Chapter 4: Gray Analogy (1/2)
Council Room: Several hours after the Scroll of Seal's robbery.
Sarutobi Hiruzen was really getting too old for this. Not long after his surrogate grandson returned with the Scroll of Seals and it's robber, his fellow council members requested a meeting with him. He was aware of what the meeting was about. Two more were invited for this meeting, Morino Ibiki, who was in charge of the interrogation of Mizuki. And Umino Iruka, who was to inform them of Seiryu's performance in the exam.
"What are your reports Ibiki?" Hiruzen asked the master of interrogation.
"I must say, although I never really thought highly of Mizuki, his resistance to torture is very high." He answered.
"What could possibly lead such a fool to even think about doing something like that?" Koharu asked in confusion. "Even if by some miracle, he managed to escape with the scroll, he would never be able to use any Jutsu there."
"Exactly, Mizuki was just a Chūnin , and not even a particularly skilled one." This time it was Homura, the one who spoke. "He was definitely doing that under someone's orders."
"Of that, I'm certain. It was no mere coincidence that Seiryu was in that exact spot." Hiruzen spoke as he inhaled the smoke from his pipe.
"What do you mean?" Koharu asked in confusion.
Hiruzen then pulled a piece of paper from his table and gave it to Koharu, and she passed it to Homura after reading it. "Seiryu told me that someone sent it to his apartment two hours before Mizuki stole the scroll."
"You mean... whoever ordered Mizuki to steal the scroll of seals, was actually testing Seiryu?" Homura asked in doubt.
"It's a possibility, but nothing confirmed yet." Hiruzen told them as he puffed smoke out of his pipe. "Ibiki, please proceed with Mizuki's interrogation."
"As you wish Hokage," Ibiki bowed to Hiruzen, before leaving the council room.
"I must ask," Danzō, who has been quiet the whole conversation, finally spoke. Catching everyone's attention. "What was Senju Seiryu's opinion about the situation?" Danzō asked with his usual stoic expression.
"Seiryu complained about how poorly guarded, the scroll was." Hiruzen spoke with a bit of shame in his voice, as he admits that the scroll wasn't very guarded.
"Speaking of him, we requested Iruka's presence to get a report on Seiryu's performance at the exam." Homura added as he was the one that made the request.
Iruka, who felt a bit out of place in the conversation. Finally stepped forward. "Well... Seiryu achieved perfect scores in the exam, and was the one to receive the title of Rookie of the Year."
"We are already aware of that. What we would like to know exactly, is the part where he easily defeated Uchiha Sasuke in the Taijutsu test." Homura told him
"Y-Yes, well... Seiryu technically only used two attacks to defeat Sasuke, but..." Whatever Iruka was going to say was interrupted by Homura.
"And he also defeated a fully trained Chūnin with ease." Homura added.
Hiruzen knew this was coming, this meeting was never about Mizuki's attempt to steal the Scroll of Seals. It was about Senju Seiryu. "If you have something to say, please speak up Homura."
"I simply would like to suggest that we consider the next course of action regarding Senju Seiryu." Homura spoke while adjusting his glasses.
"What exactly do you mean by course of action?" Hiruzen already dislikes where this conversation is going.
"I think Homura simply wants to discuss what are we supposed to do regarding Seiryu." Koharu decided to act. "Iruka, could you inform us, what are the other Genin and the Sensei that were chosen to be on a team with Seiryu?" She asked Iruka.
"Umm... Since Seiryu was awarded Rookie of the year, he is to be put on a Team with the dead last and the top Kunoichi." Iruka explained, which should already be obvious. "The students who received the titles were Inuzuka Kiba and Haruno Sakura."
"That is the standard procedure, but I think we should consider a different approach." Homura presented the idea.
A silence in the room ensued after Homura said that, as no one spoke a word afterwards. Until the one that stayed quiet for a while finally decided to speak.
"I agree." Calling everyone's attention in the room was Danzō. "Clanless girls and Inuzuka would not really add anything to the boy's skills." Danzō added. "Unless Iruka has anything positive to say about the two." He looked at Iruka with cold eyes.
"Ahh..." Iruka was a bit intimidated by the Council member's gaze. "Well... Kiba is not exactly the best of students but-"
"And the girl?" Danzō asked without changing expression.
