Hello, my Merlin fans, I am back!
I am so sorry it's been about 2 years since I've last updated. That is no excuse and I am truly sorry. I defiantly feel like I need a break from life. The stress and life are really getting to me.
Also, I want to thank OtherCharacterNut for helping me with this story. You guys really need to read her stories. Again, the next chapter will take some time because of life and my next update is my "Red Rose Nightmare" story. Please be patient with me. Sorry for any grammar mistakes.
This is the last part of the episode Excalibur!
Also, I do not own anything and the songs except my OCs Sam, Courtney and many more.
SAM'S POV
I sat at the table just looking at my bowl of vegetable soup. I didn't even touch my spoon. I was so depressed that I couldn't save those two knights. The image of the last knight's mother wailing for her dead son was killing me. It was my fault! Maybe that stupid dragon was right. I was a burden to this world and my knowledge of the show wasn't helping at all.
"Samantha, you need to eat," he said, but I barely noticed Gaius placing the plate of fresh bread in front of me.
Without looking up, I replied softly, "I'm not hungry."
He sighed as he looked at me full of concern. He knew I felt guilty but didn't know how to get me out of this funk. Merlin walked into the room all immediately started pacing.
"You were right," he said to our uncle.
"I wish I wasn't."
Merlin continued to pace in circles. "If Arthur fights that thing, he'll die."
"He is going to die," I said as I played with my soup spoon.
Gaius looked at me sternly and said, "Now enough of your sorrow. Arthur is Camelot's strongest warrior. If anyone can defeat it, he can."
Something inside of me snapped. I slammed the spoon down. "I tried to save those knights! I tried to protect them! But even my own magic didn't stop him! The Black Knight still killed them, even with my protection spells!" I looked to see Gaius and Merlin's shocked and concerned faces. I looked down at my hands to see them shaking. I was scared. "I failed. My magic is not strong, which makes me useless."
Merlin placed his hand on my shoulder and gave it a squeeze. "You didn't fail, Sam, and you're certainly not useless."
I looked up at my brother and I started to cry. "I'm scared, Merlin."
He immediately wrapped his arms around me. As he continued to comfort me, I heard him say to Gaius, "You said yourself, no mortal weapon can kill it. Which means we have to find a way to defeat the wraith ourselves."
Gaius paused a moment, then asked, "How do you propose to do that?"
"If no mortal sword will kill it... then I will." I looked up to see Merlin running into our bedroom to fetch our magic book. "With mortal magic."
"No, it's too dangerous," said Gaius.
"Merlin, my magic couldn't stop him. How do you think yours will?" I questioned softly.
Merlin turned to me and said with a determine voice, "If not yours or my magic alone, both of our combined power will stop him." I looked down at my shoes in uncertainty. He placed his hand under my chin and lifted it up to meet my eyes. "Sam, we don't have a choice. We must try."
When it was nightfall, Gaius left on his own mission to try to tell Uther that Arthur needs to know the truth of his birth and his mother's death, while Merlin and I snuck into the training grounds. I was tempted to bring my invisibility cloak, but I decided it wasn't necessary in the darkness.
We stopped when we saw Tristan aka the Black Knight just standing there, looking up at the castle. I felt like we were in a horror movie and Merlin and I were the killer's next victims… AND I HATE HORROR MOVIES! Trust me, I wouldn't last a few seconds before running out of the movie theater.
"Are you sure about this," I whispered to my brother.
"Trust me, this will work," he whispered back.
I sighed before stepping back. We agreed to let him try his magic first. If that didn't work, then we would combine our magic.
Merlin raised his hand and hissed out, "Hisa notals kupta nikolias."
His eyes turned gold and Tristan's armor started to steam up and turn red. However, like I predicted, the melting stopped, and Tristan was unarmed, like it had no effect at all. He just kept staring at the castle.
Merlin sighed before turning to me. I knew it wasn't going to work, just like in the episode, but we had to try. I grabbed Merlin's hand as we both held our separate hands towards the Black Knight.
Together we said in unison, "Cume her fyrbryne."
