So, to say that their day ended terribly was sort of an understatement to what happened to the Riders. They found Elsa's old home, Arendelle, which was scorched and burned to the ground. Then they found the trolls, which led them to Ahtohallan, saying that they could learn the past from there. Elsa indeed finally remembered everything that happened, but it also ended with her trying to learn something else. When she went too far, it ended with her turning into ice. Not to mention due to her death, Olaf also ended up disappearing and dying alongside her.
Things were not going their way.
When they returned to the Edge, Hiccup got to work trying to find out what kind of dragon Elsa showed them. He and Heather carried the statue of ice back to the Edge using Windshear, Toothless, and Luna. It took some work to get Luna away from the glacier since she didn't exactly want to leave without Elsa.
And since they needed a translator, they also called Fishlegs and others in for this situation to find it. They needed to hurry up and find out what happened to Anna so that they could save Elsa. It was too late to save Olaf, but they needed to try and find something they could about this dragon. But after days of searching for answers, there was nothing found on the specific dragon.
"I've searched all of Borg's papers from Gobber and the Book of Dragons." Fishlegs was sorry to tell Hiccup as he entered the clubhouse. "Sorry."
Hiccup kept on trying different kinds of fire and different kinds of Dragon Eye lenses and dial turns. "And I'm not getting anything that looks like the dragon."
"Ugh, if only we knew the kind of Dragon Class this creature was," Fishlegs said with a sigh.
"Well, I don't have it!" Hiccup cried in anger, throwing the Dragon Eye across the room and knocking it against the wall, and crushing his desk. But in doing so, another lens came rolling out of the drawer.
"Did you check this one?" Tuffnut asks as he gestured to the lens.
Hiccup picked it up and was shocked he completely forgot this one. "Oh, my Thor! This is one that Elsa and I found in the caverns, I completely forgot about it."
"I tell you to take better care of your stuff." Heather couldn't believe he'd lose something as important as that.
Hiccup quickly used the lenses and placed them inside the Dragon Eye. When he did, he got an idea when he looked over to Toothless and the statue of the dragon.
"Toothless, let's give this a try." Hiccup called his dragon over.
Toothless walked over and he started to use a low flame on it so that it could light up the Eye. When they watched it light up, they saw a few different versions that they haven't seen before.
"Ooh, this is exciting!" Fishlegs said as they watched Hiccup combine the characteristics.
Hiccup then finally got the image as they got a similar-looking dragon to the one Elsa described in the statue. "That's it! Fishlegs, do your thing!"
Fishlegs knew that this was important and quick to work on trying to translate the language. "Uh, let's see. The dragon is known as a Swiftwing."
"Cool name," Tuffnut commented.
"Congratulate it later." Hiccup asks of him. "Fishlegs?"
"The Swiftwing's fire blast has an appearance very similar to a Night Fury's it seems. It can breathe purple and blue colored blasts and has a shot limit of three. The blast is charged with energy, creating sparks and shock waves on impact." Fishlegs was trying to recap all he was reading. "The shock wave is powerful enough to push a human several meters away, but not enough to kill until reaching adulthood."
"So the younger it is, the less deadly." Astrid recapped what he was saying. "Seems the one that saved Anna was an adult."
"Punch me, because I must be dreaming," Tuffnut asked his sister, who immediately obliged and punched him.
"Swiftwings are some of the fastest dragons in the air." Fishlegs continued to translate. "They also appear to be very agile, being able to make quick turns at dense speeds."
"Okay, this is all fascinating, Fishlegs, but we need something useful to track it." Hiccup asks him to find something more useful.
"Let's see, migration, nesting areas, feeding habits, mating pattern..." Fishlegs recalled everything.
"Wait, wait, what was that last one?" Hiccup asks him.
"Mating pattern?" Fishlegs asks.
"No, nesting areas." Hiccup stated as he saw that was an area they could start. "If we found out where this thing lays its nests, we could find out where it brought Anna."
"Fishlegs?" Heather called out for him to translate it.
"Hm..." Fishlegs started to translate it and started to try and figure it out. "Seems that it likes to lay its nests on sea stacks up north."
"Sea stacks? There are tons of those around the area of Arendelle." Heather commented, seeing that didn't narrow it down.
"Then we should start there and just keep heading north, that nest had to be somewhere around there." Hiccup stated as he quickly raced to get ready to head North.
"Man, he is in such a rush," Snotlout commented as Hiccup called Toothless to him.
"Well, let's see, his sister is currently frozen, he just lost Olaf, I think he has a reason." Astrid defended their want to rush into the mission.
