The alarm clock next to her bed rang loudly, signally it was time to get ready for school, startling Charlene awake from her peaceful and dreamless sleep. She groaned and blindly felt for Damon, but she didn't feel him in the bed next to her. Immediately, Charlene sat up in bed and looked around.
"Damon?" She called out, thinking he was probably in the bathroom. She got no response and she frowned deeply. Did he seriously just leave after what happened last night? Before she jumped to conclusions, she noticed a piece of paper on the pillow next to her.
She picked it up and read the contents.
Sorry for leaving this morning, but I didn't know if you wanted to get caught being in bed with me by Megan or Elena. I don't regret anything that happened last night. I love you.
Damon
Seeing those three words in written form brought a big grin to Charlene's face. He loved her. Damon Salvatore loved her, and she loved him. It was hard to believe what happened last night, but seeing her ripped panties on the ground definitely crossed that out of her mind.
Sighing happily, Charlene tucked the paper under the pillow for safe keeping for now until she found a good enough place to actually keep it at. She got up out of bed, got dressed, and practically skipped downstairs only to find Megan already in the kitchen, making a hot pot of coffee.
"Morning!" Charlene chipped happily as she moved over to one of the cabinets to grab a coffee cup before heading to Megan, holding out her cup so her best friend could pour coffee in it with a big grin on her face.
Megan gave a weird look. It was strange for Charlene to be this happy in the morning. She wasn't a morning person at all. So, her best friend knew something was up.
"What's got you so happy?" Megan questioned, pouring the coffee in the offered cup.
"Um, nothing important." Charlene answered as she tried to sound nonchalant about her happiness. Also, she didn't know how Megan would react to what happened between her and Damon.
"Yeah, I don't believe that for one second." Megan said bluntly. "What happened?"
Her best friend was going find out eventually, so she might as well just tell her.
"Damon told me he loved me last night." Charlene finally admitted. There was no response from Megan for a moment, but then a loud squeal escaped her lips.
"OH MY GOD! CHARLENE!" Then she tossed herself at Charlene, hugging the blonde tightly.
The blonde laughed at Megan's reaction as she returned her best friend's embrace.
"I can't believe it!" Megan squealed, pulling back but kept her arms around Charlene. "Did you say you love him back?! Does this mean you guys are together?! You have to tell me EVERYTHING!"
"Okay, okay, I will!" Charlene didn't hesitate to do just that. She even told her that they slept together too.
By the time she finished, Megan was grinning widely. "This is so awesome!" Her eyes went wide in excitement. "Oh my god, if you guys got married and me and Stefan got married, we'd be sisters-in-law! We could have a double wedding!"
"That's thinking too far ahead, Megan." Charlene laughed. "I don't even know if we're even together. For all I know, it could have just been a one time thing."
"I doubt that! He told you he loved you, Charlie. That has to mean something."
"But it is Damon, Megan. I don't know if he's ready for a serious relationship. We haven't talked about it yet. He left this morning, not wanting to get caught by you or Elena." Charlene bit her bottom lip for a moment. "Speaking of my sister, can we keep this between us? I'm not ready to tell her what happened yet."
"Of course, no problem! I'm just so happy for you, Charlene." Megan hugged her again.
"Thanks I'm happy too." And she really was. After waiting for this for so long, it was hard to believe it was actually happening.
Megan pulled back the hug as her phone started ringing in her pocket. She pulled it out and looked at the caller ID.
"It's Stefan." Megan told Charlene before answering and putting the phone to her ear, "Hey hot stuff, what's up?" The blonde stifled a laugh at the nickname her best friend called her boyfriend. "Okay, yeah, we'll be over in a minute." She nodded, smiling softly. "Love you too." She hung up and looked up at Charlene. "Stefan needs to see us at the boarding house and to bring Elena."
"What for?"
Megan shrugged. "I don't know, but he said it was important."
Nodding, Charlene went upstairs to get Elena, and all of them went to the boarding house. Megan knocked on the door.
Seconds later, Damon opened the door and Charlene had to fight the urge to throw herself at him.
"Hey." Charlene greeted, as causally as she could, ignoring the look Megan was giving her. "Stefan called Megan, telling us to come over. He said it was important."
"Right this way."
