. "Caroline, of all people, will not make it as a vampire. Her mother is a vampire hunter. Guys, come on, we all know how this story is going to end, just flip to the last change and…"

Charlene cut him off, "Again, killing her isn't an option."

"No? Your silence is deafening, Stefan." Damon commented.

Sure enough, he wasn't saying a word and Megan looked over at him, unable to stop herself from looking at him with wide eyed. Did he really think that was the only way too?

"Wait, wasn't there a school carnival the night Charlene killed Vicki?"

"It was a Halloween party." Charlene muttered, her eyes gazing over as she remembered what happened that night. It was something she would never forget.

Megan heard her best friend sniffle from beside her. She knew Charlene was tearing up as she reminisced about one of the worst things she had ever done as a vampire. Megan glared at Damon for making her best friend remember that, but she saw his eyes flash with regret when he noticed Charlene wiped the tears from her. However, it was gone as soon as it came as he went back to the situation at hand.

"I never had a town where history repeats itself." Damon said, "You know I'm right."

Stefan said nothing for a moment. "We're not gonna kill her." He left and Charlene followed him, not wanting to be in the same room as Damon anyway.

Megan was about to leave with Elena when Damon stopped them, and she looked at him.

"It's the only way." He told them.

"That's the thing, it isn't." Megan told him softly. "There's always another way but it's the only one you can think of. Come on, Elena."

"She's obviously pissed at me for something, but for what, no clue." Matt said, concerned as he stood with Bonnie. First, the thing at the hospital, and now the thing that bottle game. He was worried about his girlfriend as there was just something off about her.

Bonnie frowned. "What happened?"

"She freaked out and she's been like that all day." Matt explained, frowning now. "Cool one minute and crazy and neurotic the next."

His concern was sweet, but there had to be a reason why Caroline was acting that way, besides the obvious.

"She almost died; it's bound to mess with her head." Bonnie said, trying to reassure Matt. "Plus, she's Caroline."

"Yeah, I'm used to the insecurities and all that. It's who she is, love it or hate it, but this seemed…I don't know…different…more… I can't explain it."

If something was really wrong, Bonnie decided to go and see what was up with one of her best friends.

Megan walked along with Stefan, both of them searching for Caroline. Elena and Charlene was elsewhere doing the same thing. Hopefully, they found her before something bad happened, or worse Damon finding her before they did. As they walked, Megan thought about what Stefan's brother said. Did Stefan really agree with Damon? Did they really have to kill her?

Was there really no other option?

Megan didn't want to think that way, but she decided to ask her boyfriend herself. "Stef, do you think Damon's right?" she asked quietly. "Is killing her really the only option?" He seemed to be ignoring her, but she pressed on. "Stefan?"

In a fit of frustration, Stefan punched the wall of a nearby trailer, making Megan jump.

Automatically, she touched his shoulder, rubbing it. "Stefan, hey. Don't worry, everything going to be okay. We'll find her."

Stefan gave a weak smile, obviously wanting to believe her. "Damon's right." Megan opened her mouth to say something, but he continued before she could, "Not about what we should do but about what's going to happen. Demetria already signed Caroline's death sentence."

"Don't say that." Megan shook her head. "We're not going to let Caroline's story end that way. She isn't going to be another Vicki, okay? Especially if she has you helping her. Look at Charlene, if it weren't for you, she'd be…" She didn't finish that sentence, not even wanting to think about it.

"I won't be able to help her if we can't find her."

"We will find her."

Megan was confident about that, but she didn't know if they would find her before Damon did. There was silence between them as thoughts of Demetria entered her mind.

"She's doing this to me, isn't she?" Megan asked quietly.

Stefan sighed, putting an arm around her shoulder, and she snuggled into his side. "No. She's doing this to me."

Megan said nothing, closing her eyes. So much for a normal day. It honestly couldn't get any worse, but she was completely and utterly wrong.

