"Tobias! Tobias!" Tommy shouted, hoping against hope that the hawk would hear him.
If he could hear anything at all, over that awful screaming.
Yes, it'd been more than a little terrifying, trying as hard as he could to morph back into a human, and not being able to do a single thing until Cassie had come over to talk him through it, but Tommy still hoped that he might have been able to help Tobias. Seeing all of them like that…
It had to have been the worst kind of reminder of what had happened to him, back on that first night when they'd just been starting out; when they'd made their first attack on the Yeerks' main stronghold, and had only managed to escape by the skin of their teeth.
For the rest of the next day, Tommy found that he couldn't get the thought of what might have been happening to Tobias out of his mind. Really, the only reprieve he could actually find was when he was exercising or working on his katas. Still, when Marco slipped a note into his pocket when the pair of them passed each other in the halls between classes, Tommy tried to nerve himself up for whatever they were going to have to do next.
They were going to be meeting at Jake's house, this time, which was kind of strange to think about but there had to be a reason for that.
(Tommy, follow my directions and I'll lead you to Jake's house.)
Nodding, Tommy tried to calm himself down. It sounded like Tobias was doing better, but while he didn't know all that much about what his fellow Animorph was going through, he was at least going to try to talk to him. Maybe it wouldn't actually do anything, but he wouldn't be the friend he was trying to be if he didn't at least try.
When Tobias guided him to a tall tree just outside Jake's window, Tommy quickly morphed into the cat he'd acquired in order to keep his presence with the other Animorphs a secret during their meetings.
"About time," Marco said, turning an unimpressed look on the pair of them. "We've all been waiting here for like an hour."
(Sure you have,) he said, making sure that he sounded just as unimpressed as Marco had sounded when he'd said that.
The rest of their fellow Animorphs had only been present for a couple minutes, before he and Tobias had arrived. After determining just how little time some of the others had to figure out what they were going to do with the information that they'd uncovered on their trip to find out just what it was that the Yeerks had been doing out in the mountains. Up at the lake, where they'd all made their discovery. Turning to look up at Tobias again, Tommy looked up at Tobias.
Since he hadn't managed to find the right time to talk to him before the meeting, Tommy promised himself that he'd make time to catch up with his fellow Animorph – who seemed to be the same kind of outsider that Tommy was finding himself to be – once they'd all decided on their next course of action.
