Stefan sat at the table in the Grill, keeping a close eye on Jules, the werewolf who had bitten Rose. She was still eating and didn't seem to notice him staring at her. His phone suddenly made noise on the table, causing him to pick it up immediately. He was waiting for Alaric to get back to him about Isobel's number. Despite Megan's warning, he wanted to get a hold of her. She could have information about Klaus they needed to learn.

Luckily, Alaric had found the number and had just sent it to him. Stefan called the number, but no one answered, so he ended up leaving a message.

"Isobel, it's Stefan Salvatore." He started off, "I need to speak with you. It's about Elena, Charlene, and Megan. Please know that it's important." Stefan hung up the phone and looked up in time to see Damon entering the Grill and his older brother started to Jules with a purpose. Quickly, he stood up and intercepted Damon, stopping his brother in place.

"What are you doing here?" Damon asked, surprised to see him.

"I'm waiting for you." Stefan answered. "Listen, there's a lot of people here."

"Oh damn, there goes my plan to rip her spleen through her pain." Damon bit out sarcastically as he rolled his eyes. He tried to move past Stefan, eyes set on Jules.

However, Stefan stopped him again, putting a hand on his chest. Damon glared at him, but he ignored it.

"Hey, listen, I know you're upset about Rose."

An annoyed expression crossed Damon's face. "Why does everything think I'm upset about Rose? First Charlie and now you." He rolled his eyes. "I'm fine. I don't know if you know this but sometimes, vampires die. I'm gonna have a friendly chat with lady wolf, brother. Ease up."

Stefan stepped aside and let Damon past, but stopped him again. "So…this might be the wrong time to tell you this but…" He hesitated for a moment. "I sort of, kind of, let Abigail leave the tomb when Elijah came to get me out."

This made Damon whirl around to face. "What? What the hell…" Before he could finish the sentence, Stefan's phone rang.

It was the number Ric had gave him. Stefan quickly answered the call and took off before his brother could say anything about what he had just revealed. Damon growled in frustration. He couldn't his brother would do something so stupid. He was gonna have to have a talk with him about that later. Damon went over to Jules. She didn't bother looking at him, already knowing he was there by her table.

"Well, if it isn't the boyfriend of the vampire I meant to kill." Jules said, "I'll have to get that right next time."

Damon glared at her. "You won't live to see another full moon unless…" His face softened. "Unless you tell me how to cure a wolf bite…and then I won't kill you."

Jules finally looked up at him. "Promise?"

"Yes." Damon said without hesitation.

She said nothing as she placed money on the table and stood up, standing in front of Damon and staring at him right in the eye. "Bite me." She went to move past him, but he grabbed her arm roughly. This got a scoff out of her. "I'm not afraid of you."

"Then you are very, very stupid."

"How's your friend?" Jules asked abruptly with a smirk. "Rose, is that her name? Have the chills started? The unbearable pain?"

"If there's a cure, tell me or start watching your back." Damon warned.

Jules ignored the threat. "Did I mention the dementia?" she questioned, but not looking for an answer as she went on immediately, "It'll eat away at her brain. Soon, she'll be rabid. You want a cure?" She waited for him to nod. "I'll tell you the only cure that exists…" She leaned closer to Damon, whispering, "Take a stake and drive it through her heart." Jules smirked at the look on his face before she took her leave, leaving Damon by himself, thinking about what she said.

Rose was still fast asleep when Charlene went off to go get clean sheets for Damon's bed. If it was her, she wouldn't want to be sleeping on dirty bed sheets.

She left Megan and Elena with her, just in Rose woke up and needed something. She had just gotten the sheets, balancing them in her arms since they were rather heavy, when she heard Megan call for her.

"Charlie! We have a problem!"

The urgency in her best friend's voice made her drop the sheets and take off running back to Damon's bedroom. Rose was gone from the bed again.

"Where did she go?" Charlene demanded.

"I don't know! I just went to the bathroom for a second and she was gone!"

"Well, let's go look for her. She shouldn't be walking around by herself after what happened with Elena. We have to try and keep her inside."

