England, 1942…
"Abigail, hurry!" Katherine cried out frantically back to her sister, who was falling behind her and their other sister Demetria. They had to get out of here and quickly!
Abigail tried her best to catch up to the two of them, but she was getting too tired. She was done running. She hated this that this had to happen. If she had known this was how their life was going to end up in England, she would have never fallen for the man who was out to kill her and her sisters.
She managed to catch up to them, but ended up tripping over a tree, scrapping her knee in the process. Katherine and Demetria rushed over to her and quickly helped her up before they hid themselves behind a tree. Just in time too as they heard Elijah's voice. Abigail grasped both her sister's hands and held her breath.
"They're here." He said to his group. "Girls! I know you three are near. I can smell your blood. It's pointless to run! Klaus will find you wherever you are."
They stayed hidden behind the tree, not making a sound.
"This way." Trevor's voice sounded. He was helping them get away, but only because he was interested in Katherine and didn't want her to die. "There is more blood over there."
Hearing their footsteps leave, Katherine and her sisters went to leave and take off running again, but Trevor arrived and made them stay, pushing Katherine back against the tree.
"Head east." Trevor told them. "I can't lead them astray anymore."
"We're tired of running." Demetria whined.
"Nevermind. There's a cottage. You'll be safe there. Go now. Go!"
The three sisters shared looks with one another, but they quickly left. Abigail hoped they would get to that cottage soon.
Present…
"So, what did Klaus want?" Megan wondered out loud, even though she already knew the answer, but she wanted to know from them.
"The same thing that he'll want with Elena. He wants to break the curse. You and Charlene got lucky since he needs a human doppelganger to break it."
"So, he only needed one of you?"
Demetria nodded, taking a drink of blood. "Yeah, only one."
Megan frowned. "But if that's true, then why did you and Abigail have to run?"
"Because to figure out who it was going to be, there was a spell that needed to be cast to find out who it was supposed to be."
Megan said nothing, thinking over her doppelganger's words. If they just stayed and had the spell casted, two of them wouldn't have had to run. Thinking about that was sad. Two of them would have done all that running for nothing.
"He wanted to drain every drop blood of our body." Katherine said, snapping Megan out of her thoughts.
She couldn't help but shudder at the thought. That didn't sound pleasant at all, and it left her stomach in knots, thinking about that happening to Elena.
Unaware what Megan was up to, Charlene ended up staying at the boarding house. She wasn't in the mood to go to school after what they learned. It scared her if Klaus did exist, there was a chance her sister could die. That was something no sibling wanted to know.
Charlene entered the kitchen to get a drink, and Damon was there, getting his own drink. She bit her bottom lip at the sight of him, hesitating to get his attention, not knowing what to say to him. There was no reason to be nervous, but she was. What if she talked to him about what happened, and he denied everything? She didn't know if she could take that. However, she knew in her heart he wouldn't, especially after the kiss they shared when she came to the boarding house.
Shaking off the nervousness and the doubt, Charlene cleared her throat. It caught Damon's attention and he turned to face her. He was surprised to see her for a moment, but then, he smirked at her.
"Decided to skip school today?"
"Pretty much." Charlene laughed. "I didn't feel like going today."
"Mm, I wonder why." Damon teased her as he headed over to her. He stopped in front of her and tucked her blonde hair behind her ear, smirking at her again.
"Well, it definitely doesn't have anything with you." Charlene watched as he pouted at her, making her giggle.
"You wound me, Charlie." He placed his hand on his chest in mock hurt.
Charlene rolled her eyes, but she was smiling. Seeing this, he smiled back at her and cupped her face in his hands before bringing her in for a kiss. She couldn't help but smile into the kiss, forgetting her troubles for a moment. It started off gentle at first and then it got deeper, and more passionate. Before she knew it, she was perched on the kitchen counter with Damon in between her and her legs locked around his hips. She got lost in him which was easy to do because of how good of a kisser he was. She could kiss him for hours and never get bored.
