A/N: I added some extra stuff to chapters 11 + 12, feel free to check it out!

She loved him. No, she needed him. Misa wanted every part of Light to be hers. And she would have him, one way or another.

Y'know, I was getting real sick of the TV basically changing my life every morning. I just wanted to wake up and watch Hideki Ryuga, like I did back when I was a regular old middle schooler.

I had half a dozen messages from Mei, all talking about Kira's… well, uh, television appearance.

What are you gonna do, Sayu? She wrote.

Honestly, I didn't have a clue. This seemed… weirdly out of character for Kira? I'm not sure how to explain it, but it didn't feel like Kira.

Not sure, I replied, simply.

I flopped onto the couch. I had a million assignments to catch up with, a million people to revive… and a million hours of sleep I'd missed.

"How are you feeling?" Light asked, walking over to me.

"What the hell is happening," I whimpered, eyeing the news.

"This is an unusual turn for Kira," Light admitted.

"What are they doing…?" I asked.

Light furrowed his brow. "All this talk of justice… what a hypocrite."

"Gosh, you're acting as if you're personally offended," I snorted.

"Hmph," Light breathed out. "Well, that's what I believe justice is, and Kira - if it really is them - is going against it."

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.

"I'll get it!" Mom chirped. She opened the door, letting out a gasp.

"Light, it's for you!" she called.

Light raised his brow, going to answer it.

"Hi there," a girl's voice, "I'm glad I found your place, Light!"

Gosh, her voice was so loud! She was pretty short - she couldn't have been any taller than me. She had pale skin and mid-length blonde hair tied into little pigtails. Like a goth, she wore all black. She was familiar… where had I seen her before?!

"She's pretty," I told Guardian.

"Do not fall for more charms," Guardian warned.

"Oh, come on, I said she was pretty!" I hissed. "I didn't say I was in love with her!"

"Why are you here, dear?" Mom jumped in.

"I just had a notebook to return to Light," the girl replied, tilting her head, "my boyfriend."

Mom and I audibly gasped. WAIT WHAT?!

Light tensed up. He brushed my shoulder as he walked past, heading to the front door.

"Thank you," he smiled at the girl. To the untrained eye, it would've looked like a sweet smile, but I knew him better than that. He was. Pissed. Off.

"Oh!" Mom chirped. "Why don't you come in, dear? What's your name?"

"Misa Amane, Miss Yagami," the girl bowed her head.

Ah, I recognised that name!

"Whoa-" I jumped in. "As in- Misa Misa? The model?!"

She was a pretty well known model with a ton of fans. I'd always loved her photoshoots; girls fawned over her outfits and guys fawned over her looks.

Misa nodded. "That's me! It's nice to meet a fan."

Wow, Lightie sure knows how to pick 'em, Ithought.

"Why didn't you tell me you were dating her, Light?!" I asked my brother.

He shrugged. "I don't need to tell you every bit of my personal life. You should get a boyfriend, Sayu."

"Gross!" I stuck my tongue out. "No way!"

Mom sighed. "My kids are growing up so fast!"

"Do you guys mind if Misa and I talk upstairs?" Light asked, voice all sweet, the tone he used speaking to adults.

"Of course, of course!" Mom clapped.

As we watched them head upstairs, Mom was chuckling.

"So, when are you getting a boyfriend, Sayu?" she asked.

"Mommm," I groaned.

I felt sorry for Guardian, who looked like they wanted to be anywhere else.

I headed upstairs to my own room. I kind of wanted to listen in on Light and Misa's chat… but I'd done too much snooping already.

"You are too young," Guardian told me.

"Huh?" I asked.

"For dating." They said.

I burst out laughing. "Okay, so I'm old enough to have literal god powers, but I'm 'too young' to start dating?"

"Retain some of your innocence," they told me.

"You're a freaking weirdo," I flopped onto my bed.

I stared at my phone. Even though there was no way in Hell I was getting a boyfriend anytime soon, I was feeling pretty lonely. So, I did the next best thing, texting Mei…

I leaned against Mei's shoulder. She put her arm around me. We were in her room, schoolwork scattered around.

"Grandpa's been doing well," she told me. "He doesn't remember much about being dead… he said he just feels like he woke up from being asleep."

"Really?" I asked.

"Thanks for bringing him back, Sayu," she smiled.

"My pleasure," I grinned.

Of course it wasn't a pleasure. But it was nice to see Mei happy.

"… what are you going to do about those messages Kira sent?" Mei asked.

"I don't know yet," I admitted. "But… I don't think Kira sent them."

"What?!" Mei asked. "But they killed people on TV! Unless…" she gasped. "There's another Kira!"

"Yeah," I nodded.

"It's even more dangerous now, Sayu!" Mei sobbed. "One Kira was bad enough!"

"I…" I clenched my fists. "Welp, then I'll have to work overtime!"

Despite my tone, I was feeling the opposite of optimistic. From the way Mei was looking at me, she could see right through my bullshit… as usual.

"Sayu…" she held my hand.

My heart was beating. We were staring into each other's eyes. Her parents and siblings were out of the house, leaving just the two of us.

I'd found a lot of boys cute before. I would've married Hideki Ryuga in a second. My friends and I were always giggling about the boys in and out of our school. I never really opened up about it, but I kinda sorta felt the same way about girls. And maybe, just maybe, I felt the same way about the girl sitting opposite to me.

Ugh. As if my life couldn't get more messy. Here I was, falling in love while the whole world was being screwed around by people with magic notebooks. I could practically feel Guardian's million eyes leering into my back.

"Something pretty bad could happen to us," I told Mei.

"I know," she sighed, "but it's too late to go back now. We're in this together."

I felt like a tomato, my cheeks burning so bad. I squeezed Mei's hand, biting my lip.

"I love you," I blurted.

She stared at me, eyes wide.

"Uh," I laughed. "I mean, like, platonically! As a Bestie! Hahaha!"

She kept staring at me.

"I'm sorry," I looked away, "I… I don't know what I'm saying, I…"

Mei put her hand on my chin. I couldn't look anywhere else but her face.

We shouldn't be doing this, I thought. I'm not a normal person.

That didn't stop us from kissing anyway. And just for a moment, it was only the two of us.