"Sakura is a very bright student with a lot of potential- '' He tried to say it until the Hokage spoke up.
"Well Iruka, Seiryu actually told me details of the test and he didn't exactly speak highly of her."
"What did he say?" Koharu asked him out of curiosity.
"He... called her... annoying fangirl." Hiruzen explained inhaling more smoke.
"Why would he call her that?" She asked Iruka with a stoic expression almost similar to Danzō.
"Sakura... has a... strong infatuation with Uchiha Sasuke. Which I have to admit, has caused a bit of distraction on her training." Iruka explained while scratching his head, as he actually lied. Sakura's infatuation with Sasuke has caused much more than just a bit of distraction.
"And you think putting a girl that allows a superficial infatuation with a boy to get in the way of her training on a team with the son of two legendary Sennin is a good idea?" It wasn't really a question, Koharu was just pointing it out. "What if this also gets in the way of her duties."
"Koharu is right, we should select other candidates." Homura added. "No offense to the Inuzuka Clan but the heir of the Senju Clan should be in a team that adds to his development."
Hiruzen puffed out the smoke from his pipe before speaking. "My friends, I really don't think that this type of special treatment will be beneficial to Seiryu in the long run." He tried to argue.
"He's not a common boy Hiruzen, just his Clan's name already puts the boy in a high position and not to mention that we're still not fully aware of his capabilities." Danzō spoke up to Hiruzen. As he himself thought that developing Seiryu's ability will be beneficial to the village in the long run.
Both Koharu and Homura nodded in agreement with Danzō.
Hiruzen knew that arguing with them was useless, so he decided to go along with them for now. "Okay, what do you all suggest then?"
Alright, one more time.
Senju Seiryu was standing outside of his apartment while it was still dark, trying to get the hang on the Jutsu that made his Godfather famous. But unfortunately it was easier said than done as he was actually having difficulty in performing it.
Put a seal inside his apartment on the front door. He made all the proper hand seals but... nothing happened.
Dammit! What am I doing wrong? Seiryu thought in frustration as he was actually doing all the necessary steps in great detail but the Jutsu still didn't work. He sighed in frustration. There's gotta be something I'm missing. He thought as he kept on for the Senju heir however, there was someone watching his attempts from afar.
What Jutsu is he trying to use? The one who was watching him was none other than Uchiha Sasuke who actually followed him since he returned from his meeting with the Hokage. Sasuke was still dumbfounded by how easily he was defeated by Senju Seiryu. He kept on observing him in order to discover his capabilities.
Okay, think, what exactly am I doing wrong? Seiryu took out his notepad to read the details that he wrote down one more time. He rereads the notes and finds something on it.
Anything that the user is holding, contacting, or that is linked with their chakra will teleport with them, but this requires additional chakra to do; particularly large objects can require so much chakra as to place a limit on how far away the user is able to teleport.
Wait? Could it be? Seiryu then put the note back on his belt and sat down in a meditation position and started to focus.
What is he doing? Sasuke asked himself as he wondered what was written on that notepad.
Seiryu took a deep breath with his eyes closed. He was concentrating his Chakra in the way his mother taught him. According to her, Seiryu's chakra reserves are the same as hers. So she taught him Chakra Control as soon as possible. After a few seconds of focus, Seiryu decided to try the Jutsu one more time.
But before that. He took off his gloves and shoes, and put them on the ground.
Then he prepared himself for a new attempt.
Sasuke was looking as Seiryu did the Seal of Confrontation while sitting on the ground. But in a split second, he was shocked and surprised. As Seiryu disappeared out of nowhere. What?! Where did he go?
Seiryu, who had his eyes closed when he did it, opens them to see. And to his delight he's sitting in front of the door where he placed the seal. "YES!" Seiryu yelled in pure joy as his theory was correct.
Sasuke then noticed that Seiryu was inside his apartment after hearing him yell. He saw him through the window and he only had one question. What was Jutsu?!
Although he was happy with his achievement, he was really tired and really wanted to get some sleep before the sun rose. He jumps out of the window to grab his gloves and shoes before entering through the window again. He closes the window of his apartment making Sasuke unable to see him before he takes off his clothes and goes to bed in his underwear. I wonder who is gonna be my sensei. He thought as he made a small research about the Jonin that might take that role. But his thought process was short as he was too sleepy to do any thinking right now.