I felt my eyes burn and knew Merlin's hand must be tingling as much as mine. Fire sprang from the ground and traveled to Tristan. It circled around him before rising up to his helmet. Merlin was smiling in his goofy way, but I frowned. I knew I couldn't get my hopes up. Just as expected, the fire faded away and the Black Knight was still alive and unharmed. Worse than that, it was like he was unaware that we did anything! Merlin looked at him in horror. I nearly screamed when Tristan turned his head and looked right at us. Merlin held my hand tightly as we ran away before the Black Knight had the chance to kill us.
SEE, THIS IS WHY I HATE HORROR MOVIES!
"We have to warn Arthur," Merlin said as we ran to the prat's chambers.
When we reached Arthur's chambers, we burst into the room without a thought. Arthur was practicing with his sword, only to stop when he saw us. I placed my hands on my knees trying to catch my breath. Note to self, after this episode is done, go to the woods and practice my taekwondo so I can be more athletic and not need to feel like I'm losing my breath.
Arthur looked peeved at us for disturbing him. "Merlin, you know that conversation we had about knocking, and you, Sam, should know it is improper for a lady like yourself to enter my chambers…"
"You have to pull out," Merlin interrupted the prince.
Still having my hands to my knees, I weekly pointed to Merlin and said in a strain voice, "What… he said."
Arthur scoffed at us before continuing his sword practice. "And why is that?"
"Because he'll kill you."
He paused for a moment when he heard Merlin's reply. Now I knew he was sick and tired of hearing that sentence. First from Uther and now from us. "Why does everybody think that?"
"Because they're right! Just pull out. You're the Crowned Prince. No one wants to see you die over some stupid challenge," my brother said as he walked closer to Arthur.
"I am not a coward."
I stood straight up and asked, "Wait, did we say that? Because we know you are not a coward." I walked up to them and grabbed Arthur's hand to stop him from swinging his sword. He looked at me as I said softly, "You are an amazing knight and a great leader to your people, Arthur. You don't need to prove anything."
"And you are more than that," Merlin continued after me. "You're not merely a warrior. You're a prince, a future king! You've proven your courage, but you must prove your wisdom."
Arthur looked at us, as if he was contemplating what we were saying. But hope was gone when he removed my hand and continued his practice for the battle. "I'm not backing down."
Merlin groaned as he walked over to the window to see Tristan still there at the training grounds. "Please, Arthur, listen to me. This is no ordinary knight. Look at him. He doesn't eat, he doesn't sleep. He just stands there, in complete silence."
I looked flabbergasted when Arthur was still practicing and ignoring us. "Hello? Did you not hear Merlin?"
He rolled his eyes as he replied, "Of course I heard him, Samantha. I just choose to ignore his ridiculous warnings."
That was it. Without thinking, I screamed, "Arthur for once get your head out of your ass and listen to us! That knight is not human! It keeps on staring at your window like a stalker! If you die, then Camelot will fall! You need to stop being so prideful and listen to us! We are trying to warn you -"
"And I'm trying to warn YOU, Samantha!"
I gasped when Arthur suddenly pointed his sword right at me. My eyes widened with disbelief. Merlin grabbed my arm to pull me back, but I refused to move.
I looked into the prince's eyes and hissed out, "If you won't listen to us, fine! But NEVER threaten me again, your grace."
I covered my hand with my sleeve to protect my skin and grabbed the sword's sharp edge. I could feel Merlin tense behind me and saw Arthur's grip instinctively tightened on the hilt of his weapon. Without breaking eye contact with Arthur, I cast my arm to the side, throwing the blade towards the window. Arthur was able to hold on enough to not be disarmed, but I still broke his stance. He stared at me more astounded than he'd ever been and the sting across my palm was worth it.
I looked at my hand to see that my sleeve wasn't enough not to be cut, but without the protective cloth it would've been much deeper. I raised the bleeding slice up to the prince's face and seethed, "All we wanted was to stop something far worse than this from happening to you. But you'd rather swing your sword around and make the people around you bleed instead of listening to those who care about you."
With that, Merlin and I left the room, leaving Arthur completely alone.
