My Hero Academia – Under Pressure – Season 3 – Episode 14 – Ultimate Moves and Upgrades
The summer continued on for Class 1-B, and with it came the looming threat of the Provisional Licensing Exam. While "threat" might not have been the word they initially associated with the test, it soon became apparent that some teachers wanted nothing less than the entire class to pass. One of whom was Big Brain.
During an assessment of their Quirks and their further growth, he noted, "UA High is the most prestigious school of its type in the nation. Some would even argue it's the best in the world. So you can imagine the disappoint us teachers would feel if you put your teachers in a bad light."
Armed Guard put equal pressure on them during an intense workout session, "This exam is VITAL to your growth as students, not to mention, your potential as future Pro-Heroes. While we may not know what you will face, your minds, bodies, and Quirks must be in the best possible shape to handle what might come your way. To not be ready would make your teachers MOST displeased."
The only one who honestly made them feel a little excited about it was Angel Wings, who gave them much more carrot than stick, "If you are able to get your Provisional Licenses, you'll be able to have more freedom out in the field. Before, you could only use your Quirks under extreme circumstances or with direct supervision from a Pro-Hero. But these licenses make it so you can use them freely! Oh, and responsibly, of course."
Ebirima raised her hand during that class, "Angel Wings! If we get our licenses, will UA put us back into the field with Pro-Heroes like in the internships?"
"Yes! That is the plan. We'll talk more about it later, but consider that another motivation to do all you can to succeed. You'll be with Pro-Heroes much longer in your next 'field session.' Something to look forward to!"
And indeed, they did look forward to it. Kuroda and Tonen did their best to keep everyone on point and focused in their training as they got ever close to the exam.
But then, instead of heading to their regular classes after homeroom one day, they were instructed to change into their hero garb and head to Gym Gamma. They had gone to other gyms before for training, but not that one.
When they arrived, they were further surprised by the number of teachers that were there. They were led by Angel Wings, but Armed Guard, Duplicate, Projection, Big Brain, and even Abaru was there.
"WELCOME to Gym Gamma," said Armed Guard as they arrived.
"Today we have a bit of fun for you all, you should rejoice!" noted Duplicate with his usual gusto.
"Why's that?" asked Eri, now very curious.
"Because, Ms. Ogata," chimed in Big Brain, "to further your prep you for what's coming, we'll be refining the techniques you use via your Quirks to give you a more robust arsenal."
Fenella groaned at the overelaborate explanation, "Can someone translate that nonsense?"
Projection snickered, "He means you're going to be learning how to do Ultimate Moves today."
That statement got quite the reaction from the class. Some were even raring to go right then to start the training. Projection did her best to calm them down.
"It's good that you're excited for this. You should be! It's a big step in your advancement as in-training heroes. Before, we were just having you use your Quirk in various ways to push your outer limits. But now, we're going to ask you to harness the power you have to do special moves."
Wasuke raised his hand, "Do these ultimate moves have to be offensive in nature?"
"No, not necessarily. An ultimate move can honestly be defined as a perfect use of your abilities. For example, in your final exam test, you made your shield bigger than you ever did before to dodge the attacks that came at you, right?"
"Yes, I had never done that before."
"Precisely! That could be considered an ultimate move due to how it was a focused effort to push your Quirk. Another example would be Anno with his Super Shark form."
"Oh yeah!" bellowed Anno, full of pride, "The shark gets another win."
Before Projection could continue, Duplicate rushed in front of her to get the classes attention, "Offense and defense aren't the only options, either! You could use an ultimate move for a distraction! Observe! Ultimate Move: Item Swarm!""
He held out an empty can and tossed it right above the class. It then multiplied into dozens of cans right above them and fell on their heads and bodies.
Duplicate laughed loudly as they were pestered by the falling cans. Projection smacked him on the head and pointed to the cans so he would get rid of them.
He hesitantly did so, "You're no fun."
