Xemnas's Point of View

On the way back to Alexus's home, Alexus was apparently in a chatty mood because she began to talk to me. "Hey, could you explain to me again about that whole not being able to feel stuff?"

"I don't have a heart to feel emotions with. I am a Nobody, and my heart has become a Heartless," I replied.

"But if you got kicked, would you feel that?" Alexus wondered.

I couldn't help but chuckle at the strange question. "Yes. I feel physical pain."

"But you wouldn't get mad, right? Because you can't get mad?" Alexus mused.

"I'm beginning to wonder if you intend to kick me," I mentioned.

"I don't have any reason to. Would you get mad if I did?" Alexus questioned.

"Technically, no. However, I wouldn't like being kicked and therefore use reasonable measures to ensure that you would not kick me any longer," I answered.

"But if you're not angry, what difference does it mean to you? How can you not like something if you don't get mad or sad?" Alexus pointed out.

"Feeling emotions is not the same as liking or disliking something," I stated.

"I don't get it," Alexus sighed.

I had never prepared myself for a conversation like this, so I had to think hard about how to explain things in terms so simple that even a child could understand. "How about this. You like your friend, Joe, don't you?"

"Of course. He's my best friend," Alexus commented.

"Have you ever been mad at him?" I continued.

"Well, yes. What's that got to do with anything?" Alexus inquired.

"I'm getting there. When you were mad, you still liked Joe, didn't you?" I brought up.

"Yes. Being mad didn't change the fact that I liked him. I knew I wouldn't be mad forever," Alexus replied.

"And what can we conclude from these observations?" I prompted.

She took some time to think about it. "That you can like or dislike something even without a heart?" She guessed.

"Precisely. Also, do not kick me," I warned.

"I wasn't going to do it. I was just asking," Alexus grumbled. We continued to her home. I noticed that she seemed very at ease with me. It was a nice change of pace from being the target of her burning hatred.
