3rd POV
I need to talk to him, Morgana thought to herself. After speaking and officially meeting Sophia, Morgana rushed to Arthur's Chambers. Maybe he can see reason and listen to Morgana. It was nearly dusk when she reached the prince's chambers.
"You seem very fond of her."
Arthur rolled his eyes before he continued to take his belt off his waist. "You make that sound like a bad thing."
"Not necessarily. I've just never seen you fall under a woman's spell so quickly."
Arthur paused from taking off his boots before he smirked. He had a feeling what Morgana was implying. He looked over his shoulder and said sarcastically, "If you're jealous, Morgana, it's ok to admit it."
"Don't flatter yourself," she replied as she rolled her eyes.
"Come on," the prince said as he untied his other boot. "It wouldn't be the first time now, would it?"
"Well, what about Samantha?"
Arthur froze for a moment. His heart stopped beating at the sound of her name. He looked back at Morgana and asked quickly, "What about Sam?"
Morgana smirked, knowing she can see right through the prince. It is obvious that Arthur liked the maidservant, even though he does not want to admit it. "Oh, come on Arthur! Every time she walks by or you hear her voice, you can't keep your eyes off her. Even just mentioning her name, it's all over your face."
Arthur narrowed his eyes and crossed his arms over his chest. "I don't like her like that. Besides, she is a servant and I am a prince. Also, Sophia is the one I like, not some maid."
Morgana was shocked. Did Arthur dismiss Sam just because she is a servant girl? "Arthur, I'm trying to protect you! Sophia isn't what she seems!"
"Why? What makes you say that?"
Morgana paused for a moment. She did not know how to answer that. However, she hesitantly replied, "I just have a feeling. It's difficult to describe." Arthur glanced at her before continuing getting ready for bed. "I had a dream. A nightmare."
Arthur stopped what he was doing and started to laugh. Morgana looked appalled at the prince's behavior. He is laughing at me, she thought.
Arthur smiled as he replied, "You really are very sweet, Morgana."
"Why are you laughing?" she asked as she glared at the Prince.
Arthur looked at her and said, "You! Your feelings, bad dreams. You don't have to make this stuff up. You can tell me the truth. It's obvious you like me."
Morgana gasped and placed her hand to her mouth. She felt like she was going to be sick. Yes, she cared for him as an older sister would care for her irritating little brother. But there was no romantic love at all for him in her heart. "Less and less by the second."
Arthur smirked before he got into his bed. He did not believe her one bit. "All right. Whatever you say."
"You're intolerable. Just hope I'm wrong about her."
SAM'S POV
The next day, I was walking down the castle hall carrying a basket of vegetables. Mrs. Grover told me to bring the food to the cook for tonight's dinner. Normally Tom would do it, but he was on break… with his girlfriend Carolina. I happily complied, except I found out how heavy the basket of vegetables would be. I wasn't watching where I was going, when I accidently rammed into someone. We fell to the ground and I dropped my basket. Thank God nothing fell out. However, I hit my right knee on the stone floor.
"Ouch, son of a-" I immediately stopped when I realized I ran into Arthur. My heart violently pounded at the sight of him as he rubbed his head. Oh man, I am so dead. "Arthur, I am so sorry. Are you all right?"
Arthur stopped rubbing his head when he heard my voice. His eyes landed on me and I swear they widened upon realizing it was me.
He cleared his throat and replied, "Of course I am all right, Samantha."
I narrowed my eyes at him. Arthur rarely calls me Samantha. As we got up and I picked up my basket, I looked at his clothes to see he was not wearing his outfit for the event today.
"I'm sorry, but don't you have your father's bestowing a knighthood on one of your men this morning?" I asked him.
Arthur rolled his eyes and replied, "Great, first Merlin and now you. As I told your idiot brother, I am missing it. Merlin is covering for me."
I narrowed my eyes and crossed my arms over my chest. "And by covering it, you mean forcing him to lie so he gets sent to the stocks again."
"He didn't mind last time."
"They were throwing potatoes at my brother! It took him 3 hours to get all the food from his hair," I hissed.
Arthur sighed, before he slowly walked passed me. "I'm not sure there's any hard-and-fast rules, but if it's any consolation, I think it was worth it."