Uchiha Sasuke also decided to go home and catch some shut eye as it was obvious that Seiryu went to sleep as well. I need to find out what Jutsu is. Sasuke thought as he jumped down from the roof and started to walk home.
Unfortunately, Seiryu's alarm went off a few hours later which made him hammer fist into pieces. He regretted right away because he just brought it.
He drank a glass of milk and a toast before leaving his apartment to go to the Academy.
The morning air is very pleasant. Seiryu thought as he slowly walked down the street. He was mostly wondering when his father would actually show up as he was still not aware of what this contact that he was meeting was about. But knowing his father, it was probably important.
He remembers some of his travels with his father. When his mother was in a good mood to allow it. I swear to every single existing deity that if you teach any of your perverted habits to my Sei-chan, I'm gonna finish off what I promised to do with you that day! Seiryu remembers his mother informing his father that, while closing her hand into a fist and his father cowering in fear while covering his manhood.
Seiryu chuckled at the memory, as he kept on walking towards the academy. He adjusted his headband, which he was still getting used to it as he was never much a headwear
"Hey Hinata, how are you today?"
It didn't took long for Seiryu to arrive and find his seat beside Hinata. He got there a little earlier and there weren't many around yet.
"I'm O-Okay, S-S-Seiryu." Hinata had become a little less nervous around Seiryu since she had gotten to know him better. It also helped that her father actually seemed pleased that she had befriended him and even encouraged her to become better friends with him.
For the next few minutes, the rest of the students entered the classroom as Seiryu and Hinata talked, all the while, not noticing the jealous glares at Hinata from about half the girls from the Class. As Seiryu was still unaware of his recently created fan club.
Suddenly, Uchiha Sasuke also entered the classroom and set his sight on Seiryu. Since he still couldn't understand what happened yesterday. He made his way to sit as close to the Senju heir as he could, hoping that he would mention the Jutsu that he used to Hinata. The seat in front of Seiryu's was the one that he chose.
"Hey." Seiryu and Hinata heard Kiba calling them while accompanied by Chõji and Shikamaru.
"Hey guys." Seiryu greeted him.
"H-hi '' Hinata also greeted them as she was still getting used to her friendship with them through Seiryu.
They all sat down close to them, and Kiba started to comment about Mizuki's attempt to steal the Scroll of Seals. Seiryu just sat there and pretended not to know much about it.
After a little while, Ino and Sakura came into the classroom at the same time. The two of them along with a few other girls in Sasuke's fan club, started to yell at each other to see who was going to get the seat besides Sasuke.
Sasuke however, could honestly not care less about that and had an urge to tell the annoying girls to shut up. Stupid fan-girls.
"Jeez, is it always like this?" Seiryu asked his friends. As the noise was actually annoying him.
"Yup, sometimes is worse." Kiba replied. Although he won't admit it, he actually wished that this many girls were after him. "The pink haired one and the blond are definitely the worse."
"It's kinda of obvious." Seiryu commented as he actually saw the two girls having a shoulder push contest to see who's gonna sit besides the Uchiha.
"Ino isn't so bad," Shikamaru actually commented as his and Chõji's clans have a special relationship with Ino's. "But she's still kind of annoying."
"Anyway, how long Iruka is gonna take? I wanna know who am I going to be on a team." Seiryu asked.
"Now that you mentioned, he is a little late." Shikamaru mentioned as he looked at the clock.
"Move it Ino pig, you're in the way of true love between my Sasuke and me," They heard Sakura speak out loud.
"You get out of my way oversized forehead!" Ino yelled in reply.
The five friends just looked at the fan-girls until Seiryu has enough of it. That's it. He then stood up from seat.
"What are you doing?" Kiba asked.
"Ending this." He replied as he walked towards the fan-girls.
His friends and the other students watch Seiryu closely, wondering if he was either very brave or very foolish or even a bit of both. As those that had tried to stand up to Sasuke's fan-club usually ended up visiting the Academy nurse. As he got closer to them, they were all expecting him to say something to them.
