Megan stood on the dock, overlooking the water. It was colder than she thought it was going to be, so she didn't bring anything to cover herself with. As she stood there, she got lost in her memories of swimming in this lake with Elena and Charlene. Life was so much simpler back then. Megan sometimes missed how it was, but if this stuff never happened, she would have never met Stefan, and he was someone who she couldn't imagine not having in her life. She loved him so much.
Megan wasn't paying attention, so she didn't notice Stefan coming up from behind her. She felt something being wrapped around her shoulders, making her snap out of her thoughts. She glanced behind her, watching as her boyfriend made sure she was completely covered by the blanket. Megan smiled at the gesture.
"Thank you." She said softly.
"Of course. You looked like you were freezing." Stefan wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close so her back was pressed to his front.
"I was." Megan laughed softly. "I didn't realize it was that cold until I was out here." She faced forward again and snuggled back against him, feeling much better now that her boyfriend's strong arms were wrapped around her. There was silence until she let out a sigh.
Stefan rested his chin on top of her head. "Getting lost in your thoughts again?" he asked.
Megan gave a nod. "Yeah, I was just thinking about how life was so much similar back when me, Charlene, and Elena were younger, coming over to lake house and just…enjoying life. There's just a lot of memories here." She went quiet again, thinking about how she wanted to word what she was going to stay next. They never really talked about it before. Their future. She never what conversation that could come out of that. If or when she would become a vampire. "It made me think about our future…" she finally said. "You know, the memories that we'll make together."
Stefan said nothing for a moment. "I think there are a lot of conversations to be had about our future, about the kind of life we could have together." As in if she wanted to spend eternity with him as a vampire.
"Yeah…do we have to talk about it now?" Megan questioned quietly. "I don't think I'm ready for that conversation yet…"
"We can have that conversation whenever you're ready."
She didn't know if she would ever be ready. "Thank you…" she said softly. "I rather just stay in the here and now…with you." She closed her eyes as Stefan kissed her on the side of the head before he leaned into her ear.
"You know, this is a future memory." He said softly. "It's where your boyfriend whispered to you that he loved you." Then he whispered, "I love you."
"I love you too." Megan breathed, turning her head up to look up at Stefan with love in her eyes. He was the first one to lean in and kiss her and she easily returned it.
It was dinner time now, and Megan found herself sitting on the couch, watching Stefan prepare a romantic dinner for the both of them. Man, sitting here and watching him do this for her, she could just picture them in the far future doing exactly this. She could just see it.
"You know, I remember Elena and Charlene's dad would do all the cooking for us when we come here during the summers." Megan said, not voicing the actual thought she had out loud. She took a sip of wine out of the wine glass she had in her hand, smiling into it. "I always thought it was one of the sweetest things when I was a kid."
"And what did their mom do?"
"She would just watch him from the couch, drinking a glass of wine." Megan laughed as she held up her wine glass. "Their mom couldn't cook, which is definitely something Elena took after. So don't have her cook for you, trust me." This made Stefan laugh as he returned to chopping up vegetables. Megan giggled as her gaze went over to the fireplace only to see the embers were dying out. "Uh oh, looks like this fire is in need of more fire wood."
Stefan glanced over there himself. "Oh, yeah. I'll go get more wood." He stopped again and started towards Megan.
"No, no, I got it." She said, standing up from the couch. "Let me be of some use, at least." She pointed at him. "You just wait right here."
"But it's cold outside."
Megan placed her hands on his chest. "I'll just go get a jacket. I won't forget about it this time, promise." She did the cross my heart gesture and couldn't help but grin at the amused look on Stefan's face. She poked him in the cheek before she walked away from him with a wink.
Surprisingly, she remembered where her friend's parents' room was at. She went into the room and looked around. It was the same in here too. Her feet moved over to the dresser, picking up a bottle of perfume to smell it for a brief moment. She clearly remembered Miranda wearing this and her and Charlene fighting over who would get to wear it while Elena stood in the background, rolling her eyes at them. Megan couldn't help but giggle at the memory.
Feeling a presence, she looked up to find Stefan smiling softly at her. She blushed a little, wondering how long he had been standing there for. It made her remember what she had came in for in the first place.