Charlene let Megan and Elena head inside first before following them. Damon caught her arm. Before she could say anything, he pulled her in for a quick kiss. It was enough to leave her breathless. He released her lips and smirked at the dreamy look on her face as he put his arm around her waist, leading her the rest of the way inside. He let go of her when Stefan appeared but stayed close to her.
Megan gave Stefan a quick hug and a kiss before pulling back and asking, "So, what did you need to see us for?"
Instead of him answering, Rose appeared, and Charlene tensed up at the sight but Damon running a soothing a hand down her back relaxed her. The woman gave a sheepish smile before holding her hands up to show she meant no harm. Still, Charlene's eyes narrowed at her.
"What is she doing here?" Megan asked, surprised to see her.
"Let's go talk in the living room." Stefan suggested.

A little bit later, they were in the living room, and Megan sat with Charlene and Elena on the couch as Rose paced before them.
"Okay, you have to understand I only know what I've picked up over the years and I don't know what's true and not true." She said, finally stopping in her pacing to turn towards the three of them. "That's the problem with this vampire crap, but Klaus, I know he's real."
"Who is he exactly? And what kind of name is Klaus?" Megan questioned, shaking her head. Must be short for something, she guessed.
"He's one of the originals, he's a legend." Damon explained, sneaking a glance at Charlene. Megan bit back a grin. It was hard to keep in what happened with him and Charlene, but she held it in, knowing it wasn't the time to bring it up.
"From the first generation of vampires." Stefan added.
"Like Elijah?" Elena asked.
"No." Rose said, "Elijah was the Easter Bunny compared to Klaus. He's a foot solider. Klaus is the real deal."
It was hard to take this serious with a name like Klaus, but if Rose said he was dangerous, Megan believed her, even though for all she knew the woman could be lying.
"Okay, so you're saying the oldest vampire in the history of time is after me?" Elena stated, worriedly.
Charlene put an arm around her sister's shoulder, squeezing Elena to her. "No." She said, not wanting to worry her.
"Yes." Rose said at the same time.
The blonde sent a glare Rose's way.
"What they're saying is, I mean if what she's saying is true…" Damon started.
"Which it is."
"And you're not just saying that, so I don't kill you."
"Which I'm not."
"Then we're looking at a solid maybe."
"Not helping, Day." Charlene mumbled, giving him a brief look before turning her gaze back over to Elena.
Megan spoke up, putting her own arm around Elena. "I wouldn't worry about it, Lena." She tried to reassure her cousin. "Elijah is dead, right? So maybe no one else knows that you exist, that we exist." She hated the fact her and Charlene were doppelgangers too, but they couldn't be used for the sacrifice anymore with her being a witch and Charlene being a vampire. So, all that was left was Elena.
"Not that you know of." Rose pointed out.
Charlene glared at her once again. "Can you just shut up?" They were trying not to make Elena worry about this, but Rose talking was ruining it.
Stefan joined them on the couch, giving them each reassuring looks. "Look, I've never seen anyone who's laid eyes on him." He told them. "I mean, we're talking about centuries of truth mixed with fiction. For all we know, he could just be some sort of stupid bed time story."
"He's real." Rose said sharply, and they all looked at her. She had a serious look on her face. "And he doesn't give up. If he wants something, he gets it. If you're not afraid of Klaus, then you're an idiot."
Damon rolled his eyes. "Alright, we're shaking." He said sarcastically, making Rose give him a withering look while Charlene bit back a smile. "You made your point."
Megan stood up from her seat. Nothing could be done about this information right now, so right now, it would be a good idea to just go to school. Elena seemed to have the same train of thought as she stood up too.
"Where you going?" Stefan asked.
"School." Megan answered for the both of them. "We're late. Besides, even if Klaus is real and he is after Elena, we can't just sit here and wait for it to happen so we might as well just go to school."
"Let me go grab my stuff, I'll go with you." Stefan said, standing up.
"That's okay, we'll be okay going by ourselves." Megan told him reassuringly, going up to him and kissing his cheek before following after Elena.
"She's in denial." Damon muttered to Rose.
Stefan flashed a glare his brother's way. "Shut up, Damon."
Bonnie got out of her car after she made it to school, her arms holding tightly onto her books to make sure they didn't fall. She accidently tripped, and stumbling to catch herself, she dropped some of them. Bonnie rolled her eyes as she moved down to pick them up.
