For Megan, it felt like she was in the cage with Caroline for hours when in fact, it had only been just thirty minutes.

Thirty minutes of watching her friend get shot at over and over again with wooden bullets.

Thirty minutes of her sitting here, and being unable to help Caroline.

Thirty minutes of knowing if she even tried to do anything he would only make it worse for her friend.

Megan hated feeling so helpless. She still had tears streaming down her face even as he paused in his torturing to ask a whimpering and crying Caroline a question while she was in a fetal position.

"So, how many vampires are there in this town?"

She didn't answer. Though she wished for the torturing to stop, Megan knew both of them couldn't get up their friends.

When Caroline didn't answer, the man pulled out a spray gun and squirted the blonde in the face, making her scream in pain, clearly signally the liquid inside was vervain. Instantly, Megan started to struggle against her chains again, ignoring the pain as the metal dug in her skin.

"Just stop it!" she cried out, sneering angrily at the man hurting her friend. "You don't have to do this!"

The man ignored her as he sprayed Caroline again with the vervain.

The blonde screamed once more before she kicked at the bars of the cage hard, making them rattle. "Why are you doing this to me?!" she screamed, and Megan's heart broke all over again for Caroline. "Why are you doing this?! Why?!"

He shrugged uncaringly. "You're a vampire." He said as he pulled out what looked like a blowgun. "Why not?" He blew on it, sending wooden darts into her neck. He got a scream out of her and not for the first time, Megan wished she had access to her hands so she could use her powers and give him a brain aneurysm that would kill him right where he stood.

Then Megan froze as the man pointed the dart gun at her.

"Unless you want me to shoot your friend instead?" He suggested to Caroline.

"No!" the blonde shouted.

"Wouldn't matter if you did, I wouldn't tell you shit either." Megan snarled at him.

His gaze hardened, and without warning, he shot her with the blow gun.

As the wooden bullet went through her shoulder and making the shirt she wore bloody, Megan wished she would have kept her mouth shut.

But they ended up not telling him anything as Charlene and Elena managed to shove past him to get out of the bathroom. Of course since he was a Gilbert, he had the Gilbert stubbornness and didn't stop him from following them out.

"You're not leaving this restaurant." John said, grabbing onto their arms.

Charlene turned to glare at him while Elena ripped her arm from his grip and whirled around to face her 'father'.

"You can't tell us what to do!" she snapped at him angrily.

"Yes I can. You want to know why?" He loosened his grip on Charlene's arm, and she pulled it away as she continued to glare at him.

The blonde crossed her arms over her chest. "No, but I have a feeling your going to tell us anyway." She said to him, rolling her eyes.

to tell us anyway." She said to him, rolling her eyes.

Obviously deciding to ignore her attitude, he said, "Because I want to keep you guys safe."

"Well, you don't have to, because we don't want or need your help." Charlene informed him. "We already have a plan to keep everyone safe."

"Are you talking about the deal Megan made with Elijah? Do you really think he's gonna keep his promise to her? Putting your faith in him was a dumb move."

"I'm not putting my faith in him." Charlene corrected. "I'm putting my faith in Megan. If she thinks he's going to keep his end of the deal, then I'm with her 100 percent."

Elena nodded. "Me too." She agreed. "Besides, who else should we put our faith in? You? After everything you did to Stefan and Damon."

"We've had our differences." John admitted. Charlene scoffed to herself. Differences was putting mildly. "And I've made mistakes, but you, Megan, Charlene, and I … we're family."

Elena's gaze on him hardened. "You don't get to use that word." She said angrily. "That word is off limits to you!"

John sighed. "Fine, but it doesn't change the facts."

"You're right. Facts are facts, so listen up: you may be my father, but I'm never going to be your daughter." Elena took off after that and Charlene went to go after her, but she felt her arm being grabbed by John. She let out a frustrated sigh as she turned to face him.

"Charlene, I really am here to help." He sounded sincere, but she still had a hard time believing it.

The blonde said nothing for a moment. "It's going to take more than your word for it. Your gonna have to show it. Show that we can trust you." That was all she said to him before she took off to catch up with her sister.

