Alexus's Point of View
I was woken up by a knock at my door. "Alexus, may I come in?" Mr. Vexen questioned.
I got out of bed and opened my door. "Hello," I greeted.
"Good afternoon. I was wondering if I could have a talk with you," Mr. Vexen explained.
"Yes, sir," I replied, stepping back to allow him to come into my room.
I was a bit uneasy as he entered my room. That was the first time Mr. Vexen wanted to talk with me. I knew it was about Zexion. When I thought about it, I had treated him poorly. "Zexion told me what happened. I thought I should apologize on his behalf," Mr. Vexen said.
"What? I'm not in trouble?" I asked.
"No. Even if I was upset with you, I don't have any authority to punish you in any way. I should have taught Zexion better. The boy is my responsibility. I'm sorry for his behavior," Mr. Vexen apologized.
I wasn't used to grown-ups apologizing to me. Especially when they hadn't done anything wrong. "He didn't do anything wrong, really. I overreacted. I shouldn't have left anything private out anyways. If anyone should be apologizing, it should be me," I assured him.
"I see. You won't tell your father about this ordeal, will you?" Mr. Vexen wondered.
It seemed strange that he would be so worried about what I would tell Mr. Xemnas until I remembered what Mr. Xemnas had said. "Do you think he would kill Zexion?" I shuddered.
"I'm not sure if that's quite the right word, but there may be some serious consequences nearly as equal. I'm unsure of what those consequences would be," Mr. Vexen stated.
"He will never know. You have my word. If you see Zexion, I would appreciate it if you could send Zexion my way. I would like to apologize to him about the incident," I requested.
"Of course. He is in my lab right now. I will retrieve him," Mr. Vexen agreed before he left my room.
I hadn't waited long when Zexion was at my door. "Vexen said you wanted to see me. I'm sorry about the thing with your mom's letter. I just get so curious and-" Zexion started.
"No, I shouldn't have yelled at you like that. I have been very stressed and tense since my mother's passing, but that's no excuse to yell at you," I interrupted.
"It didn't bother me. I don't have a h-" Zexion stopped mid-sentence.
"A what?" I asked.
"Nothing. Anyways, the point is that it didn't bother me. I guess we're not friends anymore, though, " Zexion questioned.
"Hey, of course, we can still be friends. Friends have fights sometimes," I assured him.
"They do?" Zexion questioned.
"Well, yeah. Don't you have fights with your friends sometimes?" I pointed out.
"I don't have any friends. I live here, and I'm not supposed to interact with others when I leave this world. We are the only intelligent life forms in this world," Zexion explained.
"Oh. That's so sad. Why can't you be friends with people in other worlds?" I wondered.
"It's complicated. Your father would be the person to ask about that," Zexion replied.
"Why is that? What is this place?" I inquired.
"Again, only questions your father can answer," Zexion stated.
"I don't want to ask him. I don't even know what he does, but you all seem to fear him, so it must be something unsavory," I mentioned.
"It's complicated," Zexion repeated. He started to sound like a broken record.
"I wish you could tell me. Everyone here seems afraid of telling me the truth. That's how I know that it's a terrible truth. Because everyone here is so afraid to say it," I sighed.
"This place does have terrible truths, but I can honestly say that your father is helping all of us. He is working for the good of the entire Organization," Zexion said.
"It would be a lot easier to believe that if I knew the truth," I commented.
"Maybe you should ask him. You don't have anything to worry about. You're not like us," Zexion prodded.
"That's easy for you to say. He already got angry with me once and almost sent me back to my aunt who would sell me," I pointed out.
"You're still here. That was probably an empty threat. I don't think he would actually send you away. Besides, you did kind of goad him into it. What did you think would happen?" Zexion reminded.
"I didn't goad him," I huffed. My thoughts went back to when Mr. Xemnas became angry with me. "Much."
"I heard all of it. It really sounded like you goaded him," Zexion pointed out.
"Okay, fine. Maybe more than a little. But still, I don't want to have anything to do with him," I sighed.
"That's your decision, but either way, he's the only person who will give you any straight answers," Zexion remarked.
"You're a lot of help," I scoffed.
"Would you rather I tell you everything and am later punished for my insubordination?" Zexion asked.
"Definitely not," I shuddered.
"Then you have a choice to make," Zexion replied.
"Yeah, okay. Zexion, is what no one allowed to tell me really horrible?" I wondered.
"Not really. Just shocking. He'll tell you eventually one way or another," Zexion answered.
"It's strange. I hope that day will never come, and yet it can't come soon enough. I'm terrified to know what it is that is being kept hidden from me, but I may grow sick with anticipation if I don't find out soon," I groaned.
"That's understandable. In the meantime, would you like to read with me? We were about to before I so rudely tampered with your belongings, and it was, to say the least, a disappointment," Zexion suggested.
"Yes. Let's read together," I agreed.
