Hello my Merlin fans! I AM BACK! Sorry for the long wait. Been really busy lately, but at least I was able to update. You are all in luck, because this Sunday… IS MY BIRTHDAY! I hope you all enjoy the chapter.
I don't own anything except for Sam.
Sam's POV
"I finished tending the vegetable garden," I reported to Mrs. Grover as I whipped my dirty hands on my apron.
Mrs. Grover looked over at my work and nodded her head. "Well done Samantha." I smiled and was about to leave when she said, "Now I need you to take the vegetables to the cook."
I groaned. I really don't want to see the cook. For some reason she always glares at me and even when I take a little piece of bread, she always chases me out of the kitchen. I nodded my head and took the basket of vegetables. I swear I heard Mrs. Grover chuckling behind me. I was walking in the east corridor, when I heard something.
"Help!"
I nearly dropped the basket and looked around. The only person in the quarter besides me was another maid. I slowly placed the basket down and looked around. Then I heard the voice again.
"Help me! Please."
I walked out the door an enter the square. I looked around to see everyone was minding their own business. At the corner of my eye, I saw Merlin walking down the stairs. Did he hear the cry of help to? I looked around, and to my surprise I saw a little boy hiding behind a stone ledge. And nearly gasped when I realized who cried for help. It was Mordred. The boy who would grow up and kill Arthur. Oh not this episode! This is the episode where Merlin had to make a really hard decision. Why this episode?
I was surprised to see that Mordred was staring at Merlin, not at me. "Please. You have to help me. Help me."
I looked over to see the guards entering the Square, searching for the boy. One of the head guards commanded to the others, "Search in there. Take the other side." He walked over to a commoner and asked, "You, did you see a boy run in here?"
Mordred's eyes were in fear, afraid he was going to get caught. He looked back at my brother and whispered telepathically, "They're searching for me."
Merlin looked at the boy carefully and asked in his mind, "Why are they after you?"
I was even more surprised that I can hear both Mordred and Merlin's conversation. Mordred closed his eyes and said five words that shook me to the core. "They're going to kill me."
I nearly jumped out of my skin when I heard one of the guards called out, "Guards! In here!"
Making sure Mordred doesn't hear me, I looked at my brother and said in my mind, "Merlin, come over here. I know where we can hide him."
Merlin slightly jumped before looking over to me. He could see I was hiding by the side door. Merlin ran over to him and grabbed my hand. I looked back at Mordred to see he was staring at me curiously. I felt a shiver go down my spine. I took a deep breath and whispered to Merlin that the coast is clear.
"This is my sister. She can help us." Mordred looked at the guards before Merlin said in the boy's mind, "This way. Run. Run!"
Mordred took a deep breath before getting up and running towards us. I could see he was holding his wounded arm. One of the guards spotted him and shouted out, "Hey. There he is! Alert the rest of the guards!"
I did not think as I instantly grabbed Mordred into my arms and carried him. Merlin and I ran up the Griffin Stairways. I could hear Mordred groaning and shivering.
I placed my hand on his head and whispered, "Sh, don't worry. Everything will be ok."
We suddenly stopped when we heard the guard's voice called out, "In there. Quick, down there. We've got 'im."
I looked behind my shoulder, knowing the guards are close. I could feel Mordred shaking in fear. I held him closer as Merlin hissed out, "Where do we go?"
I looked around and saw the one place I remembered where they hid in the episode. "Up there! We need to go to Morgana's Chambers."
Without an explanation, I ran up the curved stairs with Merlin on my trail. We burst into Morgana's room to see the Lady of Camelot and her maid staring at us with shock. Merlin slam the door shut. I placed Mordred down to check on him.
Morgana was not pleaded at our intrusion. "Have you forgotten how to knock, Merlin?! Samantha, why do you look like you have seen a ghost?"
Merlin had his back to the door as he replied breathlessly, "The guards are after him. We didn't know what to do."
Morgana stared at the boy in shock. My mind was racing as I looked at Mordred's face. I felt very conflicted. This is the boy who would grow up and kill Arthur. If Mordred dies than maybe Arthur's destiny will change… but Mordred's a boy. The thought of murdering a child is horrible. I nearly screamed and held Mordred closer to me when there was a knock on the door.
We could hear a guard behind the door as he continued to knock and called out, "My Lady?"