But instead. He stood in front of them but they were all too distracted in their arguing to notice him. Ironically, the cause of the argument actually noticed. What is he gonna do? Sasuke asked himself as he saw Seiryu standing in front of the annoying fan-girls.
Suddenly Seiryu slowly draws his Katana from his back, which made a lot of people wide their eyes in worry.
What the?! Kiba thought.
What the hell is he doing?! Shikamaru thought completely alarmed.
Chōji quickly closed his eyes in fear.
Hinata gasped and covered her mouth.
Sasuke prepared himself to attack him. As much as those girls annoyed him, this was too much.
All the other students were watching in worry as the fan-girls didn't seen to notice the boy aiming a sword at them.
Seiryu held his Katana up and strangely, an aura of chakra starts to surround their blade.
What? What is that? Sasuke thought as he watched Seiryu's Katana closely. Only to be even more shocked when the chakra aura actually sculpted itself turning the sword into an axe. WHAT?!
Finally, one of the fan-girls actually noticed Seiryu lifting what looked like at axe above his head and let out a loud scream. "AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!" Which call the attention of the other fan-girls that moved their gaze towards him.
Before the girls could say anything or let out another scream. Seiryu swings the axe down... At the chair besides Sasuke.
With a single slice, the seat was damaged. Making it impossible for anyone to sit on it. "Done." Seiryu spoke before lifting the axe . The chakra that turned his Katana into an axe dispersed and it was back to normal. Seiryu then tossed his Katana into the air and the pommel hit the sealing and it descends perfectly into the scabbard on Seiryu's back. He then walked back to his seat besides Hinata.
But unfortunately, everyone was staring at him with wide eyes wondering what just happened.
"W-wh-wha-wha,' Ironically, the one stuttering this time wasn't Hinata. "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT!?" Kiba asked out loud.
"Oh sorry, they were probably a bit too excessive but I really wanted them to stop yelling." Seiryu replied while scratching the back of his head.
"Excessive is understatement of what just did." Shikamaru added as he laid back on his chair.
Chõji nodded as he actually though that Seiryu was gonna use that axe on the girls.
Hinata was also worried but was instantly relieved when Seiryu just cutted the seat.
"But.. What was that?!" Kiba asked in complete curiosity.
"It's a... technique that my Kenjutsu master taught me." Seiryu responded. "Don't ask me the details because I made a vow not to tell anyone about the technique." He explained. The technique was called Samurai Sabre, and it's used by Samurais in the Land of Iron.
Before Kiba could say anything else. They all heard someone speak.
"How am I supposed to sit besides my Sasuke now?" Ino spoke, apparently not giving much thought on what Seiryu just did.
"Stupid Senju, standing between Sasuke and me." Sakura spoke afterwords.
It didn't took long for the fan-girls to start complaining about Seiryu, ruining their opportunity of sitting next to their "beloved Sasuke-kun".
And also, unknowingly causing several of his fan-girls to whisper about how strong and cool Seiryu was for what he just did.
While all of that happened, Sasuke just had more questions than ever . He had a Kenjutsu master, one strong enough to teach him how to do that? Just how strong is he? Sasuke thought as he observed Seiryu while he watched the annoying fan-girls complaining about him with a large sweat drop at the back of his head.
That situation lasted a bit longer until Iruka finally arrived at the class and told everyone to sit. Ironically, Iruka got there so late due to having to take care of everything now that Mizuki was gone, that he didn't even notice the seat that Seiryu destroyed. Once the class had been seated, with the Fan-girls taking the remaining seats.
Iruka explained to everyone the process and started to call out the teams, their numbers and what sensei's they had. Seiryu and his friends just waited to see which teams they'll end up.
I hope I get to be on a team with at least one of my new friends. Seiryu thought as he listened to Iruka.
Oh, let me be with Seiryu. Hinata thought, as she actually felt really comfortable around him.
What a drag. Shikamaru thought due to how slow the announcement was.
Chõji just eat a bag of cookies as he listened closely.
Akamaru is really sleepy today. Kiba thought as his pet dog is still sleeping peacefully on his hood.
A three men training squad huh? Must be my lucky day. Ino looked down at Sakura with confidence. "Well someone gotta be in Sasuke group, I wonder who."