I turned around and asked, "What was worth it?"
Arthur stopped and looked at me. He looked conflicted before saying, "Let's just say that Sophia and I had a nice walk yesterday."
My heart sank, and my basket nearly went with it. Has the spell taken hold yet or...or does he actually like her? "Do you… do you have feelings… for her?" I asked trying to keep my voice strong.
Arthur paused for a moment. I looked down when I realized his silence was the answer.
"I don't know." My eyes snapped up. Spoiled prince say what? He smiled at me as he continued, "I don't know what my feeling are for her. Right now, I'm just being a good host."
I felt a sigh of relief come to me. However, I was curious. In the episode, he had feeling for Sophia. Did I change that? If so, then good for me! I smiled at him and asked, "It is nice that you are being a gracious host an' all, but I do need to tell you something."
Arthur looked curious before asking, "Tell me something?"
I placed the basket down before replying, "Last night I had an… encounter with her. She kind of threatened me."
I waited for his response, but what happened next surprised me. Arthur's eyes hardened. His fists were shaking. I gasped when he marched right up to me, grabbed my shoulders, and said, "What, exactly, did Sophia do?"
I gulped as he put pressure on my shoulders. Is he mad at me?
"Look, it was nothing! We bumped into each other and she blamed me for ruining her dress and her eyes glowed and-"
"Sam, stop!" I immediately shut up and looked at Arthur. His blue eyes stared right into mine and he asked me, "I'm not mad at you. Are you telling the truth that Sophia threatened you?"
I slowly nodded my head… ok, so I 'accidently' splashed her with the bucket, but maybe I can make Arthur stay away from her. That way he won't be a sacrifice. Arthur looked around and took a deep breath to calm himself down.
"Are you still going out with her?" I asked.
Arthur looked at me all confused and asked, "Going out?"
I mentally slapped myself as I said, "I mean, are you still going to show Sophia around?"
Arthur released my shoulders and said, "No, I believe I will not today." My eyes widened with disbelief. He's not going with Sophia? Ha, take that you stupid witch! "Sophia should not have done that Sam. She and her father are guests in Camelot, but she should show respect to you, even though you are a servant. I will talk to her later."
I smiled and blushed. Aww, the prince does have a heart. There was a silent pause before I heard the church bells ringing, indicating it was 9 in the morning. The bells brought us back to reality when we realized we were staring at each other. Arthur cleared his throat as I looked at my basket of vegetables.
"Well, I should get back to my chambers and change into my uniform for the knighthood presentation."
"Right, and I need to drop these off and then clean my own laundry. Plus, I need to stop Merlin from embarrassing himself by telling your father that you won't be there when you will be. " I walked past Arthur as fast as I could. I paused and looked back. "Arthur." He stopped at his door and looked back at me. I smiled and said, "Thank you, Arthur. This means a lot."
3rd POV
Where is he? That stupid mortal should have been here by now. Sophia impatiently thought as she paced back and forth by her horse. Arthur was supposed to take her to the river today, and there she would place her spell on him. However, he was two hours late. It was rude to have a lady waiting. Sophia was about to leave the stables when she heard horns trumpeting. Curiosity got to her and she decided to follow the sound. As she turned around the corner, she was stunned. Standing next to the king, was Arthur. He was at the knighthood presentation instead of with her. Sophia could feel her blood boiling in anger.
When Arthur's eyes landed on her, his smile dropped. Sophia couldn't tell if he was surprised or upset to see her. She waited thirty more minutes, until she saw Arthur finally walking towards the castle. Sophia took a deep breath and rushed over to him.
"Arthur." He paused for a moment upon hearing her call, but continued to walk away. Sophia gasped and grabbed his arm to make him stop. "Arthur, please wait. Where were you this morning? You promised to take me to the river since we were interrupted yesterday."
Arthur looked at her and she realized he wasn't upset, he was angry. "I apologies Sophia, but I had to attend to the Knight Presentation. I could not miss it."
Sophia nodded her head as if she understood. "Well then, since you are done, why don't we go to the river?" She reached for Arthur's hand and started to walk him to the stable. To her shock, he immediately recoiled. "Arthur, what's the matter?"
"I am sorry Sophia, but I cannot go with you. I have more important things to attend to," said the prince.
