Luz POV

King and I wander around the tower until we find a room full of prison cells, each one with a seemingly innocent person locked inside.

" Hey, human! How'd you get out of your cell?" Someone calls. The woman who spoke has upturned hazel eyes, dark skin like mine, and long black hair tied back by a blue band, but a few tufts still stick out in the front. She's wearing a blue grey dress that reaches just above her knees. The sleeves reveal her shoulders but covers all of her upper arms and most of her forearms. She has a pair of black heeled boots that reach her calves, and two pointed fangs.

" Oh, I'm not a criminal." I reply.
She rolls her eyes a bit and says " Well neither are we! The warden likes to throw anyone who doesn't fit into society in here. Like me, I write fan fiction about food falling in love. I like food, I like love, just let me write about it!"

The demon in the cell to her left was locked away for eating his own eyes, even though they just roll back into their sockets afterwards. On the witches right is a tiny creature with a huge nose was put in here for her strong belief in conspiracy theories. But, none of these things are crimes. Strange, but not crimes. Nobody should be imprisoned for being who they are.

Before I can protest that they're innocent, loud, thundering footsteps start to penetrate through the tower. I freak out, grab King, and hide in one of the nearby cells. The man who was storming through the tower must be the warden.
He wears a hooked shaped mask that covers his entire face. Jesus, this is the guy Eda said she'd distract?! How did she intend to do that?!

Eda POV

I fly around the Conformatorium, searching for the Warden. I'm not too worried about Luz. She's a tough girl, and with King by her side, she'll be perfectly safe. As of right now, I need to distract the warden and figure out how to help the kiddo.
I land on a nearby window sill and order Owlbert to stay behind me. I crawl inside and the window and creep around as silently as I can. The last thing I need right now is to get arrested.

After all, I'm going to have a new kid to take care of soon. I just need to convince her to stay here.
EDA! Get your head out of the clouds! You need to focus on the heist right now. Finish this up, get that stupid cardboard crown, and make Luz agree to stay.

Luz POV

King and I stay hidden and silent while the crazy warden talks about how he's going to capture Eda one day. Ha! Good luck with that one, asshole! Eda's not stupid enough to get herself caught by you. Suddenly, the tiny creature with the giant nose shouts that he'll never be able to keep us prisoners.

Oh jeez, that is not going to end well for her. The warden opens her cell and grabs the poor tiny thing in his giant fist. I wince in sympathetic pain for her, but stay quiet. I know when it's best to keep my mouth shut.
I watch as he carries the poor thing out of the room and through a huge door. What is he doing to her? Where are they going.

" Best not to think about it, human." King says. I shudder a bit and start praying to whatever holy entity there may be, that the tiny creature won't be hurt. I know that the prayer probably won't be answered, but it's worth a shot, right?
I wait another few seconds, and then lift the cell door and get the heck outta there.

" C'mon, Luz. Let's go." King says. I shake my head and attempt to lift the lever that's trapping the woman. She smiles a bit and says " Kid, follow the dog before you get into trouble. Enjoy freedom for us."
NO! I can't just leave them! King tugs on my hand, and I realize that I really can't do it. Once again, I'm useless.

King POV
Why is she so determined to help everyone that she sees? Doesn't she know that this is how people get hurt?

Eda POV
Ha, perfect! I find the warden, and he's already distracted torturing some tiny creature. That means Luz, King and I are free to break into the contraband room. This turned out to be so much easier than I thought it would be. I summon my staff and fly off to find Luz and King, wherever the two are. I hope that they're safe.