Both Megan and Elena, and they went their separate ways to go look for her, knowing they might be able to find her quicker if they spilt up. Charlene went into the library and looked around.

"Rose?" she called for her before going into the kitchen to look in there. When she couldn't Rose in there either, Charlene returned to the library where she met up with Elena and Megan. "Any luck?" She asked them.

"No." Megan shook her head. She frowned. "Where could she have gone?"

"She couldn't have gotten far." Elena said.

Charlene nodded in agreement, then she pulled out her cell phone. "I'm going to call Damon." She told them as she pressed on her boyfriend's number, putting the phone to her ear. It went straight to voicemail, so she had to leave a message. "Hey, it's Charlene. I'm really worried about Rose. We have no idea where she could have gone. She was in your bedroom, but then she wasn't. I think it might be a good idea if you come home, okay? I love you." She hung up the phone, and all of a sudden, there was a noise that caught her, Elena, and Megan's attention.

"What was that?" Megan asked.

"It's coming from the basement." Charlene pointed out, able to pinpoint where the noise was with her vampire hearing. Just in case it was dangerous, she said to Elena, "Stay up here. We'll be back in a minute." She left with Megan before her sister could protest.

Charlene headed down to the basement, and Megan stayed close to her. As soon they got down there, her nose immediately could smell blood.

"There's blood." Charlene told her best friend.

Megan's eyes went wide, "That's not good!" Hurriedly, they went further into the basement and spotted empty blood bags all over the ground, leading a trail over to where Rose was on the ground, drinking from one.

"Rose…" Charlene breathed out.

Her head snapped up at the sound of her name, blood all over her mouth. Her face was normal, but it changed suddenly at the sound of Elena's voice from behind Megan and Charlene.

"Oh my god." Elena said in shock.

"Katerina!" Rose growled, hopping to her feet.

"Elena, run!" Charlene shouted at her sister. Her sister ran up the stairs quick and Megan followed behind her.

Once they were gone, Charlene tried to calm Rose down. "Rose, it's okay." She said in the most soothing voice possible. "You're safe."

It didn't help as Rose growled again and charged at her. She used her vampire speed to go back upstairs, but she wasn't fast enough to get away completely. As soon as her feet hit the final step, Charlene felt herself being launched in the air, then pinned down to the ground.

Charlene fought against her.

"Charlie!" Megan cried out, using her powers to toss Rose off of her.

Rose's body slammed against the wall, but the older vampire was quick to get back on her feet. Before she could do anything, Elena showed up out of nowhere, pulling the curtains down, letting the sun shine through. Rose screamed out in pain as she scurried away from the sun, pressing herself against the wall.

"Go, we have to go hide!" Megan said, grabbing onto Charlene and Elena's arms. Together, they ran into Stefan's bedroom. Instantly, they began putting stuff against the door to keep Rose from coming inside.

Elena and Megan broke a wooden chair in the room, and grabbed the separate pieces to use as a stake and Charlene pulled the curtains in the room apart, just in case Rose managed to get into the room.

"We should be safe now." Charlene sighed in relief, even as Rose tried to open the door.

"Elena? Charlene? Megan?" Rose's voice came from the other side of the door. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to…" She coughed and groaned uncontrollably. "Please, I need your help."

Charlene hated to leave her out there all alone, but she also couldn't let Rose come into the room, not with how the older vampire kept reacting to her sister. She shared looks with Elena and Megan, all of them wondering what to do from here.

Hopefully, Damon showed up soon. If anyone knew what to do, it would be him.

Megan didn't know how long they had stayed in this room, hiding from Rose, but the sun wasn't out anymore, so it must have been awhile. Elena sat on the ground, still clutching the stake she had. Charlene was standing beside her, glancing over the door.

"I think we're safe to leave now." She said, getting Megan to look over at her. "I don't hear Rose out there anymore."

Megan sighed in relief. "That's good." She took a breath and let it out. "We should check and make she hasn't left the house."

It wouldn't be a good thing if she was, seeing how Rose had been acting. Charlene nodded, and they went out of the room while Elena opted to stay in there. Entering the foyer of the boarding house, the front door was wide open, and Megan couldn't help but groan at the sight.