"And you have too much fun," overrode Abaru as she approached the class, cats on each shoulder. "Another thing to consider is that some of your Quirks are atypical in nature. That means it's your job to come up with clever ways to use them to either help people or defeat villains. Watch closely as I demonstrate."
She went over to a part of the gym and tapped something on a podium that had a monitor on it. From the ground grew several pillars of stone.
"As you can see, there are several objects in front of me. If I needed to get through them, it would be difficult with a direct attack. That's why I use my little friends here in a more…unique way."
Abaru snapped her fingers and her cats immediately jumped to the ground and reared themselves to attack. The students watched on curiously as they had never seen Abaru in action. With another snap of her fingers an aura grew around her and it then poured into the cats, who started to glow.
"Ultimate Move: Cat-Astrophic Strike!"
With a set of hisses, the cats launched from the ground and headed for separate stone pillars. But instead of destroying them, they bounded off of them and headed for another, then another. As they did, some of the students, like Azujima, could tell their intensity grew, as did their glow. Eventually, the cats started hitting the stone pillars with such ferocity that they shattered on impact.
They continued to bounce and bound around until all the pillars were leveled.
"Abaru Mayomi. Pro-Hero and Teacher. Quirk: Cat Power. Yeah, this is another Quirk I never fully understood. But basically, she can transfer a special energy to her cats, and they can do special things as a result. That attack was just one way to use her cats. Also…those cats may be immortal due to this Quirk…but don't hold me to that."
Now finished, the cats lazily landed on the ground next to Abaru and she happily welcomed them back her arms, "As you can see, that wasn't a direct way of doing things, but it didn't need to be. If those had been active villains, they wouldn't have been able to react to what my cats were doing before it was too late. I'm not saying all your moves need to be that flashy or forceful, but creativity can be a boon to some of you."
"Ha!" came a loud mocking laugh.
The majority of them turned to see Goya sneering at them.
"Something to say?"
"While I understand your guidance to an extent, those with true abilities need no such creativity. Our overwhelming power can handle any creative strikes from…lesser Quirks."
"You sure about that?" came a low voice.
Goya turned to where the voice came from, but there was no one there, "Who said that?"
"Who said what?" asked Kuroda confused.
"Someone challenged me, which of you was it?"
"We didn't say anything, dude," noted Ikaim.
"I did," came a different voice.
Goya turned to the source, but there was no one to be found.
"What's wrong?" piped up another voice.
"Can't find me?" added another.
The voices came one after another, Goya's expression morphed into one of terror as he wondered if he was going mad.
Eventually, he whirled around upon hearing one last voice, only to see Projection right in front of him, with her hand lightly on his throat. Her expression made it clear she wasn't pleased with him, "If I was a villain right now, you'd be dead."
"That was—?" he began but got cut off.
"Me? Yeah. That's one of my ultimate moves. Vocal Cacophony. I project my voices loud enough for you to hear, but no one else. I can make it sound like people are all around you, but everyone else won't hear a peep. It's great for psychological warfare, and for distraction. Or in this case, teaching a brat a lesson."
She lightly pushed him back. Goya readied to answer with his Quirk, but the glares from the teachers shut him down.
"I haven't forgotten what you did at the Sports Festival. I know you blame me for what happened then, but I don't care. And clearly you didn't learn your lesson because you continue to underestimate those around you."
"More than he realizes…" came a familiar voice.
Goya reluctantly turned to see Tonen leading the class in a group stare against him, many of their Quirks ready to go.
He glared at both sides in turn then scoffed, "Whatever."
Projection followed up with her own scoff, "Like I said, a brat."
"REGARDLESS," interjected Armed Guard with his booming voice, "your training today is to use your Quirks in focused ways to unleash a certain goal. What that goal is shall be up to you. But do your best to push your Quirk in a creative way so you can use it in battle in a manner your foes wouldn't expect."
Big Brain moved forward to get their attention and typed on his chairs keyboard, "You no doubt noticed Abaru went to a podium before her demonstration. This gym was modified by The Tinker to give each of you a space to practice. Type on the podium's screen the kind of scenario you want, and then go to work. There's a button to reset things as well. The nanomachines within the floor will fix anything you destroy."