ARTHUR POV
He gasped as the door slammed shut and dropped the sword when he looked down to see Sam's blood staining the edge. He just threatened a lady at sword point... and Sam, of course Sam would grab it in defense. Arthur fell into the closest chair and dropped his face into his hands. After the incident with Sophia, Arthur swore that Sam would not be harmed… and he broke his promise.
SAM'S POV
I paced by the entrance to the tunnels waiting for Merlin to return with a sword. When I was about to re-bandage my hand, again, I finally saw him rushing to me with the chosen blade.
"Took you long enough," I hissed at him.
"Sorry, I was trying to get the sword from Gwen," was his excuse.
I smirked as we started descending down the tunnels. "Right, took your time talking to your girlfriend."
"Yes, I…" Merlin paused at looked at me in shock. "Sam, Gwen is not my girlfriend!"
"Whatever you say, lover boy!"
"FOR THE LAST TIME, I AM NOT IN LOVE WITH GWEN!"
After walking down the dark passageways (and continuing teasing the idea of "Merwen", yup that's my ship name for Merlin and Gwen), we entered the dragon's cave and saw Kilgharrah was waiting for us.
"Merlin and Samantha!"
Stepping in front of me, Merlin asked, "Do you know why we're here?"
"It may surprise you, Merlin, but my knowledge of yours and your sister's lives is not universal."
"It's to do with Arthur. His life's in danger." Merlin handed me the torch as he unwrapped the sword from its cloth. "He will die, unless Sam and I can make a weapon that will kill the dead."
Kilgharrah raised one of his eyebrows (do dragons have eyebrows?) and asked, "So what do you come to ask of me?"
Without answering at first, Merlin floated the sword in front of the dragon. "Will you burnish it, to save Arthur?"
Looking away from the sword, the dragon asked Merlin, "The dead do not return without reason. Who has he come for?"
Merlin hesitated to answer, so I spoke up. "King Uther. The Black Knight is here for Uther."
"Then let him take his vengeance and the wraith will die without my aid," Kilgharrah stated immediately dismissing our request.
"But it's Arthur who's going to fight him. He challenged Tristan and he is going to die, not Uther! You have to save him," I insisted.
Looking shocked, the dragon asked, "Tristan?"
I took a deep breath and replied, "The Queen's dead brother. His grave was empty and now he's back to do what he started before he died."
"That is yours and your brother's destiny, young witch, not mine."
Taking my hand, Merlin said determinedly, "But if Arthur fights the wraith and dies, Camelot will have no heir. We will have no destiny."
Kilgharrah sighed and looked down in thought. "A weapon forged with my assistance will have great power."
"I know."
He turned his head at my brother's statement and said sternly, "You do not know. You can only guess. You have not seen what I have seen. If you had, perhaps you would not ask this of me."
I looked confused and asked, "What are you talking about?"
"In the wrong hands, this sword could do great evil. It must be wielded by Arthur and him alone."
Merlin nodded his head as he comprehended what the dragon was saying. "I understand."
"You must do more than understand. You must promise."
"I promise."
Giving us a hard glare, Kilgharrah said firmly, "Not good enough."
I felt both eyes on me and a sharp chill scraped down my spine when I realized he was talking about me. I knew I had to redeem myself from my last mistakes.
"I swear on my life and my previous life that only Arthur will use this sword," I said firmly.
Kilgharrah stared into my hazel eyes before nodding his head. I could tell Merlin was confused when I said 'previous life' but he didn't question it. I watched in awe as Kilgharrah started to breathe fire on the sword. I felt a comfort wrapping around me as the heat of the fire radiated off the now enchanted blade. When he was done, there it stood… Excalibur!
I was amazed when the sword floated to me. I gently grabbed the handle and stared at my reflection in wonder.
"Excalibur," I whispered to myself. I am literally fangirling right now. I AM HOLDING THE ACTUAL LEGENDARY SWORD! I looked up to see both Merlin and the dragon staring at me. "What? This is a magic sword, and it needs a name. I think Excalibur is a perfect name!"
"Heed my words. The sword was forged for Arthur, and him alone," the dragon warned us.