Charlene moaned in the kiss, especially when Damon slid his fingers into her soft locks and tugged a little. "Damon…" She felt him smirk against her lips and eventually, he broke away from the kiss only to start kissing down her neck. "Mm…" She titled her head back to give him more access. As much as she was loving this, she needed to talk about what happened last night and what it mean for them, so reluctantly, she used her hands to pull Damon away from her.
"What's wrong?" Damon asked, seeing the look on her face.
"There's nothing wrong. I just think we need to talk…about what happened last night."
He said nothing for a moment, looking worried. "You don't regret what happened do you?"
"No." Charlene quicky reassured him with a smile as she stroked his cheeks with her thumbs. "I don't regret it at all. I loved it…I love you."
This made him smile. "I love you too."
"I was just…wondering what it means for us. Are we together? Do you want to be together? If you do, I want it to be for the long hall. I don't want to get together and then you decide you don't want to be I don't know if it could take that, Day. I've already been heartbroken once and I don't want to go through all that again." Charlene said quickly and all in a jumble. She would have continued to babble but Damon stopped her by putting his lips on hers, interrupting her from speaking.
This kiss didn't last as long as the last one, and Damon pulled away as he pressed his forehead against hers. Charlene let out a breath, staring into his blue eyes.
"I want us to be together, Charlie." Damon told her seriously. "And I promise I would never hurt you."
"Okay." Charlene said softly. He smiled, and kissed her again.
A few minutes later, Charlene entered the living room with Damon. They were holding hands, and she couldn't help but feel giddy about it.
"Alright Rosebud." Damon said, seeing Rose sitting on the couch. Her head was turned away. "We need some answers." There was some stifling coming from the vampire. Rose was crying, and he knew it. "Oh please don't tell me you're crying 'cause your buddy Trevor lost his head."
At the insensitive words, Charlene nudged Damon in the side sharply with her elbow. "Hey, be nice." He shrugged.
Rose wiped away her tears and looked over at Charlene. "Has he always been this sensitive?" It was a sarcastic question.
"Oh yeah, that's why I'm with him." Charlene responded back sarcastically, patting Damon on the chest. In response, he rolled his eyes good-naturedly at her as he released her hand to put his arm around her waist.
"Now tell us…how do we find Klaus?" Damon questioned.
"You don't find Klaus, he finds you."
"Come on." Damon pressed. "Somebody's got to know somebody who knows where he is, right?"
"Add another two hundred somebodies to that and you're still not even close."
Charlene spoke up this time before her boyfriend (ugh she could get used to calling him that) could say anything. "This isn't getting us anywhere." She said, crossing her arms. "You must know someone who can help. How else were you able to get the message out of Elijah? Just tell us who it is. My sister's life is on the line." She didn't like to beg especially to someone who kidnapped her, but she wanted to protect Elena and if she had to beg for it, then she sure as hell was going to.
Rose said nothing for a moment before letting out a sigh. "Fine, there's a guy named Slater in Richmond. He might be able to help."
"Perfect. I'll drive."
She gave him a look. "No. You forgot not all of us can do sun."
"Then you drive. Come on." Damon looped his arm around Charlene's shoulders and led her out with Rose begrudgingly following behind them.
Caroline stood outside of the Mystic Falls high school when she spotted Stefan heading in the direction of his car. School was over at this point, and she just knew he was off to go check on Megan, which of course, she couldn't let him do.
"Stefan!" she called out his name as she chased after him. He stopped walking and turned to face her once she stood in front of him. "Uh, I need to talk to you. Where are you going?"
"Well, Megan went home sick; I just want to go check up on her."
"Ditch her." Caroline said with a smile.
"I'm kind of worried about her." He started to walk off again, but she stopped him again.
"You know what? Of course you are." Caroline sighed, trying to sound as pathetic as possible. "Go ahead, I'd…you know what? We can talk later." She went to turn around but she didn't get very far as she stopped when she heard Stefan's voice from behind her.
"Uh, talk about what?"
Caroline turned around to face him again. "I might have done something…" she said in hesitation.
"What did you do?" Stefan looked at her wearily.
She shifted on her feet awkwardly. "Told Tyler I'm a vampire."
