I was supposed to release this saturday but I was away and the phone app was fucking up. So if that ever happens again, visit my Wattpad for the latest update in case i'm late again. ~IIAPOLLYII~
"Do not fear the God who threatens man. Fear the man who threatens God."
It took Percy close to an hour to get back to camp. He had to deal with many annoyances along the way including Hermes who tried to converse with him in the elevator but it turned out he was just trying to steal his wallet and an idiot taxi driver who wouldn't take him to the camp address because "There was nothing out there." It was hard for him not to slap that man with the flat of his sword but eventually Percy finally arrived at the place he called home for the past five years. He stumbled up the hill in a drunk stupor as he had many drinks throughout the night. Why in the name of Hades did he drink that much? He didn't even like the wine to tell you the truth. Finally cresting above the hill, he took in the sight of the dimly lit cabins and big house with the sandy beach in the background. It was a beautiful sight to behold, one that Percy never failed to admire throughout his time there. "And it might be the last time you'll ever see it." A tiny voice said in the back of his head. With a start he realized that might be true. If he could get others to leave with him with Poseidon's help, he might never experience this view ever again.
Percy didn't know how to feel about that. After all he had called this place home now for half a decade and to leave it just like that was almost heartbreaking in a sense. He hadn't experienced the friendship and memories anywhere else besides camp and didn't know if he could do that again anywhere else. Suddenly, Percy was shaken out of his thoughts by a deep growl to his left causing him to branish Riptide in a flash.
"Gods above, Peleus. Don't ever scare me like that again." Percy exhaled as he sheathed his sword. Peleus let out a grunt of sorts that Percy assumed was laughter. It was embarrassing in a sense to be laughed at by an animal but he was just glad no one was there to see him jump in fright like that. "Yeah laugh it up bud but one of these days you'll pay for your antics." The son of Poseidon responded while petting the large dragon. He couldn't remember the last time he had seen the big ol dragon. It must've been before he was kidnapped by Hera. The thought of that Goddess immediately damped his mood and made him remember why he was here at camp in the first place. He needed to talk to the others tonight so that they could discuss what to do about their future. With one last pat on Peleus's snout, the son of Poseidon made his way towards the Zeus cabin where Jason was temporarily taking residence before heading back to Camp Jupiter. At least he might be unless Percy could convince him otherwise to abandon his duties and leave the eyes of Olympus.
Thinking about it now, this plan of his was really crazy. What demigod, in their right mind, would leave the relative safety of their camps to go out into the world filled with monsters and live without the protection of Olympus. Percy supposed only the crazy and the ones who hated the Gods would actually go with him. And even then who was to say they wouldn't succeed in escaping Olympus and just be brought back or worse, killed for treason. There was a lot that could go wrong and Percy had no idea how to prevent that if he did go through with this plan. He hated to admit it but maybe he should just leave it up to the Fates.
With a million possible scenarios running through his head, the son of Poseidon failed to realize that he had finally arrived at his destination, the Zeus cabin where Jason was currently inhabiting. Knocking on the door quietly, Percy took a step back to make sure no one was watching or the harpies were patrolling near him. Those damn birds were really persistent about the curfew rules and would make no expectations to even Percy.
"Jason, open up." Percy whispered, knocking on the door again with a little bit more force. That son of Jupiter could sleep like a log thanks to the numerous concussions he managed to receive this past year. Another two minutes passed by and Percy was beginning to wonder if he would have to barge his way in, Zeus's anger be damned, but thankfully the door finally opened revealing a disheveled, almost unconscious, Jason Grace.
"What in the Gods name are you knocking on my door for at three in the morning, Percy?" The son of Jupiter yawned.
"Meet me at Zeus's fist in thirty minutes. I also need you to gather any others you think might have agreed with us when we spoke in the throne room earlier." Percy commanded before taking off.
"Wait wait, What? Percy, I don't know what you're trying to do but back in the throne room I was drunk and frustrated when I said all that stuff, ok." Jason responded, grabbing his cousin's shoulder. Percy turned back around with a determined glean in his eyes.
"Jason, what you and Will said back there was exactly what I've been thinking ever since I fought Kronos. I thought I was the only one, besides Luke, who could understand why I feel this way about the Gods. To have others share my sentiments made me not feel alone for once."
Jason was about to interrupt but Percy held up his hand and continued.