They went back to search for Caroline and suddenly, Stefan stopped and took a deep breath, taking in something as an intense look crossed his face.

"What is it?" Megan questioned, concerned. "What are you smelling?"

"Blood." Stefan answered and her eyes went wide. "I can smell blood."

Oh no…

At the same time, Charlene could smell the blood too and she fought back the urge for her face to change in front of Elena.

"I found her!" Charlene told her sister. "You stay here!" She didn't give her sister time to protest as she rushed off in the direction of the blood.

She got there in time to see Damon hugging Caroline as she cried. It would have been a sweet scene if it weren't for the fact he was about to stake her.

"Damon, don't!" Charlene was about to run forward to stop, but Stefan got to him first with Megan right with him.

The stake fell to the ground and Damon glared at him heatedly. "Stefan!" he shouted, annoyed at him for stopping him from staking Caroline.

Charlene breathed a sigh of relief while Megan tried to grab Caroline to comfort her.

The blonde jerked away, crying out with tears streaming down her face. "No! Stay away from me!" she shrieked. "You killed me!"

"Care, calm down, I didn't kill you! I would never do that to you, you know that! That was Demetria!" Megan tried again.

The blonde shook her head frantically. "No! Then why did she look like you?! And why did she do this to me?!"

"I don't know, Care." Megan said quietly. She turned to Stefan. "We need to get her out of here before someone sees." This time when she reached out for Caroline, the blonde let her as her body crumbled into Megan's comforting grip.

"It's alright, Caroline, come with us." Stefan tried to reassure the crying blonde as he and Megan started to lead her away from the scene.

"She will die, it's only a matter of time." Damon said ominously.

Stefan looked at him stiffly. "Yeah, maybe so, but it's not going to happen tonight."

"Oh yeah, it is."

Damon quickly grabbed the fallen stake and began to charge at Caroline. However, Charlene was quicker and jumped in front of Caroline. Luckily, Damon realized who was there just in time and stopped, the stake barely touching Charlene's chest.

Megan gasped from behind her. Charlene ignored it as she stared at Damon, and he stared right back. She managed to speak after a moment, her eyes still locked on his.

"She's my friend, Damon." Charlene said sternly. "You are not going to kill tonight, or any time soon, got it?" She wasn't going to budge on this one and Damon knew it.

He dropped his hand, and Charlene let herself relax. "Whatever happens, it's on you."

"Fine." Charlene agreed coldly. Damon gave her one last look before finally taking off. Once he was gone, she turned around and faced Stefan, Megan, and Caroline. "Go get Caroline out of here, I'll deal with this."

Before they could do that, Bonnie appeared on the scene and gasped. "Caroline?"

"It's okay, come on." Stefan soothed, trying to get Caroline away from here.

"Bonnie…" Megan said quietly. "Please don't freak out."

It was already too late for that as Bonnie saw the blood on Caroline's face. "No, you're not." She shook her head in denial. "You can't be." She went over to the blonde and touched her and there was no use denying the truth anymore as she looked at Caroline, horrified.

Caroline flinched at the way Bonnie was looking at her. If she didn't feel like a monster before, she did now.

"Bonnie?" Caroline choked out.

Then Bonnie spotted Carter's body. "Oh, god!"

"Bonnie…"

Megan tugged on Stefan's arm, still holding onto Caroline with one of her arms. "Let's get out of here." She said, looking at her friend's heartbroken face.

Stefan didn't have to be told a second time as they took Caroline away, leaving Charlene alone with a horrified Bonnie.

"I can't believe this is happening." The witch said, still horrified by what she learned.

"I know, but it's still Caroline. She just made a mistake." Charlene said quietly, sticking up for the blonde.

"A mistake?" Bonnie snapped sharply. "This is more than a mistake, Charlene! She killed someone!"

Charlene didn't say anything as Damon came back with a shovel. She shot Damon a dirty look. Hadn't he done enough?