Stefan flashed her a look of disbelief.
Megan poured some more blood for the vampires in front of her as she continued her questions. "So, what does the doppelgangers have to do with the sun and moon curse? But I guess the better question is…what does it have do with Klaus?"
"It's really tedious but…" Katherine drank the blood before crushing the cup in her hand. She regained more of her color, as did Demetria. "The curse was bound by the sacrifice of the Petrova blood. Witches are crafty with her spells. The doppelganger was created as a way to be able to undo the spell. Once the doppelgangers reappeared the curse can be broken."
"I guess that means you guys ran before he killed one of you?"
"That's one way to put it." Demetria mumbled, drinking her blood.
Megan glanced over at her, confused.
Flashback, 1942…
"There it is!" Demetria exclaimed in a hushed tone, grabbing onto Abigail and Katerina's hands as they hurried along through the woods towards the cabin Trevor had been talking about. Getting to the cabin, they banged on the door.
They didn't have to wait long for an answer as an old woman opened the door, eying the three girls with distrust.
"Please help us." Katerina begged desperately.
"I don't invite strangers into my home." The old woman tried to shut the door on them.
Abigail was the one to push the door back. "Please Miss, we need help." She told her. "Trevor…he…he told us you could help us."
"Damn him. Always making promises I can't keep." Rose appeared at the door and stared at them, surprised by their presence, but the surprise didn't last long as she brushed it off. "Let the girls in." She told the older woman, who nodded and finally allowed them inside, then she compelled her. "Bring them water and something to eat.
The old woman nodded before disappearing to go do just that.
"You must be Rose." Katerina said, turning towards her. "Thank you. Trevor said to show you this." She pulled out the moonstone from her dress pocket and showed the rock to Rose. "To prove we are who we say we are and that you'd help us to freedom."
Rose eyed the moonstone in disbelief. "You stole this from Klaus?" She glanced over at Abigail and Demetria, who looked pretty content in letting Katerina do all the talking. It was clear who the leader of the three sisters was.
"It was to be apart of the sacrifice ritual, so I grabbed it and we made our escape."
"People do not escape from Klaus." Rose snapped. "Everyone who tries ends up back in his grasp and anyone who helps him dies."
"I know the risk you bring on yourself by giving us aid."
"I'm risking nothing. At nightfall, I'll bring all of you back to Klaus and beg him to show us both mercy." Rose grabbed onto Katerina.
"No!" Abigail and Demetria cried out before trying to help their sister escape the vampire's grasps. Rose didn't allow that and managed to get all three of them locked up in an empty bedroom.
Present…
After a good amount of driving, they finally made it to Richmond. Rose parked inside a parking garage and got out of the car.
Charlene followed behind her, hoping this guy Slater could help them get a hold of Klaus.
"Back entrance. How convenient." Damon commented sarcastically as he got out to stand next to Charlene, taking her hand immediately. She bit back a smile at the action.
Rose rolled her eyes. "That's the point." She said, "We can't all have little daylight rings."
"Are you sure Slater is going to be here?" Charlene asked quickly before Damon could say anything. She hoped so because then there would be no point in being here.
Rose nodded. "I called him." She answered. "He's here. He's always here."
"Good." Then, Damon shoved her against the nearby wall by the shoulders, surprising the older vampire.
"Damon." Charlene scolded immediately, but he seemed to not hear her as he leaned in close to Rose.
"Just one thing, if your setting us up in any way, I will rip your heart out and shove it down your throat." Damon threatened. "It's something I'm very good at."
In response, Rose grabbed him and pushed him against the car at super speed, twisting his arm behind his back. "Don't even think about it." She hissed, glancing at Charlene when she was about to move forward to help him. The blonde glared at her and stepped back, crossing her arms over her chest, and then Rose turned back to Damon. "I'm older than you and stronger. Don't get on my bad side." At those words, she released him and stepped back. "You can trust me."
"Well sorry we find that hard to believe. I mean, you did kidnap me and Elena, so you can't blame us for not trusting you." Charlene informed her.