"I can't speak anymore because there might be unwanted listeners. Just meet me at Zeus's fist, I'm not asking for you to agree with anything I say. I'm just asking you to listen and then you and the others can make your own decision." He said before disappearing into the darkness. The son of Poseidon pondered if he should've asked Annabeth to tag along but a little voice in the back of his head said that wasn't a good idea. From her reaction earlier in the throne room, it seemed she did not share the same sentiment as he and some of the others. He didn't want to bring anyone with him that didn't agree with his ideas, even Annabeth. Because if he were to do so then he along with the others could be killed by the Gods.
Finally arriving at the rocky cliff Percy began to make a fire and wait for the others. He made sure he stretched out his senses just in case there were any unwanted listeners. That was a new trick he had developed during his time in Tartarus. There were monsters practically around every corner and there was no way of knowing considering it was such a dark place. So in order to avoid the monsters he would use the water particles in the air to see where the disturbances - in this case monsters- were. Perks of being the son of Poseidon. Standing at the edge of the cliff with the blazing fire to his back, Percy looked over the camp that only had the dim lights of the big house to illuminate it. It was strangely peaceful which was something he hadn't experienced in a long time and probably wouldn't experience for much longer. With the soft wind blowing against his hair, the son of Poseidon closed his eyes and let his thoughts carry him. There was so much riding on this plan of his and so much that could go wrong. What if the others didn't even want to come with him? What if the Gods found out and decided to execute him? There were so many what if's that it made his head spin.
"Deep breath, Percy. Just take a deep breath." He scolded himself. It wasn't good to let his mind drift like that. With all that has happened throughout the years, it wasn't good for him to let his thoughts go crazy because that typically led to panic attacks. Sitting down watching the night sky, Percy waited for thirty minutes before finally he felt the first disturbances of water vapor in the air. He counted eight which surprised him. Jason really pulled through with gathering others that might go through with this plan. Now, however, was the hard part. Convincing them to come with him and face the dangers of the outside world without the aid of the camps or Olympus.
"Hope that's you, Jason or else I might have to kill all of you." Percy interrupted the silent night, a noticeable bronze sheen from a pen coming out of his pocket in the process.
"Easy there, Jackson. No need to send us to the underworld tonight." A man's voice he recognized as the son of Jupiter replied while appearing from the woods. Behind the blonde man stood nine others. Frank, Nico, Will, the Stolls, Leo, Piper and Hazel. Percy was surprised Jason had managed to grab a decent amount of people despite the hour of the night. However, he could tell the others were annoyed because of being awoken at this hour, namely Piper who hated to be awakened from her beauty sleep.
"There better be a good reason for this, Percy." Piper yawned while trying to direct her best glare at the son of Poseidon. The other demigods muttered in agreement as they sat down next to the fire, hoping to obtain some of the warmth they had left behind in their beds. Percy was the last to sit down before beginning to lay out his plan. He noticed how the fire softly swayed against the wind, clinging to the wood as if it didn't want to be blown away by the breeze. Perhaps it was Hestia listening in, he wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. He didn't mind however, he trusted Hestia to not spread word about the conversation he was about to have.
"I'll just cut to the case since I know you all are tired after the ceremony on Olympus." The son of Poseidon began as he tried his best to make himself comfortable on the rocky cliff. "I want to leave camp." He said with determination leaking through his voice. He wasn't sure before if he really wanted to leave the place he had called home for the past five years but now that he had actually voiced it there was no doubt in his mind that that's what he wanted. The others all looked at him as if he had killed a puppy, giving him a look of both shock and madness.
"What!?" The Stolls were the first to respond, yelling so loud that a flock of birds fluttered from the tree branches into the night sky. Percy shushed them, hoping that the night patrol guarding camp hadn't heard them. He would rather not be on cleaning duty for the next month.
"What the fuck do you mean, Perce?" Jason asked with just as much confusion written on his face as the others.
"You know exactly what I mean. I want to leave this place." He replied, gesturing to the dimly lit camp behind him. "I want to escape from the hands of Zeus and the other Olympians. I'm tired of being their pawn, tired of seeing my friends die and tired of them just running us ragged so they can idly sit on their thrones as they watch us suffer for entertainment." By now Percy's eyes were a murderous shade of green which had the fire reflected upon them, scaring all those that dared to look at him. Piper was the next to speak, shifting uncomfortably on the ground as she tried to look at Percy.
