Alexus' Point of View
When we arrived, I saw Aunt Bess, one of two women who lived with Joe and his mother, standing outside painting. "Hello, children. Myka is inside waiting for you," She greeted.
"Thanks, Aunt Bess," Joe smiled, and we went into the house where Aunt Myka, Joe's mother, was standing near the doorway.
"Alexus, it's good to see you. I saw your father at the funeral. Would I be correct in assuming that you are going to live with him?" Aunt Myka inquired.
"That's what he told me," I sighed.
"Things are going to be strange at first, but you'll get used to it. That reminds me! Dulcie, bring out the box!" Aunt Myka ordered. Aunt Dulcie, the other woman who lived with Joe and Aunt Myka, came into the room holding a large box. "This box contains letters that your mother wrote for you."
"Do I get to open one today?" I asked hopefully.
"They are yours, dear," Aunt Dulcie replied. I opened the box to find multiple envelopes. I picked up envelope number one and opened it. There were two pieces of paper inside. The first was a list of numbers, and the second was a letter. I read the letter's contents carefully.
My Dearest Alexus,
Hi sweetie. I hope that you are well. If everything went as I had hoped, your father is getting ready to take you to live with him. I have heard that he goes by the name of Xemnas now. Please be good for him. I know that it doesn't seem like it, but he loves you very much.
On the other piece of paper in this envelope, I have a schedule for you. Each number represents the number of days after my death. On these days, you will be permitted to open the next envelope. The schedule only contains the first twenty letters. With the twentieth letter, you will receive a schedule for the following twenty letters and so on. Please don't read the letters sooner than you're meant to.
Finally, never forget how much I love you. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me.
With all my love, Mama
When I looked up from my letter, Aunt Myka and my letter box were nowhere to be seen. I must have been too involved in reading my letter to notice what was happening around me. I turned to Joe. "Where did Aunt Myka go?" I asked.
"Mother is outside with your father," Joe replied.
"He's not my father," I huffed as I rushed outside. Mr. Xemnas was using one arm to hold my box of letters. I didn't like him touching my letter box, but it was too heavy for me to carry, so I allowed it. Aunt Myka was talking with him.
"Come here, Alexus." Aunt Myka said as I was about to go back inside. I walked over to Aunt Myka. "It's time for you to go. Don't worry about your things. I will make sure that Ralene doesn't step one foot in that house, and you can come back and visit. Okay?" She smiled.
Mr. Xemnas raised his free arm, and black tendrils came out of it. Those tendrils came together to make a big black oval. "What is that thing?!" I screamed, hiding behind Aunt Myka.
"It's called a dark corridor. It will take us to my home," Mr. Xemnas explained.
"Alexus, it's okay. Magic is nothing to be afraid of," Aunt Myka assured me.
"So then, magic is… real?" I asked, not even sure if I believed it or not despite the proof in front of me.
"Why don't you go and see for yourself," She said.
"But Aunt Myka, it's dark in there, and I don't like the dark," I whimpered.
"Will you be brave if you get ice cream when we get there?" Mr. Xemnas offered.
"Ice cream?!" I gasped. I was only able to have ice cream once a year at the fair. I didn't want to go with Mr. Xemnas, but I really wanted ice cream. Hesitantly, I walked up to the black oval and stuck my hand inside it. I was suddenly overcome by a wave of fear, but I wanted ice cream really badly. I stepped inside. My surroundings were completely dark. I turned around to see Mr. Xemnas with me, but I couldn't see Aunt Myka or her house anymore. My surroundings were all black. Mr. Xemnas took my hand. My brain was telling me to pull away, but I was so filled with fear that I couldn't bring myself to. Mr. Xemnas guided me through the darkness.
Well, it's been a long time. I'm truly hoping to get back to writing more constantly from now on. It's a shame that I stopped writing this so close to when I started. Also, for anyone who has been with me for a while, I intend to change my username soon. I wanted to let you guys know about that.