"Oh right, jackets! Sorry got distracted again." Megan said as she headed over to the closet. "I guess I thought there wouldn't be this much stuff here. I guess Jenna hasn't came here yet to clear it out. I don't blame her though." She opened the closet door, turning on the light before grabbing a jacket off the hook. She tossed it over to Stefan. "Here you go."
Her boyfriend easily caught it and slipped it on. Megan whistled lowly at the sight as she put her hands on her hips, smirking at him.
"Well, don't you look hot." She teased.
He fixed the jacket to make sure it was on right. "You think?"
"Very." Megan smiled as Stefan made his way over to her and took her face into his hands, bringing her into a kiss. It didn't take her long to return it as she moaned softly into his mouth, her arms slowly making their way up and around his neck.
The kiss deepened as he picked her up in his arms and her legs easily wrapped around his waist. They backed up into the closet only for Stefan to press her against the nearest wall. Megan pulled back from the kiss but it wasn't to protest the fact they really shouldn't be doing this in her best friend's parents' bedroom but to give Stefan access to her neck so he could leave kisses down her skin. It made her glad she wore a shirt showing most of her neck, giving him easy access to it.
When he sucked on a certain part of her neck, her pulse point to be exact, Megan let out a groan as her hands hurriedly pushed the jacket off Stefan, already feeling hot and heavy down there. Something he always seemed to do. She managed to get it off and his shirt was going to be next, but he suddenly broke away, frowning.
"Stefan…" Megan whined a little, not seeing the frown at first in her sexual frustration. When she did see it though, she grew concerned. "What is it?" She asked him.
Not answering at first, Stefan rapped his knuckles against the wall. Megan watched as he did this, having to turn her head to do so.
"What is it?" She repeated her question.
"This is hallow inside."
"What?" Megan allowed Stefan to put her back down on her feet and she frowned. "Are you sure?" She wondered as she knocked on the wall too to check for herself. Sure, it was enough, it was. "Wow, they must be hiding something in there." She shared a look with Stefan before her boyfriend broke off one of the panels.
He removed the rest of it with ease. Just like Megan thought, there was a hidden door behind the wall.
"Yep! Definitely hiding something in there." Megan said. "Talk about a good hiding place." Her curious nature made her open up the door. She flicked the light on her and to her surprise, there was an arsenal of weaponry for hunting vampires.
"Oh my god." Megan didn't know why she was so shocked by this as it was common knowledge that the Gilberts were a part of the Founders Council, but she guessed seeing it first hand was a shock. She couldn't wait to tell Charlene and Elena about this.
When she saw Elijah the room she had seen him and Damon go in, Charlene quickly headed in that direction to make sure her boyfriend was okay. She discovered him holding onto his neck, his hand covered with blood.
"Day, what did you do?" Charlene sighed in exasperation.
"I didn't do anything, he attacked me." Damon protested. The look on his girlfriend's face almost made him admit the truth but he didn't.
Of course, Charlene didn't believe him. However, she just shook her head at him as she managed to find a wash cloth in one of the drawers. She wet it before going over to him, wiping the blood off his hand and his neck where he was apparently stabbed at. It was already healing thankfully.
"How about next time we don't irritate and provoke an Original?" Charlene gave him a pointed look.
He let out a sigh. "I just wanted to know what his game was. I mean, do you honestly think he's here to help us?"
"I really don't know." Charlene admitted to him. "But I'm going to trust Megan's judgement. It's never failed me before."
He didn't comment as she finished with cleaning him up, and she threw the rag away as it was too soaked to be salvaged.
"It's sweet your worried, but I'm sure everything will be okay." Charlene tried to reassure. She washed her hands before going back over to Damon, taking his hand. "Come on, let's get out of here. I've had enough Founder's stuff for one day."
Damon smirked at that. He pulled his hand away from his girlfriend and put his arms around her waist, bringing her close to his body.
"I forgot to tell you how hot you look in that dress." He purred. He reached up and tugged at the zipper at the back of her neck. "Makes me want to rip it off." This sentence was whispered huskily in her ear, making her shiver.