"More important than your promise?" She paused when she saw Arthur staring at someone. Her eyes hardened as she watched the servant girl carrying a basket of lilies through the courtyard. The same servant who ruined her dress. "Why are you staring at that servant? She is a commoner and a fool."
Hearing her comment, Arthur's rage surged through him. He slowly looked at Sophia and hissed out, "What did you say?"
"She is a servant girl. You should have seen how she treated me yesterday." She grabbed Arthur's hand and asked sweetly, "Arthur, can you send her to the dungeons for treating me poorly?"
What Arthur did not notice was Sophia silently whispered her love spell on him. Arthur closed his eyes as the spell hit him. Sophia smiled, feeling Arthur's mind entering hers. He would call the guards to arrest Samantha. In Sophia's mind, she could see that stupid girl being dragged into a cell to rot. Yet, to her horror, Arthur snatched his hand out of hers.
"How dare you! Samantha is a kind and loyal girl, servant or not. I heard that you threatened her. You and your father may be guests in Camelot, but I won't allow you to disrespect Samantha or any of my people."
Sophia was sincerely surprised. Her spell did not work. How could that be? What went wrong? She looked down and noticed Arthur was wearing a bracelet.
"Where… Who gave you that?" she asked meekly.
Arthur gazed down at his wrist. He looked at the bracelet and remembered what happened a few hours ago.
Arthur was about to enter his chambers when Sam called his name again. He turned to see she placed the basket down and pulled out a bracelet from her pocket. "I wanted to give this to you as a thank you for saving my life when I was poisoned." Arthur winced as he recalled when Sam almost died when she drank from his goblet. "So I made this to give to you, so you know how appreciative I am for what you did."
Arthur looked at the gesture as Sam slowly showed him the bracelet. It was a dark crimson leather band with a black stone in the center. If you looked closely, there was a carving of a dragon in the stone.
"You made this?" Arthur asked, impressed.
Sam smiled and shrugged. "Well, Gwen helped me out and Morgana told me these were your favorite colors."
Arthur smiled as he reached over and took the bracelet out of Sam's hands. He placed it on his wrist. Sam smiled and secretly cheered to herself. What Arthur did not know was that Sam placed a protection spell within the stone. Whoever wore the bracelet couldn't be placed under any spell. She knew Sophia would try to spell Arthur again, but now she could hope that the bracelet would be more powerful than Sophia.
Arthur brought his eyes from the bracelet back to the stunned look on Sophia's face. "It was a gift," he replied.
Sophia was about to comment when someone ran up to them. She instantly recognized the boy as Arthur's manservant, Merlin.
"Arthur… I mean, Sire. You have your meeting with the council in a few minutes."
Arthur smiled as he replied, "Thank you, Merlin. You can go and polish my armor now."
Merlin nodded before walking away. When Arthur turned back to Sophia, what they both did not realize that Merlin gazed back with a suspicious look. He recalled when his sister told him the incident that occurred yesterday. He knew he need to talk to Sam and Gaius later.
"Look Sophia, I have to go now. My father is having a meeting with the council and I need to attend."
Sophia took a deep breath and had a fake smile on her face. "I understand. Maybe this afternoon we can go to the river."
Arthur paused for a moment before saying if he does not have any other plans, then they would. Arthur left to go to the meeting and as he retreated back to the castle, Sophia's smile dropped and her eyes glared. Today did not go as planned and it was all that servant girl's fault. She knew Sam give Arthur that bracelet and for some odd reason, Sophia felt that the bracelet was blocking her magic. Sophia marched right back to her chambers and decided that she and her father needed to do something about that Samantha girl.
SAM'S POV
"I heard Arthur was at the knighting ceremony."
Merlin smiled at our uncle before replying, "Yes, which was interesting since this morning he was planning on spending some time with Sophia. I wonder who changed his mind?"
I was about to eat my lunch when I felt two pairs of eyes staring at my back. I slowly looked over my shoulder to see my Uncle's smirk and Merlin's grin.
"What? Can't I enjoy my meal before I have to go back to work in the gardens?" I asked impatiently.
Merlin laughed before sitting next to me. "I don't know how you did it, but thank you Sam. You saved me from another day in the stocks."