"Come on, don't pout about it." Damon commented, shrugging it off. "I got a body to bury." He looked at Charlene, who was staring at him with a glare. "I thought you were calling the shots." She just ignored him, looking away from him. "Sucks to be you, buddy." He said to Carter's body.

What happened next was something Charlene should have known would happen.

Bonnie gave Damon a brain aneurysm and he crumbled to the ground, crying out and holding his head as he curled up in pain.

"Bonnie!" Charlene exclaimed as she used her powers to open a nearby faucet and water sprouted out from a hose. "What are you doing?!"

The witch was paying no idea to her. "I told you would happen if anyone got hurt."

"I didn't do this!" Damon cried out.

"He's right, Bon!" Charlene tried to tell her. "This wasn't his fault. If you would just let me explain…" She was cut off by Bonnie.

"Everything that happens is his fault, Charlie, but your too blind to see it because of your feelings for him!" Bonnie yelled angrily, glaring at her.

"I…" Charlene was lost for words.

Bonnie turned back to Damon, returning her concentration on him. "I'm not going to let him hurt anyone else…" she said darkly.

Charlene looked horrified at those words, unable to help it. "What are you about to do Bonnie?" Her friend didn't answer as she started a fire with her mind, and it headed in Damon's direction. "Bonnie, no!" The fire finally got to him, and he started to burn as he tried to get away from the heat. "You're going to kill him!"

She knew that was the point, but she couldn't let that happen. Despite being mad at, the last thing she wanted was for Damon to die. Charlene had to stop her!

She charged forward and grabbed Bonnie's shoulders, shaking her. "Stop it!" The shaking of her shoulders broke her concentration and the fire ceased.

"Why did you stop me?!" Bonnie demanded, angry even as tears streamed down her face. "He deserves this!"

"I know that more than anymore, but this can't be you, Bonnie. It can't be you." Charlene pleaded with her. "Just go home and let me deal with him, please."

Staring at her with tear-filled eyes for a moment, Bonnie shoved her away and rushed off. Charlene sighed in relief before slowly turning around to face Damon.

Then she moved towards him and deciding to be kind, she helped him up to his feet. But when she started to leave, Damon grabbed onto her hands.

"Charlie…"

Charlene didn't take away her hands away at least until he said her name, knowing what he was going to say. "Don't thank me. I didn't do it for you." She informed him. "I did it for Bonnie. If she succeeded in killing you, she wouldn't have forgiven herself for it once she realized what she did. And just because I stopped her, doesn't mean I forgive you for what you did to Jeremy…and for sleeping with Abigail. So, stop thinking that you're gonna get me to forgive you, because it's not going to happen. Not for a very long time." He said nothing and her face softened, but only slightly. "Bye Damon." She walked away from him, ignoring the fact he was watching her leave.

After helping Stefan take Caroline to the bathroom, Megan went back inside the school to go to her locker.

She sighed.

The day had started off so good, and then, this had to happen. Sometimes, Megan hated this life they had. Things were so good before all this supernatural stuff happened. It was so less complicated, but this was their life now, and it was no use trying to pretend that it wasn't.

Though she hated it sometimes, there was one thing she didn't regret and that was Stefan.

Megan heard footsteps and she looked up to find Stefan heading her way. Immediately, she asked about Caroline.

"She's okay for now." Stefan told her softly. "I'm gonna check on her later."

Megan nodded. "And what about the guy she…" She didn't have to say it for him to know what she was talking about.

"It's taken care of."

"Good." She said quietly as she turned back to her locker, deep in thought. "I hate to say it…but Damon's right, isn't he? It might have worked out for Charlene…but it won't end well for her, will it?" Megan didn't want Damon to be right. Caroline would make it. She had to.

"No." Stefan stated sternly. "I'm gonna make sure that he's wrong."

"I hope so." Megan said softly. Then she sighed sadly. "Of course, this day had to end like this."

It was Stefan's turn to sigh as he leaned into the lockers, staring at her. "Not the normal day you wanted, huh?"