"I can understand your frustration, Percy. I really do. But what does you leaving camp have to do with us? Why would you even tell us such a thing?"
"I can tell you all this because I trust you not to speak of it and you all have everything to do with this as much as I." Percy replied but only gathered confused looks at his statement in response. Continuing on he started to walk around the fire. "I saw all your faces on Olympus when Will, Jason and I were talking about the Gods. I could sense your hate for them and all of Olympus because of what they've done to you. All they put you through. Don't you want to escape that? Don't you want to live out the remainder of the days doing what you want to do? Don't you want to live without looking behind your back every second, hoping that Gods aren't asking you for something or that a monster is lurking waiting for a chance to eat you alive." By the end of his speech Percy's eyes were burning with sheer determination. He truly wanted this and he wanted to help the others too. He wanted to grow old with his friends and see their children playing together. He didn't want to serve Olympus any longer and only waited until the day his luck ran out. He's sacrificed too much to just die doing another quest for the Gods.
"Percy, this is too much. I can't believe we're still even talking about this. Sure it's ok to release your frustration out on the Gods sometimes but to actually leave camp and escape the eyes of Olympus. It's impossible and it's stupid!" Leo replied as he kindled the fire with his hand. "Who would leave camp, one of two of the only safe places for demigods, and risk death. We wouldn't even make it out of the state before we are either killed by monsters or caught and returned to Olympus which by the way we'll be tried with treason and killed."
The others hummed in agreement with Leo. Sure Percy wanting to leave camp and escape Olympus sounded great and like a fairytale but that's only what it was. A fairytale. What shocked them was when Percy only laughed in response to Leo's statement. It had been a long time since they heard the son of Poseidon laugh and it quite frankly freaked them out. It sounded almost like a mad man's laugh.
"That's where you're wrong, Leo. That's where you are wrong." Percy replied ominously. The others felt anxiety swell in their chest as Percy said that. What could he possibly have done?
"What did you do, Percy?" Frank asked with apprehension in his voice. He knew that Percy was capable of many things. Leaving camp and escaping Olympus wasn't the hardest thing to accomplish in the legendary Percy Jackson's eyes.
"What if I were to say I got a God, an Olympian, to help us escape. Would you all be more willing to come with me?" Percy replied. He knew what he was asking was unfair and scary for the others. He wouldn't force them to tag along with him on this dangerous expedition. But he desperately wanted them to. He wanted to help them live in peace no matter what and if the only way to do that was to escape Olympus then so be it.
"You found an Olympian who would help you!?" Jason exclaimed. Percy's only reply was a nod of his head. Jason chuckled in amazement at his cousin's audacity. To ask a God, a Oylympian no less, for help to escape Olympus was crazy and foolish. Yet, Percy always seemed to pull the impossible off. Sensing that Percy wasn't going to tell them which Olympian was helping him, although he had his own guesses, Jason continued. "Say you do have an Olympian to help us escape. What then? How would we even survive out there? Leo's right, monsters would be on us before we even know it."
"Jason don't even entertain this stupid idea!" Piper exclaimed with a huff. Jason dismissed his girlfriend with a wave of his, waiting for Percy to reply to his question.
"We'll have protection from this God as we travel. As to where we'll go I think I have an idea but I'll have to discuss it with said God later." He replied, liking that he could see some excitement forming in some of the group's eyes.
"There's a lot riding on this Percy." Will cut in. "We have to worry about monsters following us and we have to worry about the Gods watching us. One little slip up and we're dead." The son of Apollo said. He liked that Percy had a God backing him and his plan but there were a lot of what-if's. "But if you can really promise us that this God can help us then I'm in." The group gasped as they listened to Will. They couldn't believe that the son of Apollo would actually agree.
"If Will's going then I am too. I trust you Percy. Always have and always will." Nico said. He was already going to agree with Percy's plan in the first place. It wasn't like he had anything holding him down in camp besides Will and Hades wouldn't mind if he left the underworld for a bit anyway. Percy gave a nod at the duo before looking over at the rest of the group. It would take a little more convincing for them to go along with this.
"You said you had an idea about where you might want to go. Where exactly is it?" Jason asked.
