Watching Saphira take each mouthful was a strange joy Freddy was feeling. He wanted every bite to be full of joy. But that did remind him that Saphira mentioned she has not celebrated her birthday before. He has never heard that before, and it bothered him greatly. That made him want to give her a birthday she deserved. Sure, she was not a kid, but it appeared to him that she has not experience a lot that kids experience here. Perhaps by being here, she had the chance to do it. Even while she was on duty.
"Honestly…I need to know how the cakes are made like this, because they are so soft and delicious," Saphira commented with a smile. "I am a good cook, but baking cakes…no, I leave that up to the people who can make them."
"Your compliments are very welcoming Saphira. We enjoy knowing that. We did get awarded for having the best pizza and cake in the city last year, we may get that again." She nodded as she was thoroughly enjoying the donut, even though she was almost finished. "Can…uhhh…can I ask you something?"
She turned her head with how he asked the question, her eyes questioning him silently before swallowing the piece of donut and licking her lips. "Is it an awkward question?"
"It might be. It has been bothering me ever since you mentioned it." She tilts her head curiously, wondering what she had said that was bothering him. "Your birthday…" She widened her eyes in surprise and rolled them, sighing deeply and turning away from Freddy. "When is it?"
"Why does that even matter Freddy?" Saphira grumbled as she focused on the donut in front of her. "I often find myself forgetting my birthday anyway. When I remember, I just buy a cupcake…if I can afford it."
"Do you think you don't deserve to celebrate it?" Freddy asked curiously, frowning slightly as he wanted her to enjoy her life as much as she could. He did not know much about her past, but he wanted to know it. It never mattered to him about a human before, but Saphira was different. He felt differently about her. "Why would you not think that?"
"Because nobody has ever thought it worth celebrating!" Saphira snapped, glaring at Freddy for a moment and realized she snapped at him as she was projecting her own pain. He was shocked by her response though. "S-S-Sorry…I didn't mean to snap…but it is true. Nobody has cared. So why should I care?"
"I care about it. Does that not count? Or…is it because I am…an animatronic, you don't think that matters?" Saphira opened her mouth to speak before closing it and glanced away to think. Freddy had his answer, her not answering straight away told him she still thought of them just as robots. Even if she was treating them with respect and as though they were human. That thought was still there. "I suppose…at least even though I am just an animatronic, that is still better than how any human has treated you."
Saphira pondered on the question, she should say no. But…why? He's done nothing but try to be her friend…just as a human would. Her heart felt like it was betraying her, but she looked at him with a smile. "You know what? You are right. You wanting to give me a good birthday does matter. To hell with humans."
"Uhh…I guess so." She chuckled a little as Freddy didn't quite understand her quote. "But I am glad. So please, tell me the day of your birthday so we can celebrate it. I know we primarily celebrate children parties, but I think it is overdue for you."
"Well…my birthday…" Saphira frowned as she thought about it. "I was born in…October, that much I know." Freddy was truly shocked she did not remember her birthday. He watched her grab her phone to pull up the calender, she scrolled through it quickly. "Ah, the third of October is my birthday." She glanced at Freddy with a smile, but saw he was frowning at her sadly. "Is something the matter?"
"Nobody should ever forget their birthday. I remember the day I first woke up well, I consider that my own birthday." Oh that was a surprise, Freddy knew when he first woke up in this place. She wondered what that was like. "Believe it or not, I remember it well. It was the 30th of July. I have been around for nearly eight years…I suppose in a sense, I am still a child in human years. But I remember mine well."
"I imagine there is always a celebration around that time," Saphira said and Freddy nodded, smiling as he knew how big the celebration was. "Well…I suppose that will be celebrated before my birthday. That is a good thing. Personally…I am not sure how to even celebrate my birthday. I have enjoyed the loneliness of it."
"Oh nonsense! I don't believe that for a second. You will see, you will have the best birthday of your life. And if you are here next year, it will be the same." Next year, he was already thinking about it. Saphira could not answer that, but she somewhat hoped for that herself somehow. "You also mentioned never celebrating Christmas, Halloween and Easter…that will change while you are here."
Saphira giggled and finished off the donut, picking up the serviette and wiping the remains of the red velvet donut and cream from her lips. "You are too funny Freddy. But I look forward to that anyway."
"So do I." Freddy glanced at the desk as Saphira threw the plate away and sipped more of her drink. "Now…we have a fox to cheer up. We have about an hour to cheer him up before the end of your shift."