I looked at Morgana and pleaded quietly, "Please Morgana, we need to hide him."
Merlin and Gwen looked at the Lady in Waiting to see what she would say. Mordred was shaking in my arms in not only fear, but from being sick.
Morgana looked at Mordred before quietly said to us, "In there."
I smiled at her before I grabbed Mordred. Merlin, Mordred and I hid behind the curtain. I held my breath as I heard the door open.
"I'm sorry to disturb you, My Lady." I felt something move next to me. I looked down and nearly gasped as Mordred fainted into my arms. Merlin immediately bent down to check on the poor Druid boy. I looked back at the curtain as I held the boy. "We're searching for a young Druid boy. We believe he came this way," I heard the guard said.
"I haven't seen anyone. It's just me and my maid."
I smiled as I thought, 'Dang, Morgana is a great actress. This is why I think Katie McGrath was an amazing actress.'
The guard must have believed her as he said, "Best keep the door locked till we find him."
"Of course. Thank you."
I looked back at our sick patient as the door closed and Morgana and Gwen ran to our hiding place. Merlin looked at his hand to see it was covered in blood, Mordred's blood. I looked at Morgana and Gwen to see they were thinking the same thing as me… what the hell are we going to do now?
It's been an hour since Mordred fainted. We were all on eggshells every time we heard someone close to Morgana's door. Merlin was able to wrap Mordred's side to stop the bleeding.
If you look at me, you would be thinking I was sitting on the ground next to where Mordred was laying as I was daydreaming. However, I was feeling ashamed when I heard the beating of the drums. I knew what was happening next. Cerdan was going to be executed. I felt like it was my fault. I should have remembered what happened next in the episode. I should have sneaked into the dungeons and help Cerdan escape. I had to remind myself that this is not a tv show now. These people are real life, not some actors playing their character.
I snapped out of my thoughts when I felt someone grabbing my hand. I looked to my right to see Mordred was awake. He was holding my hand. His light blue eyes stared right into mine. I looked over to see Morgana and Merlin were standing by the window.
"Guys." Morgana and Merlin turned to look at us. "He's awake," I whispered.
Morgana rushed over to us and asked quietly, "Hello, how are you feeling?" Of course, Mordred did not answer. He just stared at us. Morgana looked worried for the boy. She looked at me and said, "Stay with him."
I nodded my head before Morgana walked back to join Merlin at the window. I stared at them as I heard Uther began to speak to the people in the Square.
"People of Camelot, the man before you is guilty of using enchantments and magic. Under our law, the sentence for this crime is death. We're still searching for his accomplice."
I immediately looked at Mordred. I could tell he was very scared. I squeezed his hand and whispered to him, "Don't worry, you will be safe. I promise you."
He eyes gazed into mine. I swear I thought I saw a small smile on his face. My heart dropped when I heard what Uther said next.
"Anyone found harboring the boy is guilty of conspiracy and will be executed as a traitor." I gasped and started to shake. Great, not only am I a witch but I am guilty of conspiracy. "Let this serve as a warning to your people," Uther said to Cerdan.
"You have let your fear of magic turn to hate. I pity you." The last words Cerdan said.
Morgana looked horrified as she said, "I can't watch this."
She left Merlin and walked over to us. I released Mordred's hand as Morgana sat down next to us. She instantly took Mordred into her arms, cradling and comforting him. As the drums were beating faster, a thought came into my head. Was Cerdan Mordred's dad or like a mentor? Is Mordred going to be an orphan now? If I had saved Cerdan, would that change both Mordred's and Arthur's fates? I wrapped my knees into my arms, trying to comfort myself. I closed my eyes as I tried not to cry. The drumming stopped and I knew Uther signaled for Cerdan to be executed.
"No!"
I nearly jumped when Mordred screaming telepathically in my head. What screamed me even more was when Morgana's mirror smashed, like someone threw a rock at it. I covered my mouth so I wouldn't scream. I looked back at the Druid boy to see his narrowed blue eyes were staring right into mine. This little boy is very powerful… and it scares me.
And there you have it! The first part of the episode "The Beginning of the End' is done!
Again, the next chapter will take some time so please have patience with me. The next update will be my "Red Rose Nightmare" story and then I will be back with "My Magical Wish."
