Hiccup and Elsa strolled through the Great Hall amongst dragons, happy Vikings, and tables laden with food. They all had a smile on their faces, just watching as the people of Berk allowed themselves to grow with dragons. This was something that they never thought was imaginable, but they helped make it a reality. They still had a long way to go and a lot to learn, but they were slowly getting there.
He passed a table with Fishlegs, who had a baby Gronckle in each hand and had reverted to baby talk. "This is the best holiday ever! Who's a baby? Who's a cutie baby?"
Beside him, Snotlout was petting one of Hookfang's children, occasionally jerking his hand back as the dragon let out a burst of flame from its mouth. Beside the table, a couple was scratching a Gronkle under the chin. Two children were holding mugs of cocoa, a baby Zippleback between them trying to steal a sip. One small girl was dragging around a grumpy-looking Terrible Terror that was almost as big as she was. Olaf however was messing around with Toothless and Luna's children as they ended up stealing his nose and even twig arms, making him chase them to get them back.
"This is..." Hiccup didn't know how to describe the sight.
"Exactly what dad wanted us to do." Elsa couldn't believe how they managed to bring Stoick's last wish to life.
The mention of Stoick for the first time got them wondering where he was. It wasn't right that he was out there on his own but there wasn't much they could do. Nobody knew where he left to or even where he ended up. There was no way they could just track him down as it would be impossible to do so.
"Yeah." Hiccup just agreed with her, seeing this is what he wanted. For them to stop the war and allow the two species to live in peace. "So...did you find the answers you were hoping for?"
Elsa knew that question was coming sooner or later and sighed. "I found answers..." she then wondered how to explain. "They're just not what I was hoping for."
"How so?" Hiccup wonders, becoming worried when he saw that scared look on her face.
"Hiccup..." Elsa was still worried but looked up at his eyes to show this is all true. "I have a sister..."
Snoggletog came and went, followed by a new day that was bright and snowy. Hiccup was woken by the house shaking again. No roaring accompanied it, but the couple in the bed instantly knew who it was. Instead of groaning and trying to hide under the covers, Hiccup immediately got up, yawned, and jumped out of bed, ready to meet Toothless outside.
They were going to be heading back to the Edge today, the others planning to follow up soon to get back to training. But Hiccup and the girls thought it'd be best to get a head start to get home and learn how to be prepared for three new babies they didn't necessarily plan to have on the return trip. Not to mention they wanted to see what they could find out about Elsa's past.
At the front door, Hiccup paused to look at the village. It had snowed overnight, and every surface was covered in a thick blanket of whiteness that was about a foot deep. It made the whole village look fresh and new. An impatient roar from behind the house brought Hiccup back to reality.
"I'm coming, Toothless!" Hiccup called, smiling and hopping down the steps. "All right bud, come on down, we've got a long journey..." He stopped and stared. "Ahead..."
Toothless wasn't on the roof. He was sitting on the ground, staring at Hiccup expectantly. His old saddle and tail fin were spread out in the snow in front of him.
Hiccup had a moment of confusion as he looked at the old saddle, wondering why (or even how) Toothless took it out. "Toothless, what'd you pull this out for?" He shoved the saddle out of the way with his boot. "You don't need this anymore." He walked up to Toothless's side and prepared to mount him. "C'mon, let's get going."
But Toothless quickly got up and moved away from him, turning 180 degrees and sitting back down in front of the old riding equipment.
Hiccup shook his head in confusion. What was going on here? "Would you quit fooling around? You have your new tail now," he said, trying to mount Toothless again and failing as Toothless ducked away once more. Hiccup smiled uncertainly. "Toothless!"
Toothless glanced down at the equipment, then slowly hunched down and held up his tail. The new fin slowly fanned out with a soft clicking noise. It was perfect. The measurements weren't off even by a little bit. The material would last for years to come. It wasn't only the gift of a new fin; it was a gift of freedom.
Toothless lifted the tail higher, looked Hiccup in the eye, and without any warning at all, began to whip his tail against the ground, smashing the fin as hard as he could.
Hiccup's eyes widened in shock. "Toothless! Stop! What are you doing?"
A dull snap came from the fake fin, and Toothless kept shaking his tail frantically until the fin detached itself and was flung ten feet away into a snowdrift. Hiccup stood there, staring in disbelief. In less than ten seconds, a full night's worth of work had become undone, and Toothless had thrown away the one thing that enabled him to fly freely.
Why? Why was he doing this?
Toothless gently took the old saddle in his mouth and tugged it across the snow in front of him. He left go of it, looked up at Hiccup with wide eyes, and patted it with his front paw.
So many things were said with one simple action.
Hiccup just stared, barely daring to believe what Toothless was saying.
And slowly he started to smile.
Hiccup and Toothless levelled out in the air, looking over to the right where they saw Windshear and Heather riding alongside. Then even over to their left where they saw Elsa and Luna, followed by their little babies that the group decided to name Night Lights. Olaf was hitching a ride on the back of Windshear whilst Bruni stuck alongside Elsa as they kept on their journey home.
One of them even did a plasma blast and ended up flying through it, going invisible in the process similar to their mother. The humans has a laugh about that and continued on through the skies. Making their way back home where they were going to introduce the Night Lights to their new home on Dragon's Edge.
But there were a lot of things that still needed to be addressed soon. Elsa remembered where she was from, had a glimpse of who she was, and had a name of her sister.
She needed to know if her sister was out there. If Anna was still alive.
