AFTER DINNER

My only weakness

You know all my secrets

I can't stop loving you (I can't stop loving you)

Your kiss is the sweetest

You look like magic

One touch and I've had it

I can't stop wanting you (I can't stop wanting you)

Knox Brown x Gallant "Reignite"

After their delicious pork chop dinner The Commissioner insisted on taking Baker home.

She had been quiet all dinner and seemed withdrawn.

"Sir, you don't have to accompany us. Your security detail will take care of me. I trust Jim."

"As do I. But I'm still going with you."

She looked like she wanted to argue with him but she let it go at that.

They got Sid and Garrett dropped off and then pulled up to her apartment building in Queens.

She had been morosely staring out the window the whole ride and not speaking.

When the Ford Excursion pulled up, she quickly jumped out the passenger side not giving him any time to come around and open the door for her.

"Hey!" he called out as she half-stumbled out in her pencil skirt and onto the sidewalk. "Jim, give me a minute," he called out behind him.

"No problem Boss."

He caught up with her halfway up the walkway grabbing her arm by the elbow.

"Abigail, hold on a minute." he said firmly.

Abigail obeyed and stopped trying to run off. She wouldn't meet his eyes though and looked away into the night.

A soft rain had begun to fall and at first he thought her cheek was misty from it.

But he raised a hand to her face, gently turning her to meet his eyes. And he realized under the streetlight that it was tears shining in her glassy blue eyes.

"Hey…" he said softly. "What's this?" His calm eyes searched hers and Abigail felt like collapsing.

I can't keep anything from him. I don't know why I even try. She thought.

"It's just felt so overwhelming. All of this sneaking around, being found out, being embarrassed, today's fun events at 1PP…" she said sarcastically as her voice got choked up.

The protective cop in him rose up and he drew her in close for an embrace. She wrapped her arms around him tightly and he sensed that she really needed this.

Baker put up a tough front. But a part of him was secretly glad that she needed him in a sense. That she wasn't too proud to let her guard down once in awhile.

He smoothed her soft blond hair as he tucked her under his chin.

After a moment he pulled away and moved in to kiss her tenderly on the lips.

He's so gentle with me at times…Abigail thought dizzily as his kiss made her feel lightheaded.

"Invite me in," he murmured as he pulled away.

"What?" she asked confused.

"I won't stay long. I just wanted to talk with you." He looked down at her in such a caring way she couldn't refuse him.

"Oo-ok" she said shakily as she wiped her tears with the back of her hand.

He waved at Jim to signal he was going inside and Jim nodded as he got back into the vehicle.

Inside her apartment she gestured for him to sit on her comfortable and plush white leather couch. She offered to take his suitjacket as he sat down.

"Would you like a glass of red?" she called from the kitchen.

Frank shifted in his seat about to decline when he changed his mind. "Yeah, why not."

She came back with two full wine glasses and took a sip.

She had kicked off her heels when they came in and Frank couldn't help admiring how sexy she looked with her legs tucked under her as she sat down next to him.

"Abigail, I love you..and I know it's been hard. I want to make this work. But only if you do," he put it out there and took a sip of from his glass of wine.

Abigail paused as her still shimmering eyes looked at him directly.

"Yes Sir, I do." she answered him out of habit in a formal tone.

He put his wine glass down on her coffee table and laid his arm across the back of her couch. She took it as a signal and put her own glass down then slid up next to him.

He brought her in close and Abigail was intensely aware that this was the first time they had been really alone. No one was going to barge in on them in her apartment.

Her eyes closed with contentment as she leaned her head on his chest, her face against his vest and shirt. Breathing him in was intoxicating.

They had yet to share these kind of moments together. Rather it had been more of stolen kisses and passionate embraces in circumstances that left them vulnerable to being discovered.

She sighed happily and Frank Reagan looked down at her.

God, I'm so in love with this woman he thought as he saw how peaceful she looked in his arms.