Hiccup raced to Toothless with speed and need to get going when he noticed Luna. She was laying outside of Elsa's hut and refused to move without her Rider back. He walked over and caressed the dragon's head and knew she was missing Elsa.
"I know, girl. We'll get her back, I promise." Hiccup promises Luna, scratching her chin. "You stay here and watch your hatchlings. We'll be back."
Luna purred as she complied with his statement and licked him. Hiccup chuckled and backed away, knowing that he needed to get going to search for Anna.
Toothless leaned down and allowed Hiccup to climb on top of him. "Come on, Bud. Let's rescue Elsa."
Then with that, they flew off into the air and met up with the other Dragon Riders as they flew off into the air. They were making their way out north and knew they needed to keep their eyes out for any sea stacks.
Speaking up north, a few things were in effect as there was a group of dragons currently trying to find the home of a nest of eggs that they found. One of them was carrying the egg of a Wave Glider egg back to its nest. It was a bit difficult due to the storm which was the reason they found it.
The group of dragons was a group of six. A younger Swiftwing, a Fastfin, Rockspitter, a Relentless Razorwing, and a Featherhide.
Fastfins are a four-legged, medium-sized species of dragon. It has a long neck, a thin body, and an eel-like tail, which makes it perfectly adapted for an underwater environment. It has a crown of triangular-shaped spikes on its head and small peg-like teeth. The dragon has webbed feet, which helps it while swimming, but lacks claws. It has bigger front legs than back legs and a long, thin tail. It has two relatively small wings, which are better suited for swimming than flying.
The Swiftwing is, as established, a four-legged dragon. Except the last one was much larger as this one was half the size of Toothless rather than equal in size. It has a large, round head with two horns pointing backward. Unlike most dragon species, who have horns made out of keratin, Swiftwing's horns are bone structures covered by skin. The dragon has a small crest on its forehead, a round flat snout, and peg-like teeth. The Swiftwing has two wings with a relatively short width compared to the body size. It has a long tail with two fins towards the end and two triangular spines near the fins. The Swiftwing has muscular legs, each having four claws. The front legs appear to have an opposable thumb, similar to a human's, which can be used to better grab objects.
The Rockspitter shares many traits with Gronckle in many respects. But a few of the differences is that it has four stomachs: one for digestion and the other three for storage. They are very compact dragons with color on their bumpy hides and pale underbelly. They have a very large mouth relative to the rest of their bodies, and extremely small wings. Their tail is very bludgeon-like, forming three distinct segments. Juvenile Rockspitters also have two enlarged fangs on their mandible.
Relentless Razorwings have a large head compared to body size. They have a bronze-brown body with darker brown mottling, as well as a golden-yellow undercarriage. Sharp knife-like spikes crown their heads and travel in a single row down the spine to the tail. The trail itself ends in a single butcher-knife-like point.
Featherhides have long legs with fins behind them, a long neck, a big rounded head, and big eyes. They also have a crown made of feather-like scales, with brighter colors on the ends. Featherhides lack any horns or spikes, except with one spike in each wing. They have long wings compared to their body size, and their tail ends with a large fin, with a shape similar to that of a peacock tail. Their teeth are small but sharp. They come in a variety of colors, typically having two or more on each dragon.
But it wasn't the dragons that got things interesting. It's who was on the dragons.
There was a young boy with bright red hair and green eyes. He wears a sleeveless tunic that appears to be made of deep blue dragon scales with a dark grey, short-sleeved shirt underneath. Atop his left shoulder is a metal pauldron. He also wears leather trousers, fleeced boots, knee guards, and leather armbands. He also has a cut through the end of his right eyebrow.
There was a young girl with red hair tied into a braid over her left shoulder and green eyes. She wears a purple sleeveless vest with a quilted pattern, and a long-sleeve tunic underneath banded in light and dark teal. She has purple arm bracers and fingerless brown gloves. Additionally, she wears a green scarf around her neck, a short studded purple and blue leather skirt, green leggings, and brown boots. She also carries an over-the-shoulder satchel that was similar to the one from the elder of the group, but different in some respects.
Then there was the last of the people and the oldest of them all. She has turquoise-blue eyes, rosy cheeks, thin pink lips, a small nose, long strawberry-blonde hair flowing through the wind with her, bangs down her forehead, and a light dusting of freckles. Her outfit consists of a purple and magenta long vest and a black long-sleeved dress with gold trim, a brown belt around her waist, and gold pants underneath, she accessorizes with long black boots.
Oh, did I forget to mention that they could speak to the dragons?
