Sitting on his bed, curtain closed, Hiroshi thought about what had been announced that morning. A Cherryton student had just been murdered, and Hiroshi was considering the possibility that one of his roommates had been involved in the killing. As soon as the announcement had ended, Hiroshi had silently left, with no one following after him. The others probably knew how he felt, and knew that he wanted to be alone.
Hiroshi definitely knew that Legoshi had to be involved in the murder in some way. He had left during the middle of the night, and had come back looking afraid and paranoid. If he wasn't involved in the murder, he had definitely seen something that had frightened him, and what else could've frightened him but an herbivore being killed? At least, that was how it would work out in one of Hiroshi's detective novels.
But this isn't a mystery novel, this is real life.
Now Hiroshi really had to think about what had happened that morning, why Legoshi had left. Maybe it had been for an innocent reason, like going to retrieve an assignment, or something for drama club. Hiroshi wanted to believe these reasons, the ones that suggested Legoshi wasn't a killer, but he had to consider the darker possibilities.
Legoshi might've left to murder an herbivore, but why? Had he given into his instincts? And does this tie back to his peculiar absence on my first night here? And his strange staring that occurred yesterday?
Hiroshi covered his face with his hands and groaned.
Why am I even thinking about this? I should just let the police handle the investigation.
But Hiroshi could not stop thinking about what had just happened. In fact, he for some reason felt responsible for thinking about the case, if it involved Legoshi.
Or maybe I'm just too obsessed with mysteries and as soon as a real one occurs close by, I can't help but try to piece suspicious information together.
Hiroshi removed his hands from his face and looked at the Super Sleuth Francis book that still sat on his bed. He picked the novel up and held it in his hands.
It's strange, whenever I pick up a Super Sleuth Francis novel, I'm excited to see what the new mystery is. But now that I'm practically in a mystery, I'm terrified. Probably because the murder happened right inside this school.
Setting the book down, Hiroshi opened his bunk curtain and got out. He stood in the dorm room, the sun shining through the open window. The sun shined on Legoshi's bunk, making Hiroshi think about the gray wolf once again.
Should I start observing Legoshi's every move? Or am I simply being paranoid based on my interactions with the gray wolf?
Hiroshi stared at Legoshi's empty bunk, seeing the cute little drawing of the gray wolf above the bunk. As he stared, Hiroshi heard the door open, followed by his roommates.
"This is so horrible I mean…"
Jack stopped as soon as he saw Hiroshi standing in the room.
"Hiroshi! I was wondering where you went." Jack ran up to Hiroshi, a look of worry on his face.
"I'm sorry, I was shocked and didn't know what to do." Hiroshi looked down shamefully, even though he knew that no one was really mad at him.
"No it's fine," Jack said, taking a hold of Hiroshi's shoulder, "we're all shocked right now. I feel bad that it's only your third day here."
Hiroshi sighed and glanced at Legoshi, before quickly looking away. Legoshi looked like his normal self, having calmed down from his odd morning paranoia. The rest of his roommates all had looks of worry and confusion on their faces, no doubt from the unfortunate events that had been announced that morning.
Hiroshi's roommates stayed in the dorm for a short amount of time before departing. Jack and Legoshi however, stayed behind. The room was silent, with Jack trying to make occasional small talk that soon fell flat.
Legoshi eventually left to go talk with the drama club about what they would do for the upcoming performance, since one of their actors, Tem, had just been murdered. Hiroshi watched Legoshi as he walked off, before looking down at his knees. Hiroshi had a feeling that Jack was looking at him, possibly wanting to say something.
Looking up, Hiroshi saw that his feeling was correct. Jack continued to stare with his mouth slightly open before speaking.
"Are you alright? Well I guess you're not, we're all not okay right now. But you've just been really quiet."
Well someone did just get murdered, and I think one of my roommates had something to do with it, so, yeah, I'm not being that talkative.
Hiroshi did not let his internal annoyance show however, Jack was just concerned for him.
"I'm well, like you said, none of us are really good right now." Hiroshi looked up and gave a weak smile.
"Well, do you want to get something to eat? Sounds like a strange thing to say with what's going on, but maybe it will help."
Even though Hiroshi appreciated Jack's offer, he was in no mood to eat. He was still full from breakfast that morning.
"No, I'm not really that hungry, sorry."
"Oh it's fine, I wasn't really expecting you to be that hungry anyway." With a disappointed look on his face, Jack left the dorm room. His visible disappointment made Hiroshi feel bad about refusing his offer, but he had no appetite. Hiroshi wondered how Jack even had the urge to eat after hearing about a murder, but he attributed that to Jack's very upbeat and cheerful personality.
Jack's also not worrying about the possibility of his roommate being a murderer.
Now Hiroshi began to think about Legoshi again. He walked over to his backpack next to his bed, opened it, and pulled out his marine language notebook and a pen from his pencil case. He sat down on his bed and opened the notebook to a random blank page. Hiroshi proceeded to write down things about Legoshi that made him suspicious.
The way Legoshi stood by my bunk like he was making sure I was asleep. (Though he may have just smelled someone knew in his dorm and was examining my bunk for that reason)
Legoshi staring at me in marine language. (I hope this was just him spacing out and not realizing he was looking at me.)
Legoshi leaving our dorm the night before Tem's murder took place.
After five minutes, Hiroshi compiled three things that made him wary of Legoshi. He could rationalize the first two reasons, but the third was too suspicious to ignore. Legoshi leaves in the middle of the night, comes back in the morning, then an herbivore student turns up dead?
Hiroshi closed his notebook and sighed. I wish I could talk to someone about my suspicions. Everyone in this dorm is close with Legoshi, they'd definitely be offended if I told them that I thought their friend was a killer.
Wait!
Hiroshi perked up as he remembered someone he could potentially talk about his worries with.
Maybe I could talk with Ayame about my concerns, I think she'd listen.
Hiroshi stood up, and just as he was about to leave his dorm, he went back to his bed and put away his notebook and pen.
I don't think anyone would look in my notebook, but I'll put it away just in case. I don't want my roommates to confront me about thinking Legoshi had something to do with the murder.
After putting away his notebook, Hiroshi left the dorm and went down the stairs to find room 651.