Is it that time already? Saphira glanced at the time and saw it was four thirty. Time really flies here, but than again, Saphira was overcoming her fear regarding Moon. Although, she did glance at the door with worry. Freddy was quick to notice that, he hoped she would not refuse.
"I will be right with you Saphira. Moon is not going to do anything to you. I promise." He extended his hand and Saphira flinched, glancing at the large hand and he retracted it. She had grabbed it earlier, but she was still afraid. "Nevermind. You can walk by me."
Saphira felt like an idiot for that. She sighed and stood up with a smile. "Yes, let us go." She held both hands out together, he frowned at her slightly. "I…I am still jumpy. But I will take your hand…I think I'd prefer it."
His eyes light up and she saw his ears move up as he smiled, this made him super happy as he extended his hand slowly. Saphira felt her body wanting to pull her hands back, but she refused and stepped closer to grab the massive hand. She was actually surprised by how warm it was to the touch. She actually had not paid attention to this detail, even while working on the bots in Parts and Service. But she was in work mode, so detail like that was easy to mix. And the surface was so smooth and slick, Saphira found herself rubbing her thumbs in the palm gently as Freddy walked towards the door. The gesture might be small to her, but to Freddy, he found himself loving that feeling. The tips of her thumbs were so small and gently, the way they rubbed in a circular motion on his palm was soothing. He was happy that Saphira allowed him to hold her hands though, it was a massive step forward for her. And to Freddy, it felt like their friendship was now truly beginning. There were still a lot of things to learn about her, but Freddy looked forward to learning about it all. He wanted to know why she had to leave her family in the first place. There must have been a good reason for it. Plus, she had learned self defense, that meant she had felt unsafe before and needed to learn it. Freddy has not yet seen Saphira's skills, though while he usually did not condone violence, he was a little curious to see it at some point.
"Somehow, this place feels colder." Freddy looked at her in surprise at the comment. She was frowning a little as they walk across the atrium towards the entrance to Rockstar Row. "Sorry…you probably can't feel it."
"No, I cannot…well…not in the same way as you. You see, we don't feel immediate temperature changes, but we do notice extreme changes." That made sense, their bodies were equipped probably withstand a certain temperature. "However, it is strange that you feel cold. The building is at a constant temperature."
"Yeah I know…maybe it is just me feeling cold. But your hand is very warm, I imagine the rest of your body it." Freddy nodded silently, not wanting to admit that he was feeling very warm internally right now. "Eh…that sounds weird."
"Weird? I do not understand." He glanced at her slightly with a curious frown. She smiled slightly and giggled a little. "What is so funny?"
"Nothing…don't listen to that. Ignore it okay?" Saphira bit her lip a little. However, they walk past a cleaner bot cleaning a spill, and one of the wet floor sign bots turned towards her suddenly. She gasped and moved behind Freddy as the sudden movement startled her. "The most harmless thing here is just as bad!"
Freddy chuckled gently at Saphira. "I am sure you will get used to them. They often look at people to make sure they can see the sign. It's probably the best way to alert people there is wet floor. Before these bots were made, there were a few twisted ankles."
"As startling as they are, it works. So I am definitely not complaining about that." Saphira huffed a little to calm herself as they approach the door to Rockstar Row. She did not know how the other animatronics were, but for the moment, that did not bother her. "I don't have a good idea on how to cheer up Foxy."
"I am sure you can think of something. We…we ourselves have never found a way." Oh great! If they could not, how could she cheer Foxy up? "But Foxy likes you a lot. So…you never know, you might find something."
"Yeah…" Saphira than thought about a song that might cheer him up. "Hmm…I think I do have an idea…it might look silly to you though."
"Silly? You could never look silly to me." Freddy was curious now what she had in mind because he saw the change in her expression. "As long as it makes him happy. Will I be able to join in this idea?"
"Well sure! I mean…it requires some dancing, but that is pretty much it." They walk into the dark corridor of Rockstar Row and they approached Foxy's room. Saphira saw Foxy sitting on his couch, he was resting his elbows on his knees and his hands were resting on his cheeks. "Okay…I just hope he does not mind the company."
Foxy glanced up when he noticed movement and waved at them slowly, still showing how sad he was. However, he widened his eye when he noticed Saphira hold Freddy's hand. That made him curious as they enter his room. "Argh! Did you find ye self a fine maiden Freddy?"
