GARRETT MOORE'S OFFICE
Lt. Gormley followed Garrett into his office after the press conference.
After he entered, Garrett motioned for him to shut the door.
Sid complied and then sat down across from Garrett.
"Sid, does it seem like the Commissioner is acting strange to you at all these last few days?"
Sid paused. He wanted to select his words very carefully, "Uh, what do you mean, Garrett?"
Garrett paced around the office, "I don't know, he just seems different is all. Happier?!" He looked puzzled.
"Like when I wrote his speech, normally he would always ask for revisions. He just accepted it and graciously thanked me for it!"
Sid played aloof, "Well I dunno, maybe he's just in a good mood…"
Garrett scratched his head, "No, there's something up. It's more than just a good mood. He's been relatively…" he scanned the air looking for the right words, "Relatively easy to get along with."
"Isn't that a good thing?" Sid questioned him.
"Well yeah of course! But it's not the Commissioner. I think I should have a chat with him –"
"NO!" Sid stood up blocking the doorway.
Garrett looked taken aback. "What? Why not?"
Sid tried frantically to come up with an excuse, "Well uh the Baaass is uh gonna be busy for awhile. He said um, don't disturb him" Sid looked down at the floor hoping Garrett couldn't see the desperation in his eyes to keep him from going to talk to the Commissioner.
"He always says that!" Garrett retorted. "And we just barge in there anyway when it's important. Which this is. Now outta my way, Sid. I'm going upstairs to have a little chat with him."
Sid didn't move from the doorway.
Garrett put his hands on his hips. "Sid, come on! You know as well as I do something is off. And it's our job…nay, our duty to know if there's something up with the Commissioner."
"Oh boy," Sid sighed as he ever so slowly moved away from the door.
Garrett had to almost push him out of the way to get by.
"WAIT!" Sid said suddenly. "Maybe he won the lottery?'' He threw a Hail Mary kind of pass at an attempt to stall Garrett further.
Garrett gave him a look as if Lt. Gormley had literally just lost his mind in his office that moment.
"Sid, I really wonder about you sometimes," he muttered, shaking his head, as he exited the office to head up to the Commissioner's floor.
"Oh geez, here we go," Sid threw his hands up in the air and followed DCPI Moore. "I'm sorry Abigail," he said under his breath as they rushed down the hall to the elevators.