Kanagita suddenly got very nervous, "The nanomachines…are in the floor…?"
Ebirima was also unnerved and cautiously shuffled her feet, "Yeah…gross…"
Big Brain groaned, "They're not where you are right now. They're in the training areas. They're so small you can't see them, that's the point!"
"No need to yell."
"Are you telling me what—"
"Enough," overrode Abaru with a stern look to her fellow teacher before focusing back on the class. "Each of you take a spot and have fun. Don't be afraid to test out the settings at the podium. If you need help, we're here for the whole session. Or, if you want to head to Tinker's lab to get any upgrades, that's fine. We'll be doing training like this for the next few days to get you ready for the Provisional Licensing Exams. Off you go…"
She gave a wave for them to move, and they did so. They each went to a different spot and messed with the settings on their various podiums. Some went for straight-up pillars, others morphed them into different obstacles, a few settled for moving targets.
One of the quickest to unleash their power was Anno. He immediately shifted into his larger shark form, then focused enough to go into Super Shark appearance. Now at full power, he eyed the stone pillars ahead of him menacingly.
"Ultimate Move: Shark Frenzy!" he roared.
He lunged forward with unbridled intensity and slashed at everything that was around him. From the outside, it would look like Anno was in an uncontrolled rage, but he had a focus to him that ensured that everything he did was powerful yet precise.
When he was done, the pillars were rubble. Chopped into tiny pieces. Anno let out another shark roar as he looked at his work.
Over with Kuroda, she brought her CIW, the Change-It Weapon, and constructed a more diverse training area for her talents. There were still pillars, but also ones that moved up and down, as well as flying projectiles that moved around the area.
She went over her plan in her head, and then drew her weapon. It started as a sword in its standard configuration. Kuroda took a deep breath, then said, "Ultimate Move: Quick Change!"
Her first target was a pillar before her. Kuroda kept the sword, but turned it into the sharpest steel she could create. It sliced through the pillar like butter, and she kept slashing at it to make it into smaller pieces.
Kuroda then bounded to a different pillar that was going up and down. She shifted the sword into a diamond hammer and bopped the pillar right on its top as it was rising. The pillar resisted at first, but the hammer was too strong and the pillar crumbled.
Suddenly, some of the floating objects rushed to her. Kuroda did another change to shift the hammer into a steel scythe. She either blocked the projectiles with her handle, or sliced them in half with the blade.
The remaining projectiles just whirled around in the air, so Kuroda shifted her weapon into a bow, grabbed a rod-like piece of rubble she "created earlier," grabbed one of the orb projectiles she sliced in half and fused them together to make arrows. With incredible accuracy she picked off the projectiles until there was nothing else.
Content, she returned the CIW to its standard form and admired her work, "Now that's a quick change."
Meanwhile, Oshibu focused on a singular item in his area. It wasn't made of stone, as he wasn't that powerful with his bare fists, not yet. Rather, he had a single wooden construct in the center of the zone. Ready, he went to one corner and adjusted himself appropriate to face a specific spot.
"Ultimate Move…" he said with baited breath, "Star Blitz!"
Quick as a flash he darted to one positioned as he blasted past the wooden dummy and hit it, but he didn't stop. He went from that one spot to another key area, then another, and another, and a final one after that. Once he went to that fifth position he returned to his original spot and did everything over again.
Oshibu's speed made it so that few could see him as he did his thing. He was a blur of motion that pounded the dummy in all directions. Eventually, he stopped within one final strike. The wood dummy fell to pieces, and from above, you could see the marks from his speed on the ground. They formed a perfect star.
The speedster admired his work before he dusted himself off, "Epic."
And so it went with much of the class. Each of them tried to push their Quirk in ways that could deliver a major impact on the battlefield. Some of them, like Ebirima, already had an ultimate move that they could use. Since her Bubble Gum Web was already quite effective, she thought of other ways to tie up people with her Quirk.
