Stefan woke up with a sharp gasp, startled by the dream he had. It was about the Founder's Day party back in 1864. He hadn't thought about that time in a long time, so it was strange it popped into his head.
What was even strange though was Charlene and Damon were in it… He shook his head with a frown.
Feeling someone move against her chest, Stefan looked down, seeing Megan in his arms. She seemed to be waking up. Probably from him gasping the way he did.
"Mm…are you okay?" Megan murmured into his chest.
"Yeah…" He answered, rubbing her back before tightening his arms around her. "Just a bad dream."
Megan sighed in contentment as she snuggled closer to him. Stefan closed his eyes, intent on going back to sleep, but then he realized something.
Megan had stayed the night at Charlene and Elena's house.
That realization hit him like a ton of bricks, and Stefan's eyes flew open and used his vampire speed to get quickly off the bed. He glared as Demetria, not Megan, sat up in the bed with a smirk while she moved into an almost seductive position.
"Man, you made that too easy." Demi giggled.
"Demetria." Stefan glowered at her.
She winked. "Guilty! Being Megan is so much easier than I thought it would be." Then she smirked. "And again, getting into your head was too easy."
"It really was. Have you completely forsaken your nature?"
Stefan turned around at the other familiar voice. Katherine was here too, standing by his desk as her hip leaned against the wood with her arms crossed and a smirk on her face.
"Oh, you know it's that animal blood, Kitty Kat." Abigail said, walking into the room. "You need more than that to stop vampires from getting in your head."
Stefan didn't expect all three of them to be here. As much as he wanted to attack them, he knew there wouldn't be a point. It was three against one, not very good odds.
Seeing he wasn't attacking them, Demi stood up from the bed, making her way over to Stefan. "Good call on not attacking us." She said as she clapped her hands, grinning. "Because you know we could rip you apart and do our nails at the same time."
Stefan ignored that as he regarded the three sisters wearily. "What do you want?"
"Well, I know I came here to see you." Demi answered with a purr, now standing in front of him, her hand caressing his chest even as he tried to jerk away from her. "I've missed you so much, Stef." She pouted. "No alterative motive whatsoever."
He didn't believe her at all, and it showed on his face. "Why are you back in town?"
"The answer is going to remain the same, Stefan. I'm here for you."
"You see, I can't quite get that down. Just kind of…gets stuck in my throat."
Demi couldn't help but laugh at that. "Funny, Stefan." She looked at him, amused. "Trust me…deep down inside that smokin' hot body of yours…" Eying him hungrily, she said as she ran her hand down his chest again, "you know that I'm telling you the truth."
Stefan just shook his head, trying to come up with a way to get them to tell him why they were really here. He might need to get a little dirty.
"I can't believe he said that to you!" Megan fumed as they entered the Grill together.
Charlene adjusted the Petrova book in her arms, sighing at her friend's words. She had told Megan about what Damon said a couple nights ago when they got back from Duke. It had hurt at first being compared to Abigail, but thinking about it now, she probably deserved it after what she did to Damon that day. She shouldn't have manipulated him like that. It wasn't the nicest thing to do even if it did work and she got what she wanted, but the last thing she wanted was to be like Abigail.
"He has no idea what's he's talking about, Charlie." Megan went on. If she was a cartoon, she would have smoke coming out of her ears with how mad she was. "You're nothing like that bitch. You might look like her, but you aren't her. If Damon doesn't see that, then he's an idiot."
Charlene had slight smile on her face. "Thanks Meg." She loved that she had a best friend who was there for her, no matter what.
"Of course! He's not going to treat my best friend like that on my watch."
The blonde smiled again as they settled down at a table.
"I'll be right back." Megan said, "I'm going to get a drink. Do you want anything?"
"I'm good. Thanks though, I just want to focus on reading this." Charlene responded, opening the Petrova book.
Megan eyed the large book. "Better you than me."
Charlene got a good laugh out of that. Her best friend loved reading as much as she did, but a big one like this one wasn't fun for her. Megan smiled widely at her laugh as she patted Charlene on the shoulder before going off to the bar.
Shaking her head, the blonde went back to reading the book. She didn't get that far into it when she felt a familiar presence.
"Damon…" Charlene sighed heavily, looking up at Damon. Her mind couldn't help but think about how attractive he looked today. Well, he always was. "What do you want?"