"So much for her staying inside." She mumbled before she heard Charlene's voice from behind.

"There you are." Her best friend said, relieved. Megan turned around to find Damon standing in front of Charlene.

"About time you showed up." Megan couldn't help but say.

"What happened? Are you okay?" Damon questioned, ignoring her as he looked at Charlene. "Where's Rose?"

"I don't know." Charlene admitted. "We need to go after her, she's not right in the head. She kept calling Elena Katerina."

A dark expression clouded Damon's face, but he didn't say anything as he took a hold of Charlene's arm. "Let's go." He led her out of the house.

Megan followed behind them, pulling out her phone to call Stefan to let him know what going on. They had just gotten into Damon's car when Sheriff Forbes called, informing Damon there had been a vampire attack. Megan felt a feeling of dread coming over her, already knowing Rose had something to do with it.

They got there, and Damon immediately with over to Liz to get the information about what happened. Megan called Stefan again while they waited for him to come back over to them. It went straight to his voicemail.

"Why aren't you answering?" Megan asked concerned. "I haven't heard from you since this morning. I just wanted to check on you, and I really need you to call me back. It's important." She hung up and she put her phone up before turning towards Charlene, who looked worried as the blonde stared Damon and Liz. "How are you doing?"

"I'm fine." Charlene responded quietly. "I hate this though. What if Rose did kill that person? What's going to happen to her?"

"I don't know…" Megan told her softly. "I'm sure everything will turn alright there." Even though as she said these words, she didn't believe them.

Damon finally returned over to them, and he let told them exactly what happened. Megan would have asked if he knew anything about where Stefan was, but knew it wasn't the right time to ask as they went to find Rose before someone else got attacked.

It was too late for that. By the time, they found Rose she was attacking a young girl.

"Rose, stop!" Damon shouted at her as Rose finally dropped the girl on the ground and snapped her head up to look at him, her face still changed.

In an instant, Rose leaped at Damon, but he was quicker and grabbed her before he pinned her down on the ground.

Looking at Charlene, Megan could tell she wanted to jump in and help, but knew Damon could handle it by himself.

Rose fought against Damon, growling and hissing at him.

"Rose, Rose! It's me, it's Damon." He tried to calm her down, keeping her pinned while she continued to fight. "It's Damon."

This snapped Rose out of it and her face returned to normal as her body stopped fighting. She looked out for a moment before her eyes landed on the now dead girl.

"Did I do this?" Rose whispered in horror. "I never meant to hurt anyone. I never wanted to hurt anyone."

"I know."

Megan and Charlene watched on sadly as Rose looked over at them, a heartbroken look on her face.

"I'm so sorry, I'm sorry." She whispered heartbrokenly.

"I know…" Charlene told her, tears welling up in her eyes. "I know…"

Damon tried to help Rose up to her feet. "Come on, let's get you home."

Rose immediately shook her head. "No, I don't have a home…I haven't had a home in a long time." Her face crumbled and she started to cry, her tears mixing with the blood on her face. Her body started contorting as pain hit her. "Oh, make it stop, please make it stop! I hate it, make it stop!" She sobbed frantically, her body shaking.

Megan felt Charlene grip onto her hand, and she looked over at her best friend. Her bottom lip was trembling as she tried to hold back her own tears.

She squeezed her best friend's hand back before she wrapped her arm around Charlene's shoulders and pulled her best friend into her side. They watched as Damon gathered Rose up in his arms and started to walk away, moving past Charlene and Megan without looking at them.

Megan squeezed Charlene one last time and she took a hold of her hand as they followed Damon.

While Megan took Elena back home, Charlene stayed behind at the boarding house, wanting to be there for Damon and for Rose. Even though she knew Damon wouldn't want her there, not while Rose was the way she was, but she didn't care.

She entered Damon's bedroom, and Rose was settled in the bed with her boyfriend right beside her. The older vampire was the first one to spot her and she smiled weakly. Charlene smiled back at her sadly.

"I'm sorry, Charlene." Rose apologized quietly, making Damon notice she was in the room. "I don't like taking human life. I never have."

"You shouldn't be here." Damon said, looking at her with an annoyed look on his face.