Sakura turn her attention to Ino. "I don't know." CHA! I'M GONNA BE WITH SASUKE, SO STAY AWAY FROM HIM ,YOU HAG! The inner Sakura shouted.
Groups of three ,now that'll slow me down.' Sasuke thought.
"Next is Team Seven which will have," Iruka spoke up. "Senju Seiryu, Uchiha Sasuke,"
Dammit. Seiryu put his head down in disappointment. Although he had no real reason to like or dislike Sasuke, his brooding nature really annoys him.
"And Hyūga Hinata." Iruka finished.
Hinata silently gasp.
Oh, okay, that's definitely not that bad. Seiryu was instantly relieved. As he was afraid to be stuck with the arrogant jerk and one of his fan-girls. At least he would be spending time with Hinata, which was definitely good.
Yes! I'm with Seiryu, I can't believe it. Hinata was glad as she got what she wanted.
So I'm on the same team as a Hyuga and a Senju. Sasuke thought as he made a quick glace at the two who were sitting next to each other. I don't know much about Hyūga Hinata, only that her Clan took mine's place as the most powerful Clan on the village. Sasuke kept on observing the two. I actually got lucky, now I can discover the extent of Senju's abilities. He kept on observing until he heard something.
"I'm sorry I failed you Sasuke, but don't worry , we'll see each other again I promise." Sakura looked at Sasuke sobbing.
Can't this worthless fan-girl just leave me alone already. Sasuke didn't answer her as he was glad to be far away from his fan-girls. Another positive aspect is that Hinata wasn't an fan-girl and Sasuke could work with her, as long as she is not annoying towards him.
Iruka observed the newly formed team, remembering the details of yesterday. While most of teams selections were done in the standard fashion, this team was hand picked by the council. Sasuke was chosen by the council member Danzō, as he explained that a possible rivalry between the two would breed development as it would push the two to work harder. And strangely enough, the other two council members suggested on put Hinata on the team as it would put the three most powerful clans on the same team. Which the Hokage ended up agreeing with the choices.
After finishing his line of thought, he kept on the announcements. "Team Eight will have. Inuzuka Kiba , Aburame Shino and Haruno Sakura."
DAMMIT! WHY COULDN'T I BE WITH SASUKE!? WHY!? Inner Sakura yelled in agony.
"Seriously, the fan-girl and the bug guy." Kiba whined.
"Sorry friend, but I know you'll manage." Seiryu unsuccessfully tried to reassure Kiba.
"Is easy for you to say, you're the one in a team with a cute girl." Kiba spoke causing Hinata to blush at the compliment.
Seiryu smiled before replying. "Well... Sakura is cute too... when she's not talking."
"Hah! Yeah but, she only has eyes for the arrogant jerk over there." He answered while pointing at Sasuke.
"You're probably right."
Iruka then continued. "Team Ten will be, Nara Shikamaru, Akimichi Chōji and Yamanaka Ino."
What? Why?! Ino can't believe she had to be on a team with her dad's friends son's. She never liked them before or now. Why do I have to suffer my clan's tradition?
"Good grief." Shikamaru commented.
"Hey, at least we're on a team together." Chōji said as he finished his bag of cookies.
"Yeah... but Ino still annoying." Shikamaru stated.
"It could be worse," Seiryu spoke. "Imagine being stuck on a team with Sasuke and one of his fan-girls."
The three boys made a mental image of the situation and instantly disliked.
"I guess you're right." Shikamaru spoke. As the situation he just imagine was the full definition of troublesome.
After a few more minutes, the remaining teams were announced by Iruka. After which Iruka called the Jonin Sensei's that were waiting outside the classroom.
Kiba soon said goodbye to them as he went to join Kurenai and his new team.
Sakura attempted to say goodbye to Sasuke, who completely ignored her.
Kurenai asked Seiryu to look after Hinata. Which he replied with a smile and a thumbs up. She then left with her new team.
They were soon followed by Ino, Choji and Shikamaru and their new Sensei, Sarutobi Asuma who was the younger son of the Sandaime Hokage.
After a little while all the new Genin's except for team seven had left with their new Sensei's. Seiryu then started to wonder, as he actually made a bit of research on the Jonin Sensei's. He did saw all of them in the classroom except forone. Oh boy, it's probably him.
"Is e-everything alright?" Hinata asked him.
