On my way to Riverwood, I stopped by the first checkpoint that nearly every Skyrim player typically hit. The Standing Stones.
"What do these do?" I asked.
Through a special action, a skill has been added.
Skill: Observe LV. 01
The Gamer can obtain information on what he Observes by the power of the system. Information provided scales with level.
"Observe." I said aloud, and the menu popped up, giving me the desired information.
Standing Stones: Thief, Mage, Warrior.
These three Standing Stones were constructed as a set, a long time ago, and will increase the rate that associated skills grow by 20%
Same as the game, so the good standing stone was probably the Atronach. Spell absorption was amazing, though probably a little different in this world than the game.
I picked the mage stone and jogged off to Riverwood.
It was nice to know, I thought as I jogged to town, that whatever beings behind the Game were benevolent enough to be amused and reward me for messing with it, rather than punishing me or giving me issues for doing so.
Through a Special action, a skill has been added.
Skill: Running LV. 01
The Gamer can move at high physical velocity by foot without wearing out like an average human would. Gamer's body instead sets a limit on the amount of time you can sprint, with no drawback other than slightly increased breath rate.
Running has increased to LV. 03
"I would rather just have a general movement skill. Let's say it was Bipedal movement."
Skill changed.
Skill: Running has become Skill: Bipedal Movement.
Skill: Bipedal Movement LV.02
The Gamer, as a shapeshifting being, has many ways to travel. With this skill, any form the Gamer takes that walks on its hind legs will be familiar to them, and increased levels will add Grace, Agility, and Speed to that movement.
"Wouldn't I have some experience with all my memories of walking and running by second nature already?"
Bipedal Movement has increased to LV.15
Due to extensive experience in the form of a homo sapien, the Gamer has added their experience to the game as EXP. Further leveling will be limited in this skill until experience with other bipedal body types is aquired.
"I guess that could be a downside, but it might be that 100 in running would have been the same as 15 in bipedal movement anyway."
INT and WIS increased by 1 for a correct observation.
I didn't run out of Stamina until I made it to Riverwood, which I assumed had something to do with my level in Bipedal movement.
STR and END increased by 1.
I had to wonder if these gains leveled off or if this was the kind of game that just had tedious but easy grinding.
Entering Riverwood, I decided to start actually considering what to do. While the plot of the game would likely be more realistic, so dragons would attack regardless of me doing the main quest or not, it was still pretty easily ignored. Dragons were only 'unkillable' not unkillable. They revived after a while if he didn't eat their souls, but could still be put down and kept away with a strong enough force.
The main issue was, barring some way to leave this place once I was strong enough, I'd have to deal with the Thalmor and the rising tension leading into another World War. As much as being The Gamer would help, assassination attempts weren't very fun.
I decided to think this over as I stay the night with Gerdur's family.
They were kind, as was expected, though seeing it all in the real world and actually tasting the food, and watching them prepare a chest for me to take what I like out of it for safety or to help me survive was much more moving than the floating menu in the game.
Sitting on the spare bed they offered me, I thought about this world and my place in it. As I was now, I was one of the most dangerous enemies that could be fought, outside of maybe provoking a Daedra, especially a high ranking one. I could warp the fate of the world, and was in the place of someone who's job would have been to do exactly that, though to a varying degree.
This, combined with the boon I had been gifted, a power unfamiliar to the Elder Scrolls, meant to give me an answer to my question, I decided to take that literally.
"Creation of all things" I murmur, and wrest my entire Magicka pool into creating a miniature sculpture of a dragon. Golden in color, it looked as close as I could get it to Akatosh from the Oblivion era, when Martin sacrificed himself to seal the gates.
My magicka disappeared instantly, leaving me feeling a little cold and wrung out, but the statue came out pristine.
"Hey... Martin, right? Or is it Akatosh? I suppose it could be Aka or Auri-El or some other name too... I was just looking for a little advice."
The statue glowed faintly, and he felt air around him seem to vibrate, only to notice that time was slowing to a grinding halt.
"Speak, then. What ails you, my chosen son?" the voice whispered, and it rumbled like dragon's words and yet reminded him of Martin's voice, in a disconnected sort of way.
"What should I do? I wasn't really prepared for this place to be so grounded and real, and I don't know if I should try to take control of things and shape the future."
"Listen well, child. The future is not something so simple as to be shaped, and you are no master that could do so. This world breathes with you, and as you push against it, so does it you. You speak of being an outsider, but outsiders are forbidden here. You are not. I will tell you only this. You are a champion, and your only task is the one you set yourself. I have faith you will find your answers."
The world resumed its dusty pace even as the statue cracked and splintered like it was cheap wood.