"So, this is where you spend your time when you're not stabbing people in the back."
She sighed again. "Oh, don't be so dramatic. I didn't stab you in the back, okay Damon? I just tricked you into telling me what I wanted to know. You've done the same thing…to multiple people." She honestly didn't have to take this, and she wasn't in the mood as she gathered up the book and started to walk away to join Megan at the bar.
She didn't get very far.
"Where are you going?" Damon asked.
Rolling her eyes, Charlene turned around to face him. "Away from you. I really don't need this today and honestly; I really just want you to stay away from me." With those words, she went to leave and was once again stopped.
"Okay. See you at Jenna's barbecue."
"What?!" Charlene looked at him bewithered. "You got invited?"
"Don't sound so surprised. It was my idea." Damon informed her with a smirk. "Jenna went to high school with Mason Lockwood so I figured a social gathering would be a good way to get to know the guy. So, I told Ric to tell Jenna…"
Charlene stopped him. "Are you sure that's even a good idea? I mean, does my aunt even know you're going to be there? You know as well as I do that Jenna's not your biggest fan." Not since she had caught her and Damon kissing on the front porch.
Before he could answer, a waitress came up to him, handing him a box. Damon gave her a flirty smile as he took the box from her.
"Perfect. Thank you." He told her, making the waitress blush as she left. Charlene rolled her eyes at the waitress' reaction and Damon turned back to look at her, tapping the box with his free hand. "I'm hoping this peach cobbler will pave the way."
She couldn't help but snort. "I think it's going to take more than a tasty desert to get into Jen's good graces." She crossed her arms and narrowed her eyes at him. "So, obviously, you got that desert for something else. What are you thinking?" Whatever it was, she wouldn't be surprised if someone got hurt in the process. The way that Damon's smirk widened when she asked made her groan out loud. "Day…"
"What?" He protested innocently. "I'm just gonna put some silver into Mason Lockwood and prove he is a werewolf.
"Really? That's all." Charlene said dryly.
"Yep. See you at the barbecue." Damon winked before taking off.
Charlene watched him leave as Megan came up to her with a drink in her hand.
"Was that Damon?" Her best friend questioned. "What was doing here?"
"Coming up with a stupid plan as always." Charlene said, frowning at the spot where the older Salvatore once was. At Megan's confused look, she added, "Let's just say that this barbecue is going to be anything but peaceful."
Hearing the implication, Megan murmured with a roll of her eyes, "Oh boy…"
Mason went to leave the Lockwood mansion to go to Jenna's barbecue, but Tyler stopped him.
"Hey, Mason, got a second?"
"No man, barbecue at Jenna Sommers' house." Mason told him, pointing out the front door. If he knew Tyler wanted to talk about something other than what happened a couple of nights ago, he wouldn't mind stopping to speak to his nephew.
Tyler looked at him in frustration and spoke before his uncle could start to leave again. "Come on man; give me two minutes alright." He begged. "You can't keep dodging me. I'm freaking out over here!"
"Tyler, what do you want me to say, man?" Mason retorted, sounding frustrated too. He needed to take the hint he didn't want to talk about it. "Yes, I turn into a wolf. No, it's not going to happen to you."
"How do you know that?"
Mason sighed. "Because you're not going to break the curse." He relented, finally giving him some answers. "Your dad didn't know anything about any of this neither did I until it happened to me."
"How does it get triggered?"
Now that was one answer he wasn't going to relent on. "Ignorance is bliss. Trust me."
Tyler scoffed in disbelief, crossing his arms. "You blow back into town with a supernatural family secret, and you expect me not to ask questions?"
"I can't say anything more." Mason said sternly. "I'm sorry Tyler. It's just better for you if I don't." He moved to leave.
Tyler still had something to say. "You ever find that moonstone?"
"Do you know where it is?"
"What's so special about it?"
"I told you, it was my mom's. It's sentimental." Mason gave a sigh. "Look, just don't worry about it. Forget I even brought it up, okay? See you later." He finally left the house, missing the fact Tyler had pulled the moonstone out of his pocket to look at it.
"I always find it so fascinating when men journal." Abigail commented as she picked up one of Stefan's journals and started flipping through the pages.
"It's extremely hot." Demi added with a grin as she winked at Stefan, who just walked into the living room.