"Oh sorry, I was just thinking about our sensei." Seiryu replied. "It can only be Hatake Kakashi."
That ended up calling Sasuke's attention, as he was sitting far away from the two.
"Ku-kurenai mentioned him once." Hinata spoke as Kurenai told her a few stories of her time as a young Kunoichi.
"Apparently, he was one of my godfather's students." Seiryu explained. "And he's one of the best ninja in the village." Then he remembered a few other things on his research. "And apparently he has a reputation of being late." He added. His father had told him all about his godfather's former student, who was regularly late for appointments as a way for honouring another student of his, who died on a mission.
Note to self: Always arrive an hour or two later than whatever time his new Sensei said. He made a mental note on that.
"We better get comfortable because this gonna take a while." Seiryu informed his team. He then had a idea. "Hey, Hinata?"
"Y-Yes." Hinata stuttered like always.
"I'm gonna take a nap because I didn't sleep well last night, can you wake me up when he arrives?" He asked his new teammate.
"Ummm...Yes." Hinata agreed. He does look a little tired. She couldn't help but notice.
Two hours later:
After spending two hours paying his respects to the memorial stone, Hatake Kakashi finally decided to go and see his new students. Two of which, he was interested in meeting. As one was Uchiha Sasuke, the last Uchiha in Konoha. While the other was Senju Seiryu, son of Tsunade and Jiraiya of the Sannin. Naturally like everyone, Kakashi was stunned that Tsunade and Jiraiya had a child, and he was further surprised that he would be his Sensei.
Apparently, the council hand picked the members of this Team and The Hokage was the one that selected Kakashi. The Hokage explained to him that the council thought it would be the best for Seiryu's development as a ninja. While there was some complains by the other Sensei's due to the team being unbalanced, they were quickly shot down by the council.
Kakashi arrived at the classroom and slid the door open. To his surprise, he saw all three of them.
Uchiha Sasuke was staring at him with a stoic expression. Finally. Sasuke thought as he was tired of sitting down.
Hyūga Hinata was sitting there, watching the other boy sleeping. He looks so adorable like that. She thought as she was about to wake him up.
And last but not least, there was Senju Seiryu, sleeping deeply with his head on the table.
"Ummm...Se-seiryu." Hinata cooed on his ear. "The se-sensei is here." She cooed again while shaking him softly.
But unfortunately, he did not wake up. Instead, he grabbed Hinata into a hug and buried his face on her chest. "Just five more minutes, Mom." He spoke in a completely lazy voice as Hinata's face becomes unnaturally red.
Both Sasuke and Kakashi saw that with shocked expressions on their faces.
"Hmmm? Why is your chest smaller?" The still half-conscious Seiryu asked as his mother's chest was always large and soft. He pulled his head back and finally opened his eyes completely. Only to realize that it wasn't his mother's chest that he was using as a pillow. "AAAAHHHH!" He screamed before he fell off his seat and smashed the back of his head into the wooden floor.
Suddenly, the Senju heir was knocked out on the floor and Hinata looked like she was about to die of embarrassment.
Both the Uchiha heir and the Copy Ninja had very large sweat drops at the back of their head , with very different thoughts about the current situation.
How in the hell did I lose to that guy? Sasuke thought as he couldn't believe he lost to such an idiot.
This is probably gonna be a very interesting team. Kakashi thought as he actually found the entire scene hilarious.
Not long after the embarrassing incident in the classroom, the new team found themselves sitting besides each other at the roof of the academy.
Seiryu rapidly apologized to Hinata after what happened but she was still feeling painfully awkward about it.
"Okay, I think we should try to get to know each other better, so how about you each tell me your name, what you like, what you dislike, your dreams for the future and your hobbies." Their Sensei spoke sitting in front of them.
"Can you go first?" Seiryu asked, as the three already knew each other.
"Okay then." He accepted. "I'm Hatake Kakashi, things I like and things I hate...I don't feel like telling you that. My dreams for the future ...never really thought about it. As for my hobbies...I have lots of hobbies."
He literally just said his name. Seiryu thought while touching the back of his head that was still hurting a bit.
What's the point of asking then? Sasuke thought while frowning.
Kurenai did mentioned that he was secretive and cryptic as he didn't like people knowing too much about him. Hinata thought as she remembered Kurenai telling her about her friends once.
