I don't own anything except my OC Sam.
Sam's POV
Waiting… waiting… and more waiting! That's how bored I am right now. Merlin and I are at the Main Square next to the Water Tunnel 'waiting patiently' for Morgana and Arthur to show up.
"How long does it take for Morgana to bring the prat down here? It's been almost an hour," I complained as I kicked a pebble.
"You just need patience Sam," murmured Merlin, as he continued to look for Morgana and Arthur.
"Yeah, I'm not the most patient person in the world," I sarcastically said.
I looked up when I heard some footsteps walking towards us. I sighed and was relieved to see that Morgana walked up with Arthur following behind her. Arthur looked a little shocked to see me, but became composed quickly as he drew out his sword. As Merlin unlocked the Water Tunnel door, Arthur and Morgana both grabbed a lighted torch and we descended down into the tunnel.
As we continued to walk down slowly down the tunnel, Arthur looked at Merlin and said, "You'd better be right about this, Merlin."
Before Merlin could reply or defend himself, we all suddenly stopped when we heard a low growl. Morgana quickly gasped and grabbed onto my hand. I hissed in pain when Morgana accidently squeezed my hand too tightly. Morgana quietly apologized and released my numb hand.
"You two should stay here," said the prince.
Wait a flipping minute! He did not just say what I think he said?
"Excuse me," I scoffed as I crossed my arms.
Morgana agreed with me as she stated, "I'm coming with you." Arthur still refused, however what Morgana said next almost made me laugh so hard. "Scared we will show you up?"
"Father will slam us both in chains if he knew I'd endangered you."
"Well good thing he doesn't know about it then, right Sam," asked Morgana.
"That's right Morgana," I said with a smirk on my face.
Arthur was not pleased at all and he got right into Morgana's face. "I'm telling you, Morgana, turn back. Both you and Sam get out of here. You could get hurt."
My eyebrow twitched when I realized what he was implying. "Are you saying that because we are girls?"
"Yes," corrected Mr. Ego Prince.
I looked at Merlin to see him closing his eyes and he realized Arthur should have never said that. I sighed as I looked over at Morgana.
"I think he has forgotten that I kicked his butt the first time I met him." I sweetly looked back at Arthur and said, "You do remember that I am a girl who defeated you, right your highness? So unless you want another reminder, I suggest you let Morgana and I stay."
Both Merlin and Morgana were amused while Arthur sighed and rolled his eyes with frustration. He decided not to argue with me and let us come along.
As we continued to walk down the tunnel, Morgana asked quietly, "How are we going to find it?"
"I just hope we do before it finds us," replied Merlin.
I was about to say something, when Arthur spun around and said, "Stop."
"What, what is it," I asked.
"It's just a shadow." I felt a sigh of relief before we continued to saunter down in the tunnel. We finally reached the water source, before Arthur said, "Spread out."
As we spilt up, something in the back of my mind told me this was a bad idea.
3rd POV
A few seconds to a minute after everyone separated, Arthur heard a growl right behind him. He turned quickly to see the Afanc swiped at him and then disappeared, like it wasn't even there. Morgana and Merlin rushed over to the prince as he was catching his breath.
"What is it? Are you alright," she asked Arthur.
"Yeah."
"Did you see it," the wizard asked the prince.
"Yes."
"What did it look like," asked Merlin as he looked around.
"It-it's quick." Arthur stopped as looked back at the group, realizing something was missing. "Wait, where is Sam?"
Sam's POV
"Great, just great. The one place to get lost and it had to be in this episode," I mumbled as I continued to walked down the tunnel.
Thank God I have magic, because I would not see a single thing. I was able to find an unlit torch on the wall and I pulled it out. As I looked at the top of the torch, my eyes became hot and I lit the torch and it was consumed by flame. I was about to step forward, when I heard a low growl behind me.
I took a deep breath and said softly, "Nice creature, good creature. I won't be any trouble, so I will continue on and try to find my friends… and try not to be killed at the same time."
The growling became louder and I saw something move quickly to the left. I looked swiftly and saw nothing. I was literally freaking out and close to having a panic attack. I moved around and I screamed when I saw the Afanc right in front of me. I spun around and quickly ran for my life. It was hard running in a dress and holding a torch at the same time. I tripped over a rock and accidently dropped my torch. I didn't go back for it, so I continued to run for my life. I kept on running like the speed of light, because I could hear the Afanc getting closer and closer. In a few seconds, I could be Afanc chow!
As I turned around to another corner, I screamed when I nearly collided into something, more like into someone. My fearful eyes stared right into light blue eyes.
"Sam, are you alright," asked Arthur as Merlin and Morgana ran right up to us.
I do not know what came over me, because a few seconds later I started to punch Arthur in his chest. My hands were hurting even more as I kept on pounding on his chest.
"You stupid idiot! Why the hell did you tell us to separate!? I was almost attacked," I yelled out.
The moment stopped when the Afanc came right in front of Morgana and she screamed! I gasped in fright and Merlin grabbed my arm to pull me away from the prince. Arthur rushed and tried to stab it, but it disappeared again!
"Where is it," screamed the frantic prince.
Merlin pointed near the right and said, "I think it's gone this way!"
