Author's Note: Hope you love the updated version! :D
Since it's been awhile since we've had a focus on Stefan/Megan, this entire episode is gonna be mostly the scenes at the Gilbert lake house. :) That's all I have to say, so enjoy the first part of Crying Wolf! :D
Megan woke up to the loud sound of her cell phone ringing, then the next thing she knew, she was shoved off the bed and fell to the floor.
"Ow." She groaned, rubbing the side of her head where she had hit when she landed on the ground, and wincing as she did so. She turned to look at her friends on Caroline's bed, giving them each a pout even though they probably couldn't see it. In retrospect, they shouldn't have all been in Caroline's bed, considering it wasn't big enough for four people. Given it had been her fault they all had as she insisted the bed was plenty big.
Shaking her head, Megan scrambled across the floor to reach her phone as it kept on ringing.
Apparently, Charlene couldn't stand it anymore. "Megan, answer the damn phone already!" she groaned, chucking a pillow at the back of her head.
"Jesus! I'm getting it!" Megan rolled her eyes as she turned around toss the pillow right back at her best friend, who only caught it and tucked it back under her head as the blonde lay back down. Then she muttered under her breath in a joking, teasing manner, "Geez, I forgot how much of a bitch you could be in the morning."
"Shut up." Charlene grumbled into her pillow.
"Megan, the phone!" Caroline reminded her loudly, lifting her head for a brief moment before putting it back down with a grunt.
Bitchiness in the morning must be a blonde thing… Megan finally was able to grab her phone and after seeing it was her boyfriend, she answered in the bright, happy tone she almost always had in the morning.
"Hello lover, how are you this fine morning?" Her smile widened at the sound of Stefan's laughter over the phone, which she always loved hearing in the morning. Next to waking up next to him. Something she missed last night. It wasn't very often that Megan would sleep somewhere else other than her boyfriend's bed.
"Megan, shh!" Bonnie shushed her.
Deciding to let her friends go back to sleep, Megan managed to maneuver herself out of the room, gathering the blanket around herself as Stefan finally spoke up.
"I'm guessing the sleepover went good?" Her boyfriend asked.
"Besides getting kicked out of bed by my grumpy best friend, thanks for that by the way." Megan said the last part to Charlene, knowing her best friend would hear her even from where she was. The blonde did and her best friend grunted in response, causing Megan to roll her eyes with a smile. "Soo…" Her voice turned slightly seductive as she brought her knees to her chest. "I was thinking when can we have our own sleepover?"
"Don't we already do that?"
"Well yeah, but I don't want to do it here. I want to be taken far, far away from here. Like Far, Far Away from Shrek 2!"
Stefan chuckled a little at that before asking in a serious tone, "Even with everything that's going on?"
"That's why I want to get out of here. To forget what's happening for a little while. It'll be good for the both of us." Megan smiled, even though her boyfriend couldn't see it. "We need this. So, what do you say? Want to go away with me?"
Stefan said nothing for a moment. "Where would you like to go?"
Giddiness hit Megan immediately as she grinned widely. "I know just the place."
A few hours later, Charlene headed back over to the boarding house. It was really weird not waking up to the sight of Damon next to her. She had missed him.
When she got there, Charlene let herself in. "Damon?" she called.
"Hello, sunshine." He said as he headed down the stairs. She nearly ran up there to meet him halfway, but stopped in her tracks at the sight of Andie.
Normally she would probably jump to conclusions, however, she didn't this time as she noticed a bandage on Andie's neck. At the sight of this, Charlene realized he had been feeding from her. She wasn't angry about it. She was just relieved Damon hadn't slept with her. It still didn't make her any less jealous though.
Charlene shook off the jealousy and smiled as Damon made his way down to her, kissing her. She deepened the kiss instantly. As they kissed, her eyes found Andie's and smirked against Damon's mouth at the jealousy in the new reporters' eyes. Charlene pulled back from the kiss, giving her boyfriend a smile.
"I've missed you." She said, and Damon gave a soft look, the one he only reserved for her and people lucky enough to see it.
"Missed you too." He leaned in and whispered in her ear, "Thank you for not jumping to conclusions with Andie. I only fed from her, that's all."
"I know. I believe you." Charlene smiled again as she touched his cheek with her hand, and pressed her lips to his, but it was a brief kiss as Andie interrupted it with a loud, almost exasperated sigh. Really fake.