"His name is Hatake Kakashi, he is the only son of Hatake Sakumo, also known as the Konoha's White Fang. His likes my father's books, eating salt-broiled saury and miso soup with eggplant. He dislikes are traitors, those who turn their back on their comrades and abandon them, any fried or sweet food and being photographed without his mask. His hobbies are reading my father's booka and his dreams of the future are to write his own series of the books." Suddenly to everyone's shock, Seiryu started to tell all the details about Kakashi. Once he finished, both Sasuke and Hinata looked at him in surprise as he knew more about their Sensei than either of them did. But none of them was more surprised or to be more precise…stunned to hear all this than Kakashi himself. The only real sign of Kakashi showing his shock was the raised eyebrow from his one revealing eye which had slightly widen in surprise.
"Well... now... that was unexpected, but impressive." He praised him a bit. "May I ask, where you learned all this?" Kakashi asked in curiosity.
"Well... you send a lot of fan - mail with a lot of unnecessary information to my father." Seiryu spoke, remembering some of the strange fan-mail that my father would often receive. Hatake Kakashi was one of the more frequent.
Kakashi couldn't help but sigh as he did tend to get a little excited when he writes the fan-mail that Seiryu just mentioned. But he just couldn't help but demonstrate his passion for the Icha Icha Series. "Alright then, why don't you tell us about yourself now," Kakashi replied.
"Okay," Seiryu decided to start. "My name is Senju Seiryu. I like my family, friends, fighting, reading, training, making new friends, learning new techniques, gambling and a lot of other things that would take too long to list." When he finished listing his list of likes, they were kind of surprised by the last item he mentioned.
Did he said he liked gambling? Kakashi was wondering if he actually heard correctly.
"I dislike arrogant jerks, bullies, traitors, people that think they are better than they actually are and pretty much anyone who uses "the greater good" as excuse for their actions." When he finished listing his dislikes, they were surprised with the last part as well. For different reasons.
You'll be surprised how many use it as a excuse. Kakashi couldn't help but agree with the Senju heir as he did saw a lot of people use it as an excuse.
If you gonna do something, do it and don't dwell on it or make excuses. Sasuke thought, actually agreeing with what he said.
Hinata just stayed quiet.
"My hobbies are reading, training, learning new techniques, gambling, talk to pretty girls, collect souvenirs, play ocarina, explore and pretty much anything that can be considered fun."
I guess he got his father's talent with woman. Kakashi thought, not knowing that Jiraiya had no talent whatsoever with woman.
He didn't mentioned that he played ocarina. Hinata thought, wondering if he's a good player.
Waste of time. Sasuke thought as he thought most of those things were stupid distractions.
"My Dream is to become a God of Shinobi like my great-grandfather and rebuild my clan to it's former glory." He spoke with a lot of confidence.
After hearing this, Kakashi had to admit that Seiryu certainly didn't dream small, considering what he wanted to do. Not to mention he could very well rebuild the Senju Clan in Konoha, which was something many people were hoping he would do one day. But still, it would take a lot of time before Seiryu would even have a chance to become what he wants to be but only time will tell if he can.
"Right. Next, the girl." Kakashi this time told Hinata.
Hinata gasped out of slight surprise, Kakashi and Seiryu's attention were now on her. She could feel the adrenaline pumping through her veins, most of her body telling her to faint and let it all be over, thankfully, her heart and brain were the loyal parts.
"W-Well...my name is Hyuga Hinata. What I like is…" Hinata paused as her began to flush tomato red. "My younger sister. I-I also like zenzai and cinnamon rolls. I...dislike people who treat others poorly, being a burden and the harsh ways of my clan. My hobby is p-pressing flowers." She decided. "My dream…is to one day change the ways of my clan and find a way to abolish the curse seal that has been tainting the branch family for so long." She had truly meant it. After all, she was right there when her cousin Neji had the curse mark inflicted upon him. Although he was acting very cruel towards her that day, she couldn't help but feel sorry for him.
"Finally, I wish to become stronger so I can change, so I can be worthy enough to be acknowledged by my father, so I can be strong yet kind, just like my mother!" For some reason, when talking about her dreams, she found that she didn't stumble or stutter once. Now that's got to be worth some praise considering how socially awkward Hinata usually is.
