They'd managed to catch up to Rachel – he and Cassie did, since Marco was already away, trying to draw the Veleek to him with his drawn-out morph – and Tommy found himself more than a little unsettled when he recalled his first thought when the three of them had met up with her. His first thought had been annoyance; he'd been annoyed at the way Rachel had seemingly lost her memories. As if it was just one more annoying thing that he and Cassie had to deal with.
As if it wasn't something terrible that had happened to one of his friends.
He didn't have much time to think about that, however, before a Yeerk Big Fighter appeared in front of them, firing into the street and nearly sending the truck that he and Cassie were still inside flipping over onto its roof. Morphing as fast as he could, Tommy unlocked the door and leaped out in his lion morph. They'd drawn the Veleek back to them, of course, and now it hovered over all of them.
All of the creature's cold, hollow eyes looked down on their small group, and Tommy growled as he finished his morph. The Veleek dove on him, just as Tommy had wanted it to, and Tommy found himself picked up the same way it had tried to do to Rachel. He wondered if that was what had made Rachel lose her memory. He couldn't really ask her that kind of thing, though, since it wasn't like she remembered any of it, herself.