"Why would any dragon put a nest out here?" The Rockspitter, Burple, asks as he kept trying his best to keep up.
"Wave Gliders put nests on sea stacks so they can see an enemy coming from far away." The younger girl, Leyla, explains to the dragon.
"I guess they didn't count on a storm blowing one of their eggs into the sea." The younger boy, Dak, stated from further back.
"They usually have precautions in case of storms like this." Echo, the Featherhide said from further ahead.
"Well, this is a bad storm. Haven't been one like this in a long time." Anna stated from on top of the Featherhide.
"Good thing that I spotted it!" The Relentless Razorwing, Cutter, shouted in pride.
"Now if only we could find the sea sack with the nest." The young Swiftwing, Winger, stated in annoyance, trying to see through the storm.
"I'll try and take a look from above." Cutter offered, taking off to go higher above the sea stack.
"Wait, Cutter, don't!" Anna tried to warn him from doing so.
But that didn't end well as it only ended with him disobeying and floating above the sea sacks, causing the wind to pick up and send him flying backward. That also in turn caused him to drop the egg, as he was the one who was carrying it.
"We've got it," Dak promised as he and Winger flew up to try and catch the egg. However, that didn't exactly work out thanks to the fact Winger's scales are wet. "We don't got it!"
"Summer, Leyla, catch it!" Anna called out to them.
"We've got it!" Leyla promised as she and her dragon Summer, the Fastfin, quickly moved to try and catch the egg.
"H2, on it!" Summer said as she quickly did a flip, dropping Leyla off on the Rockspitter, Burple, going after the egg.
When Summer flew after the dragon egg, she tackled it at the last second before it hit the water. Switching over to have her hit the water and take the most of the impact, she quickly saved the egg and got out of the water. Carrying the egg in her claws, she flew out of the water and showed she still had the egg.
"Got it!" Summer proclaimed.
"Phew. That was a close one." Echo, the Featherhide, sighed in relief.
Then Cutter came flying down and came towards the group. "Good news is while I was being tossed around up there, I spotted its nest!" He then gestured his head towards a formation just near them. "It's on top of that sea stack."
"Well, that's a relief." Anna sighed from the top of Echo. "We can get the egg back to its family and get out of here."
"But with all of that wind, how do you expect us to get up there?" Burple wonders.
Leyla looked up at the sea stack and got an idea. "I might have an idea."
Using Burple and his four stomachs to help out, he flew up to the sea stack and used his weight as help. Anchoring himself to the ground using the weight of the egg which he ate, he was able to crawl his way over to the nest. The others slowly followed as they tried their hardest to crawl up the sack, they watched as Burple dropped the egg inside the rock nest.
Burple sighed as he saw that he accomplished the plan. "Safe and-"
And then the wind decided to make an upcast of power that sent Burple flying backward. As he went rolling around the sack, he ended up running into Winger, who sent Dak flying off by accident, who ended up running into Summer, who threw off Leyla and landed on Cutter, falling into Echo and sending Anna slipping.
"Phew, thanks, guys." Burple thought that was purposely done to help him.
"No problem, Burple." Anna groaned as she held onto Echo's tail to not fall off the sack. "Now, someone wanna help me?"
They then crawled out of the pile and moved into the nest for cover, putting the egg in the upright position. Anna sighed as she stretched her limbs and needed to walk for a moment. They have been flying around for a while ever since they had that run-in with those Dragon Hunter ships.
"Whew. That was a close one." Anna was happy to see the nest was all together.
"The momma Wave Glider will be so happy when she gets back." Summer said with glee, happy they were able to help the dragon.
Anna then noticed Leyla was caressing the rock formation around the nest. "Dak." She whispered to her little brother, gesturing for him to talk to Leyla. "Go."
Dak looked over and didn't even notice she was doing it and walked over to her. "What is it, sis?"
"I just..." Leyla was saddened by the thought.
"You're thinking of your old nest?" Anna took a guess.
Leyla confirmed it with a nod and pulled Dak in for a hug. Anna had to admit that she agreed with them, missing their original home. When she was rescued by the Swiftwing mother, she was brought to her nest where there was an unhatched egg. That egg would later turn into Winger, but before that, the mother rescued a pair of twins from a shipwreck. Those twins are Dak and Leyla. Ever since then, the three of them have been like siblings to one another. Then their Swiftwing mother was killed and their nest was destroyed by the same people.