Rose didn't comment and Charlene didn't press it as they followed her inside a coffee shop. The sun shined through the large windows, but Rose didn't burn once the light hit her.
"How can you stand in the sun in here?" Charlene asked, surprised.
"Double paned and tempered. UV rays can't penetrate. You see the appeal now?"
Oh, Charlene definitely could, especially to those vampires who weren't so lucky in getting daylight rings.
A young man came up to them. He looked to be around Damon's age. This must have been Slater.
"That and the free Wi-Fi." Slater joked with a grin.
Rose smiled as she embraced him in a hug. "Hey, how are you?"
"Good. I saw you come, what are you doing here?"
She stepped back from the hug. "It's a long story, but I want you to meet…" She gestured in Charlene and Damon's direction. However before she could officially introduce them, Slater cut her off.
"Damon Salvatore. Turned 1864 in Mystic Falls by Abigail Pierce aka Abigail Petrova and this is…" Slater nodded in Charlene's direction. "Charlene Gilbert, Abigail's doppelganger, and turned by Damon Salvatore last year." Charlene shared a surprised look with Damon as Slater turned back to look at Rose. "So I take it I was right, what I told you about the tomb under the church was true?"
Rose smiled and nodded. "Yes. It was right. Thanks for the tip."
Slater looked over at Damon. "It's nice to meet you." He held out a hand for Damon to shake, but he ignored it, and he slowly dropped his hand down. "Maybe. What's going on Rose? Where's Trevor?" He knew something was wrong by looking at their faces.
Charlene looked away though, feeling bad Trevor had lost his life, even though he did kidnap her, no one deserved to die that way. She felt a squeeze on her hand, and she glanced at Damon with a small smile, returning the pressure.
Megan stayed quiet as they finished the recent of their story only speaking when she was sure they were finished. "Assuming how things went, I'm guessing Rose never ended up taking you back to Klaus." She said quietly.
"No, but not because she had a change of heart."
England, 1492…
After night time fell, Rose entered the room where she was keeping the sisters. They were on the bed, huddled together.
"It's nightfall." Rose said, "Time to go." None of them said anything. Her eyes narrowed as she sniffed the air. Immediately, the smell of blood entered her nostrils. One of them had hurt themselves.
She went over to the bed, and pulled back the covers quickly, seeing that Katerina was bleeding through her dress.
"When did this happen?" Rose demanded.
"When we were running, she tripped and hurt herself." Abigail spoke in a quiet voice, her arm wrapped tightly around Katerina's shoulders.
Rose's eyes narrowed, not believing that for a second. "It's a lie, I would have smelled it." She spotted the knife in Katerina's hand, and she took it away from her.
"I'd rather die than go back to Klaus. Please, just let me die." Katerina begged.
"What about your sisters? They will get punished for what you have done."
"They knew what they were getting into when they helped me steal the moonstone." Katherina said.
Rose shook her head, glancing at Abigail and Demetria, who wouldn't meet her gaze. "I can't let you die. If you die, then Trevor will as well." She bit into her wrist and pushed it against Katerina's mouth, forcing her to drink the blood, even if Abigail trying to pull her away.
Her wound in healed.
"No…no!"
Rose heard Trevor come and she left the girls, which in the ended, wasn't a good idea.
Present…
When Katherine finished the story informing that she had killed herself, Megan jumped up to her feet in shock. "What?! Are you kidding me? You killed yourself!"
"Klaus needed a human doppelganger. As a vampire, I was no longer in the running to be sacrificed."
"Then what? You let your sisters be in danger of being used?"
Katherine rolled her eyes. "Of course not. I asked them if they wanted to be changed, so I did."
In the back of the tomb, Abigail was listening in on the conversation. She scoffed at Katherine saying she asked them if they wanted to be changed, which was a complete lie. At least, Abigail never agreed to it.
Megan shook her head in disbelief. "But in the end, you guys still weren't safe. You had to run for years, how is that any better?"
"I underestimated his spirit for vengeance, but it is better. Living in a suitcase is so much better than running the risk of having my blood spilled over some silly little rock."