I handed Merlin the sword as we rushed up the stairs. "Merlin, you go ahead. There is something I need to take care of first."
Today was the day of the battle between the prince of Camelot and his dead uncle. I couldn't sleep a wink last night. I was standing next to Gaius, waiting for Merlin's return. I could tell the crow was getting worrisome. I spotted Morgana and Gwen from the stands. Morgana gave me a strained smile before whispering something to Gwen.
Tristan was still standing like a statue, waiting for his opponent to arrive. I heard someone running behind me and I looked to see it was Merlin.
"Well, is he coming?" I asked concerned.
Merlin looked behind me and replied, "He's here."
I turned swiftly to see Tristan's opponent walking to the battlefield with grace and boldness. My heart swelled and my eyes expanded. Arthur was here and in his hands was the sword of Excalibur! It worked! My plan worked and I've changed the story!
I swear I saw Arthur gazing at me and my wrapped hand as he passed me by. "You demon knight! I am here to defeat you and send you back where you came from," Arthur said firmly.
"So, you decided to come to seal your fate," said the Black Knight.
Arthur glared as he replied sternly, "The only one who will die today is you."
I looked up at Uther's chambers to see he was banging on the window as his face was steaming red. I smirked as I recalled what occurred before.
My heart was pounding as I stepped into Uther's chambers. I timed it just right so Uther would be distracted by Nimueh in the Council Hall, but the nerves still rattled me as I searched for the pitcher. There, on the table! I quickly walked over and took the bottle of sleeping potion out of my pocket. I quietly placed three drops into the liquid and smiled as it dissolved without a trace. If I was going to make sure this episode changed for the better, then Arthur had to fight the Black Knight. I turned around to leave and gasped when I heard the door open. I searched frantically for a place to hide and instinctively dove underneath the bed. I held my breath the moment I saw Uther's feet walking into the room. I watched as his kingly boots walked to the table. I could hear him pouring water into a goblet.
'That's it your highness, drink the potion and go to sleep. So, I can get out of here!' I thought to myself.
I closed my eyes when he walked to his bed and hoped the mattress wouldn't sink too low when he laid above me. I swear to God, I am never doing this again. About an hour later, I could hear a horrible noise. It sounded like a wild boar trying to run down a hunter. I giggled when I realized that noise was Uther's snoring. Finally, he was asleep! I slowly crawled out from under the bed and stood up. I smiled when I saw Uther was dead asleep. As I tiptoed out of the room, I remembered to grab the keys to his room. Making sure no one was in the hall; I exited the king's chambers. I closed the door before I placed my hand on the doorknob.
My eyes warmed as I hissed out, "kisa nota grattas!" I smirked at the feel of the knob heating up and clock into a magical lock. No one from the inside or out will open this door until Arthur killed the Black Knight.
I smirked as I watched a guard remove Arthur's cape. I knew Uther was trying to get out of the room, but his attempt would be in vain. I held my breath as the battle began. Tristan swung his sword at Arthur's head, but thankfully the prince blocked his attack. I held my breath as the swords clashed with each other. It was amazing to see Excalibur in action. I mean, I've read the story about King Arthur and the Round Table, seen the musical Camelot and watched this episode so many times, but nothing compared to seeing it in real life!
I grabbed Merlin's hand when Arthur suddenly knocked off Tristan's helmet. I gasped at the sight. Women in the crowd screamed from fright. Mothers were covering their children's eyes from the horror. Evan Morgana and Gwen stood up from their seats. Tristan's face was not human. He was freaking mummified! He screamed like a banshee and continued to swing his sword at Arthur. I looked to my right as my eyes widened when I saw a familiar face. There in the audience was Nimueh. She was smirking as she was going to witness Arthur's death.
I covered my mouth when Arthur fell down and lost his sword. Tristan kept slamming his sword like a barbarian at Arthur while he was trying to protect himself with his shield. All of a sudden, Tristan's sword cut right through Arthur's shield. Thankfully it was stuck. If Arthur didn't get his sword soon, Tristan would surely kill him!
"GET UP ARTHUR," I screamed.