"That's an understatement. As I was thinking just a few minutes ago, no matter how hard we try we will never have a normal day and I was stupid to think that it would happen. There's no use in trying, is there?" Megan was starting to get emotion and she knew it too. She always tried to remain positive, but that was getting a lot harder lately. "Besides, my life was never normal, was it? I'm a witch, my best friend…and sister is a vampire, my sister's sister is my cousin, and we each have a doubleganger that is annoyingly trying to destroy our lives…"

"I'm sorry…" Stefan looked down at his feet, but Megan titled his head back up.

"I don't blame you for this, Stefan." She said, smiling weakly. "It is what is, and I might as well get used to it." She sighed as she rubbed her tried eyes. Not only was this day crazy, but it was also mentally exhausting.

She pulled her hands away and felt Stefan touch her face with his warm hand. Megan leaned into his hand, staring into her boyfriend's concerned eyes.

"I'm going to be okay, really. I'm just tired. I'm…I'm gonna try and get some sleep…I'll talk to you tomorrow. I love you."

He kissed her forehead. "I love you too…" he whispered against her skin.

Megan closed her eyes briefly before giving him a tried smile as she left to go home. As soon as she got there, she climbed into bed with even bothering to change out of her clothes.

Once her head hit the softness of her pillow, Megan passed out immediately and slept soundly, not even waking up until she felt a kiss on her forehead. Her eyes fluttered open to find Stefan smiling down at her.

"S-Stefan…" Megan said his name through a yawn as she blinked at him in confusion. "What are you doing here?"

"Just come with me."

Even though she was confused, Megan listened and climbed out of bed, allowing her boyfriend to guide her outside to his car.

Before she knew it, they were back at the carnival, and Megan looked around worriedly. "What are we doing here? We're going to get caught."

"Well, I compelled the guard to go on break." She looked at him, wondering why he did, and Stefan smiled at her as he brushed the hair out of her face. "So, I could kiss my girlfriend on top of the ferris wheel."

Megan put a hand on her fluttering chest and her face warmed along with a bright smile accompanying it. "Oh Stefan…" she whispered as the lights of ferris wheel came on, brightening up the night.

He simply smiled as his thumb brushed against her jawline. "We have to take these moments, Meg. What Demetria did to Caroline could just be the beginning and there are things with Tyler's family that we don't even understand yet, and there's always the 'v' word, but I came back to this town to start a life with you. We can't forget to live it."

Stefan was right.

'Of course, he was.' Megan thought lovingly. They couldn't let the stuff that happened in their lives stop them from living. Life was too short not to, and she didn't realize how much she needed that reminder until today.

"You're totally right." Megan told him, grinning. Stefan smiled back, happy to see her happy. "So…if this whole kissing thing on the ferris wheel is going to happen, how are we gonna get up there?" She had an idea, and her grin could only widen at the thought.

Stefan smirked, releasing her face, and putting his arms around her waist. "It's probably a good idea to hold on tight."

Megan grinned again as he jumped, using his speed to get them on top of the ferris wheel. She laughed happily in response before snuggling her head on Stefan's shoulder. He chuckled and she felt the vibration of it.

"What?" she asked as she looked up at him, smiling.

"I just love hearing you laugh."

Megan's eyes softened at him lovingly and she leaned in towards him, their lips meeting in a soft kiss. She said nothing, not wanting to break this moment.

All the stuff that needed to be dealt with could be taken care of tomorrow. For now, Megan just wanted to live in this moment as long as she could.

Bad Moon Rising, Part 1

Another chapter finished and posted. I've been working on this chapter all day and I'm pretty satisfied with it so I hope you enjoy it!

It's been strange rewriting last two chapters especially because I lost the original document for Surviving in the World of Vampires and I'm having to write the scenes from the show from scratch, but it's probably better that way. But it was still sad that the original document is long gone. Anyway, please leave reviews and let me know what you thought!
