Thank you for the reviews. I know it's been a few months since I last updated, but I've been busy. School is taking up majority of my time, but I have a week's vacation, so plenty of time to write. Yay. I will say that I have a few ideas for some other stories regarding Spinelli and the Ashleys'. Now back to the reviews.
GDog: yes, you can certainly say that it's a taste of what her life will be like for the next month (or longer, if it pleases her parents). I doubt she'd see it that way, that she will get to keep her stuff.
Stephanie: I can reassure you, that the Ashley's will pop up in this story quite a lot. They can probably tell her grandma that they can keep her out of trouble but will of course have their own agenda. But the Ashleys' won't be the tutors. Sorry.
Now onto the story
Chapter 7: The tutor
Spinelli was still in shock over her new room. It looked like one of the Ashleys' had decorated it. And the clothes were all clothes the Ashleys' would wear. She didn't get much time to process what had happened while she was at school before her grandma called her down.
She wanted to focus on Spinelli's pageant training. It was everything that Spinelli could think, which included questionings, walking, talent. Spinelli felt like she was failing at it, but her grandma then told her. Nonsense. By the end of the month, you'll have perfected your pageant training, and then you'll come to see that it was for the best, the decision I made for you." That was what Spinelli feared that she would eventually lose touch of her actual self and begin to behave like an Ashley.
Eventually, the doorbell rang, and her grandma said. "Oh, that must be the tutor. Go open the door Ashley and greet them politely." Spinelli then did as told, and opened the door, only to find Menlo standing outside.
"Wait, Menlo, you're the tutor."
"Huh, Spinelli, didn't realize that you needed tutoring. But yes, I am the tutor."
Her grandma then showed up at the door and started speaking. "Ashley why aren't you inviting your tutor in." Aggie said, as she looked over to Menlo, before speaking. "You're Ashley's tutor. How nice. Come on in."
"Ashley. But you always go by Spinelli, and you usually don't dress that way." Menlo said, clearly confused.
"Yes, but I have decided to start using my first name now, so you can just call me Ashley from now on. As far as my clothes go, I guess I just decided it was time for a change." Spinelli said, knowing that her grandma was looking at her.
"Okay, well Ashely, should we get started. We have about an hour before I have to get going again." Menlo said, before he continued. "I guess you'll be joining the Ashleys' since you now dress like them. Okay, enough about them. Let's get started on your tutoring. Let's do English today, and then we can take math tomorrow."
"Sure, but I'm not really joining the Ashleys'. These clothes are just for the next month or so." Spinelli answered, hoping that her grandma hadn't heard Menlo speak of the Ashleys', which she of course had.
"Okay, well it's not really my place. I'm just here to tutor you. So, should we get started on English Ashley."
"Oh yeah, sure."
Eventually, the hour passed, and Menlo was leaving the house. As he was leaving, he said "Oh, and by the way, I think you look nice, if I'm not too out of line. I also think Ashley is a nice name.
Spinelli then closed the door, before sighing of relief. She had been forced to be on her best behavior throughout the day, and Menlo hadn't made it any easier. He certainly knew a lot about schoolwork.
Just as she had finished closing the door, her grandma appeared, and asked. "So, who are the Ashleys'."
"Oh, no one. Just a couple of girls at school."
"Then why did your tutor ask you if you were joining them."
"No reason."
"Ashley. No lies."
"Okay fine. They're just these girls at school, who have a clique based on their first name."
"Yet, you're not a part of that group, even though your name is also Ashley."
"I'm just not like those girls."
"How come."
"Because they're different from me."
"In what ways."
"In a way, where they like all these girly stuffs, that I have no interest in."
"So, they're feminine."
"I guess so."
"And well, you're also feminine now."
"I don't really know." Spinelli was afraid of where the conversation was headed.
"Well then, if they're also feminine, then they're probably entering the beauty pageant as well, which will mean that they'll be there for tea Saturday."
"Wait tea Saturday."
"Oh yeah, that's right. I forgot to tell you. Every Saturday and Sunday leading up to the pageant, there will be some activities for the girls to participate in."
"Oh." Was all Spinelli could say. That meant that it wasn't just a one-time thing. It was different activities, and if the Ashleys' were also joining the pageant, then she would be stuck with them, and she couldn't even act as herself.
"Yes, that means that if they're also entering the pageant, and if they're well-behaving young ladies, then it might be good for you to hang out with them. Okay, well let's go get started on making dinner, and then after dinner, we can continue your pageant training."
Yep. It was official. Her grandma was trying to turn her into an Ashley. Oh man, if the Ashleys' behaved as they always did in front of adults, then Spinelli would have to hang out with them, and use words such as 'like', 'totes' and 'scandalous. She shuddered at the thought. Imagine if her grandma was planning on staying for good, or wanting to take her in. Or worse, move to third street, and have Spinelli live with her, if her parents were away on business trips.
Meanwhile, Aggie thought that it was a shame she only had a month with the girl. That almost felt like it wasn't enough time to guide her in the right direction, so depending on how well Ashley behaved, it could determine whether she should move to third-street, or move in with Flo and Bob, and help them out with Ashley, or move to Third-street but have Ashley move on with her, or have Ashley move to where she lived. After all, the girl could barely cook a meal, or clean her own room.
Either way, they went on to make dinner, which once again consisted of something healthy. Eventually, her parents came home, and it was time for dinner. They then sat down, all four. After they had sat down, Flo asked Spinelli. "So, Ashley, how was your day at school."
"Oh, it was fine. Nothing eventful." Spinelli answered, not wanting to go into detail about her day.
"So, no one said anything about your new look. That's disappointing." Flo said.
All throughout dinner, Spinelli could feel her grandma's eyes on her, noticing whenever she would make a mistake, and she made plenty of mistakes, according to her grandma. During dinner, the adults would carry on conversations, with Flo occasionally trying to carry on a conversation with her daughter, but to no avail.
It had only been one day, and she was already tired of the training and pampering. She missed wrestling and fighting and missed her old clothes. She missed being able to get messy. She missed talking wrestling with her dad. But she just had to remind herself that after the pageant, then she could go back to her old self, even though her reputation would be destroyed.
After dinner, she was cleaning up the table, and doing the dishes, with the adults sitting in the living room, talking.
Flo then started talking. "So, mom, how has Ashley been today. For once, we haven't had to hear about her getting into trouble."
"Well, it's only been one day, so there's still a long way to go. But I believe that once the month is over, Ashley will have turned into a fine young lady, who will do her homework, and not get into trouble." Aggie said, clearly believing that she could turn her granddaughter into a presentable young lady.
"I just hope you're right about this Aggie, because it does seem a bit extreme, and Ashley was quite during dinner." Bob said.
"I am right Bob. It might seem extreme, but it's proving to be effective. The only reason she is quiet, is because she's just getting used to the changes in her life" Aggie said.
"Well mom, there is one other thing. If everything goes well, then we might have to ask you to let Ashley move in with you, because we might have to go away on business trips next month. It could mean a lot more money. We always have to say no, because we don't want to leave Ashley home alone, but you seem to have a good handle on her."
"You know. Let's take the next month, and after the pageant we can see if Ashley should move in with me or not."
Next chapter: the following week.
So, that's it for 7. Hope you all enjoyed it