Katherine had one of Stefan's other journals and was lounging on the couch, lazily looking through it.
"You shouldn't read someone's journals." Stefan stated, speaking for the first time since catching them in the living room.
This only earned a smirk from the brunette on the couch. "I know. I'm sorry." She said, but she wasn't sorry at all. "It's just all too tempting. All your inner thoughts and feelings, laying there on your desk for us to read."
"Which is why it's better to hide them in places where no one can find them." Abigail pointed out, gesturing out the hand holding Stefan's journal.
He took this time to take it from her and hand her a glass of blood. She took it gratefully. Stefan had actually got them all one, which got Katherine off the couch and Demetria over to him.
"Damon's private stock." He told them.
Abigail's face took on a soft look at the mention of Damon as she took a sip of the blood.
"That's right!" Katherine said, taking a drink herself. "You don't do human, I read that." Abigail didn't comment on the fact that she was the one who told her sister that. I also read about your recent werewolf sitting. That must have been a surprise."
"What do you know about werewolves?"
"Obviously we know not to go up and pet one, like a normal animal." Demi said with a roll of her eyes.
"Their bites kill, Stefan." Katherine added. "It's best to stay clear of them on a full moon." She smirked as she took another drink of blood.
"Unless you want to die." Abigail shrugged, sitting down on the couch.
Stefan looked at them curiously. "And…how do you know that?"
"Who do you think was responsible for ridding the vampires of this town in 1864?"
"Founding families."
"Spearheaded by?" Demi drawled.
It took a minute for the realization to hit Stefan. "The Lockwoods."
"Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner." Demi teased, clapping her hands. Then she grew serious. "You do remember the Founder's party in 1864? The one I made you dream about?"
"I was your escort…"
Demi nodded. "And it was before you and Damon knew our little secrets…"
1864…
Stefan and Demetria stood next to each other, enjoying a drink together and each other's company.
Earlier in the night, Damon had been disappointed that he hadn't taken Abigail to the ball but his friend, George Lockwood had. However, it was nothing a few drinks couldn't cure.
Especially to get through the speech he had to give.
"Everyone will you please join me in raising a glasses to my good friend, George Lockwood." Damon announced, grinning.
The man in question smiled and glanced over at Abigail, who was clapping for him and beaming. He kissed the back of her hand before going over to Damon as he quickly schooled his expression into a relaxed one after seeing George kiss Abigail.
Damon clapped George on the shoulder, returning to smiling. "George, thank you for bravely defending the south."
"My honor, Mr. Salvatore." George told him. "After all someone had to do it."
Damon beamed at him as he clicked his glass with George and took a drink.
Stefan smiled as he watched Demi laugh at something he said. She was just so beautiful, especially when she was laughing.
Demi's laughter stopped though when she noticed Katherine talking to Henry, noticing the serious look on her sister's face.
"What's wrong?" Stefan asked, confused as to why her laughter stopped so abruptly.
"Nothing to worry about, love." Demetria told him reassuringly. "I just need to talk to Katherine and Abigail, that's all. I'll be right back."
Giving him what she hoped was a reassuring smile, she took off and quickly gathered up Abigail before they headed over to Katherine and Henry.
"What's going on, Kat?" Demetria asked concerned.
"We have a problem." Katherine told them seriously. She glanced over at George and they both followed her gaze to stare at him as well.
Present…
"From the moment we met George, we knew he'd be a problem." Katherine took over the story for Demetria since she knew about it more.
"So, you're saying that all the Lockwoods are werewolves?" Stefan questioned with raised eyebrows.
Abigail shook her head, putting her arms behind her. "No, just that the werewolf gene runs in the family. There's some of them that aren't." For one very specific reason, of course.
"How many werewolves are out there? I mean…is it just limited to the Lockwoods?"
"No, there are others." Katherine told him. "Not many. They're practically extinct. They mainly exists now in books and really bad movies." She rolled her eyes, taking a drink again.