"I suppose I have," Freddy responded with a chuckle. Saphira lets his hand go and she began to glance around the room. "We have come to see how you were doing. You look…well…like you were last time."
"Aye! I hate not havin' me hook!" Foxy complained, glancing back down at the floor. "I never feel me self when I don't have me hook! It is a part of me that they take! I know it is for safety…but…argh!" He glanced up when he noticed Saphira picking up a pirate hat and trying it on. "What are you doin' lass?"
She glanced at him with a smirk, adjusting the hat slightly and put her hands on her hips. "Since when did a captain just sit around huh? Ye know…when pirates sailed the world, they would sing when they were feeling blue. Now I think you should sing too."
Foxy rolled his eye and shook his head. "I don't even feel like singin'…not even for the show Friday."
Saphira scooped up a plastic sword and plush parrot, smiling at both while Freddy watched Saphira curiously. "Are you sure about that?" She tilts her head slightly and swings the sword around playfully. "Yo, ho, yo, ho, a pirate's life for me." Foxy's ears twitch slightly and he looked at her curiously. She tilts her head slightly as she began to sing in a slow, low voice. "We pillage, we plunder, we rifle and loot. Drink up me hearties, yo ho!" She spun around and tossed the parrot over her shoulder playfully, swinging her hips to the side slightly. "We kidnap and ravage and don't give a hoot. Drink up me hearties, yo ho! Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me!"
Foxy began to tap his foot along to the song, Saphira's voice was a surprise to him and Freddy. Freddy could only stare at Saphira as she moved her body to the song she was singing, he found himself entranced by it and he also began to tap his fingers on his hip lightly to give a beat to the song.
"We extort and pilfer, we filch and sack! Drink up me hearties, yo ho!" Saphira skipped and began to dance in a circle, clapping her hand on her wrist gently and moving her sword around like it was an extension of her arm. "Maraud and embezzle and even highjack. Drink up me hearties, yo ho! Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me!"
Foxy began to smile, he was enjoying this song, he began to nod his head before standing up to join Saphira's dance circle while she continued with the song. "I love this song!" He cheered loudly, glancing at Freddy. "Come join the fun Freddy!"
Freddy blinked as he was caught in his daze of watching Saphira and smiled, watching the two dance while Saphira continued to sing and he quickly began to join in. "We kindle and char and enflame and ignite! Drink up me hearties, yo ho! We burn up the city, we're really a fright. Drink up me hearties, yo ho! We're rascals and scoundrels, we're villains and knaves. Drink up me hearties, yo ho! We're devils and black sheep, we're really bad eggs. Drink up me hearties, yo ho! Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me!"
Although Saphira was having a good time, the heavy thudding of the animatronic feet around her scared her, although she tried not to show it. But she began to repeat the lyries and Foxy was quick to join in and he suddenly grabbed Saphira's hands to twirl her around like they were in a waltz. Saphira squealed in surprise, but she giggled loudly as he caught her so she did not fall over and she jumped away from him and looked at Freddy with a big grin on her face. Freddy was so happy she was having such fun, she did not know if she had this much fun before. She jumped towards him and suddenly placed the hat on his head, he was surprised and pulled it off quickly because it looked weird on him.
She giggled at him because the response was cute. "Aw! Well, I had to see how it looked!" She shrugged and glanced at Foxy as he skipped to his piano and began to play a tune for the song. "Oh wow! You caught the tune very easily!"
"Of course! But you really brin' it with yer voice! Why did you never say ye could sin'?" Foxy asked exictedly as he played the tune. "Yo ho, yo ho! A pirate's life for me!"
Saphira did not think her voice was that good. It was not bad, but it was not that great either. The animatronics might think that because they were just being nice. But she was having so much fun, dancing with Foxy and Freddy was not something she thought she would ever do. And…this was something she does not remember ever doing. It was fun. It was strange to have fun.
"Shall we keep partying?" Freddy asked with a smile. "Perhaps we can recruit the others." Saphira stopped at Freddy's suggestion, a room filled with dancing animatronics sounded more like a horror show than fun. He noticed the change in her expression. "Scratch that, I think that would be too many. Two is enough."
"Sure is." She appreciated that Freddy quickly retracted that idea, she swung her hips to dance to the tune and glanced at the time briefly because she did not want to lose track of time. But there was plenty of time and she scooped up the hat to place on her head and stopped, holding out her sword towards Foxy. "Argh! What do we have here mate?"