"Alaska. The land past the Gods's influence." The son of Poseidon replied, causing Frank and Hazel's eyes to widen. They were reliving the last quest they went on with Percy and safe to say it had them worried. Although Alaska wasn't in the range of the Gods's eyes that didn't mean the same for monsters.
"Percy, you do remember our last quest there right?" Frank questioned with a disbelieving tone.
"I do but I believe that to be a great spot for us. Don't worry though. I can get our contact to get us some sort of artifact similar to the camp's protection barrier to protect us when we settle. Shouldn't be too hard.' Percy replied with a lazy wave of his hand. He was sure his father was capable of delivering such an item and if he couldn't then he was sure there was a way to protect them from monsters. Maybe Hecate could deliver. She owed him a few favors anyway. This answer seemed to calm down the couple as their shoulders visibly relaxed.
"Let us think about it, Percy. It's a lot to take in." Frank said. Hazel nodded her head in agreement before scooting closer to the fire for warmth. Percy supposed that was the best answer he could get from them.
"I can't believe some of you are actually going through with this!" Piper interrupted with a furious look on her face. "There's so many things that could and WILL go wrong with this plan. We'll be labeled as traitors and hunted down by the Gods and monsters alike. We'll be leaving our friends and family and for what!?"
"To escape war, Piper." Percy replied with an unsettling look. "To escape the Gods's controlling us like puppets. To escape seeing my friends who I love die for nothing. Don't you want to just leave it all behind and live out your life the way you want to?"
"Percy, you're seeing things through a very crowded lens. Just because we're leaving Olympus behind doesn't mean that life will suddenly get better. We'll always be looking behind our back, wondering if the Gods are hunting us. We'll always be wondering how our family and friends back at camp are doing. And worse of all Percy, I don't see Annabeth in this mix. You just got back to her after a year of being missing and now you're just going to leave!? Leave her behind and make her wonder where you went this time. That's so fucking selfish." Piper exclaimed. Silence enveloped the group after the daughter of Aphrodite's tirade, leaving only the sound of firewood cracking and popping to fill the air. Percy suddenly gained a somber look, the fire in his eyes illuminating the green embers inside.
"Piper, a wise man once told me that everyday is a risk. You step outside, you risk your life. You take a sip of water, you risk your life. Everyday you risk your life. You don't have a choice. The only thing you can do however, is choose what you risk your life for. And I choose to risk my life for this. I choose to risk my life for freedom for me and my friends."
By the end of him speaking he could tell that the others agreed with that. The stolls were smirking while nodding their heads. Jason's eyes were filled with determination and Leo's hair gained a new flame on top. Piper still seemed angry at the matter at hand but calmed down a little.
"And don't you ever say I'm selfish when it comes to Annabeth, Piper." He said, the fire now dancing angrily in his eyes. "You don't know the things I've done to protect her. The things I've done with these hands and this sword." He said, playing with his pen in between his fingers. Piper quickly looked away from his glare before speaking once more.
"I'm not denying that, Percy. Gods, you fell into Tartarus with her. But how can you tell us you're leaving camp and not even include her into the conversation. Don't you want her input as well?" She asked.
"Of course I do. I'm going to talk to her tomorrow. She will come with us. I know she will."
"And what if she doesn't?" Leo chimed in. "What then, Percy? Will you still leave or will you stay?"
"She'll be with us. I know she will." Percy whispered with a distant look, refusing to answer the rest of Leo's question. Truth be told he didn't know if she would agree with his plan or not. She's very prideful when it comes to dealing with Olympus with her being the lead designer for the city and all. But maybe if she would listen to what he has to say, all that he has said tonight, then maybe she would see reason. If she didn't then he really wouldn't know what to do. He loved her with all his heart and didn't want to leave her but he couldn't stand another day of being the Gods's pawn. But he'll worry about that later when he actually speaks to her. For now he needed to convince the rest
"Travis. Conner. What do you think?" He asked the brothers who had remained silent for most of the conversation. He would really like for them to tag along. They would need their expertise in stealing just in case things got bad. Hopefully it shouldn't because of his father helping but it was always good to have a back up plan.
"Well the plan sounds great and all, Perce." The brother said in unison before Travis slightly punched his brother.
"But we have others to think about as well. I don't know if I could leave her-them." Travis answered, trying to mask his slip up. Everyone knew however who Travis was referring to. Katie Gardner. The two have still yet to ask one another out but maybe in the near future it'll happen. They seemed closer after the last war which was a good sign to things progressing.