Charlene ignored it, knowing he was just upset about the situation and not at her. "You don't have to apologize, it's okay." She said to Rose softly as she joined Damon at her bedside. "I know you didn't mean to do it…" She took a hold of her hand and managed to give her a small smile.

Rose returned it, squeezing Charlene's hand as best as she could. "You know…that's the worse part of it…" she whispered. "The hunt, the need to kill, the thirst, the pleasure it brings you afterwards. I wasn't meant to be evil. It hurts."

"Then stop talking about it." Damon snapped, and Charlene glanced over at him.

"That's not helping." She said only to get a scoff as he went off to the side, but stayed close. Sighing, she looked back at Rose. "I wish this wasn't happening to you…" she told the older vampire, a guilty look crossing her face. "If you hadn't pushed me out of the way, you wouldn't have to be." She looked away.

Rose squeezed her hand, getting her to turn back towards her again. "I don't regret doing that…at all." She informed with a soft smile. "Damon wouldn't have been able to take it if you had gotten hurt. He loves you, Charlene."

The blonde looked over at Damon, but he wasn't looking. She knew he heard Rose said though.

"I know." Charlene said softly, glancing at Rose. "I love him too."

"He will try to push you away but don't let him."

"I won't."

Rose nodded, looking happy to hear that. Charlene smiled and brushed her sweaty hair out of her face.

"Why are you so nice to me?" Rose asked.

"I might be a vampire…but I haven't lost my humanity." Charlene said, "There's always going to be a part of me that's human, even though I'm physically not."

Rose let out a soft laugh. "You can never forget it, what's it like to be human. It haunts me." A sad look crossed her face. "It's the only thing that's kept me going. It doesn't hurt as much anymore." Suddenly, she started screaming in pain and jerked on the bed.

Not even hesitating, Charlene climbed on the bed with Rose and held onto her.

"Charlie, go. I got this." Damon tried to tell her.

Charlene shook her head, tightening her hold on Rose. "I'm not going anywhere." She said stubbornly. "I promised I wouldn't leave and I'm not going to. So shut up and sit down."

Damon sighed heavily, but knowing it was no use fighting her, he got into the bed and helped her hold onto Rose.

Charlene closed her eyes as she tightened her hold, wishing there was a way to take away Rose's pain without killing, but deep down, she knew there was no other way. The look Damon had on his face he knew it too.

Eventually, Rose passed out in their arms, and Charlene had to get up to use the restroom. She knew by the time she got back this would be the last time she saw Rose.

"Tell me when it's over." Charlene said sadly, brushing her hand against Damon's cheek. He didn't look at her when she did. She sighed as she kissed the side of his head before she climbed out of bed and left heading to the restroom.

When she did get back, she had to watch as Damon stabbed Rose in the chest and the vampire's body greyed out.

Rose was gone, and not in any more pain.

Charlene wished could say something to Damon to make him feel better, but there was nothing she could say.

As he picked Rose up to deal with the body, he didn't look at her as he said, "Go home and get some rest." And before she could protest, he left the room, and Charlene slumped against the wall as she ran a hand down her face in frustration.

She hated him for pushing her away like this. Charlene sighed as she pulled out her phone and looked down to see she had gotten a few calls from Megan, so she called her back.

"How's Rose?" Megan immediately asked once she answered.

"She's gone." Charlene told her. "Damon's taking care of her body right now." She sat down on Damon's bed. "She's not in any pain anymore."

Megan said nothing for a moment. "I'm sorry Charlie…I'm guessing Damon's not taking it too well."

"That's the understatement of the century." Charlene muttered, then out loud, "No. He's not. I wish I knew what to do…what to say to make him feel better."

"I don't think there's much you can do or say, Char. I would tell you to just be there for him and try not to let him push you away, like you know he's going to."

"Yeah…I guess so…" Charlene changed the subject, "I'll talk to you later, Meg. Let me know if you hear from Stefan."

"I will. Love you, Charlie."

"Love you too." Charlene hung up the phone and headed to the kitchen to grab a blood bag before she sat down in the living to wait for Damon to come back home.