Ever since then, the three have been on their own, trying to figure out where they were supposed to stay next. They mostly fly around and sneak to help other dragons in distress. That's when they found Cutter and Burple, as dragons on their own and separated from their families. Leyla actually ended up meeting Summer by accidentally falling off of Winger and into the sea. Summer was the dragon who rescued her, and she was on her own as her pod was hunted by Dragon Hunters. Echo was also an unfortunate dragon who was captured by Dragon Hunters when they found and rescued her. Once they were able to rescue her, they helped heal her back to health and she seemed to have bonded with Anna over that time.
"Me, too," Dak admitted.
Cutter then crawled over to them. "Do you know what I'm thinking about? Let's get the heck out of this rain!"
Anna chuckled and quickly jumped on top of Echo. "He's right. We should get going. We can head to that stone island that we spotted earlier." She knew that it was a short flight to get there. "There are bound to be a few caves there."
"Sounds good to me." Echo agreed as she got ready to take off.
Everyone else jumped on their dragons and got ready to fly with the wind this time around, rather than against it. They managed to fly around and get out of the storm and make their way into a cave they found. Once they made it inside, Burple spat out the last catch of fish that they managed to catch during the day and some pieces of wood.
"So, who's hungry?" Anna asked them as she placed the logs together. "Winger?" Winger quickly used one of his blasts to shoot the logs and got a fire started. "Thank you!"
They started to fade and move past the group and their hiding spot. They then started to try and eat, Anna cooking the fish so that the humans didn't need to eat it raw. However, that didn't stop Dak from trying to do so.
"Dak, you really need to stop doing that." Anna had to admit she was thinking this was gonna end badly. "Can't you just eat your fish like a human?"
"Why would I wanna do that, when I can eat it like a dragon?" Dak asks as he took a chomp out of the fish, trying his best to keep it down. "See?"
Leyla sighed as she knew that her brother wasn't going to listen to either one of them. "There's no use."
"Can't say I can disagree," Anna said as she took a bite from her cooked fish.
But that's when Cutter noticed that something was up and he noticed that something was flying through the air. Making its way toward them, which got him shocked when he noticed that it was a group of dragons, as well as riders.
"Uh, guys, you won't believe what's coming." Cutter warns them.
Anna was curious about what was going on and walked ahead to look outside the cave. She quickly reached into her bag and pulled out a spyglass so that she could see what was approaching, which caused her to be surprised when she saw what Cutter had seen.
"Okay...that's a new one." Anna had to admit.
The figures she was seeing were none other than the Dragon Riders still looking around to find the Swiftwing nest. They have kept going from Arendelle's sea sacks and kept going, looking for any dragon nests that match the Swiftwing dragon style.
"Ooh, I've got a good feeling with this group!" Fishlegs cheered as they neared the sea shacks and the nearby island where they were hiding.
"That's what you said about the last several islands!" Snotlout proclaimed.
"It's not my fault. I am a yak bladder half full kind of guy." Fishlegs defended himself.
"I don't mean to burst your yak bladder," Astrid commented as she flew back to talk to them. "But has anyone actually considered what we planned to do if we actually find this Swiftwing?"
"We could marry it!" Tuffnut has grown attached to the only dragon that seemed to rival Toothless.
"And what about Anna?" Astrid asks him.
"Well, Hiccup could keep her." Tuffnut shrugged it off, not realizing what he was saying. "It would be tough, but I believe she could be a good replacement for Elsa."
"Uh..." Heather noticed Hiccup squeezing the saddle with his fingers. "Tuff?"
"Like a little babe, a child that can be carried, like a lump of clay to be forged." Tuffnut kept going.
"Nobody is replacing Elsa!" Hiccup proclaimed as he looked back at them. "Once we find Anna, we take her to Ahtohallan and hope that she can find a way to save Elsa. We already lost Olaf, we're not gonna lose anyone else."
"Hey, Hiccup!" Heather noticed something on the island, pointing towards it. "I don't think that we need to look far."
Hiccup noticed something too and quickly drew his spyglass and noticed that there was smoke. "Smoke!"
"Could be a campfire." Astrid guessed since there were no trees that could be burning.
"This dragon builds campfires?" Tuffnut asked in shock.
Heather groaned as she flew over closer to Hiccup. "Can you give me the twins serve a purpose speech again, please?"
"Yeah! I've never heard that one before." Tuffnut cried out, wanting to hear that one himself. "I've only heard the twins are muttonheads speech. Which is also very good."
But Hiccup wasn't in the mood for Tuffnut's stupidity and groaned. "Okay..."
He then took off to make it to the island faster whilst the twins were a little behind the others. "Okay, or you don't have to."
They made their way to the island and landed on the ground to start looking around to find the campsite. It wasn't hard to do and they looked to see that the fire had already recently been put out. They looked around to try and find anything that could help them find what kind of designs or people were there.