Her eyes flickered open as if she had felt the wave of love directed at her.

He gave her a warming smile and she felt lightheaded again. Her mouth went dry and her heart seemed to stop beating altogether.

Suddenly his face was inches from hers and she felt her breath catch in her throat.

And in typical fashion whenever they were close together the room cranked up to 100 degrees.

Frank's tie was disheveled, his white dress shirt unbuttoned at the top, his oceanic eyes burned with desire and Abigail thought he's never looked hotter.

She moved in first and closed the gap meeting his mouth with hers.

He responded, kissing her back tenderly, remembering how sensitive she had been just moments earlier.

But Abigail deepened the kiss, wrapping her arms around his neck.

She shifted on the couch bringing him down towards her and his hands roamed her firm figure.

"Frank…" she murmured.

"Yeah…" he replied huskily as he kissed her neck.

"I love you too."

He chuckled as they enjoyed each others embrace for a few moments.

Suddenly Frank groaned as if he was in pain.

Abigail pulled away and noticed the grimace on his face.

"Are you ok?"

"Yeah uh…it's my back. All those tackles as a police officer. Not as young and spry as I used to be," he laughed gently.

Abigail slid away so he could sit upright. Without thinking she moved behind him so that she was up against his back. She began massaging the center of his back.

She felt the Commissioner tense up for a moment as she touched him and then he relaxed.

"Where does it hurt?" she asked quietly.

"My lower back," he responded and as she moved her hands there he closed his eyes peacefully.

"You have so much on your plate. It's a wonder to me how well functioning you are," Abigail admired him aloud as she continued putting pressure on his lower back.

He turned slightly so he could look her in the face, "Thank you Abigail." His voice spoke with tenderness and surprise.

He was so used to the opposite of a compliment. Being the scapegoat. The blame for the entire NYPD.

She smiled shyly at him and Frank noticed the pink that lit up her cheeks.

She pulled away from him and slid down on the couch.

The hour was getting late and Abigail sensed that maybe it was best they part ways now.

Frank Reagan set off sensations for her physically that maybe she wasn't totally prepared to go all in for yet.

Frank stood and his commanding 6'4" presence dominated her apartment.

He could read Abigail like a book most of the time and he felt her energy shift.

Truth be told he wasn't ready for more yet himself.

The one time he had opened himself up to a woman after Mary, she had betrayed his trust. He had since pretty much kept himself busy with his career and his family. A significant woman was not a part of it.

Not until now.

Det. Abigail Baker was different. Like a treasured pearl. He would respect her in every way.

"I uh better get going before Jim gets worried," he said and extended a hand down to her to help her up.

She grasped his large strong hand and gasped as he easily pulled her up off the couch with one arm.

She looked up at him impressively and gave him a nod.

He felt pretty pleased with himself thinking Some days I've still got it.

He kissed her tenderly at the door and as he began to pull away, she wrapped her arms around his neck in a hug.

Tightly. Firmly.

God it's hard to leave now, he thought as he held her in his arms feeling her need for him.

She pulled away finally and he tried to read her expression but couldn't.

He thought he saw a flicker in her eyes for a brief moment.

Hunger? Desire? But there was something else there and he thought perhaps it was a touch of fear.

Things had been moving pretty fast between them and if she was afraid of getting hurt he could more than understand that.

"Hey," he said softly in the voice he seemed to reserve just for her. "I'm always going to be here for you."

This reassurance soothed her and he could see her eyes relax and warm to him.

She grinned up at him, "I know. Good night, Commissioner."

He smiled back at her, his eyes laughing, "Good night, Baker."

He slipped out into the night with her on his mind.

OK, I promised to share my personal story…so over the weekend it was actor Robert Clohessy's birthday (he plays Lt. Sid Gormley on the show) I sent him a birthday DM on Instagram. I also told him that my husband and I love watching his character on the show and we go around all the time saying "Baaaws" like how he says it to the Commissioner LOL.
