With the truck all packed up, Tommy settled in the passenger seat and tried not to think too hard about just what kind of creatures he was truly traveling with.
"Look, Tommy, there's even a martial arts tournament today!" the Controller playing the role of his mother said, an eerie, fake smile on her face.
"You'll have something to do after school, it looks like," her counterpart, the Yeerk in his foster father, said with that same kind of smile.
"Yeah, I guess I will," he said, wondering if there was any particular reason they were trying to push martial arts on him in Angel Grove.
The Sharing might have had its own martial arts program, but that was back in Century City with the rest of the Yeerks, the Animorphs, and the struggle he'd been forced to leave behind for the moment. Still, if he was going to have any chance of keeping up his cover, Tommy knew that he'd have to play along. His cover was more important than ever, here, since he would be the only free human in his house.
As much as Tommy didn't like to think about it, he was the only one who would be able to do anything about the Yeerks in Angel Grove; the only one who'd be close enough to find out what they'd been sent to the city for, and the only one who would really be in a position to stop them.