Others, like Kanagita and Goya, simply pushed their raw or mental strength in a way to ensure that no one could get away from them, or screw with the battlefield so that enemies would have a hard time moving around.
Meanwhile, some took a more contemplative look at things and wondered how best to apply their Quirk to the battlefield with the goal of subduing enemies quickly. One such student was Eri. She erected some training dummies and thought of how to use her mimic Quirk effectively.
Seeing his favorite student in a state of ponderance, Big Brain came over to assist, "Struggling to see a path, Ms. Ogata?"
"On the contrary," replied Eri, "I see many paths, but I'm unsure which would be best for an ultimate move scenario."
"That proves you're thinking about this in the right way. Might I make a suggestion?"
"By all means."
"Given you aptitude in martial arts and acrobatics, I would say a rapid fire set of strikes on each opponent. But the twist, as some would say, is that you do a different set of strikes before you move to the next one. That way they never know how to block because you'll do something different than you did before."
Eri was intrigued by this, and in her mind thought out a way she would enact this move, "I see, I think I can do that rather easily."
Big Brain motioned to the dummies, "Then the floor is yours, Ms. Ogata."
She did some quick movements to get limber, then she rushed at the first dummy. With incredible precision she pounded specific locations on the dummy's body. The second dummy was met with a series of foot and knee strikes, the final of which knocked the dummy over. Eri then backflipped to the third dummy and delivered a powerful KO punch right to the face.
Finally, she bounded to the last dummy, did a handstand on its shoulders, then twisted until the two fell backwards and Eri had it locked in a painful submission hold.
Content with her display, she arose and brushed off the dust she had accrued. Big Brain was pleased by her performance and clapped as he approached, "Excellent, Ms. Ogata. If I saw that correctly, you did Pressure Points, then Muay Thai, boxing, and…I believe some freestyle moves at the end."
Eri chuckled, "Close, I saw that last move in a video game. It seemed fun, and painful for the person I put it on."
"Any ideas on what you wish to call that barrage?"
"MMA. Multiple…Martial Arts."
"Very nice."
While Eri was content with all she had done, someone else was at more of a standstill. That someone…was Tonen.
He hadn't set up his training area yet, nor was attempting anything with his Quirk. Rather, he just looked at the spot and tapped his foot as he tried to come up with ideas.
"Tonen Keitomo," came a voice behind him.
He turned around to see Armed Guard approaching, "Hey, Armed Guard."
"It is rare that I see you not doing what you're asked to do. Are you have difficulties with the assignment?"
"Kind of. I've done things like ultimate moves in the past. Such as during my internship when I did something I called 'Air Pressure Hurricane.' Or during my entrance and final exam where I let loose my air in all directions. But the first one requires me to have a narrow corridor to focus the blast, and the other isn't one I'd use in battle unless it was under an equally specific circumstance."
Armed Guard nodded at the assessment, "It's good that you can acknowledge certain limitations you have. It also shows you know your Quirk well and how it performs under various conditions."
Tonen laughed a little, "Yeah, most people think I can control my air to do what I want, but I can't. Not yet, at least. My Air Wall and Air Dome require precise control to stop them where I want them to. Generally, when I do an air blast, it's a close range shot to someone or something. The more room there is for the air to move, the harder it is to control. My suit helps me focus it better when I want it too, but it still limits what I can do for a true overwhelming attack."
"Not to mention, your air can do GREAT damage if you don't control it properly."
"As proven in my entrance and final exam."
"Indeed. I do recall during the Sports Festival that you cut through things with a kind of air blade. Do you think you could make that on a grand scale?"
The idea intrigued Tonen, but he soon shook his head, "That was more situational than anything. I cut through Soldier's wave because it was right in front of me and I aimed my air correctly. Oh, and before you ask about my 'Super Form' and the techniques I used in it, I haven't figured out how to go back into that. So I can't use it on the regular like Mako."