She said nothing, definitely not blaming Katherine for feeling that way, but she couldn't see herself EVER doing that even if she was used for the sacrifice.
"Are you sure Elijah's dead?" Slater asked as they sat at a table together.
Charlene was seated next to Damon, who had pulled her chair closer to his, so he could put his arm around her shoulders. With them just getting together, he clearly wanted to stay close to her, but Charlene definitely wasn't complaining. One of her hands slid into Damon's and let their fingers curl together.
"Beyond dead." Damon told him.
Slater shook his head, resting his elbows on the table. "Trevor was a good man." He sighed. "He helped me with my dissertation on sexual deviance in the Baroque period. I was schooling for my Psych PhD."
"Slater's been in college since '74."
Charlene's eyes couldn't help but go wide at that. Geez, she could barely get through high school, she couldn't imagine going to school for that long.
"When I was turned." Slater said with a grin. "I have 18 degrees, 3 master's and 4 PhD's."
"The point?" Damon looked at the other male vampire in annoyance. Charlene couldn't blame him.
"Exactly. I mean, what is the point?" Now, it was Slater's turn to look annoyed. "What should I be doing with my eternity? If you have an answer, please enlighten me."
Charlene spoke up. "Look, we're not here to argue." She said, giving Damon a look before turning back towards Slater. "We might not know each other well, but we need you help. Is there anyway to get a hold Klaus like you were able to get in contact with Elijah?"
Slater said nothing for a moment. "Craigslist."
Damon rose an eyebrow at him in disbelief. "Really?"
"Seriously, I respond to a personal add to get sent to somebody who knows somebody who knows Elijah, who's dead and that's where my connection ends."
Charlene slumped down in her seat. That was something she didn't want to hear. Unknown to the three vampires, Elijah stood outside of the coffee shop, watching them, and listening in on their conversation.
"So is anything you told me the truth?" Megan questioned, staring at the girls with narrowed eyes. She didn't feel like they were, but she still had to ask.
"I have no reason to lie to you." Katherine answered with a roll of eyes, even though Megan couldn't see it. "Neither of us do. We can't do anything except to sit here and read and rot."
"You can thank Damon for that one." Demetria commented, turning to the next page in the book.
Megan took a deep breath and let it out, crossing her arms. "Okay, let's say what you're telling is true. Why are you two even here? Did you just come here to take Elena and hand her over to Klaus?"
"We were going to hand you, Charlene, and Elena to Klaus, but since only one of you is human, we can only take Elena. We thought maybe Klaus would be willing to make a deal with us. Elena for our freedom." Demetria explained.
Megan stood there for a minute, thinking about everything the Pierce sisters had done since coming back to Mystic Falls. "So, is that why you had Mason find the moonstone for you?" she asked.
"Right again." Katherine commended.
Her eyebrows furrowed together as she thought, "But there's something more than just that, isn't there? You don't just need Elena and the stone…what else did you need to break the curse? There had to be something, why else would you need to trigger Tyler Lockwood's werewolf curse." Her eyes snapped over to meet with Katherine and Demetria's gaze.
Katherine's lips curled up into a smirk. "Witches and their spells; so many ingredients, so many people to sacrifice."
"So you need a werewolf…"
"Believe it or not, they're hard to come by."
"What else?"
"A witch to do the spell." Demetria answered this time. "Unfortunately the one we had bailed on us, so good thing we have Bonnie as backup." She smirked, and Megan tensed up at that. And there was yet another thing Bonnie was forced to be involved in.
"Is that it?" Megan asked quietly, hoping that's all that it was, but deep down, she knew it wasn't.
"No. A vampire is also needed."
Her eyes went wide in realization. "Caroline? That's why you turned Caroline…to break that stupid curse."
"It could have been anyone I suppose." Katherine mused. "But I like the poetry of Caroline."
"I can't believe this." Megan shook her head, taking a step back. "You were just going to hand us all over to Klaus without a second thought, just so you three wouldn't have to keep running." Her hands clenched together in anger as her eyes glared heatedly at Demetria and Katherine.
