In the end, they'd settled on morphing black ants, to blend in with the ants that lived in the Chapman family yard.

"I wonder why these people moved," Cassie mused, looking back at the empty house they were all standing in the back yard of.

"Maybe they didn't like living next door to a Controller," Marco said, turning to smirk at Cassie. "Maybe they didn't want to live so close to someone who's part of a huge conspiracy to take over the Earth. Or, maybe they just like assistant principals. I could understand that."

"It's convenient for us, anyway," Jake said, as Tommy shook his head.

Sometimes, Marco could make good points, but then he'd go and make whatever he seemed to be saying into a joke; Tommy didn't know quite why he did that, but every time he'd find himself curious about that kind of thing, something would come up to distract him from it. Right now, that "something else" was the knowledge that they were going to have to morph into ants soon. Entirely too soon, as far as Tommy was concerned.

"Tobias, how well can you see?" Marco asked, and Tommy turned to glance up at the hawk for a moment, before returning his attention to the Chapman house; it still seemed like everyone was still inside the house.

(I think I'll be able to see you as long as you stay aboveground. The moonlight helps, but I'm not nearly as good at night as I am during the day. My eyes aren't much better than yours in the dark.)

That wasn't particularly comforting.

Closing his eyes, Tommy tried to picture the ant that he'd held in his hand; at least as well as he could, considering how small ants were.