Demi smirked at that as she sat her drink down and stepped even closer to Stefan. "It seems like your asking all the questions…now it's my turn to ask you one and I want an honest answer." She said, staring up at him as she took the journal Abigail had been reading and pulled out her picture in it, showing it to him. His face took on an unreadable expression. "Why did you keep this if you aren't in love with me anymore, huh? I mean, you could have just burned it, or threw it away after all these years…and yet, here it is, right in my hand. Instead of asking me what I'm doing back here, I should be asking why did you? It can't be because of Megan." She made a face at the mention of her doppelganger. "I know for a fact you didn't come back here to meet her, especially since you had no idea she existed until you got here. So, there's only one explanation…you came back because you wanted to fall in love with me all over again…" She whispered out the last sentence, leaning up closer to him.
Katherine watched their interaction while Abigail looked away. Demetria didn't know what she excepted Stefan's reaction to be, but it definitely wasn't to reach out and touch her face. She leaned into the touch.
"What is it about you that makes me still care?" Stefan breathed.
"Because feelings just don't go away Stefan…" she purred, leaning in closer and closing her eyes, thinking he was going to kiss her.
But that's not what happened… Demi gave a sharp gasp and jerked backwards, looking down at her neck to find he had stuck her with a dart. She slumped to the ground.
This sent Abigail and Katherine into attack mode, but surprisingly, Stefan had been prepared and caught them off guard. He got them too and he eyed the weak vampires on the ground for a moment before he started to drag each of them down to the basement.
He attached each of them in a chair and chained them down so they couldn't be able to move after the vervain wore off. "Now, where were we?" Stefan asked. "That's right; you guys were going to tell me why you came back to Mystic Falls, weren't you?"
"Please…don't do…this…" Demetria managed to say.
"Answer the question." Stefan said sternly. He didn't want to have to do this the hard way, but if he had to, then that's what he had to do.
"I told you…I came back for you…Stefan…I'm telling you the truth…" Why didn't he believe her?
"We're going to play by my rules now…" He grabbed some nearby clothes and put them on before grabbing some vervain.
As if she knew what he was thinking, Abigail weakly protested, "Stefan…don't do this…"
He ignored her and put the vervain on Demetria's cheek. She screamed out in pain as the plant burnt her skin, making a sizzling sound.
"Answer the question." Stefan repeated himself, pulling the vervain.
Demi whimpered, her eyes welling up with tears. "So what? You're going to torture me?"
"I'll do whatever it takes to get you to tell me the truth."
She opened her mouth to say something, but Katherine cut her off.
"Later that night at the Founders' Ball…" the brunette started.
"I don't want to hear anymore stories about the past." Stefan said, looking at her frustrated.
"Yes, you do, Stefan. That's exactly what you want to hear."
1864…
Katherine told Demetria and Abigail to go back to their dates so she could deal with George Lockwood by herself. They were going to protest but one look from her cut them off. It made her smirk. Her sisters were too easy to control, it was why she was able to convince them to get involved with the Salvatore brothers.
Taking a sip of her drink, Katherine didn't have to look up to know George was heading her way.
"She's all alone." He said with a smirk, sliding up next to her. "Does this mean I have you all to myself?"
"Don't let Abigail hear you say that…she might get jealous." Katherine smirked.
George brushed it off. "I'm not worried about that. I only went with her because she wanted to make Damon Salvatore jealous."
"That's so like my sister." Katherine shook her head, smiling and taking another drink. She changed the subject as she looked around at everyone having a good time. "Your father has outdone himself." She commented.
George chuckled. "Knowing father, he will want to throw a Founders' party every year."
"I must admit, I'm rather surprised that you'd come looking for me." Katherine told him.
"Because you are the reason for Abigail and Demetria's involvement with the Salvatore brothers?"
"No, because I'm a vampire who could kill you in your sleep." Katherine said seriously. She sipped her drink.
George's playful demeanor dropped, blinking at her. "I beg your pardon?"
"Relax, George. I know that you know our secret."
He glared at her. "This conversation is over." She didn't let him leave, grabbing his arm and tightened her grip on it.
Katherine smirked at the gasp he gave. "And I know your secret too and I know you're extra strong, only not as strong." She released him and her smirk turned into a smile.
"How do you know what I am?" George asked bewithered.
"You think I would have us settle in a town without knowing my enemies?"
George said nothing for a moment. "What do you want?"
Katherine just simply smiled at him.
Present…
"What did he want?" Stefan asked immediately afterwards.
Katherine, Demetria, and Abigail shared looks with one another, but said nothing.
Stefan sighed heavily as he grabbed a free chair and sat down on it, staring at the sisters, waiting for them to say something.