Strong dream. I'm glad to be on a team with her, it has to be better than being on a team with someone who's solo purpose is to chase after Sasuke. Seiyru thought as he smiled at her, only for her to notice and her face to turn red due to remembering what happened in the classroom before.
"Last one." Kakashi referred to Sasuke.
Bored eyes, curious eyes, and uncaring eyes found themselves on Sasuke.
"My name is Uchiha Sasuke." The boy spoke with a cold stoic voice. "There are many things that I hate, and I don't particularly like anything."
Suddenly, the entire atmosphere around them went cold with killing intent erupting off of the only survivor of the Uchiha Massacre.
"What I have is not a dream, but rather an ambition, because I will make it a reality. What I desire is...the revival of my clan, and to kill a certain someone."
Silence.
Hinata shivered in place due to the killing intent leaking off of Sasuke's body.
By certain someone, he definitely means his brother. Seiryu thought as he observed.
Just as I thought. So, I'm working with a boy who aims high but is overconfident, a girl who has good intentions but is shy and doesn't seem fit for the cruel work of a Shinobi, and then the other boy sounds like your typical avenger. Kakashi let out a quiet sigh which the Genin didn't hear. "Alright, the three of you all have unique personalities. I like that. We're going to begin a mission starting tomorrow." Kakashi informed the Genin.
"Isn't the Hokage the one who gives out the missions?" Seiryu questioned with a confused look.
"Well... yes but...first, we're going to do something that the four of us can do."
"What is it?" Seiryu questioned Kakashi even further, wanting to know what this mission was.
"Survival training." Kakashi answered.
"Survival training?" Seiryu repeated out of confusion.
"Also, another thing, this 'training' is a test." Kakashi added.
"I was just waiting for that. There's no way you become a full Genin just by passing a written exam and some small test." Seiryu added as well.
This caused Hinata to blush slightly as she actually did thought that was it.
"Correct. Out of the 27 graduates, only nine are going to actually become Genin. The other 18 will be sent back to the Academy. In other words, the chance you guys have of passing this test is 33%." Looks of shock appeared on the Genin's faces, even Sasuke was surprised.
"Is that statistic legit or you just made that up?" Seiryu couldn't help but ask as the number looked too specific. With Sasuke and Hinata wondering now well.
A small sweat drop came on the back of Kakashi's head as that number was indeed made up. "Anyways, I'm going to determine whether you are worthy enough to move onto being a true Genin. Bring your ninja equipment and meet at 5 A.M at Training Ground 3 and don't eat breakfast as you just throw it up during the test." Kakashi spoke disregarding Seiryu's question, after which he saluted the three and then with a proof of smoke, Kakashi teleported away without bothering to answer the question.
The three didn't had time to say anything else to their new Sensei and each ended uo formulating an opinion about him.
Umm... kind of strange but... my father isn't exactly normal either. Seiryu thought as he was actually used to having this sort of teachers.
Is this guy supposed to be joke? Sasuke thought as someone like that couldn't possibly be a competent Sensei.
Kurenai said that Kakashi was strong and I believe her. Hinata thought as she actually heard a lot of positive things from Kurenai.
After that, Sasuke stood up and walked away without even bothering to speak with Seiryu and Hinata.
"See you tomorrow." Seiryu decide to say goodbye but to no answer.
Now both Seiryu and Hinata were alone in there. And the two were still a bit awkward towards each other. "Ummn... I'm really sorry again." Seiryu apologized one more time.
"It - It's O-Okay. .. I... kno - know you didn't do it on purpose." Hinata reassured him still a bit awkward about it.
A short silence ensured, before Seiryu broke it. "Ummmm... you wanna... come to Ichiraku with me... I'll pay it for you as an apology."
"Ummm... you... do - don't have to." Hinata tried to deny it. "But we c-can go."
Seiryu smiled and stood up from his seat. "Let's go then." He called her.
She stood up and followed him.
Thanks everyone for reading my story.
Sorry for the long delay, my computer broke and I'm reduced to write on my phone which is both tedious and time consuming. (Grammatical errors will probably be high.)
If you have any questions, feel free to message or write it on the review.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year for everyone.