"Without blinking." Demetria said bluntly before disappearing into the tomb, but Katherine stayed where she was only so she could get the last word.
"Better you die than I." She said, and she went back in the tomb, leaving Megan alone with her thoughts.
When she came here, Megan had wanted answers, but now she wished she had never stepped foot in here in the first place…
"Here's what I don't get: Elijah moved around during the day, which means the originals knew the secret of daylight ring." Damon stated, leaning forward as Charlene took a sip of her coffee and leaned back in her seat, looking at her boyfriend and their two acquaintances. "Now, why would Klaus want to lift the curse of the sun and moon?"
"To keep the werewolves from lifting it." Slater said, "If a vampire breaks the curse then the werewolves are stuck with the curse of the moon forever and vice versa."
"But werewolves are extinct." Rose frowned.
Charlene snorted, gaining Rose and Slater's attention. "Not even close."
Slater said nothing for a moment. "Mystic Falls?" At her and Damon's nods, he grinned, "God, I've got to visit this place. It sounds awesome."
"Yeah, that's the word for it." Charlene said sarcastically, getting a chuckle out of Damon. She gave him a smile in response.
"Can we stop the curse from being broken at all?" Damon wondered aloud.
"What do you mean?"
"Well, if we make the moonstone useless, would it stop the curse from being broken?"
Slater frowned. "Well, yeah, probably, but why would you want to do that?"
Damon smirked. "Tell me how."
"You think I'm gonna help you figure out how to do something that will piss off an original? And keeping them from walking in the sun?"
"I get it." Charlene spoke up, and Slater looked at her. "I get that you're scared, but we need your help. If you do, we can help you walk in the sun. I have a witch friend who would gladly help you with that. That won't happen though if you don't help us.
Before he could say anything in response to her, the windows all around them broke, letting the sunlight in.
Rose screamed as she burned along with Slater.
"Get Rose out of here!" Damon shouted at Charlene over the loud frantic, screams of everyone in the coffee shop.
Charlene didn't want to leave him, but knew she had no choice. She covered Rose with her jacket and zoomed her out of there with her speed, back to Rose's van. Charlene put the older vampire in the back of the car. Rose's face was slowly going back to normal.
"You're okay, you're gonna be okay." Charlene tried to reassure her.
"I know…" Rose said, her body still shaking.
Before she could say anything, Charlene felt Damon's presence behind, and she whirled around only to throw herself at him in hug. It was brief as she pulled back and searched with her hands to make sure he wasn't hurt or anything.
He grasped her hands in his, stopping her search. "I'm okay." He told her, pressing his forehead against hers for a moment. Holding her hand, he turned to Rose. "Who was behind that?"
"I don't know. Where's Slater?"
"Iowa by now. Who the hell knows?"
"He's not behind this." Rose defended, knowing what Damon was thinking. "He's a good guy…he wouldn't betray me."
"Then who could it have been then?" Charlene asked, a worried look crossing her face.
Rose's face started crumbling with tears again, "It's Klaus, don't you understand?! You don't know this man, we're dead, we're all dead…" She sobbed, and Charlene found herself pulling the older vampire into a hug to comfort her. Rose returned the sentiment and clung to her as Charlene rubbed her back.
Megan didn't know how long she stood there, staring at the tomb, but it must have been for a while, considering Katherine and Demetria hadn't came back. Clearly, they were done talking to her and she was done talking to them.
With a huff, Megan stuffed the bottle of blood back in her backpack before picking it up and throwing one of the straps over her shoulder. She would have left if Stefan hadn't appeared in front of her.
"Megan." He didn't look very happy with her, but she could see the relief in his eyes, happy to see she was alive.
"Stefan." Megan eyed him nervously. "Look, I can explain. I…"
He cut her off, "You don't have to."
Realization hit her. "Caroline told you, didn't she?" Megan groaned to herself. She should have figured the blonde would blab.
"No, she kept your secret."
"Then how…?"
"It didn't take me long to figure it out what was so important you'd have to keep it from me."