His teacher groaned in disappointment, "Such is the BURDEN of certain Quirks. You have many options when in the right scenario, and yet few in others."
"Isn't that a lesson about life in general?"
"Perhaps. For now, cut loose with your air on stone pillars or another item. Given enough time, you might get inspiration for something."
Tonen nodded and did as his teacher suggested. First, he attempted to do the 'air blade', but he couldn't get it to work right. It was either took big to be controlled, or too small to pack the right amount of power. He also tried making the air spheres he used against Goya in their match. But as he feared, that attack only worked in his 'Super Form,' and thus couldn't be accessed.
After about a half-hour of trying, Tonen knew it was time for a break. He went to the entrance of the gym to walk things off when he saw a group of 1-B students together against a wall. Azujima, Iha, and Ryo were all together, and none of them had a happy expression.
Concerned, Tonen went to them, "Hey guys, what's wrong?"
"Hey TK," answered Azujima first with a quick smile that faded just as quickly. "Nothing's wrong, per se. But…"
"But…?"
"We got no ultimate moves," noted Iha bluntly.
"Oh…"
"We tried to think of things," piped up Ryo, "but our Quirks are very situational. If I was in a place full of machines I could have them do whatever I wanted, but that's not something I can count on in the field, or in a literal field."
"My aura works two ways," added Iha, "Up and Down."
"Hence my nickname for you," joked Tonen to lighten her spirits.
"Yep."
"And my Quirk has no offensive capabilities," lamented Azujima. "It's useless in a training session like this."
"Azu, we've been through this. You're not useless, we just have to get creative. Heck, the reason I'm here right now is I'm struggling to do an ultimate move that I can easily control."
"Really?" the three said at once, surprised.
"Yeah!" he said with equal surprise. "I can do basic and some complex attacks no problem but air works in specific ways and it limits what I can do for an ultimate attack without hurting innocent people or places or things."
"Wow, I never thought of it like that, TK," Ryo said with a sad smile. "You make it look so easy."
"Some of it is, some of it isn't. We push through. It's like I told you that one time, Azu, we're all under…development…"
He paused as a set of ideas came across his mind. Tonen also remembered what Abaru said about being able to go The Tinker's lab.
The three others watched as Tonen fidgeted in place and mouthed wordless, Azujima was a bit concerned, "TK?"
"Huh? Oh, sorry, just remembered something. Come on, we're going to The Tinker's lab."
"Why?" asked Iha.
"To get upgrades for you all! What else?"
He motioned to them to follow. They hesitated at first, but realized that if nothing else, they were curious about what he had in mind.
Tonen didn't reveal his plan, not yet. Instead, he quickly went to the Tinker's lab and banged on the door. Sure enough, the teacher appeared before the group, "Yes? Hello! What? What do you want?"
"Is it really not obvious?" wondered Tonen as he gestured to the others.
"Well, my assistant could be here for many reasons, as could all of you! I hate guessing. Yes. Hate it. Really do."
"Ok, fine, we're training to do our ultimate moves and we could use some upgrades to get over some hurdles."
The Tinker went quiet and looked at each of them in turn, his eyes bouncing from all over the place as he pondered thoughts only he could understand.
Eventually, he juked to the side and held out an arm toward the lab, "Enter! Enter! ENTER!"
After a mix of reactions, they did so. Tonen, Azujima, Iha and Ryo all sat at a nearby table where blueprints and scraps of paper laid. The Tinker hovered over them, eagerness in his eyes.
"What do you have in mind?"
"That's what we're wondering," admitted Azujima was some nervousness. "What did you think for us, TK?"
Tonen laughed lightly, "I have no idea."
That got a wild reaction from the others who couldn't believe it. But Tonen waved them down.
"That's why we're here, we'll work it out person by person and see what The Tinker can do. For example, Ryo."
"Yes?" she replied, startled briefly by her name coming out first.
"Your 'fix' is honestly the easiest to think up. Right now, because of my last suggestion about your powers, you have drones on your costumes."
"Yeah, I love them! They're great for recon."