Charlene laughed throatily in response. "Down boy." She said, putting her hands on his chest. "Save it for the bedroom."
"What if I don't want to?" Damon asked mischievously. Before she could respond, he slowly started to unzip her dress while kissing her neck in that spot that drove her wild.
"Day…" Charlene groaned. "We can't do this in here, not with all those people out there." Though she protested, she titled her head back to give him more access.
"Oh come on, be a little dangerous for once, Charlie." Damon mumbled against her neck in between hot, intimate kisses on her skin. "Trust me, it'll be worth it." He got her zipper half down and he pushed part of her dress off to reveal some more of her body so he could leave kisses on the exposed skin. Going to her collarbone, he nipped at it.
Charlene moaned in response before quickly agreeing, "Okay…"
"Good." Damon unzipped the rest of the dress, causing it to pool at her feet. She stepped out of it and brought him into a heated kiss.
True to his word, it was worth it.
Still in the hidden room with Stefan, Megan made her way over to the bookshelf and pulled out a journal. Looking at the front of it, she recognized the similarities.
"Oh my god, it's another Johnathan Gilbert journal." Megan said in awe, starting to flip through the pages as she looked at the other books on the bookshelf. "I guess there was more of them, just like John said there was." She glanced back at the journal in her hand before getting lost in the words of Charlene and Elena's ancestor. She vaguely heard Stefan say he was going to go outside and get more firewood and that he would be back. Megan managed a nod before she started to read again, getting comfortable on the floor, her knees pulled up to her chest.
Eventually, she got bored of being in here and noticed that Stefan hadn't made it back yet. It couldn't take that long to gather up fire wood.
She went into the living area, immediately getting hit with the cold as the door was wide open. Just seeing this left a bad feeling in her gut, and Megan's eyes narrowed, her body tensing up a bit to prepare herself just in case.
"Stefan?" Megan called his name cautiously, thinking and hoping it was just her boyfriend. She doubted it though as she wouldn't be feeling this uneasy.
Not wanting to risk it, she didn't step closer to the door. However, it didn't stop her from saying something.
"Whoever you are, if you are here to kill me, I would suggest thinking it through." Megan waited for the person to say something in response. Instead, the person appeared behind her, and she immediately whirled around. Briefly, she recognized him as Brady, the one who had tortured Caroline. It was big mistake from him to come here. The anger of what he did to one of her best friend hit Megan immediately and she threw her arms up, giving him a hard hitting brain aneurysm that had him on his knees, screaming in agony. She didn't miss the look of surprise on his face though as if he had no idea she had magic.
Megan couldn't help but smirk. She knew she could kill him right then and there and if she was a bad person, she definitely would have, but she was, so she used her powers to toss Brady against the nearby wall before she took off running, knowing he wouldn't follow her. She knew though it wouldn't be long before he was after her again. As she ran, she wondered why he was here in the first place, but it hit her not long after the question entered her mind.
It was because of the sun and moon curse. He must have found out about her, Elena, and Charlene being doppelgangers and thought if he killed one of them, then the risk of the curse breaking wouldn't occur.
However, he obviously didn't know with Megan being a witch and Charlene being a vampire made that impossible. It was probably a good thing he didn't know.
Megan raced upstairs, going into one of the rooms, slamming the door shut behind her. She used her magic to lock the door to keep the man from coming in.
"I can smell you." She heard Brady's voice, making her know he was up now, and she cursed under her breath as she tore her jacket off her and onto the bed. Then she quickly and quietly unlocked the door before going across the hall and entering the room there. She shut it behind her and covered her mouth so Brady couldn't hear her breathing, especially since she sensed he was nearby.
She waited until he was in the room she was in previous and saw he was distracted with sniffing the jacket she had discarded. With that, she exited the room she was in and hurried along downstairs, going over to the front door only to slam it shut so he would think she had ran outside.
Megan ran back into Charlene and Elena's parents room and went into the secret room to grab a stake from the stack of weapons. She pressed herself against the small door and waited for Brady to make his way over to her. Once he did, she jumped out of the room, lifted the stake up, and slammed it into his shoulder, making him cry out in pain. She also used her powers to send him flying across the room and out through the front door, so he was outside now.