Percy smirked at his friend's embarrassed look. "Travis, I never said that it could only be you all that could come with me. I only picked all of you because you're my best friends and seemed to share the same thoughts about the Gods. You can bring whoever you want with us, just make sure you keep it on the down low and make sure you think they'll be one hundred percent on board if you tell Katie-them about it." He replied, mocking Travis's slip up. The others have a chuckle at Travis's red face but the Stoll paid no heed and instead jumped to his feet in excitement.
"Really!? Thanks man. If that's the case then Connor and I are definitely on board. Isn't that right, bro."
"Yeah, it's fine. You can bring the love of your life with us while I'll just sit in the background and suffer." Connor replied with an exasperated sorrow tone. Travis elected to punch his brother again after that remark.
"What about the other Romans? Will you ask them to come along?" Jason asked. He would like it if he could take some people he knew from the Roman camp along with him. They would do well out there and they would definitely need the help if they were to survive in Alaska
"We can ask some of the Romans later only after we arrive in Alaska. I don't want word of this spreading too much before we leave. After we settled wherever in that state we can message some that might want to tag along."
"When would we leave?" Will asked.
"In two days at midnight. By that time I'll have that God pick us up and we'll leave from there.
Jason nodded his head before getting up from his seat by the fire. He shook Percy's hand before grabbing Piper and leaving the group, heading back down towards the camp. He and Piper had a lot to talk about it seemed. Hopefully the daughter of Aphrodite would see reason but Percy was optimistic that Jason could convince her. One by one the others began to leave, either wishing him goodnight or telling him that they'll have an answer before the night they left. Percy watched them leave before it was he and only one other person sitting by the fire. The crackling of the wood was the only thing that filled the night air.
"What's your answer, Leo?" The son of Poseidon asked the elvish looking boy who only continued to play with the fire in his hand. He hoped that the son of Hespestus would agree to come along. They would need his expertise in building.
"I don't know man. It's a lot to take in and a lot of risk." Leo responded with an unsure tone. Percy could understand the guy's hesitance. There was a lot of risk along with this plan of his but it was a risk that he was willing to take if it meant he could make the lives of his friends better than how it was under the Gods rule.
"There is. I agree." Percy replied.
"How would we even survive, Percy? Sure we're strong but I don't know if we can make it out there even with a God's help." Sensing Leo's apprehension, Percy decided to let the boy in on something he didn't tell the rest of the group when they were still by the fire.
"Leo, I didn't tell the others this but I think I can trust you with it." Percy leaned in closer. "I want to build a camp for demigods. Just like Camp Half-Blood and Jupiter." Leo's eyes widened at that statement. Another camp? How would that even be possible?
"How-"
"I'll figure out a way to make it happen, Leo. And I'll want your help. You're one of the best builders I know. You'll be a valuable member of the group if you choose to tag along." Percy said, playing on Leo's emotions. The son of Poseidon knew that Leo always felt like the odd man out. Always feeling like he offered no contribution even during the quest with the seven. You could call it manipulation but Percy liked to call it wording your words carefully.
"A camp for both Greeks and Romans. Free to do whatever they want and not worry about the Gods." Leo gave a longing sigh. He could build a camp, have his name forever immortalized as the person who built such a legendary place. He wouldn't have to worry about the Gods telling him what to do. He could finally do whatever he wanted. He could finally start his search for Calypso! Percy smirked in victory as he realized he had just reeled in another fish.
"Take your time deciding. You still have two days left." Percy said, already knowing that Leo would agree. He just wanted him to think about it longer so he wouldn't have any doubts. The son of Poseidon patted Leo's shoulder before gathering water and extinguishing the fire. Smoke filled the air while Percy trekked his way back down Zeus's cliff. Although the meeting had gone well there was still much to be done. He had to convince Annabeth to accompany him to Alaska and flee the Gods. He had to meet with his father to get everything arranged and he had to wait for the others to gather some more people to take along. It was a lot but with time they will manage to get it done.
While walking Percy noticed the night sky above him glitter. It was as if the stars were celebrating. Perhaps they realized that something good was finally going to happen to the demigods. Admiring Zoe's constellation, the sight of it bringing a sad but determined smile to his face. "Soon we'll have it, Zoƫ. Freedom."