After telling Elena what she was doing, Charlene used her vampire speed to get to the woods to catch up with Damon. She managed to find him and grabbed onto his arm, startling him.

"It's just me!" Charlene told him as she held her hands up.

Damon relaxed once he saw it was her, but then he glared at his girlfriend. "What are you even doing here? You were supposed to stay with John and Elena!"

"Just because I'm your girlfriend doesn't mean I have to listen to you, Day." Charlene said stubbornly. "I want to help. I'm not going to take no for an answer. They have my friends."

Knowing there was no time to argue with her, Damon gave in. "Fine, let's go."

They made it onto the scene, hearing Stefan say to Jules, "Tyler is free to make his own decisions, as soon as you release Caroline and Megan."

Damon made himself known as Charlene followed him to join Stefan and Tyler. "My brother, the peacemaker." He stated sarcastically. "Since Stefan got here first, I'm gonna let him do it his way before I resort to my way, which is a little bloodier. So give us Megan and Caroline."

"If you know what's good for you, I'd listen." Charlene couldn't help but add, glaring at Jules. She wasn't normally one for violence, she'd leave that to Damon, but her friends' lives were on the line.

Jules didn't flinch at either one of the threats, especially Charlene's as the brief smile on her face was an amused one. "Let go of Tyler." She demanded, straight faced.

"Gives us Megan and Caroline." Damon said again. "Without a full moon, it's not an even fight and you know it. We will take you."

This got a smirk out of Jules. "I'm not so sure about that, tough guy." She whistled and the rest of her pack walked out of their hiding places, all holding weapons including stakes, cross-bows, and a flame-thrower. They definitely came prepared. There was so many of them that Charlene couldn't help but feel a little nervous as she took a hold of Damon's arm. "Let's try this again." Jules said, crossing her arms. "Give us Tyler."

Damon rolled his eyes before looking over at Tyler. "You heard her." He told the young werewolf. "Go. Get over there."

Charlene flashed Tyler a worried look as he headed over to join Jules and her pack.

"Which one of you killed Mason?" Brady, the man next to Jules and the one torturing Caroline, asked with a dark look.

Damon raised his hand, a proud smirk on his face. "Uh, that'd be me."

Brady's expression darkened even more as he pointed a finger at Damon. "Boys, make sure that one suffers."

A protective growl left Charlene's mouth at his words, causing Damon to run a soothing hand down her back.

"We can take them." Damon said as he looked over at his brother.

Stefan looked uncertain, "I don't know about that."

"Well then…" Damon said slowly before he rushed over to Jules, thus starting the fight between werewolf and vampire.

As soon as she heard the fighting going on outside, Megan knew they were going to get out of this. She ignored the pain in her shoulder as she tried once again to get out of the chains while Caroline managed to get over to the cage door to try and get the latch open, even though she couldn't even reach it. As they both tried to do this, Tyler entered the RV.

"Tyler!" Megan cried out in relief.

"Tyler, there's a latch on the door and I can't get to it!" Caroline told him frantically.

In a surprising move, he freaking hesitated, and Megan couldn't help but stare at him in disbelief. "What are you doing?!" she exclaimed at him. "Get us out of here!"

"Tyler?" Caroline tried. When he didn't make a move to do anything, she tried again, "Tyler, please! Tyler?!"

Whatever stupor he was in, he snapped out of it and went over to cage, easily opening it for them. Caroline helped Tyler get Megan out of the chains. Once she was free, she ran out of the RV, almost immediately getting rammed into by one of the wolves, hitting her shoulder just right that had her crying out and falling to the ground. Using her uninjured arm, she lifted it up and managed to use her powers to keep the werewolf from attacking her even further.

"Megan!" She heard Charlene call out her name frantically and her friend helped her up to her feet.

The blonde noticed Megan's bloody shoulder. "Oh my God, are you okay?!"

"I'm fine." Megan tried to reassure her best friend, but it didn't work if the look on Charlene's face was any hint.

Before she could say anything, screaming filled the air. Megan and Charlene immediately looked around only to find all of the werewolves except for Tyler holding their heads and screaming in pain.