We walked closer to where Merlin had pointed, when all of a sudden the Afanc crept around the corner. I gasped and gripped Merlin's arm when I saw it. Arthur swung his sword at it, but it was so fast the he missed. The Afanc slashed at Arthur, making the prince drop his sword. Morgana tried to help, but the creature swung away at her torch.
As Arthur circled it with his torch, I tugged at Merlin's sleeve and whispered, "It's the torch! We have to use Arthur's torch to stop it!"
Merlin smiled and called out, "Arthur, use the torch!"
While Arthur was swinging the torch at the Afanc, I felt Merlin entwined our hands and we whispered out together, "Lyfte ic þe in balwen ac forhienan."
I could feel my eyes getting hot again as we both used our powers at the same time. Our spell magically lit up Arthur's torch at the Afanc, killing it instantly. I gasped and realized that we just incinerated the Afanc! I looked at Merlin and smiled! I knew we could do it!
The next day, word spread like wildfire all over the kingdom, talking all about the Afanc and that the sickness is over. I was overjoyed when I heard that Uther was releasing Gwen. I was smiling when the guard unlocked her cell and Gwen ran into her Father's arms.
"Oh, my little child," said Tom as happy tears leaked out of his eyes.
When Tom let go of Gwen, she reached over and grasped Morgana's hand.
"Thank you!"
Morgana smiled and shook her head. "Don't thank me. It was more Merlin and Sam, mostly Merlin."
Gwen and Merlin looked completely shocked at what Morgana had just revealed.
"Really," asked Gwen as she continued to stare at my brother.
Morgana continued to smile as she said, "He's the real hero here."
Gwen slightly smiled at Merlin as she said, "I don't know what to say."
I could tell Merlin was either embarrassed or humble, because he just shrugged his shoulders and scratched the back of his neck nervously. "I didn't do anything."
"I'm just so happy you are ok Gwen," I said as I gave her a hug.
Tom looked at the three of us before saying, "I'm- I'm grateful to you all. Come on, Gwen."
I gave Gwen one last hug before she and Tom left the dungeons. I started to walk up the stair, but I stopped, sat down at the steps, and listened to Merlin and Morgana's conversation. I smiled to myself, remembering this funny scene.
"Merlin. I wanted you to know, your secret's safe with me," I heard Morgana speak.
"My secret?"
Morgana kept on a straight face as she stared at my brother "Merlin, don't pretend. I know what you did."
"You do," asked Merlin, who I knew looked shocked and scared.
"I saw it with my own eyes."
Merlin gulped nervously and asked, "You did?"
Morgana nodded her head and replied, "I understand why you don't want anyone to know."
"Well, obviously."
"But I won't tell anyone. You don't mind me talking to you about it?"
I smirked to myself and covered my mouth trying not to laugh. I knew what both of them were thinking. Merlin was thinking Morgana found out about Merlin's powers, while Morgana was talking about… something else.
Merlin smiled and gave a sigh of relief. "Er...no. I- I, it's, er...you have no idea how hard it is to keep this hidden."
"Well, you can continue to deny it, but I think Gwen's a very lucky woman."
Merlin's smiled dropped and he looked confused. "Gwen?"
Morgana just put her finger to her lips and whispered, "It's our secret."
I looked up from my spot to see Morgana coming up to the steps. When she saw me, at first I thought she was going to scold me for ease dropping. However, my smile returned when I saw her put her finger to her lip, winked at me and left me at the steps. A few seconds later, Merlin came around the corner and jumped when his eyes landed onto my figure sitting on the steps, with a smug look on my face.
"So… Morgana knows about your crush on Gwen huh?"
If Merlin's face was red before, right now he looks like a tomato.
"Shut up Sam."
Later that night, Gaius graciously handed Merlin and me our dinner. It was fish with roasted veggies. I smiled happily as I started to dig into my dinner. The fish melted right into my mouth.
I was about to take another bite of my fish when I heard Merlin asked Gaius, "This fish didn't come from the water, did it?"
I stopped my fork from going into my waiting mouth as I stared at Gaius waiting for his answer. "Well, where else is it going to come from?"
"I'm not so hungry anymore," I said grimly as I pushed my plate away from me.
Of course, Gaius sighed and answered, "The water's fine now Samantha. That's not your worry." I sighed in relief as I pulled my plated back and cautiously and slowly ate my fish. "This is the work of a very powerful sorcerer. I only hope you two didn't come to her attention."
I gulped nervously, thinking about Nimueh and her reaction. Merlin on the other hand, just snorted and said, "Doubt it. Well, no one else seems to appreciate my skills. I just want someone to see me for who I am."
Gaius sat down next beside me and said, "One day, Merlin. One day."
I looked at our Uncle and asked him, "One day what?"
Gaius just smiled at me and answered, "One day people won't believe what an idiot your brother was."
I laughed as I continued at eat my dinner with my family. Nothing can ruin this day.
3rd POV
Sam however forgotten that someone was watching them from her stone basin. Nimueh glared harshly at the water reflection of the two siblings, as they continued to talk and eat with Gaius.
"Merlin, you and your sister will pay for this!"
And there you have it! Another chapter done! I don't know when I'll be able to update, but it will be soon… hopefully lol. Remember I will be starting my teaching and tutoring jobs soon, so the updates might be longer. Don't forget to review and until next time…