I scoffed, trying to fake innocence. "I have no idea what you're talking about."
Gaius chuckled before he became serious. "I fear that Sophia may not be all that she seems." I looked at my Uncle as he asked us, "What do you two know about seers?"
Merlin looked confused before answering, "Not much. They're supposed to be able to see the future, like prophets."
"They have visions like sometimes in a nightmare or something," I said as I ate a piece of bread.
"It's said to be an innate ability. Those who have it are born that way. Some aren't even aware that what they see is the future. And you are correct, Sam. It comes to them in their dreams," Gaius explained to us.
My eyes widened as I realized something. The way Morgana was acting for the past couple of days. How did I forget that? "Are you talking about Morgana? I remember she was scared when she first laid eyes on Sophia."
Merlin looked at me as his mouth dropped in shock. Gaius sighed and nodded his head. "The night before she and Aulfric came to Camelot, Morgana had a dream. Sophia was in it."
Merlin looked confused before asking, "Before she arrived in Camelot?"
"I've been watching Morgana since she was very young. And though I tried to persuade myself otherwise, I realized that some of the things she said she'd dreamt came to pass. I kept it secret from Uther, of course. The gift of prophecy is too close to the work of magic," our uncle said.
"You think Morgana is a seer?"
Gaius looked at my brother sadly and replied, "I don't think it. I fear it. Morgana said she dreamt that Sophia killed Arthur. We are lucky he did not forget his duty and did not go with Sophia today. However, I fear she will not stop until Morgana's vision comes true."
I stopped eating my lunch and said, "I knew there was something bad about her. Morgana saw Sophia kill Arthur. Arthur told me they were going to the river. I mean, isn't it odd how persistent Sophia was over a river?"
Merlin shook his head as he was trying to think. "Couldn't that have just been a dream? Maybe the- the woman Morgana saw just looked like Sophia."
"That's what I hoped. But Aulfric caught me in Sophia's room and, in a flash of anger, his eyes changed color."
"Plus, Sophia did threaten me and I swear I thought I saw her eyes glowed red," I said.
Merlin looked at us as he asked, "Who are they?"
"It's not who they are that worries me. It's what they want with Arthur."
Later that night, Merlin and I decided we should spy on Aulfric. We hid behind a wall when we heard Aulfric say to his daughter, "I must speak with the elders. We will discuss what we should do with the servant girl when I return."
I slowly looked to see Aulfric walking away from Sophia as she went back to her chambers. Merlin looked at me before grabbing my hand. We softly followed Aulfric out into the woods. I had my invisible cloak just in case Merlin and I have to hide. After 20 minutes of walking, Aulfric stopped at a lake. Merlin and I concealed ourselves behind the trees as we stared at Aulfric. I held my breath when I realized we were looking at the Lake of Avalon.
"I seek an audience with the Sidhe elders! Do:tiag-sa ar idbairt do denam!"
Aulfric held his staff high in the air as his gem glowed a bright blue. All of a sudden, the lake turned glassy and fog came out. I nearly gasped when balls of light came out of the water and moved at sonic speed. I could not see clearly. I felt a warm presence and I was in awe to see everything was moving in slow motion. I looked at my brother to realize that he used magic to slow down time. My eyes widened when I saw little fairies moving and dancing around the lake. If you think the fairies are like the ones in stories like in Peter Pan, you are sadly mistaken. These fairies have blue skin, sharp fangs, and long claw hands. I felt my brother wrapping his arm around my shoulder as we continued to spy on what was going on. One fairy stopped dancing and faced Aulfric. I bet he was the chief of the elders.
"I come before you to plead for the chance to win passage back to Avalon and a life of immortality," pleaded Aulfric.
The Sidhe Elder sneered at Aulfric as he hissed out, "Your punishment for killing another Sidhe is a mortal body and a mortal life." Aulfric was pale when he recalled his actions from the past. "You will never be able to return to Avalon."
Aulfric shook his head as said, "The crime was mine, not my daughter's."
"The gates of Avalon remain closed to your daughter. Unless the soul of a mortal prince be offered up to them."
I glared as I heard the fairy stated that they need a soul of a mortal prince. My whole body felt stiff and my knuckles turned white. Merlin must have noticed my behavior as wrapped his arm around me for comfort.