He fell to the hard ground, on his back, but hitting his shoulder just right where he screamed out in pain.
Megan went over to his body and hovered over him. Using one hand to hold him down with her magic, she used her other hand to roughly pull the stake out of his shoulder. Without hesitating, she staked him in the heart.
As she watched him grey out without any remorse in her eyes as he deserved what happened to him after hurting her and attacking her and torturing Caroline, Megan said coldly, "That was for Caroline."
"Megan!"
She turned at the sound of Stefan's voice and didn't hesitate to run over to him, allowing him to gather her in his eyes.
"Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." Megan caressed Stefan's face reassuringly. "I can take care of myself, you know." She said cheerfully.
Stefan looked relived to see she was her normal self, despite what he had just seen her do. Then he smiled, tightening his grip on her. Though he loved protecting her, it was nice to see she was able to hold her own.
Megan smiled too at the sight of her boyfriend's smile.
"Megan…"
When she turned her head at the sound of the familiar voice, Megan was surprised to see Tyler. "Tyler?"
He looked so remorseful. "I didn't know what they were going to do to you, Charlene, and Elena…" he said quietly. "I didn't. I just…I don't want to be like this anymore." He sounded like he was about to cry, and Megan's heart broke for him.
"Oh Tyler…" she said softly. She let go of Stefan to go over to Tyler and embraced him in her warm arms. "I know you don't. You're forgiven." As he buried his face into he shoulder, she tightened her grip on him as she looked back over at Stefan, who sighed in relief.
Charlene groaned in pain as she regained consciousness. It took her a moment to remember what had happened.
Jules and her band of werewolves had caught her, Damon, and Alaric off guard after returning back from the Historical Society party. They had knocked her out and killed Alaric.
Her eyes sought out to find Alaric, and he was still dead on the ground. Then her gaze found Damon, finding him chained down and bleeding around the neck because of the collar around his neck.
Jules was still there, and didn't seem to notice Charlene had woken up. Damon did though. The look in his eyes told her to stay quiet and to stay down.
Charlene listened and kept quiet as Jules spoke up from the spot where she was standing, leaning against a shot gun. The look on her face was cold.
"You know what the great thing about a shot buck is?" she asked, but it was rhetorical one as she didn't wait for an answer from Damon. "It scatters through the body. Maximum damage."
Damon looked at her, feigning interest. Jules lifted up the shot gun and pointed it at him. Charlene covered her hands over her mouth to keep herself from screaming at Jules not to do it.
"Where's the moonstone?" So that's what this was about. Charlene rolled her eyes. Damon definitely wasn't going to tell her of all people where it was, even if he was threatened.
"Get over it, honey." Damon said, "You're never gonna get it."
"You looking for this?" The voice of Elijah sounded, and everyone's attention turned to him, so Charlene figured it was safe to get up. Once she was up on her feet, she ran to Damon's aide. She didn't help him right away, interested in what Elijah was doing here.
Elijah, leaning against a banister, twirled the moonstone in his hand as he walked down the small stairs and placed the moonstone on an end table before backing away.
"Go ahead. Take it." Elijah gestured over to the moonstone.
One of the werewolves didn't hesitate in speeding over to the stone with his speed. However, Elijah was quicker than him and plunged his hand into the werewolves' chest pulling out his heart, causing the werewolf to fall to the floor. Dead.
Charlene's mouth dropped open at the sight.
Despite seeing this, two other werewolves rushed over at Elijah, but he ripped their hearts out as well, leaving them dead on the floor as well.
Elijah turned his attention to Jules, but she had already vamp speeded out of the room before he could do anything. So he paid his attention to the only werewolf in the room standing. As he walked over, the werewolf crouched down to the ground and covered his head with his jacket in fear. Elijah pulled him off the floor.
"What about you, sweetheart, hmm?" He asked, titling his head slightly. "You want to take a shot? Yes? No?" He didn't respond and Elijah looked over at Damon. "Where's the girl?"
"I don't know."
