Once they'd managed to find out just what it was that the Yeerks were really planning – making a move on the governor, who also seemed to have aspirations of becoming President, so that was also something – they were forced to escape from the Controllers, who had noticed them and attacked. The thought of not only the two-hundred new Controllers they were aiming to create each month – if the Animorphs allowed them to succeed, which they weren't – stuck in his mind, even as he demorphed.
He'd known that the Yeerks were determined to take over the Earth, or at least to enslave every human on the planet, but he hadn't quite realized how determined they actually were. He hadn't know just how far they were actually willing to go, before today. The thought stayed with him, as Tommy tried to go about his normal day. It almost helped that he wasn't in close contact with the rest of the Animorphs, since it at least allowed him to get away from all of that.
Working on his katas with the rest of his class helped him to settle his thoughts, too, so that was another good thing. As it turned out, he needed the extra steadiness he got from practice, since the next time the Animorphs all met up in Cassie's barn it was to acquire flies. So that they could morph into flies.
Wincing at the sound of Jake's shout, Tommy considered turning around for a long moment, before taking a shaky breath to steady himself.
"Jake," he said, wondering for a long moment what he could actually say.
"Great, Jake, that's really going to make her feel good," Marco cracked, before Tommy could figure out what to say to make Jake feel better about things.
"Marco, you have your eyes closed," Jake said, clearly trying to sound reasonable, but still sounding pretty shaky to Tommy's ears.
"Yeah, and Tommy's not even looking," Marco said, and Tommy found himself looking over his right shoulder at the younger boy.
He still had both hands over his eyes, and given how Jake was acting, Tommy didn't blame him for it one bit.