"Thank you. An immortal life for my daughter is all that I desire, so I promise you the soul of the greatest prince of all. Arthur Pendragon!"
The fairy's fangs turned into a grin and he hissed with delight. Aulfric started to laugh like a maniac as the fairies started to disappear back into the water. Suddenly his body went stiff as if he could sense someone was looking for him. Merlin pulled me back behind the tree and time began to continue. I was thankful that Aulfric did not catch us. I looked at my brother and I knew we had to stop them. Arthur's life was in danger and I hadn't stopped the episode from progressing to that dark fate. We rushed back two Gaius's chambers and explained exactly what we saw.
"Avalon. What you saw at the lake, it's Avalon. It must be," Gaius said to us. "The land of eternal youth. Mortals are only supposed to glimpse it the moment before death."
Merlin scoffed and raised his eyebrows as he said, "Well, we've seen it and we're still here."
Gaius seemed intrigued as he said, "Extraordinary. What did it look like?"
I stopped my pacing and looked at my uncle. Did he really just say that? "Gaius, are you kidding me? Did you just ask what Avalon looks like when Aulfric told that fairy thing that Arthur is going to be sacrificed?"
Merlin nodded his head and agreed with me. "We don't even know who "they" are yet."
"We do now. I found writing like this on the top of Aulfric's staff." Gaius showed us a book with a picture of the magical object, ignoring my justified outburst. "It's Ogham, an ancient script. Abas ocus bithe. Duthectad bithlane. "To hold life and death in your hands." From the writing on his staff and what you saw at the lake, I'm afraid I'm now certain. We're dealing with the Sidhe."
I sighed as I said, "So Sophia and Aulfric are Sidhes."
Merlin's eyes widened as he said regretfully, "That does not sound like a good thing."
"They're masters of enchantment," Gaius said grimly.
I looked at Gaius and asked, "Do you think Arthur's been fully enchanted? He wasn't with Sophia this afternoon when he was at the knight ceremony."
Merlin looked at me curiously and said, "That may be true. If he is not 'in love' with Sophia, then he cannot be sacrificed."
"There is a problem. According to the scripture, Arthur can be sacrificed in two ways; by being enchanted fully or by willingly being sacrificed. Sophia and Aulfric might force Arthur to be drowned. I'm afraid Morgana's dream is coming true," Gaius replied.
My head felt like it was going to explode from worrying. Looks like I would have to watch Arthur like a hawk and make sure he does not go to the forest with Sophia, again.
Merlin, Gaius and I made a plan that at least one of us needed to be around Arthur at all times until we figured out how to stop the Sidhes. Since I was the one changing things, I took the first shift so Merlin and Gaius could research ways to save him in case I had made things worse. I shook off the terrifying thought and quickened my pace to find Arthur. Everything would be fine. Worst case scenario, we follow them to the lake and Merlin blasts them before Arthur drowns. Easy peasy. Except I couldn't find the prat prince anywhere! I went to his chamber, empty. I went to the training fields, not a single torch was lit. I even went to the kitchens and ran for my life when the cook screamed at me to get out. I'd be cranky after a long day of feeding ungrateful people too, but the one ungrateful person I needed to find had disappeared!
I was about to turn around to go back to Gaius' chambers when someone walked around the corner and almost bumped into me. I gasped at the blonde sneer inches from my face and backed up thinking, Where's a bucket of water to melt this hag when it need it?
"Hello Samantha," Sophia said harshly as she placed her hands on her hips.
I sighed and responded tiredly, "What do you want, Sophia?"
Her eyes glared at me as she seethed, "Don't play innocent with me. I know what you did."
"I'm sorry, but what did I ever do?" I mockingly asked.
"Arthur was supposed to show me Camelot yesterday. He promised me, but for some odd reason he broke his promise." Sophia's hands were shaking as they gripped her waist and her face was turning as red as when her true eyes flash. "He refused to be with me because of some other commitment," Sophia whined threw gritted teeth.
I scoffed and crossed my arms over my chest to keep from slapping the infuriated sneer off her face. "Well he is the Prince of Camelot," I replied, if not a little too sarcastically.
Sophia drew in a sharp breath and stepped forward. "Yet, during our conversation, something strange happened between us."