Charlene rolled her eyes at the sound as she stepped away from Damon, but stayed close while one of her hands went down to grasp one of his.
Andie looked down at her watch. "I'm late." She said while Charlene and Damon stared at her uncaringly. "This has been such a crazy day." She looked at herself in the mirror. "I'm, uh, covering the Historical Society's High Tea."
"Ooh! Thrilling." Damon said sarcastically, and in a bored tone as he took Andie's scarf, and tossed it around the girl's neck.
"Yeah, it's for some visiting writer." Andie said, "He's writing a book on small-town Virginia. It's a big snooze."
"Sounds like it." Charlene commented, the only thing she would agree on with her.
"Writer?" Damon asked, now curious about what his new blood bank was saying. "What's his name?"
"Elijah Smith."
Charlene and Damon shared a look with one another before Damon scoffed.
"Smith?" he asked incredulously. "He's using Smith."
"Someone's been watching way too much Doctor Who." Charlene said, shaking her head in disbelief, but she guessed Elijah had to use some kind of excuse to why he was here.
Damon smirked at what his girlfriend said as Andie looked at herself in another mirror before turning around. He reached up to tie the scarf around her neck.
"Okay. You have your story straight in your mind, right?" Damon asked her.
Andie nodded. "I can't say that you bit me or drank my blood, and we got to know each other, and I really like you and I want to be friends with you."
At this, Charlene flashed Damon a look, wondering why he had compelled Andie to say this. He returned her look with one that said, 'explain later.' The blonde shook her head, already figuring out he did it so he could use Andie for something if he needed her. Again, another thing that should make her angry, but she was still just glad he hadn't slept with her, which definitely would have been something Damon would have done if he weren't with her.
"Good." Damon looked into her eyes and compelled her, "Now run along." He smiled, opening the door for Andie, revealing Alaric on the other side. He looked like he had been in the process of knocking on the door.
"Bye Damon." Andie told him with a smile before turning to Charlene, causing her real smile to turn fake. "Charlene."
The blonde returned her smile with one of her own.
"Hey Alaric." Andie acknowledged him as she started out the door. "Later." With that, she left and headed over to her car while Damon waved goodbye to her.
Alaric went to stand in front of Damon, who smirked as he wrapped an arm around Charlene.
"My new friend, Andie Star, action news."
Charlene rolled her eyes at Damon's statement but had a smile on her face.
However, Alaric gave him an exasperated look. "It's not called action news."
"I know." Damon shrugged. "I just like saying it. Come on." Alaric stepped inside and he closed the door behind them before turning around to head down the hall.
Before he went to follow his friend, Alaric turned to Charlene said to Charlene, "I'm surprised you're okay with Andie being here."
"Yeah, well, I'm just glad he didn't sleep with her. If he had, it would have been a different story." Charlene explained, and Alaric just nodded. Even if she weren't okay with it, she couldn't tell Damon what to do. "Anyway." She said, "I need to go back home. Jenna needs my help with some stuff. See you and tell Damon I'll see him later."
Alaric nodded, and Charlene smiled at him in thanks as she patted him on the shoulder before she left the boarding house.
After Charlene left, Alaric caught up with Damon in the parlor. Already knowing his friend was there, he spoke up.
"So, John Gilbert gave me this to kill Elijah." Damon said, unrolling the dagger from the cloth and showing it to Alaric as he looked up at his friend. He took notice to the fact Charlene wasn't with him. "Where'd Charlie go?"
"Had to go help Jenna. She said she'll see you later."
Damon nodded once before getting back to the task at hand. "Like I was saying, John Gilbert said this could kill Elijah. Said you have to dip the dagger in the remains of an old white ash tree that dates back to the Originals, if there's any truth to that." He handed the dagger to Alaric, and his friend took it only to examine it for a moment before looking back up at him.
"So you think it's a set up?" Alaric asked.
"It could be. Guy's a weasel. Wouldn't put anything past him." Damon shrugged as he headed over to the bar to make him and Alaric a drink. "What are you up to today, Mr. Saltzman?"
Alaric went over to join him. "Well, Jenna and I were supposed to go to her family's lake house, but somehow, we both got roped into doing this Historical Society thing at the Lockwoods."
"Where Elijah's the guest of honor." Damon said, smirking.
This made Alaric give him a look. "Tell me you're not gonna kill him at the party."