When he returned, he rolled his eyes at the sight of Charlene sitting on the couch. "You were supposed to leave."

"Just because we're together doesn't mean I'm going to start listening to you." Charlene tried to joke with him as she stood up and went over to the bar to make Damon a drink. Once it was made, she went over to him, holding out the drink with a small, sympathetic smile on her face. "Besides, I wanted to make sure you were okay when you came back."

"I appreciate the gesture." Damon said, taking the glass offered to him. "I'm just glad it's over with." He took a drink.

Knowing he was trying to act like he was okay, Charlene knew him well enough to know he wasn't. She didn't hesitate to place a hand on his shoulder, using her thumb to rub it in a soothing motion.

"You don't have to pretend with me, Day." Charlene told him softly. "You can talk to me…"

"I don't have to talk." Damon bit back harshly, pushing her hand off his shoulder. Charlene flinched as he walked past her. "I'm fine."

She didn't let him get that far, grabbing his arm and pulling him towards her. "No! You aren't going to do this to me, Damon!" She snapped. "You aren't going to push me away! I want you to talk to me and just admit you are hurting and just let me in!"

In response, Damon ripped his arm away and glared at her. "What do you want to hear?!" he growled, throwing his arms up in frustration, somehow not spilling any of his drink. "That I cared about Rose? That I'm upset? Well, I didn't and I'm not."

"No." Charlene shook her head. "I don't believe you. You do care. I'm not going to let you push me away and I'm not going to let you pretend that you are turning it off and pretending not to feel. Especially not to me. Someone who loves you and wants to be there for you." She could tell her words did something to him.

"Fine, I feel, Charlie! And it sucks. What sucks even more is that it's my fault for messing with a werewolf to the point where she almost attacked my girlfriend!"

Charlene's face softened, stepping up to him again before taking his drink away from him only to put it down and grasp his hands in hers. "You feel guilty?" she figured softly.

Surprisingly, he didn't tear his hands away from her, but he scoffed at her. "That would be human of me, wouldn't it, Charlie? And I'm not human." He took his hands away and stepped back. "Go home." He snapped, looking away from her. "It's been enough doom, gloom, and personal growth for one day."

"I told you I'm not going to leave, Damon. I'm staying here whether you like it or not." Charlene said stubbornly. Her hands went up and cupped his face, making him look at her again. She stared into his pain filled blue eyes. He might be able to hide his emotions but his eyes, those beautiful eyes of his, never could. "Please, let me stay…and let me be there for you, like I'm supposed to be."

He said nothing, but eventually, he nodded. Charlene immediately gathered Damon into her arms and hugged him. As soon as her arms were wrapped around him, he returned it by wrapping his own arms around her and buried his face in her hair as he finally let her comfort him.

After getting back to the Gilbert residence, Megan followed Elena inside the house and they both found Stefan already there.

Despite how today went, Megan couldn't help the smile appearing on her face at the sight of her boyfriend. "Long time no see. Where have you been all day?"

Stefan didn't answer her question, instead asking his own, "Rose?"

Sighing, Megan shook her head sadly. "No…Charlene called me and told me she didn't make it. She's with Damon right now."

He nodded. "So, um, I called Isobel."

Megan glanced over at Elena before she went back to looking at Stefan, and she shrugged slightly. "I figured you would. No matter what I said to convince you otherwise."

Stefan looked guilty, especially as he glanced over at Elena. "I'm sorry, I had to."

"I know." Megan gave him a smile to try and ease his guilt. "It's okay. So…did you manage to find her?"

"Not exactly." The smile on Megan's face fell at the sight of John Gilbert as he stepped into their line of sight. Elena pursed her lips together as her father smiled at her. "Hello Elena."

She said nothing, not liking that he was here one bit. Megan reached for her hand and grasped it in hers as she glared in John's direction. Seeing him made her actually wish Isobel had been here instead...and that was saying something.

Daddy Issues, Part 1

Here's another chapter! I hope you liked it. I personally loved the old version of the scene between Damon and Charlene in the ending scene, but it still worked and kept Damon from killing Jessica at t end of the episode. Anyway, leave reviews and let know what you think! :)