"What's happening?" Caroline asked with wide eyes.

Even Tyler was in disbelief. "What the hell is going on?"

In that moment, Jonas Martin appeared on the scene. His hands were up, and Megan just knew he was casting the spell that was causing the werewolves so much pain. She noticed Stefan and Damon slowly standing up to their feet, and she ran over to her boyfriend, who immediately put his arms around her and let out a sigh of relief. He did notice her shoulder being hurt, causing his eyes to darken in angry. She patted him on the cheek, hoping this gesture showed him she was alright.

Once all the werewolves were down except for Tyler, Jones stopped his spell and looked over at the group. "Elijah made a promise to Megan." He said seriously, "I'm here to see it's upheld. You need to go. Get out of here now."

They all shared looks with one another before they left, but Megan looked back at Jones to mouth a thank you to him, then faced forward as she leaned into Stefan's side, feeling tired. Her boyfriend kissed the side of her head and pulled her even closer to him, causing her to smile to herself.

As Stefan took Caroline back home, Megan and Charlene headed back over to the Gilbert household where Elena immediately ran over to them as soon as they walked through the door, giving them each a hug.

Megan winced a bit as Elena hugged her a little too tightly. "Careful."

The brunette looked at her confused for a moment, but then took notice to the fact part of Megan's shirt was covered with blood. "Oh my god, what happened?" she asked worriedly.

"That bastard, the one who was torturing Caroline, shot me in the shoulder with one of his wooden bullets." Megan explained with a scowl. "It was kind my fault though. I should have kept my mouth shut. You always did say my mouth would get me into trouble." The last sentence was directed towards Charlene.

"I know, but still, he shouldn't have done that to you." Charlene informed her best friend, scowling herself.

Elena grabbed onto Megan's hand, pulling her towards the kitchen. "Come on, let's get you cleaned up."

Megan smiled at her cousin gratefully. "Thanks Lena."

"Of course."

After Elena cleaned up her wound and bandaged her up, Megan went up to Charlene's bedroom to go take a nap. As soon as her head hit the pillow, she was out like a light.

Downstairs, Charlene stood in front of the coffee maker to make a pot. She looked over at her sister, who was in the kitchen as well.

"Do you want a cup of coffee?" Charlene offered.

"Isn't it too late for coffee?" Elena questioned with a laugh.

"It's never too late for coffee, Lena." Charlene answered in serious tone, but she had a grin on her face that had her sister laughing again.

Elena shook her head, amused. "If you say so." She shook her head again as she went over to the fridge. "But no thanks, I'll just get a bottle of water."

"Okay. More coffee for me then." Charlene said before turning back towards the coffee pot. Then she felt another presence in the room, making her look back only to find John was in the room with them now. She scowled at the sight of him as she went to stand next to Elena, crossing her arms across her chest. "What do you want now?" She asked, annoyed.

"I just want to apologize about earlier." John said, "I'm sorry."

Charlene scoffed. "There's something we haven't heard before." She retorted sarcastically.

John sighed and opened his mouth to say something else, but Elena cut him off, a scowl on her face, matching the one on Charlene's.

"Enough, already." She snapped at him. "We don't want you here."

"Exactly." Charlene agreed. "I don't know how many times we have to tell you until it sinks in."

Elena walked away from him as Charlene went back to the coffee, pouring some in a cup. She thought maybe John would leave at that but he was still here as he said,

"I'm not here to fight with you guys." He said.

"Yeah, I know, you're here to protect me." Elena rolled her eyes.

He said nothing for a moment as he pulled something out his pocket. "I thought you might want this." It was a beautiful bracelet. "It was your mother's." He went over to Elena and handed it to her.

"Isobel?" Elena asked quietly, fingering the bracelet.