"Exactly, and at the time, that's all you needed them for. But now…you need them to be more offensive, or defensive as the case may be."
"Oh! I should get drones with weapons!"
He nodded, "Among other things, but yes. Tinker? Do you have drones that could help her out in a true combat scenario?"
"Of course!" the teacher answered with enthusiasm. "In fact, I theorized that my dear assistant might need that so I've been testing out potential candidates in my spare time! I'll show you them once we're done, assistant!"
Ryo was in awe of this, "Oh, I can't wait!"
"There you go," said Tonen happily, "now, let's do Azu next. I'll admit, yours is tricky."
Azujima sighed, "Don't I know it. Hard to use senses for offense or defense. Evasion, sure, I've done that already. Recon is no problem. But in combat? I'm usel…um…I'm limited. Even my costume has limited functions. It just helps me regulate what I'm sensing and gives me a tactical display."
"No. Not just that!" piped in The Tinker. "You have the shutdown feature. You told me you used that in the final exam!"
"The what?" asked Iha.
"Oh, if I get an overload of senses in the field, I can literally shut all my senses off via the helmet," Azujima revealed, "Then I can slowly turn them back on to ensure I'm not overloaded again.'
Tonen thumped the table in excitement, "I didn't know that, Azu! I would've had my idea much quicker if you mentioned that!"
"What do you mean?"
"If your shutdown mode makes you unaffected by senses, that gives you the ultimate weapon against everyone else."
"I don't…know what you mean."
"I mean this. Tinker? Do you think you can make flash bangs? Sonic grenades? Maybe a few stink bombs for good measure?"
The teacher shifted between various poses as he contemplated the request, "A simplistic solution. Simple. Yet fun! Yes, I could make a wide variety of those!"
Ryo made the connection Tonen had, "Oh, I get it! For a sonic grenade, Azujima can turn off his hearing, but the bad guys won't be able to! Same with the other devices and their sensory focus!"
"Right," acknowledged Tonen with a thumbs up to his friend before turning to Azujima. "With that helmet, you'll turn your weakness into strength. You can overwhelm foes without laying a finger on them. Or at the very least, disorient them so others can come help you out. Like me."
Azujima was amazed at the idea, "Wow, that's incredible, TK! Thank you so much!"
"My pleasure, Azu."
The two gave a smile to the other, but then a throat getting cleared got their attention. It was Iha, who was the opposite of eager when she said, "My turn. Good luck."
The others gave a small giggle at the statement, but Tonen soon focused on his friend. The Tinker was also interested in how this would go, "Ah, the modulator! Her Quirk is powerful, but has range and touch restraints. Hard to get around that. Hard. Not impossible!"
"Sure."
"Chin up, Up Down," cautioned Tonen. "I'll think of something. If not me, the others. But let's start with the basics. Your power isn't just turning Quirks up or down, it's about the energy you exude. You have to touch someone physically to power them up, or they have to be in your area of effect to get powered down."
"Iha has gone better with both since summer camp," boasted Ryo with a smile. "Your range with your field is many feet bigger, and you can affect multiple people at once with it!"
"Not an ultimate move," Iha said with a look of displeasure.
"If only you could harness that energy differently…" put out Azujima as he struggled to think of an answer.
Yet again, the words of another gave Tonen inspiration, "That's it! Iha needs to take herself out of the equation here. Tinker, do you have a device that could harness or collect Iha's energy for her up/down tactic?"
As the students looked at their teacher they could see that he was basically vibrating at the notion of this unheard of idea, "A device that could harness or collect her unique Quirk energy? That's brilliant! Marvelous! Stupendous even! I'll get to work on it right away!"
Without another word, he rushed off to a work bench and started cranking away. The others watched him for a bit as he did, and even Tonen was unsure of what might happen next, "I think it's best to let him do his thing for a bit."
"Agreed," said the others in unison.
But as they waited, Ryo looked back at Tonen, "Wait, you still don't have your upgrade, TK!"