"It doesn't really matter." Elijah punched the werewolf in the face, and he fell to the floor. He went over to Damon and Charlene. "Allow me." He said to Charlene. She hesitated. "I'm not going to hurt him. Promise." He gave her a smile, and it was hard not to believe him, so she stepped away so he could remove the chains strapping Damon down on the chair. Then Elijah looked down at Damon. "So you realize this is the third time I've saved your life now?"
Damon didn't respond. Elijah turned around and grabbed the moonstone. Before he could leave, Charlene spoke up.
"Thank you." She said, causing Elijah's gaze to meet hers. He stared at her for a moment before giving a nod. With that, he left the room, leaving Charlene and Damon alone.
Back at the lake house, Megan entered the family where Stefan was still on the phone with Damon. She stayed quiet, not wanting to make herself known just yet.
Once he got off the phone, Stefan turned and didn't look surprised to see her standing there. He must have already sensed she was there.
"Good you're here…um, that was Damon." Stefan said. "We need to talk."
"Okay…what is it?"
"He learned that Elijah's planning to use Charlene and Elena for the sacrifice."
Megan was silent after he told her what she already knew. For a moment, she didn't want to admit to Stefan that she already knew about this, already knowing what his reaction would be, but she always told herself she wasn't ever going to lie to her boyfriend, and she wasn't going to start now.
She let out a sigh as she ran her fingers through her hair. "I know…" she admitted quietly. At the look of disbelief on Stefan's face, she continued, "I know the deal I made, Stefan. I never said anything about keeping them safe…or even me. Just our friends. If it was between me and my friends, I'd chose me every time…and Charlene and Elena would do the same…"
Stefan shook his head slowly, unable to believe what he was hearing. "So all of you knew, you wouldn't survive this."
"Yes." Megan said quietly. "Please don't be mad at me. I just…I just wanted to do the right thing.
"Do the right thing?! Doing the right thing would be not to sacrifice yourself."
"It would be between me and Bonnie! I'm not going to let my sister be used for this…for something that has nothing to do with her!" Megan argued.
Stefan said nothing for a moment. "Tell me this…" he started softly. "How could you stand out there with me and talk about our future when you knew you were going to allow yourself to be used as the witch for the sacrifice?"
"I…" Megan didn't know what to say. "But how is this any different from how you would do anything to protect me even die?"
"Because I've already lived. 162 I have lived, and you've barely begun, and now you want to let yourself and Charlene and Elena killed. That's not heroic. It's tragic."
"Stefan…" Megan tried to step forward, but he took a step back before shaking his head and brushing past her, lightly hitting her shoulder with his in the process. She watched him leave with a sad sigh. Well, this romantic weekend definitely was a bust.
She wondered how Charlene was doing...especially since Damon now knew she was planning on being the vampire for the sacrifice.
Charlene sat quietly on Damon's bed as she watched him pace back and forth with an angry look on his face. "Day...please. Just try to understand..." she finally said.
"Oh I understand perfectly!" he snapped sarcastically, throwing his arms up in the air. He turned around to face her and glared. "How could you do this Charlie?!"
"I...I just want to protect Caroline. I can't let her sacrifice herself for us."
"I don't care about Vampire Barbie! I'm not going to let you die, Charlene. I just got you and I'm not going to lose you, especially not to some stupid sacrifice!" He crossed over to her and grabbed onto her arms, his grip not gentle but it didn't hurt. "We'll find someone else."
"No. I don't want that either. I'm not going to live with the guilt of someone dying for something that has nothing to do with them. They don't deserve it, and you know that. Please don't ask that of me." Charlene reached up and grasped Damon's face in her hands. "I love you so much, and I love you that want to protect me from this, but you can't. No one can." She gave him a weak smile as she let go of his face and stepped back from him.
He allowed his hands to drop from her arms. "Well, I'm sure as hell going to try." He said stubbornly.
Charlene laughed softly. "I don't expect anything less." She moved forward and embraced him, burying her face into his chest. For a moment, she thought Damon wouldn't return the hug, knowing how mad he was at her. So when he finally wrapped his arms around her, pulled her close, and buried his face into her hair, Charlene smiled to herself and tightened her grip, closing her eyes.