"No, your mother, Miranda." John said softly, looking between Elena and Charlene as the blonde took the bracelet from Elena to take a look at it herself. It was so pretty and brought tears in Charlene's eyes at the thought of Miranda wearing it. "I remember her wearing it when she was younger. I found it in a box, with some of the things your dad left me. It's yours to share now." He smiled sadly as he focused his attention on Elena. "Miranda and Grayson were your parents, Elena, and I know I'm nothing to you. To any of you. You have no reason to believe me or trust me. I've done so many horrible things, but when you lost your parents, I lost my brother, my family. I've lost my way. I know that I probably won't ever make things right with you, Megan, and Charlene, but I'm going to do everything I can to protect you and this family." He took off, and Elena finally let the tears fall from her eyes.

Charlene kept hers in, needing to be strong for her sister even though John's words hit her hard too. She pulled her sister in her arms and held her close as Elena buried her face into the blonde's chest. Rubbing the back of her head, Charlene kissed her forehead before looking up and seeing Stefan standing there, watching the two of them sadly, so she knew he had heard the conversation.

"I'm guessing you heard all that?" Charlene still asked anyway. Hearing her sister talking to someone, Elena lifted her head to look and see who it was. Once she saw it was Stefan, she broke the hug with Charlene and wiped her eyes as he made his way over to them.

"I did." Stefan answered her.

Charlene sighed, running her fingers through her hair with her free hand as the other one was in Elena's. "I really want to believe especially after he says stuff like that, but I just don't. None of us do, and I don't think we ever will."

Elena nodded her agreement and since she hadn't been there, she asked with a concerned look on her face, "How's Caroline?"

"I could use your help."

Charlene shared a curious look with Elena, and then Stefan explained the plan. It was a easily agreeable one. Charlene went upstairs to get Megan.

Her best friend was fast asleep in her bed, and Charlene felt bad about waking Megan up, but knew her best friend would want to be apart the plan to help Caroline.

"Meg, wake up." Charlene said, gently shaking her. It took take long for Megan to awaken.

"Ugh, what is it?" Megan groaned as she sat up in Charlene's bed, rubbing the sleepy out of her eyes.

Charlene explained what was happening, causing her best friend to jump out of the bed in excitement.

"That's a great idea!" Megan squealed. "It's been forever since we've done something like that! You guys go ahead, I'll meet you over there once I get a few things."

Charlene chuckled in amusement. "Okay, see you there!" She left the room to go back downstairs.

Hearing a knock at her door, Caroline sighed as she left her bedroom to answer it, dressed in her bathrobe, wondering who it could be here this late at night. Thankfully, with her advanced healing, all of her wounds were gone. Going into the foyer, she saw Stefan standing outside her door through the window as she made her way over to the front door. She opened it up and smiled at her friend.

"Hey." Caroline greeted softly.

"Hey."

"What's going on?" Caroline wondered.

Stefan gave her a smile. "I was a bit worried about you, after everything you went through tonight."

"I'm fine." Caroline told him quietly, but she smiled, grateful for his concern.

"Good. But, just in case, I brought some back up."

At these words, Elena, Charlene, and Bonnie appeared from behind Stefan.

"We're gonna slumber it!" Elena told her with a smile.

"We haven't done that in ages." Bonnie added.

"Megan is supposed to be here too, but I don't know…" Charlene trailed off as her best friend finally made her appearance, lugging around two bags filled with junk food probably.

"Sorry about that!" Megan said loudly, grinning at Caroline. "I wanted to get as much junk food as I could! I even got ice cream, and I brought my copy of the Notebook, your favorite movie! If this doesn't make you feel better, I don't know what will!"

Caroline started to cry, so grateful to have friends like the ones she had.

"Aw Care!" Megan cooed, putting down the stuff and embracing her other blonde friend. Charlene, Elena, and Bonnie joined in on the hug, making it a group one.

While in the embrace, Megan looked over at Stefan, giving him a smile as she mouthed the words I love you. He mouthed back as he returned the smile before he took off, knowing Caroline was in good hands.

Crying Wolf, Part 1

Before you ask, Damon did not sleep with Andie. In the rewrite and in the old story, Andie was just a human blood bag to him but of course, she does have feelings for him in the show. It's gonna be fun to write Charlene and Andie's interactions because of this. Hehe. Anyway, please leave reviews and let me know what you thought! Until next time on Surviving Vampires 101! :D