"No. That would be stupid." Seeing the disbelieving look on his friend's face, Damon added, "I want to know his endgame before I kill him, but I do think it's time Elijah and I officially meet." He took the dagger from Alaric and annoyingly tapped him with it.
Alaric wasn't amused at all, but he hoped Damon was telling the truth.
Since all of her stuff was at the Gilbert residence, Megan had to go there to pack for her romantic weekend with Stefan. She was ecstatic to finally get away from Mystic Falls for a bit, to forget about what was going on. She got lucky that Alaric and Jenna got roped into that boring Historical thing, or the Gilbert lake house would be preoccupied. It had been a long time since she's been there. She remembered how much fun she had when she would join the Gilberts there almost every summer. So many good memories there, and she was ready to make more there with Stefan.
After getting packed, Megan went into Elena's room to get the keys from her, and she poked her head through the door, spotting the brunette sitting on her bay window, writing in her journal.
"Lena?" she called, getting Elena's attention. "Jenna said you had the keys to the lake house."
"Oh yeah." Elena sat down her journal and went over to her dresser, opening one of the drawers only to pull out a pair of key. She crossed over to Megan and handed them to her. "Here you go."
"Thanks." Megan fiddled with the keys for a moment before looking up at Elena. "Hey, are you sure you're fine with me and Stefan going there? Because if you aren't, we can always go somewhere else."
"Of course I am, why wouldn't I be?" Elena asked confused.
"Well, I mean, this is your family's lake house…not mine, so I'd totally get why you wouldn't want us there."
Elena shook her head. "Really Megan, it's fine." Putting her hands on Megan's shoulders, she gave her friend/cousin a smile. "You're my family too, so you and Stefan go have fun."
"We will." Megan embraced Elena in a tight hug, tearing up a bit at Elena calling them family. She pulled back and gave her cousin a smile. "We'll see you when we get back, try not to get into too much trouble while we're gone."
"I'll be fine. Go."
"Okay, I'm going. Love you!" Megan shouted at the last thing as she ran downstairs, lugging her too heavy suitcases behind her. Stefan was already inside the house with his own and he was smiling at her.
"Ready for our romantic weekend?"
"Yes!" Megan squealed, practically jumping up and down on the spot. He laughed at her excitement as she slid up to him, leaning up to kiss him briefly on the lips before pulling back with a grin. She grabbed onto his hand. "Now, come on, let's get out of here before John tries to stop us from going. The last thing we need is him pretending to be a concerned and doting father and uncle. Don't want him ruining a perfectly good weekend."
"Good idea. I'll go put these in the car." Stefan grabbed his suitcase along with Megan's before he headed towards the door.
Feeling her phone buzz in her pocket, Megan pulled it out and looked at the text message she had received. It was from Caroline, asking if they could talk. She almost didn't want to answer but she did anyway as she let Caroline know they were going to the lake house, making it sound like it was more than two people going, before asking if her friend was okay.
Because of his vampire hearing, Stefan heard her phone buzz as well and looked back at her in concern.
"Uh, please tell me there's nothing wrong."
Megan didn't respond as she waited for a reply back. She got it and it said that everything was fine and to have fun. It was a relief to hear, and Megan looked up at Stefan, shaking her head.
"Nope, it's all good. It was just Caroline." Then, she grinned, making her way over to Stefan only to grab his hand and tug him towards the door. "Come on, let's get going." Whatever Caroline needed to talk to her about, it could wait until her and Stefan got back from their romantic weekend where hopefully nothing would go wrong.
Thankfully, the ride there wasn't difficult at all. There was one point she had to call Elena to ask if they were going the wrong, but other than that they made it there with easy.
Stefan parked his Porsche in front of the lake house, and Megan eyed the cabin with a wishful look on her face.
"Wow, it hasn't changed at all." She said only to let out a sigh as all these memories of playing at the Gilbert lake house came to her mind. Splashing in the water with Elena and Charlene. Eating the amazing dinner Greyson Gilbert would cook for all of them. Watching Miranda Gilbert as she gazed at her husband with so much love in his eyes while he cooked that dinner and she sat on the couch with a glass of wine in her hand, since she couldn't cook at all. Definitely something her and Elena had in common. She even remembered Jeremy breaking his arm because he wanted to prove he could jump off the dock without any help. It made her sad to think about being here without all that life.