"I'm sorry." Megan apologized. "I felt bad for lying to you, but I needed to get some answers and I knew if I told you what I was doing, you would stop me."
"Listen to me." Stefan grasped her shoulders. "Whatever they said to you is a lie. Do not listen to them, Megan. They're liars."
Megan shook her head. "You don't know that Stefan. They could be telling the truth. You didn't hear what they told me."
"You don't have to worry, I'm not gonna let anything happen to you, or Elena, or Charlene."
She smiled sadly. "It's a sweet sentiment, Stefan, and I love you for it but…" She moved her hands down to grasp his. "You'll end up getting hurt too. How is that better? It's not."
"There's nothing you can do, Stefan." They looked at Katherine, who emerged from the tomb, and she stared at them, a hint of a smirk on her lips. "I haven't even told you the best part of the story."
And when she did, Megan gasped in shock and nearly fell backwards, but Stefan caught. Her eyes welled with tears.
"No…" Megan breathed as she moved into Stefan's grip. Klaus killed their family…
"He killed them, our entire family." Katherine said, "Just to get back at us for running. Whatever you do to escape Klaus, he will get vengeance on your friends, your family, and anyone you ever loved."
Stefan's next words went through one ear and out the other. Despite knowing Katherine was a manipulative liar, Megan believed her. If they crossed Klaus, everyone would die.
Megan trembled in Stefan's grasp at the very thought of everyone she loved dying.
"You just have to always be the protector, don't you, Stefan?" Demetria said with a sneer, appearing beside Katherine. "Sorry to tell you, but even you can't protect them from this…however, you might be able to stop it from happening if you had this." She held out her hand towards Katherine and her sister pulled out the moonstone, placing it there.
Stefan let Megan go abruptly, causing her to stumble for a moment but she caught herself. "Oh no, there it is." He pointed at them both. "It's the ultimate lie, isn't it? You both spun this whole thing so that we would have to get the stone from you, didn't you?"
"We weren't lying about any of it, Stefan." Demetria told him seriously.
"No, let me guess. You want to trade the stone for your freedom, you manipulative, psychotic bitches." Stefan growled, moving towards them but stopping before he entered the threshold.
"We don't want our freedom because when Klaus shows up to kill us all and he will, we'll be in the tomb, where no vampire will enter because they can't out. We'll be the safest psychotic bitches in town." Katherine smirked at Megan and Stefan before locking arms with Demetria and they went back into the tomb.
Megan said nothing, not even knowing what to say at the point, feeling Stefan's worried gaze on her.
After a long day, such as this one, Charlene needed a long and hot shower. She used the one in Damon's bedroom as she planned on staying the night over in the boarding house. Once she finished in the shower, Charlene let her wet hair fan around her as she headed into the bedroom to grab one of Damon's black shirts and a pair of his boxers. Both were a little big on her, but she didn't mind it. The clothes smelt like him, and she definitely wasn't going to be complaining about that.
Smiling, Charlene headed downstairs to join Damon in the living room where he no doubt was making himself a drink. However that wasn't the sight she was met. She froze, seeing Rose leaning in to kiss her boyfriend. A growl was low in her throat, but she didn't make a move, waiting to see what Damon would do. If he let her kiss him, then she wouldn't hesitate to go over there and rip their limbs off.
Thankfully, he didn't as he gently pushed Rose away from him. Charlene was able to relax now, and she smiled to herself before slipping away back upstairs before they saw her.
Charlene wasn't upstairs by herself for long as Damon entered the room, two drinks. He held out one towards her.
"Here, thought you could use one after today." He told her.
"Thanks." Charlene took the drink from him but didn't take a drink, sitting it down on the table beside Damon's bed. Before he could say anything, she moved towards him and kissed him deeply as her arms wrapped around his neck.
Not one to turn down a kiss from her, Damon kissed her back just as deeply as his hands raked up and down her back after managing to put his own drink down. The kiss didn't last long as Charlene pulled back and smiled.
"Not that I'm complaining, but what was that for?" Damon asked, smiling back as he cupped her face in his hands, stroking his cheeks with the pad of his thumbs.