"Look," Fishlegs said as he picked up some fish bones. "Red herring. The Dragon Eye said that this was Swiftwing's diet."
"So, either that's a big coincidence, or..." Heather saw that there was a chance a Swiftwing was here.
"A Swiftwing was here." Hiccup said as he jumped up and picked up one of the scorched wood around the fire. "And these scorch mark looks familiar."
"So, what's our next move?" Astrid wonders.
"Split up and search the island. They couldn't have We have to find her." Hiccup tells them the plan and knew they needed to work fast. "Fishlegs, you stay here and see if any of them come back. Signal if they come back. They couldn't have gotten far."
Fishlegs gave him a wave, happy to go with that plan. "You've got it."
Then the other riders quickly took off and Fishlegs hung back to watch over the campsite. He saw Meatlug was hungry and picked up some boulders at the sight and tossed them to Meatlug, who immediately started to chase and catch them. But they missed that the group of dragons and their riders were actually hidden behind Echo.
The Featherhide camouflaged herself so that she could hide herself and the entire group within her wings. A little worried about what these people want, they got the idea to try and shake them. They might be able to ride dragons too, but it didn't mean they were going to immediately trust these people.
"You know, Meatlug, ordinarily, I would pretend to be upset at being left behind," Fishlegs admitted as he fed her. "But to be honest, this time I just feel a lot safer being here with yo-"
But when Meatlug wasn't looking, Echo quirky sneaked up behind him and quickly attacked by camouflaging him and herself. Once Meatlug looked back and noticed there was no sign of Fishlegs she got a bit worried.
Up with the twins, they were flying around the island and trying to find the Swiftwing. Except the problem was that the two of them couldn't find their way out of the tunnel.
"Alright, sis, you look left, and I'll look right," Tuffnut said as he looked left.
Ruffnut was a little confused about which way where she was supposed to look. "Wait, your left or my left?"
"Uh, we have the same left. We're twins." Tuffnut reminded his sister.
"Right!" Ruffnut took his word for it and looked right.
Tuffnut didn't take long until he just gave up on looking. "Who are we kidding? We're never going to find this thing."
"All I see are trees!" Ruffnut agreed.
"All I see is my dream of spending my golden years with a Swiftwing vanishing before my eyes," Tuffnut said in sadness.
And just when they were looking in the opposite direction, the Rockspitter came flying out of the trees and spat out some small rocks that knocked the two off their dragon. The two didn't even notice that he was coming and were taken by surprise.
When they were hit, the two were sent falling and smacking against several of the trees before tuff hit the ground of the hard forest. When he looked up at his sister, he started to see double and saw eight versions of her stuck on a branch.
"An eight? That is way too many Ruffnut's." Tuffnut proclaimed.
That's when a branch broke and Ruffnut fell on top of her brother in the process. The Rockspitter flew over and saw they were both left unconscious.
"Phew. That's two." Burple said as he flew away. "Or does it count as one?"
Heather was looking as she noticed what looked to be bootprints on the ground. She bent over to make sure that it wasn't her own or someone else's, but it didn't match any of theirs.
"These tracks look fresh," Heather muttered as she looked around. "Stay sharp, girl."
But that's when something came flying past their heads and into a cave. Windshear quickly sniffed the air and raced after the projectile. Heather watched her run off and was confused about where she was going.
"What? Windshear!" Heather cried as Windshear ran off. She followed her and see she was munching on something which she showed was some sea slugs. "Sea slugs?"
That's when Winger used his blast to quickly shoot the rock formation which began to seal both Heather and Windshear inside. Heather couldn't react fast enough to try and escape as it ended with her needing to shield her eyes from the smoke and dust coming down on them. Windshear did her best to shield her from the falling boulders to make sure she wasn't harmed.
Meanwhile, Snotlout was a bit more confident in searching around and was staying focused on the mission. That however didn't stop when he felt the sudden urge to go.
"Take us down, Hookfang. Hurry!" Snotlout tells his dragon, needing to go.
Hookfang flew and landed on the ground before lowering to allow Snotlout to climb off. Snotlout ran down the hill to reach a few bushes in a hurry.
"I knew I should have gone before we left!" Snotlout cried as he raced into the bushes.
But as he was distracted, Cutter used his tail to cut the trees around him before grabbing them. Snotlout had just missed him when he stuck his head out from the bushes.
"Can't a Viking get some privacy?" Snotlout asks whoever did that.