Stefan noticed she wasn't say anything and touched her shoulder, breaking her out of her thoughts. Megan glanced over at him, managing a small smile at the concern in his eyes.
"I'm okay." She tried to assure him. "It's just…I haven't been here since…" she trailed off, and Stefan knew what she was trying to say.
"Oh my god." For some reason he had forgotten how close Megan was to the Gilbert clan. Stefan turned around to face her fully, sliding his arm over her shoulders. "Megan, just say the word, all right? We'll get back on that highway, we'll go anywhere else."
"I'm really okay, Stef. We don't have to do that. I…I just got lost in the memories, that's all." Megan gave him a reassuring kiss on the cheek.
"Okay." Stefan squeezed her shoulder in comfort before they got out of the car and grabbed their stuff, then they went up to the front of the house.
Megan took out the keys Elena gave her and unlocked on the door. Stepping inside, she took a look around. Even the inside was exactly the same and they still had stuff inside as well. It was obvious no one had been in here since Miranda and Greyson died. Megan walked further into the house, not taking notice to the fact Stefan was still out there, standing awkwardly. She sat her bag down on the counter before turning around and seeing him there.
"What are you still doing out there? You can come in you know."
"I know, but I can't."
It took her a moment to realize what Stefan meant. "Oh my god, I can't believe I forgot about that." Megan rolled her eyes at herself for the stupid move. Then she decided to have some fun with her boyfriend. "I'm sorry." She said, putting as much sympathy as she could in her voice. "But…uh…I can't let you in."
"What?"
"Unfortunately, Elena and Charlene's parents left this place to John Gilbert. He's the only one who can let you in."
Stefan gave a look of disbelief. "You're kidding me, right?"
Megan tried to keep a straight face, but that never worked. She burst out laughing.
"Yeah, I am." She calmed down a bit but let out a giggle as she gestured to the inside of the house. "Stefan Salvatore, you are cordially invited to come in." It was surprise move the Gilberts actually left part of the lake house to Megan. At the time, it didn't make sense, but after finding out Miranda and Greyson had her for a time being before handing her off to the Bennetts.
Stefan shook his head. "You are such a liar."
Seeing the look in his eyes, Megan let out a squeal and tried to take a run for it, but of course that was no use. He scooped her up in her arms, making her laugh loudly. Turning her around, Stefan kissed her passionately as he pulled her close.
Megan closed her eyes and automatically returned the kiss, locking her legs around his waist as he carried her over to the counter. He sat her down upon it and his hands explored her body. Megan moaned at the feeling.
This was definitely the start of a wonderful weekend.

Charlene stood with Jenna, joining her at the Historical Society's Tea Party as her aunt's date. Unfortunately Andie was there with them, but she just ignored her.
Unlike the rest of the parties Mystic Falls held, this was the one Charlene never looked forward to, but being the oldest of the Gilbert siblings she was obligated to come. She didn't mind doing it, knowing how important this whole thing was to her mom.
Sipping her tea, she looked around. She did spot Carol Lockwood talking to Elijah and took a listen to their conversation.
"Have you spent much time in Richmond for your book?" She heard the major ask him. "There's such a wealth of history there."
"No, I'm mostly focusing on the smaller region of Virginia." Was Elijah's response. "Lots of research. Strictly academic."
Charlene couldn't stop the quiet snort from escaping. It caught Elijah's attention of course, but she didn't look at him, so she didn't notice the slight smile on his face at her reaction.
"Charlie, what's he doing here?"
"Huh?" At the sound of Jenna's voice, Charlene looked to see what her aunt was talking about. Damon was entering the room. "Uh, I don't know."
"I invited him." Andie said.
"As a…?" Jenna questioned, glancing at Charlene, who was frowning but not about what she thought her niece was.
"Oh, just a friend." Andie told her.
Damon finally came up to them. "Hi."
"Hi." Andie said, beaming at him. "You came."
He nodded at her in acknowledgement as he slid up to Charlene and kissed her on the lips, but it was a brief kiss before he left the room.
"I'll be right back." Charlene said quickly to Jenna. She didn't wait for a response as she followed Damon only to find him heading over to Elijah and Carol. She groaned to herself at seeing this.
Great…
Charlene rubbed her temples in annoyance, but decided to leave it alone. She just hoped he didn't do anything stupid to get on Elijah's bad side.