Foxy stopped the music, surprised Saphira said something a kid would normally say. "What did ye say to me lass?" He smirked, pulling out his own plastic sword. "Are ye challengin' me?"
"Maybe." Saphira shrugged. "I think I should. These swords are here for a reason right? To allow a challenger in to fight you."
Freddy was surprised by Saphira's sudden playful stance and stepped back to give them space. Foxy walked towards Saphira slowly. "Well, well…everyone who challenges me always lose. Are ye prepared to lose?"
"Are you?" Saphira challenged, holding up the sword ready to fight him.
"Uh oh, over confidence…hmmm, never fails." Foxy chuckled before lunging the sword forward to duel against Saphira.
Saphira giggled as she swung her sword to hold her ground against Foxy. She was surprised by how gentle he was being too, she expected him to hit the sword out of her hand, but it was obvious he would not do that. He was being fair, and she did not mind. She took a surprise swipe at him though, catching him off guard and he smirked at her. He lunged closer to swipe at her, but Saphira bends back slightly, she gasped as she had to place her hands behind her to keep her from falling. She glanced at Freddy, seeing him upside down and winked at him. Freddy had almost stepped forward to catch her, worried she would hurt herself, but she managed and by surprise, she kicked her leg up to knock Foxy's sword out of his hand.
"What the..?" He exclaimed in surprise as the sword hit the ground. Saphira stood up, holding the sword out to him with a smile. "Ye…ye be me!" He smiled at her in disbelief. "I…well…you did kick a plastic sword, that isn't part of the rules ye know."
"I know." Saphira chuckled, tossing the sword to the ground and breathed deeply, waving her hands a little to cool off from the activity she just had. "I just wanted to have a bit of fun…for a change."
"Ah, well I am glad ye are happy. It was like ye are bein' a child. It is good." Foxy stepped forward and held his hand out to her. "Thank you lass. I needed a good time. Me hook…I am still sad…but not as bad."
Saphira took his hand to shake it, knowing that he had a good time and he was feeling better. "Anytime Foxy. Now I got to work out how to cheer the others up when they're sad."
"Good luck with that lass. Monty is the hardest. Unless ye are Bonnie of course." She chuckled, nodding in agreement with Foxy. "Although, ye won't have a trouble with Freddy. He seems to be happy with whatever you do. Same with Chica."
"Yeah well…" Saphira glanced at Freddy for a moment with a smile before looking back at Foxy. "They're easier to get along with. You and Bonnie are easier too. Roxy and Monty…I am still working them out. Though I think Roxy and I are okay."
"Yeah, she has been not happy that ye were punished for helpin' her. But she can be out tomorrow and spend time with the kids. That is what matters the most." Foxy stepped back from Saphira before he began to sing again. "Yo ho, yo ho! A pirate's life for me! I love this song!"
"Just don't sing it to the kids Foxy." The animatronic stopped in surprise when she told him. "It's not really something they need to hear. Plus…I think the place would be in trouble if you sang it. Considering there is a big company out there that owns that song."
"Ohh…okay, then it will be our song!" Foxy declared happily. "No one else will hear it but us. I promise lass!"
That was good, the last thing this place needed was a copyright fine. Saphira was happy she was able to cheer Foxy up, with plenty of time left to spare. Now she wanted her soda again, she felt sweaty from dancing with the animatronics. She actually could not believe she even danced with them. But she has let her guard down with them tonight, after all, Freddy did help her with Moon and Foxy was not as scary to her like the others are.
"Good. I am sure we will have our own private parties more often. As long as I don't get in trouble for it." Saphira did worry about that, but considering it was in Foxy's room instead of in the atrium, it should be fine. "I sort of feel like I am pushing it a bit."
"Maybe, but nobody has ever done this with us before," Freddy said, getting Saphira's attention again. "Sure, we party with the kids all day and that is still fun. But…no one has ever taken the time to actually have fun with us. Like you." She glanced away wondering if it was really wrong. "And that has made this a very special night."
"I…I never realized. I guess my birthday isn't the only thing that we have to fill is there?" Saphira smirked as she looked back at Freddy. "You can enjoy life just as much as me right? And I can try and bring it to you too."