Snotlout was angered by whatever happened when Cutter releases several logs behind him and they start rolling at the Viking. Snotlout screams and calls for his dragon but it doesn't come as he runs into a river. When he splashed into the water, he was able to avoid the logs, but also was being sent upstream.
"Hookfang!"
Astrid was flying around, trying to keep her eyes open for anything. But there was no way that she could protect herself from something she couldn't see coming. She heard what sounded like a splash from a cove and decided to check it out.
When she flew close to the water, she saw the ripple which meant that something indeed did either enter or leave the water. Then she felt like she saw something moving around in it and leaped off of Stormfly.
"Looks like there's something in there, girl." Astrid wondered what it was. But that's when Summer came splashing out of the water, spraying a blast strong enough to send Astrid flying off a cliff. "Stormfly!"
Then there was one.
Hiccup and Toothless were flying through more rough and dangerous areas since Toothless could navigate them faster. As they were flying, Toothless seemed to pick something up as he snarled upward.
"What?" Hiccup asked as he looked around. "What is it, Bud?"
And that's when he looked and noticed Echo was there when she became visible and her rider clear. Hiccup was surprised as he's never seen a dragon like that before. And then he recognized the girl on her back. It was a much older version of her, but it was nobody else other than Anna on her back.
Anna.
"Nice job, Bud." Hiccup said in happiness, wondering what kind of dragon she was riding. "Now-"
But that's when Echo looked and noticed the Night Fury and quickly warned her rider. "Look out!"
"What?" Anna asks as she looked over and saw the Night Fury. "Go. Go!"
Echo nodded as she quickly flew into the air where Toothless jumped back into flight. Hiccup knew that it wasn't going to be easy to approach her without her trying to get away.
"Alright, we just gotta corner them and...well, let's not get ahead of ourselves." Hiccup said as they tried to get close to the Featherhide. But the moment that they were flying close to the dragon, it suddenly vanished in front of them. "What?"
Toothless stopped and Hiccup was shocked to see another dragon with that kind of ability. The only other dragon they've come across with the power to turn invisible is the Changewings. They both started to look around and figure out where to find the dragon and its rider, neither of them knowing where to look.
"Uh...any ideas, Bud?" Hiccup was more than open to suggestions.
Toothless had one idea as he immediately started to use his echolocation in the area, looking for anything that he could see where they were. But it didn't take long until Toothless was able to notice something in the air. When the echoing screech hit something, it disturbed Echo and caused her to become transparent to the eye, allowing them to see where she was.
"There!" Hiccup cried as they both flew after her.
Except, not knowing anything about this dragon, they didn't know when they got close enough, the Featherhide released a sonic scream. This caused Toothless to cry in pain and Hiccup to cover his ears from the noise, neither of them able to look at her. The Featherhide flew into a dense cove so that they could escape, but Hiccup wasn't going to let her get away.
"No, we can't let her get away!" Hiccup cried as Toothless got to his senses. "Fly, Bud!"
Toothless flew up and tried his hardest to keep up with the invisible dragon, which wasn't the easiest task. Every time that they were to get close to it, the dragon would go defensive and hide so that it could slip away from them. Then by the time they found them again, they would use that sonic scream and set them off.
That's when Hiccup got an idea as he started to notice the pattern that they were taking. They'd run, Toothless will find them, they'd sneak behind them before using a sonic scream, then the cycle repeats. All Hiccup needed to do was interrupt the cycle and he could get her.
When they located them, Hiccup didn't go to chase after her and this time got a look at where they would be and quickly jumped. Anna looked up and heard his scream when Hiccup was coming at her. This wasn't exactly his best idea, but he needed to talk to her alone, without the interference of their dragons.
"Anna!" Echo cried when she noticed her rider starting to fall.
Toothless kept Echo off of Anna's trail for a second as he went gliding so he could land on the ground softly. As with the two of them, Anna and Hiccup slid down a side of the mountain before crashing into the ground. Luckily they were both more durable than they looked and were able to walk it off.
Anna got up and started to try and sneak away when Hiccup was trying to stand. "Wait! Wait!" He groaned as he tried to stand on his only one good leg. "Anna!"
Anna froze when she heard her name and looked over at him, wondering how this guy knew her name. "How do you know me?"
"I..." Hiccup groaned as he grabbed onto a rock to try and stand. "I know your sister, Elsa!"
Anna was now starting to become confused when she recalled her life before. Unlike her sister, Anna recalled everything and knew of her past as a Princess of Arendelle. But she had assumed her sister had been killed when she saw what was left of the kingdom. But this man was saying that he knew her.
"Where is she?" Anna asked as she looked over at him.