"Look, I'm sorry Arthur cancelled on your supposed date. I guess there was something more important than you." I felt satisfaction when I noticed she was losing her cool. I forced a smile and said, "Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be going home as I'm off duty. Have a pleasant evening.
I purposely bumped my shoulder into hers as I walked away. I proudly smirked to myself as she rubbed her shoulder, but I was unable to resume my search for Arthur.
"It's pathetic, almost sad really... You being in love with Arthur."
I immediately stopped walking, my whole body frozen in place. What did she just have the nerve to say to me? After a moment to process, I slowly looked over my shoulder to see Sophia smirking and stalking towards me.
"Poor, sweet, common Samantha. You are merely a servant and he is a prince." I narrowed my eyes while Sophia began to circle me. I was the mouse and she was the lion, only she wasn't freeing me from a trap... she was setting it. I felt a chill go down my spine as she faced me and said, "He will never love you. You are dirt on his shoes. Dirt the king could have removed forever if he knew the truth."
I was so angry that my knuckles turned white. I was seconds away from attacking this crazy witch. Sophia smirked like she won the battle. Oh yeah, she was going down. I marched right up to her face and said, "Caring about someone's life is never pathetic. No, pathetic is using someone for their own twisted gain, as yours is as twisted as they come! I know what you and your father really are. I know what you're going to do to Arthur, you Sidhe." Sophia gasped and her eyes widened with fear. Now she knew that I knew her little secret, giving me the upper hand. "You think you're so clever for enchanting Arthur so you can sacrifice him? Well, sorry not sorry, but this poor sweet servant girl is five steps ahead of you."
Sophia's lips twisted into a grin as she replied, "Having you know of my need to sacrifice Arthur to gain back my immortality changes nothing. How can you be five steps ahead if you don't even know the path?"
I glared and stormed closer. "I will not let you kill him. I'm going to tell Arthur the truth… and there is nothing you can do to stop," I hissed out but she interrupted me.
"Who says I will be the one to stop you?"
I raised an eyebrow, infuriated and confused, when a sudden wind swept me into the stone wall. The force was so strong that I nearly lost all the air in my lungs on impact and for a moment I thought I had broken bones. I crumbled to the floor as the pain throbbed throughout my whole body. I groaned, trying to move, but it was too much to bear. Slowly, I opened my eyes to see Aulfric standing next to Sophia and he was holding his staff in his hand. The stone was glowing as if threatening to hurl my body until it shattered.
"You don't take rejection well, do you?" I wheezed, less confident than I hoped as I tried to regain motion in my limbs.
"You see my dear, we need Arthur to be sacrificed so my daughter can return to Avalon," Aulfric replied. "Unfortunately, you are correct and Sophia's enchantment is being rejected. She cannot make him love her."
Sophia smirked at me and said, "No matter. Arthur will die for me. In fact, he'll want to do it."
I glared at the monsters staring over me. As much pain as I was in, the real torture was not being able to fight back! "What makes you think he will and why are you even telling me this?"
Aulfric smirked at me as he slowly leaned over my helpless body. My heart started to pound with fear as he bent down and grabbed my chin. "Because my dear Samantha, you are the bait for Arthur. He will drown in Avalon's waters, if it means saving you from the same fate."
My breath caught in my throat, unable to fill my lungs. I saved his life only to put mine in danger too? A fear I had never known struck my heart and I felt myself shivering. Then I suddenly remembered that I could contact Merlin. I thought of my brother and yelled inside my mind, "Merlin, help me! Sophia and her father are going to-"
Before I could finish my thought, Aulfric raised his staff towards me and hissed out, "Ifna diea hipposa." The stone glowed a bright red and another wave of crashed over me and as the pain intensified, the last thing I saw was both Sophia and Aulfric smiling down at me... then my whole world turned dark.
Oh no, Aulfric and Sophia kidnapped Sam! Will Arthur and Merlin save her? Will the episode be the same or different since Aulfric and Sophia are making Sam bait for Arthur? You must wait for the next chapter!
Again, the next chapter will take some time so please have patience with me. The next update will be my "Red Rose Nightmare" story and then I will be back with "My Magical Wish."
Please do not forget to favorite, follow, review, and until then…
