"Finnick and Taiya have kept up with their training more than any other tribute," Haymitch said shaking his head. "They'd both kill and die for each other. I'm serious Katniss, do not cross them. She's actually a very lovely young lady, friends with just about every victor there is, she'll be last on their kill list."

Effie Trinket, just another Capitol puppet. The Quarter Quell begins and it suddenly shows that Effie isn't as obsessed with the Capitol as it seemed. The revolution gets going and Effie, who came closer to Haymitch than she would have ever expected, has to figure out where her loyalties lie. And her time is running out.

If the last months had shown Beth anything it was that everything always was and nothing ever was as it seemed. Snow of course always had a plan, it was just a question of when it benefitted him to let other people in on it. Keeping things hidden from him on the other hand was never an option. At the very least that made otherwise boring meetings and dinners far more interesting.

Beth managed to survive the 72nd Hunger Games at 18. Sometimes she wished she hadn't. But deep down she had to admit that her life wasn't all that bad the way it turned out. There's but one problem with the Victor's mask. For it to work, the victor must have two essential things; haunting vivid memories and loved ones they would trade their lives to protect. One without the other is to no use. So when Olive Navin Cresta survives the 69th Hunger Games with no recollection of her time in the Arena, the mask gets destroyed before it's even placed.

Two choices: Live and die in District 12 like her parents or Run and hide for the rest of her life, leaving everything she has known behind including her only friends. Carina chose a third option and became someone else, abandoning who she was and promising to herself to never return to 12. She took her brother's hand and ran as far as she could, leaving 12 behind.