"That's what I'm here to talk to you about." Hiccup said as he started to stand on his own. "She's been looking for you for a while. But..." he started to tear up as he remembered what happened. "She went to Ahtohallan for answers and went too deep."
Anna started to worry about what her sister did when she heard Ahtohallan. "I'll help you. But there's something you should know..."
Then came the unfortunate discussion about what happened to his friends.
When they went around and rescued the group from the predicaments they were put in, Anna assured Dak and Leyla that they weren't in any danger. Getting them all together, the group had a few choice words for what they went through.
"You threw me into a river!" Snotlout cried in anger.
"She buried me in a cave!" Heather cried in anger.
"You threw me into a pit!" Fishlegs cried in anger.
"You squirted me off a cliff!" Astrid snarled in anger.
"Guys, guys, can we all calm down?" Hiccup asks of them, seeing the three of them were a little embarrassed. "As far as they knew, we weren't friendlies and were coming after them."
"Yeah, we really should have thought of how to approach them better," Ruffnut said, causing them to look at her as she was waiting for her brother to wake up. "Listening to Olaf rants."
Hiccup sighed as he remembered the snowman, feeling sad that they might never see him again. But they couldn't worry about that right now as they needed to hurry to save Elsa.
"Listen, we're sorry for this. But we've been looking for you for days." Hiccup said to Anna. "Elsa is in trouble, we need you to help save her."
"Uh, if you don't mind me changing the subject, what kind of dragon is that?" Fishlegs asks as he gestured to Echo.
"Oh, Echo's a Featherhide," Anna informed him as she caressed her dragon's neck. "Separated from her family when we found and rescued her from Dragon Hunters."
"Most of them were," Dak said as he then looked and noticed they were confused about who he was. "Oh, right, I'm Dak." He then looked over to his sister. "This is my twin sister.
"Leyla." Leyla introduced herself and started to introduce the dragons. "That's Summer, Winger, Cutter, and Burple."
"Huh..those are... interesting names." Hiccup had to admit.
Heather however knew he shouldn't be one to talk. "You can't really talk with you naming him Toothless." Toothless chuckled at that and had to agree. "So, the three of you guys have been out here on your own over the years?"
"More or less." Anna shrugged. Echo then screeched, getting Anna's attention. "Yeah, I know, technically speaking anyway."
All of the Riders got a little confused by what they were seeing. Seems that the other three recognized their confusion and were wondering why. Then it finally dawned upon them why they would be confused.
"Oh, right." Anna forgot they never explained some information. "Okay, so it might sound crazy, but the three of us can understand what dragons say."
Snotlout chuckled as he elbowed Astrid, spinning a finger to his head to remark crazy. "Right. Understand dragons."
"We were rescued by the mother Swiftwing and Anna from a shipwreck," Leyla informs them, holding her bag close to her.
"And she raised us with her hatchling, Winger," Dak explains as he tapped Winger's wing.
"That's how we learned to speak dragon," Leyla admits to them.
Hiccup wasn't sure if he believed it and he looked to Heather who had the same look. Seemed neither of them knew how they were supposed to the information that they were given.
"Right. You can understand how that's a little hard for us to grasp. Right?" Hiccup asks them.
Leyla then thought of an idea of how to prove it. "Alright. How about this, I'll look away and close my eyes. Hold up as many fingers as you want." She then walked towards Summer who smiled and knew what she was planning. "Summer?"
Hiccup decided to just go with it and did so. He raided his hand and held two fingers out. "Okay."
Summer looked and screeched at Leyla. "Two."
Hiccup had to admit that was impressive, but went with a lucky guess and changed the number to five.
Summer repeated the process and screeched to Leyla again. "Five."
"Ooh, my turn!" Ruffnut cried as she ran over and pushed Hiccup out of the way before holding three fingers. "Okay, do me!"
Summer was a little confused and just went with it. She screeched to Leyla again. "Three."
"Whoa!" Ruffnut said as she didn't bother with it again.
Hiccup just didn't bother going any further and shrugged. Summer looked at Leyla and screeched. "And now she's saying that you gave up."
"Okay, maybe there's something to the whole talking to dragons after all." Hiccup did give up and knew that he needed to hurry.
"Our mother, and Anna, also taught us how to ride dragons," Dak admitted.
"Yeah, a little too well," Anna recalled the reckless stunts that he would do.
"Look, this is interesting." Hiccup was sorry to drag this down. "But, look, we need to hurry. We have to see if there's still a chance to save Elsa."
Anna was worried about if it was too late to save her sister but knew she wasn't going to leave her. "Alright. To Ahtohallan."
