A/N: I have always thought it would be nice to see a scene between The Commissioner and his head of security, Jim. Hope you enjoy this little scene!

THE NEXT MORNING

"I will always love you

I will always be by your side

I will always love you

Come what may

I will always love you…"

"Morning Boss," Jim greeted the Commissioner as slid into the backseat of his black Ford Excursion detail.

"Thanks Jim," he said as he took off his PC cap. He was planning a visit to the 1 2 this morning so he decided to don his PC cap and jacket over his customary three-piece suit.

They drove in silence through the streets of New York City morning traffic.

The Commissioner was thinking of Abigail.

Of course.

He still loved his job on most days but without Abigail there at his side it had lost something.

Meaning. Purpose.

He knew she would be back soon but the days seemed to be dragging endlessly on.

He sighed morosely as he gazed out the rear passenger window.

Jim looked at him in the rearview mirror as they pulled up to a traffic light.

"Hey Boss, you ok?"

It took Frank a moment to respond and untangle himself from his deep thoughts.

"Hm? Oh, yes I'm ok…" he trailed off feeling a sense of loneliness overtake him as he realized he would be back in his office in a couple hours and there would be no Abigail there.

"Permission to speak frankly, Sir?"

The Commissioner was taken aback. Jim was a quiet man. Very reserved. If he had something to say it was going to be important.

Frank leaned forward in his seat. "Yes, please."

"You seem off, Sir. And my guess is it has to do with a certain person. A woman…" This time Jim trailed off as he kept his gaze in the rearview looking for confirmation to continue.

The Commissioner nodded, giving him the approval to go ahead.

"Look, it's none of my business but when Det. Baker is around, you seem happy. Really happy," he added.

Frank realized he had made no pretenses in front of Jim the night he had gone into Abigail's apartment. Kissing her on the sidewalk, Jim was sure to have seen that.

"And she's been by your side for a really long time, Boss."

Frank was again reminded of how long Abigail had been in his life. Nine freaking years. And how they had not been apart for a length of time like this other than a sick day really.

He sighed and turned his gaze out the window, "God I miss her," he said aloud what he had been feeling all week.

Jim nodded empathetically.

"The situation is just…it's a bit complicated," The Commissioner turned his attention back to Jim as he drove.

"Is it?" Jim asked quietly and it hung in the air.

The wisest ask the deepest questions of us. Forcing us to answer what we would rather leave unanswered.

Frank paused and pretty soon he was lost in his thoughts again as they headed to the 1 2 precinct.