"Here, I got it." Bonnie looked up to find Jeremy here now and she smiled at him gratefully as he picked up her books and handed them over to her.
"Thanks." She took the books from him, and they headed towards the school together. "Where's Elena, Megan, and Charlene?"
"They're running late today." Jeremy chuckled, looking over at her with a smile. "What are you doing later? You want to hang out at the Grill, shoot some pool? The winner owns the table."
Bonnie couldn't help but feel taken aback by his offer. "Uh why?"
"Why what?"
She bit her bottom lip for a moment. "Well, you never asked me to play pool with you before so why now?"
"Uh, I don't know, I thought it'd be fun, nevermind." Jeremy felt a little embarrassed and he looked away from her.
"No, hey." Bonnie stopped him from walking away from her by putting a hand on his shoulder. He glanced back at her, and she gave him a warm smile. "Sure, it's just…"
"Just what?"
"It's just you're Elena and Charlene's little brother and…" Bonnie trailed off for a moment, but when she continued, she changed the subject. "Sure. It's just, I'm really bad at pool."
Jeremy laughed. "Yeah, yeah." Then he smiled at her. "I thought you'd might be."
Before their conversation continued, a boy around their age came up to the two of them. "Excuse me, do you guys know which way is the office?"
"Yeah, yeah." Jeremy nodded. He pointed in the direction the boy needed to go as he explained where it was, "Through the double doors then straight ahead, quick left, and then your first right. You must be new here."
"Yeah, I am." The new kid laughed. "It's kind of hard to hide it. I'm Luka."
"I'm Jeremy, this is Bonnie."
Luka looked over at her, and she couldn't help but blush a bit at his gaze. "Hi, Bonnie."
Jeremy looked between them, trying to hide the frown forming on his face as the two stared at each other. "Anyway, Luka." He said, breaking Luka's gaze away from Bonnie. "I'm actually heading in that direction. Why don't you follow me? It can get confused."
"Thanks man." Luka looked at Bonnie again and smiled at her. "It's nice to meet you, Bonnie." He took off with Jeremy.
Bonnie watched them leave, still blushing.
Despite saying she was going to school with Elena, Megan ended up not doing that. Instead, she went back to her house and grabbed stuff she needed for what she was about to do.
She was going straight to the source about Klaus. If anyone would know about him, it would be the Pierce sisters as they had been on the run from said man. She would have told Elena to come with her since Charlene's sister was the one who definitely needed this information, but she decided not to. However, she did tell Caroline what she was doing as she needed the blonde's strength to remove the boulder covering the tomb.
Caroline didn't agree with what she was doing and was telling her just that at the moment. "I can't believe I'm agreeing to this." She said worriedly. "I'm a terrible liar."
"I know, but I need to do this." Megan told her. "I need to get this information from them. Just try and keep Stefan busy. He doesn't need to know I'm doing this." She didn't particularly like lying to her boyfriend, but this was the only way. If he knew what she was doing, he just was going to stop her.
"I'm even worse at the duplicity and you know this."
Megan sighed, fixing the bag she had over her shoulder. "Well, you seemed to have no problem at all keeping me busy when you were spying on me and Stefan for Demetria."
"Yeah, because she threatened me. Not that I'm saying you use that as a tactic, it's…Stefan's gonna see right through me."
"It'll be fine." Megan tried to reassure her. "Please just do this for me." She turned her head to look over at Caroline with a pout. "If your really my friend, you would do this for me. Pleeeease?"
Caroline groaned in response, and Megan knew she had the blonde. "Fine, okay. I'll do it."
"Thank you!" She beamed, giving Caroline a one-armed hug.
"Yeah, yeah." The blonde mumbled but she returned the embrace. "Why don't you want Stefan to know anyway?"
"Because if he knew what I was doing, he would stop me. He's a bit overprotective." Megan rolled her eyes playfully. "You would think he would know by now that I can take care of myself. I mean, I am a witch just like Bonnie is." She shook her head. "It's sweet he wants to protect me, but still."
Caroline nodded in understanding as they made it to their destination and went under the church's ruins, standing in front of the entrance of the tomb. Her blonde friend glanced at the doors worriedly for a moment before looking over at Megan.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" she asked.