They flew off with their new friends and made their way back over to Arendelle. Anna took one look down and wasn't really surprised by what she saw, just disturbed by what had happened to her once home.
"You okay?" Echo asks her.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine," Anna promised as she patted her dragon. "I just hope we can save my sister."
They then followed the Dragon Riders as they flew over and landed right outside of Ahtohallan once again. The same place where they lost Elsa and Olaf, they weren't going to allow this to be the last time they saw each other.
"Here." Hiccup gestured to the entrance. "This is as far as we can go."
Anna understood that this was where she came in and slid off of Echo. "Okay." She then looked over to Dak and Leyla. "You two hang back. If I need a rescue, then I know you'll come."
"You got it," Leyla promised as she stayed on Summer's back.
"Good luck," Dak said as Anna approached the entrance.
Anna got her bearings quickly and knew she needed to do this. "Okay." She took a deep breath and took a first step. "For Elsa."
Anna then made her way inside and Echo crawled up behind her, walking up to the entrance but stopping. All of them hung back and just hoped that this was the right thing to do.
Anna was walking inside Ahtohallan and was trying to keep herself calm. "Every part of me is trembling. I feel it in my soul. Everything is changing. Like a world, I can see but not control." She started to follow the same path that her sister had made for herself downward. "It's like I can sense you here. In a future not alone. I'm returning. And I am finally home..." she couldn't believe that she came back to the island that started her journey after everything. "I have journeyed through the darkness, and all my tears have dried. The light has overcome, and now my eyes are wide. Show yourself. I've been dying to meet you." She was dying to see what her sister had become since the days they were children. "Show yourself. I have been looking for you all of my life. Show yourself. I'm ready to meet you!"
She then reached the giant cavern with the memories and chuckled. She wondered how powerful her sister had become and quickly jumped around the past memories.
"I've never been uncertain. Out of all the things I believed, the one thing I'd never think was you would leave." Anna wondered how Elsa had survived and where she had been all these years. Hiccup gave her the summary, but she wanted to hear do, her sister herself. "Show yourself! I'm ready to see you!"
Anna then saw the hole in the wall and raced over to it. When she reached it, she wasn't hearing the same voices and immediately saw a glow in the darkness.
"Elsa!" Anna cried as she looked down. Getting no other choice, she leaped after her sister and landed aside her. "Elsa?"
She then saw her sister frozen in ice and was starting to worry.
"No, no," Anna muttered as she held her frozen sister. "I...I was too late."
she touches Elsa's face and begins to weep, she then hugs her sister as she cries, not knowing what she was supposed to do from here.
"I'm sorry. I should have kept looking." Anna said through tears.
suddenly Elsa's body starts to unfreeze from the chest outward, coming right back to life. Anna didn't seem to notice until Elsa let out a gasp, getting her attention.
"Elsa?" Anna asked as she separated from her.
"Anna!" Elsa cheered as she pulled her sister into a hug. "Is it really you?"
"It's me," Anna promises as she hugged her sister.
"Oh, we've got so much to talk about," Elsa said as she looked up. "How do we get out of here?"
It didn't take long until they found their way out and made it outside. The moment she walked outside, Elsa was met with cheers and Hiccup running up to hug her.
"You're okay!" Hiccup cried in happiness.
Elsa chuckled as she hugged her brother. "You found my sister."
"Yeah, we did." Hiccup confirmed.
Elsa was looking around, expecting some sort of remote comment from Olaf. But then she looked around and noticed the snowman was missing.
"Wait...where's Olaf?" Elsa asks.
But the answer she got wasn't what she expected.
They put a stone with Olaf's name carved up in it and placed his carrot down on the outside of it. It wasn't much, but they knew that Olaf should be here amongst the memories of their childhood. This is where he was created, so this is where he should be.
"Come on." Hiccup said as they started to see the night approaching. "We gotta go home."
"Where do you guys live?" Heather asks the kids.
"Oh, we don't really live anywhere," Leyla admitted. "We just sorta live everywhere."
Elsa looked over to Hiccup and Heather, and almost telepathically they knew what she was thinking.
"Okay, this isn't happening. Come on." Hiccup said as he mounted Toothless. "You're gonna come with us to the Dragon's Edge."
"Where's that?" Anna wonders.
"Trust me, you'll love it," Elsa said as she jumped on Windshear since Luna didn't come.
Anna decided to just follow her sister and quickly climbed onto Echo. Dak and Leyla also followed as well as all of their dragons. They all had a lot to talk about when they got home, and they had all the time in the world to talk about it.