"Do I need a reason to kiss my gorgeous boyfriend?"
This made Damon smirk. "Ohh, so I'm your boyfriend now, huh?"
"Obviously. That's what together means…unless you changed your mind." Charlene bit her bottom lip, hoping that wasn't the case.
Instead of saying anything, Damon vamp sped them over to his bed and he kissed her, pushing her against the mattress. "Definitely not…" he mumbled into her mouth.
Charlene smiled in relief, kissing him back.
Megan didn't say one word to Stefan on the drive back to the Gilbert house. She decided to go there so she could share everything she learned to Elena, who deserved to know what was coming their way.
"Thanks for driving me over here, Stefan." Megan finally said once they stood on the front porch. She didn't look at him as she reached over to grab the doorknob.
Stefan caught her other hand behind she could do just that. Megan didn't pull her hand away, but she still didn't look at him, knowing if she did she would break down right in front of him.
"Megan."
"I don't want to talk about it. Any of it." She told him sternly.
"You have to." Stefan pressed. "Don't shut me out. Meg, please."
She finally turned around to face with tears in her eyes. "What do you want me to say Stefan? I got what I wanted. I got answers, not ones I wanted to hear, but it's too late now. I'm not even the one in danger Stefan. It's Elena, it's Caroline, it's Tyler, and Bonnie. All of them is in danger of getting killed! They're needed to break the curse!" She sniffed, trying to wipe away her tears but there was too many of them. "And the worse part is that all of this would still be happening, even if you never came back to Mystic Falls. Everyone would still be in danger…" She couldn't hold in her emotions anymore as she let out a sob and allowed herself to pulled into the strong arms of Stefan.
Charlene sighed in contentment as she snuggled into Damon with her head rested on his chest while her index made circles on his bare. She closed her eyes, smiling to herself as he kissed the top of her head and pulled her in close.
"I could get used to this…" Charlene murmured to Damon.
"Mm me too, Charlie." He mumbled back into her hair, breathing her in.
Charlene opened her mouth to say something, but the sound of Rose's voice stopped her. The blonde almost growled at the other female in the room, still remembering that this woman had tried to kiss her boyfriend. Charlene stopped herself though as she realized what Rose had said.
Slater was calling.
"Well, what are you waiting for? Answer it!" Damon said, sitting up in bed and bringing Charlene with him as his arms were still wrapped around her.
Rose finally answered, bringing the phone to her ear.
"Rose?" With their vampire hearing, Charlene and Damon could hear Slater.
She sighed in relief. "Slater? Are you okay?"
"Yes, I took off, I'm sorry, I freaking freaked."
"No, I'm sorry I involved you."
"Look, I want no part in any of this, but I did some digging."
Charlene shared a look with Damon.
"Okay, what did you find?" Rose asked.
"You can destroy the curse, but you need the moonstone."
"How? What do you mean? I don't follow."
"Can your friend get the moonstone? You need it."
Rose looked at Damon, and he nodded immediately. "Yes, he can get it." She told Slater. "What next?"
"You need a witch. Get the moonstone, a witch should be able to figure out the rest. Good luck, Rose." He hung up.
Rose pulled her phone away, looking over Damon and Charlene. Well…it turned out the day ended with good news.
"Very nicely done."
Slater put the phone away and turned around to face Elijah, forcing a smile. "Thanks, I have a degree in theater." He stared at the original in front of him, confused. "How were you able to compel me? A vampire can't compel another vampire."
"I'm a special vampire." Elijah said casually.
"What, because you're an Original?"
"Hmm." Elijah gave a brief smile as he stared into Slater's eyes, compelling him, "Now I want you to take this and drive it through your heart." He handed Slater a stake and the young vampire took it as his eyes went wide.
"But that would kill me forever."
"I know, but it's necessary." Elijah watched as Slater stabbed himself in the heart with the stake. The vampire greyed and fell to the floor.
Jonas, Luka's father, stepped out of the shadows as he stood behind Elijah and stared down at the dead vampire. "Was it really?"
"It had to be done. He delivered his message…won't be long now."