"I am." Megan said with a serious look on her face. "If anyone is going to know about Klaus, it's going to be them and the only ones who will know how we can stop him from coming after Elena."
"But you're asking for the truth from people who's probably never given it. Are you sure about this?" Caroline asked again.
"The answer's the same. I'm definitely sure about this. We can't just sit around and wait for him to come here. We have to know. Please Care?"
Caroline sighed, seeing she wasn't going to change her mind. She removed the door, revealing no one instead even though there was.
"Demetria? Katherine?" Megan called. "Abigail?" There was no response from either of them. She frowned as she looked over at Caroline. "You can go ahead and leave. I got it from here."
Before the blonde could leave, there was noise from inside the tomb and they both looked at the entrance. Katherine and Demetria slowly made their way towards. After the light hit them, you could see how awful they looked. Their hair was dull and raggedy, and their skin was slowly greying. Megan didn't see Abigail though.
"Well, well, this is a surprise." Demetria said, her voice cracking as she spoke.
"You come to watch us wither away?" Katherine said dryly. She glanced over at Caroline and narrowed her eyes. "Goodbye Caroline."
The blonde hesitated to leave but after glancing at Megan and seeing her nod, she finally left, leaving Megan alone.
"So does Stefan know you've come to see little ole us?" Demetria asked.
"What he doesn't know won't hurt him." Megan shrugged off her question as she sat down her bag. "So I got something for you guys which you can get if you can answer a couple of questions for me." She told them brightly, zipping the bag open.
Katherine rose an eyebrow at her, unamused. "You came to bribe us? What kind of questions?"
"Well, we found out about Klaus." Megan answered bluntly. "So, I wanted to know about him. We know he's after Elena."
"You've been keeping yourselves busy, haven't you?" Demetria chuckled.
Megan didn't comment on that as she pulled out the large Petrova book she had stolen from Charlene's bedroom. "I also got the book about your family's history. It says here that the family line ended with you, Abigail, and Katherine. Obviously since me, Charlene, and Elene exist, that isn't truth."
Katherine scoffed at her. "So what? You think if you brought us some family keepsake that we'd open up?"
"Nah, I knew that the book wouldn't be enough. So…" Megan took out a bottle of blood from the bag. Instantly, Demetria and Katherine charged forward, but with the spell, they weren't able to get out. So, she didn't flinch when they did this.
Their eyes were dark with hunger.
"Hungry?" Megan inquired with a smirk. They glared heatedly at her, and she found herself giggling at the sight. Probably a bad idea to tease them like that. "Sorry." She apologized. "So will you answer my questions?" Katherine and Demetria shared looks with one another before they sat down on the ground, and Megan smiled boastfully. "Great, thank you." She pulled out three plastic cups from her bag and poured the blood in each one before she scooted two of them in the sister's direction with a nearby stick.
They immediately grabbed them. Megan peered inside the tomb, trying to see if she could spot Abigail. She didn't.
"Is Abigail still there?" she asked.
Katherine looked irritated at the mention of her other sister. "She is, but she's brooding about what happened. She actually feels bad." She made a face as she took a drink out the cup. Instantly, the brunette regained some of her color.
Megan was surprised by this, but she didn't make any other comment about it. She wasn't here for that.
"More blood?" Megan offered, seeing they had drank what they had. They handed the cups back and she poured them more blood, then scooted the cups back over to them.
"It's a long story, Klaus and my sisters." Katherine started off, and Megan relaxed, ready to hear it. "It goes all the way back to England, 1492, we left Bulgaria. Or, well I was thrown out. My sisters didn't want to abandon me, so they came with."
"What were you thrown out for?" Katherine drank the blood she had, and Megan gave her more.
"Our family, yours and Charlene and Elena's true ancestors disowned me. My indiscretions were not tolerated at that time. I had a baby out of wedlock. The shame." Katherine rolled her eyes, taking a drink.
"So it was kept secret?" Megan guessed.
"Mhm. My baby was given away. I was banished to England and like I said, my sister's came with me, and we had to learn to adjust. We became English that was when we met a nobleman named Klaus and Abigail." The tone of Katherine's voice became bitter, and Megan wondered briefly why that was. "Became taken with him and she was for a while, but then we found what he wanted from us and then we ran like hell."