"Of course. Within reason yes. I look forward to many more occasions." Freddy was overjoyed to hear Saphira would actually do more with them. She might still consider them just as animatronics, but…that was changing rapidly. Just three days ago, Saphira saw them are scary robots. Now…it was different. "Your next shift will be great too."
"I hope so. As long as I don't fall on my tail bone." Saphira rubbed her tail bone gently. "It still hurts from landing on it."
"Oh…I did not realize. You probably should rest."
"Don't worry, the pain will go away Freddy. Hopefully I haven't damaged my back in the process. Buuuut…" She glanced at her Fazwatch. "I should get back to do my final security rounds anyway. There is not much time left for that. So…" She glanced at the door for a moment and gasped as the lights suddenly go off. "Shit!" She stepped forward and grabbed Freddy's arm. "Not again…"
"He will not hurt you, we can wait here for the lights to come back." That was a good idea actually. Saphira did not want to deal with Moon right now. "He is not foolish enough to come here while you are with us. You are safe with me."
"You should recharge though…" Saphira was worried Freddy had ignored recharging because she did not know if he would deactivate. "Foxy can watch me. Go recharge, you skipped it at the last our didn't you?"
"No, I was fully recharged. I still have enough power to last through this last lights out. I will recharge once you are safely back in your office." She hoped he was telling the truth. She did not want him to skip recharge for her. "You will see us before you leave right?"
"Of course. That would be stupid not to." She smirked at him and jumped when the glow of red eyes peered through the window. She glanced at Moon who seemed very disappointed that Saphira was with Freddy and Foxy. "How does he know where I am all the time?"
"Your Fazwatch gives away your location." Of course it does…Saphira glanced at it wondering why that it. "It is a safety precaution. There was an incident at an old location that required such a device, even though they seemed to fail at that time."
Saphira wondered what incident that was. There had been numerous establishments, and she was surprised Freddy knew about some of the incidents. She thought about asking him about it, but he might only know the vague details as well. So perhaps it was better to just leave that question to be answered by another way. She winced when the lights suddenly come back on and Moon was gone.
She rubbed her eyes and shakes her head. "Okay, now we can go." She smiled and looked at Foxy. "I hope you will have a better day today now that you've been cheered up."
"Of course lass! Now go, get out of here!" He chuckled playfully and began to play A Pirate's Life for Me tune on the piano and danced to it.
Saphira walked with Freddy out of the room to head back to the atrium. "I still can't believe I did that…"
"What do you mean?" Freddy asked curiously, glancing at Saphira as she rested one hand on his arm this time, walking towards the atrium.
"I danced with animatronics…never done that before." She seemed ashamed of even saying that. "Honestly, I shouldn't have said that. But…I also have never done that before. I don't know if I should feel stupid for it or not."
"Having fun is never stupid super star. Do not ever think that." She hummed in response to him and Freddy wanted to know why she felt that. "Did…did something in your past make you believe fun is bad?"
She glanced at him in surprise at the question. Saphira felt her throat tighten suddenly and she felt tears threatening to fill her eyes. That was a question she did not want to answer. She shakes her head and glanced away from him, biting her lip as she didn't want to talk now. Freddy observed her reaction, something DID happen. And it was bad. Bad enough that she won't tell him. Not yet at least. Freddy felt bad for making her upset and relive a bad memory, but he did want to know. He said nothing more to her as they walk across the atrium to the office.
"Thank you…" Saphira's voice was shaky as she spoke to him, she does not look at Freddy as she moved to walk away. "I will fine from here."
She closed the door behind her once she stepped inside the office. Freddy lifts his hand slightly, wanting to knock to go in and give her a hug. But his ears lift as he heard the sound of soft crying behind the door. He did not mean to make her cry, but he desperately wanted to hug her and let her cry it all out. But now was not the time. Freddy hesitantly returned to his room, he kept his promise to recharge his system once he returned and waited for Saphira to come by the rooms before she left the pizzaplex. Thirty minutes pass, and it was ten minutes to six. Freddy stood by the window of his room, waiting patiently for Saphira. He heard the door of the Rockstar Row hall open and he smiled to himself, she had kept her promise. Waiting without moving was so hard, he wanted to walk out to greet her. But when she arrived at his room, her eyes were slightly puffy from crying. She smiled slightly at him and gave him a brief wave, she said nothing to him on the Fazwatch like he expected and she left. Freddy watched her leave before taking a heavy seat on the couch, slouching slightly as he thought on what he could to make up for making her upset. He wanted her to be happy.