"Oh…" he said in surprise, "yeah, I guess I haven't. I was excited with figuring out your upgrades, I guess."
"Well let's fix that now!" note Azujima eagerly. "So, your problem is that you want to have a more focused attack, but you can't with your powers as it stands."
"Right. All our Quirks are natural, not magical, even if we can't explain how they work. So when I shoot out air, the air will go in the direction I want for a while, but the farther away it goes, the less power it has and it'll branch out to wherever it wants. Like how if you stand far enough away from a fan, its effect is much less."
"Isn't that why you have those vents on your costume?" wondered Ryo. "To focus them more? Like that attack you did on Eri during one of our training sessions."
"A good callback," admitted Tonen, but then he wagged his finger, "but the vents are designed to be small and focused. That way if I use them to get someone away from short range, like with Eri, it won't take much. Or if I use them to blast into the air I won't be out of control. The small vents have a limit on what they can do."
Iha's head tilted as a simple solution came to mind, "So make them bigger."
"What?"
"If you need a bigger blast, make the vent bigger."
"Clever…but if I make it too big, it'll become cumbersome and weigh me down in the field."
"Isn't that what he's for?"
She pointed to The Tinker, who was still hard at work on the last suggestion made to him. As Tonen thought about it, if anyone could make a bigger vent that didn't weigh him down or hinder his movement, it would be the builder before him.
He turned back to Iha and smiled, "Never let anyone tell you you're dumb, Iha. I'll let him finish your device and then tell him your idea for mine. Maybe this might work out after all…"
Sure enough, The Tinker was delighted by the challenging idea. With so many things he had to build, he asked for privacy, save for some help from Ryo, so he could get it all done.
The trio that remained went back to the gym and watched the others work until it was time to call it a day. When the next one dawned, they were again given plenty of time to work on their ultimate moves. Like before, the quartet went down to The Tinker's lab, and the only device not done was Iha's due to the complexity of it. She stayed behind for some tests and trials while the others went back to the gym with their new gear.
When they returned, Azujima and Ryo nudged for Tonen to go first and showcase his upgrade. He happily did that and set up a scenario in his private section.
Tonen decided upon a likely scenario for him to use his new attack. One that focused on a number of people within a certain area. He mixed in stone pillars and training dummies to simulate different opponents he might face in the field. He also put some in outlier positions to test if he could make a focused blast as he desired.
With it all set, Tonen smirked and grabbed his central chest vent on his hero garb. He turned it 90 degrees, and when he did, it started to shift.
As it expanded, the shape of the vent changed from a rectangle to a more circular object. Soon, the vent looked more like a turbine than anything else. Its size had grown many fold, yet still had a somewhat compact look as it sat upon his chest.
Tonen took a deep breath to calm himself.
Then he shouted, "Ultimate Move: Air Cyclone!"
With a roar he focused his air through his new turbine-esque chest piece. Due to how the vents were angled, a massive tube of air came out and hit the dummies and pillars head on. The more he poured on the air pressure, the more damage they did.
The dummies were sent flying, and the stone pillars cracked and eventually broke.
Once he was satisfied with what he had done, Tonen stopped the attack. Sure enough, the only things that weren't hurt were the items outside of the cyclone's focused range. One of the outside dummies had fallen over, but that was acceptable in his mind.
As he gazed at what he did he couldn't help but feel proud, "That'll work."
He touched his chest piece again, then shifted it once more. It soon reverted to its original shape and Tonen turned to see what his friends thought.
To his surprise, it wasn't just Azujima and Ryo there, but many of the others too. Including Kuroda, Oshibu, Ueno, Ebirima and Fenella. They all cheered at the attack and his new costume component. So Tonen went over to thank them and discuss their own accomplishments.
"Sometimes you need help. Sometimes you need ideas that aren't your own. To hear opinions or perspectives that could give you a spark of inspiration. That's one of the things I loved about the majority of Class 1-B, we lifted one another up. We helped one another. Which was great, because our biggest test as a class was about to go down."