As if he heard my voice, Arthur kicked his shield at Tristan, making the zombie knight stagger backwards. Without hesitation, Arthur immediately grabbed Excalibur and ran Tristan through with his sword. I gasped and grabbed Merlin's hand for support. My eyes widened when Tristan started to scream and shake like he was having a seizure! There was a hole and fire blazed inside Tristan where Arthur pierced him. Suddenly, the Black Knight exploded, knocking Arthur right off his feet. Tristan was gone. Arthur removed his helmet and slowly stood up.
The crowd burst into cheers, celebrating the young prince's victory! Morgana and Gwen were hugging each other. I was jumping up and down with happiness. He did it! Arthur smiled at the crowd, waving at everyone around him, while keeping a hold on Excalibur.
Later that night, I decided to tell the dragon the good news. Merlin got held up by not only Gaius but Arthur too. Let's just say, Uther was angry. His door 'magically' unlocked when Arthur killed Tristan. He and Arthur had a huge argument and now Arthur was taking his frustration on Merlin, meaning more chores for him to do.
I walked down the tunnel to where Kilgharrah was apparently waiting for me.
"So, the young traveler returns to my imprisonment." I glared at him before he continued to say, "Did Arthur live?"
"Yes, he did. The sword was powerful, and it worked," I answered.
The dragon smirked and said, "As I promised."
I looked at him sternly and said, "But there is something I need to tell you." He looked at me patiently as I continued to speak. "In the show, Arthur didn't use the sword. Uther got his hands on it and wielded it to defeat the Black Knight."
Kilgharrah lost it! He started to scream and blow out fire. I had to duck down while trying to avoid the scorching flames.
"Wait, Kilgharrah let me finish!"
"The sword was born of the old magic. You have no idea of its power. In the hands of Uther, it will bring only evil," shouted the dragon.
"BUT UTHER DIDN'T USE THE SWORD THIS TIME!" That got his attention. He stopped his hissy fit and looked at me stunned. "I made sure Uther was trapped in his room so Arthur could defeat the Black Knight and he did! Arthur used the sword, not Uther! You see, I've changed the episode for the better! I've changed the fate of this episode!"
Kilgharrah's mouth dropped wide opened in total shock. I smirked up at him. Make the overgrown lizard speechless… CHECK!
"You changed fate?" I smiled as I nodded my head. The dragon smiled before laughing. "This is incredible! I am extremely surprised."
I looked down at my shoes as I fought hard not to blush at the compliment. I cleared my throat before telling him the real reason why I was down here. "However, you were right about one thing." He tilted his head and looked at me curiously. "There are some things in this show that I cannot change. I have to do what Merlin did and hide the sword."
"Why? Arthur used the sword. He used the sword for good."
"But if someone else gets their hands on the sword and not Arthur, then it will be disastrous! It needs to disappear from the evil in Camelot. Kilgharrah, you need to trust me."
He took a deep breath before saying, "Very well, take the sword far from here and place it where no mortal man can ever find it." I nodded my head before leaving. I placed my foot on the first step when the dragon's voice stopped me. "Samantha, I want to apologize for what I said to you before. I should have never accused you of failing to try to save everyone. I brought you here for a reason and you are not a burden to this world."
I didn't respond or look back as I continued up the steps. I rushed into the armory to grab the sword.
After riding on my horse for at least an hour, I finally reached my destination. Before I left, Merlin asked if he should come with me. However, I told him I had to do this alone, and he should keep an eye while I was gone. I dismounted my horse and grabbed Excalibur. I could hear the soft sounds of rushing water. I was memorized when I saw Lake of Avalon. It felt so calming just standing by the water.
I looked at the enchanted sword and said, "I will see you in the season 3 finale, Excalibur."
I took a deep breath before I threw the magical sword into the lake. I knew I made the right decision. As I walked back to my horse, I realized something. I could always try to change the show for the better, but there were some things I should never change for the greater good. It's better to go with the flow.
AND FINALLY FINISHED THIS EPISODE! What do you think of the new change of the episode and are you ready for the next episode? Until next time,
